Entonces habló el SEÑOR a Moisés, diciendo: 2 Toma venganza completa sobre los madianitas por los hijos de Israel^a; después serás reunido a tu pueblo^b. 3 Y habló Moisés al pueblo, diciendo: Armad a algunos hombres de entre vosotros para la guerra, a fin de que suban¹ contra Madián para ejecutar la venganza del SEÑOR^a en Madián. 4 Enviaréis a la guerra mil de cada tribu, de todas las tribus de Israel. 5 Entonces se prepararon¹ de entre los miles de Israel, mil de cada tribu, doce mil hombres armados para la guerra. 6 Y Moisés los envió a la guerra, mil de cada tribu, y a Finees, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, a la guerra con ellos, con los vasos sagrados^a y las trompetas^b en su mano para la alarma. 7 E hicieron guerra contra Madián, tal como el SEÑOR había ordenado a Moisés, y mataron a todos los varones^a. 8 Y junto con sus muertos, mataron a los reyes de Madián: Evi, Requem, Zur, Hur y Reba^a, los cinco reyes de Madián. También mataron a espada a Balaam, hijo de Beor^b. 9 Y los hijos de Israel tomaron cautivas a las mujeres de Madián y a sus pequeños; y saquearon todo su ganado, todos sus rebaños y todos sus bienes. 10 Después prendieron fuego a todas las ciudades donde habitaban¹ y a todos sus campamentos. 11 Y tomaron todo el despojo y todo el botín, tanto de hombres como de animales^a. 12 Y trajeron los cautivos, el botín y los despojos a Moisés, al sacerdote Eleazar y a la congregación de los hijos de Israel, al campamento en las llanuras de Moab que están junto al Jordán, frente a Jericó.

13 Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar, y todos los jefes de la congregación salieron a recibirlos fuera del campamento. 14 Moisés se enojó con los oficiales del ejército, los capitanes de miles y los capitanes de cientos, que volvían del servicio en la guerra, 15 y les dijo Moisés: ¿Habéis dejado con vida a todas las mujeres^a? 16 He aquí,estas fueron la causa de que los hijos de Israel, por el consejo¹ de Balaam^a, fueran infieles al² SEÑOR en el asunto de Peor, por lo que hubo plaga entre la congregación del SEÑOR^b. 17 Ahora pues, matad^a a todo varón entre los niños, y matad a toda mujer que haya conocido varón acostándose con él¹. 18 Pero a todas las jóvenes que no hayan conocido varón acostándose con él, las dejaréis con vida para vosotros. 19 Y vosotros, acampad fuera del campamento por siete días; todo el que haya matado a una persona y todo el que haya tocado a un muerto, purificaos, vosotros y vuestros cautivos, al tercero y al séptimo día^a. 20 Y purificaréis todo vestido, todo artículo de cuero y toda obra de pelo de cabra y todo objeto de madera.

21 Entonces el sacerdote Eleazar dijo a los hombres de guerra que habían ido a la batalla: Este es el estatuto de la ley que el SEÑOR ha ordenado a Moisés: 22 solo el oro, la plata, el bronce, el hierro, el estaño y el plomo, 23 todo lo que resiste el fuego, pasaréis por el fuego y será limpio, pero será purificado con el agua para¹ la impureza. Mas todo lo que no resiste el fuego lo pasaréis por agua^a. 24 Y en el séptimo día lavaréis vuestra ropa y seréis limpios; después podréis entrar al campamento.

25 Entonces habló el SEÑOR a Moisés, diciendo: 26 Cuenta el botín que fue tomado¹ tanto de hombres como de animales; tú con el sacerdote Eleazar, y los jefes de las casas paternas de la congregación, 27 y divide en mitades el botín entre los guerreros que salieron a la batalla y toda la congregación^a. 28 Y toma un tributo para el SEÑOR de los hombres de guerra que salieron a la batalla, uno por cada¹ quinientos, tanto de las personas como de los bueyes, de los asnos y de las ovejas; 29 tómalo de la mitad de ellos, y dáselo al sacerdote Eleazar, como ofrenda¹ al SEÑOR. 30 Y de la mitad de los hijos de Israel tomarás uno de cada cincuenta, tanto de las personas como de los bueyes, de los asnos y de las ovejas, de cualquier animal, y los darás a los levitas^a que guardan el tabernáculo del SEÑOR. 31 Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar hicieron tal como el SEÑOR había ordenado a Moisés.

32 Y el botín que quedó del despojo que los hombres¹ de guerra habían tomado fue de seiscientas setenta y cinco mil ovejas, 33 setenta y dos mil cabezas de ganado, 34 y sesenta y un mil asnos; 35 y de los seres humanos, de las mujeres que no habían conocido varón acostándose con él, fueron en total treinta y dos mil. 36 Y la mitad, la porción para los que salieron a la guerra, fue de trescientas treinta y siete mil quinientas ovejas en número; 37 el tributo al SEÑOR fue de seiscientas setenta y cinco ovejas; 38 y las cabezas de ganado, treinta y seis mil, de las cuales el tributo al SEÑOR fue de setenta y dos; 39 y los asnos, treinta mil quinientos, de los cuales el tributo al SEÑOR fue de sesenta y uno. 40 Y los seres humanos, dieciséis mil, de los cuales el tributo al SEÑOR fue de treinta y dos personas. 41 Y Moisés dio el tributo, que era la ofrenda del SEÑOR, al sacerdote Eleazar, tal como el SEÑOR había ordenado a Moisés^a.

42 En cuanto a la mitad para los hijos de Israel, que Moisés había apartado de los hombres que habían ido a la guerra, 43 la mitad del botín de la congregación fue de trescientas treinta y siete mil quinientas ovejas, 44 treinta y seis mil cabezas de ganado, 45 treinta mil quinientos asnos, 46 y dieciséis mil seres humanos. 47 Y de la mitad del botín de los hijos de Israel, Moisés tomó uno de cada cincuenta, tanto de hombres como de animales, y se los dio a los levitas, los cuales estaban encargados del tabernáculo del SEÑOR, tal como el SEÑOR había ordenado a Moisés.

48 Entonces los oficiales que estaban sobre los miles del ejército, los capitanes de miles y los capitanes de cientos, se acercaron a Moisés; 49 y dijeron a Moisés: Tus siervos han levantado un censo de los hombres de guerra que están a nuestro cargo, y ninguno de nosotros falta. 50 Por tanto, hemos traído al SEÑOR, como ofrenda, lo que cada hombre ha hallado: objetos de oro, pulseras, brazaletes, anillos, pendientes y collares, para hacer expiación por nosotros ante el SEÑOR^a. 51 Y Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar recibieron de ellos el oro y toda clase de objetos labrados. 52 Y el total del oro de la ofrenda que ellos ofrecieron al SEÑOR, de los capitanes de miles y de los capitanes de cientos, fue de dieciséis mil setecientos cincuenta siclos¹. 53 Los hombres de guerra habían tomado botín^a, cada hombre algo para sí mismo. 54 Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar recibieron el oro de los capitanes de miles y de cientos, y lo llevaron a la tienda de reunión como memorial para los hijos de Israel delante del SEÑOR^a.

Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “^aTake vengeance on the Midianites for the sons of Israel; afterward you will be ^bgathered to your people.” 3 So Moses spoke to the people, saying, “Arm men from among you for the war, so that they may ¹go against Midian to execute ^athe LORD’S vengeance on Midian. 4 You shall send a thousand from each tribe of all the tribes of Israel to the war.” 5 So there were selected from the thousands of Israel, a thousand from each tribe, twelve thousand armed for war. 6 And Moses sent them, a thousand from each tribe, to the war, and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war with them, ^aand the holy implements and ^bthe trumpets for the alarm in his hand. 7 So they made war against Midian, just as the LORD had commanded Moses, and ^athey killed every male. 8 They killed the kings of Midian along with the rest of those killed: ^aEvi, Rekem, ^bZur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. They also killed ^cBalaam the son of Beor with the sword. 9 And the sons of Israel took captive the women of Midian and their little ones; and they plundered all their cattle, all their flocks, and all their property. 10 Then they ¹burned all their cities where they lived and all their encampments. 11 And ^athey took all the plunder and all the spoils, both of people and of livestock. 12 They brought the captives and the spoils and the plunder to Moses, to Eleazar the priest, and to the congregation of the sons of Israel, to the camp at the plains of Moab which are by the Jordan, opposite Jericho.

13 And Moses, Eleazar the priest, and all the leaders of the congregation went out to meet them outside the camp. 14 But Moses was angry with the officers of the army, the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, who had come from service in the war. 15 And Moses said to them, “Have you ¹spared ^aall the women? 16 ^aBehold, they caused the sons of Israel, through the ¹counsel of ^bBalaam, to be unfaithful to the LORD in the matter of Peor, so that the plague took place among the congregation of the LORD! 17 ^aNow therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known a man ¹intimately. 18 However, all the ¹girls who have not known a ²man intimately, keep alive for yourselves. 19 ^aAnd as for you, camp outside the camp for seven days; whoever has killed a person and whoever has touched anyone killed, purify yourselves, you and your captives, on the third day and on the seventh day. 20 And you shall purify for yourselves every garment, every article of leather, every work of goats’ hair, and every article of wood.”

21 Then Eleazar the priest said to the men of war who had gone to battle, “This is the statute of the Law which the LORD has commanded Moses: 22 only the gold and the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin, and the lead, 23 everything that can ¹withstand the fire, you shall pass through the fire, and it will be clean, only it shall be purified with ^awater for impurity. But whatever cannot ²withstand the fire you shall pass through the water. 24 And you shall wash your clothes on the seventh day and you will be clean; and afterward you may enter the camp.”

25 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 26 “You and Eleazar the priest and the heads of the fathers’ households of the congregation take a count of the spoils ¹that were captured, both of people and of livestock; 27 and ^adivide the spoils between the warriors who went to battle and all the congregation. 28 Also, ^acollect a tribute tax for the LORD from the men of war who went to battle, one ¹in five hundred of the persons, of the cattle, of the donkeys, and of the sheep; 29 take it from their half and give it to Eleazar the priest, as an ¹offering to the LORD. 30 And from the sons of Israel’s half, you shall take one drawn from every fifty of the persons, of the cattle, of the donkeys, and of the sheep, from all the animals; and give them to the Levites who ^aperform the duty of the tabernacle of the LORD.” 31 Moses and Eleazar the priest did just as the LORD had commanded Moses.

32 Now the spoils that remained from the plunder which the ¹men of war had plundered was 675,000 sheep, 33 seventy-two thousand cattle, 34 sixty-one thousand donkeys, 35 and of captive people, of the women who had not known a ¹man intimately, in all were thirty-two thousand people.

36 The half, the share of those who went to war, was as follows: the number of sheep was 337,500, 37 the LORD’S tribute tax of the sheep was 675; 38 the cattle were thirty-six thousand, from which the LORD’S tribute tax was seventy-two; 39 the donkeys were 30,500, from which the LORD’S tribute tax was sixty-one; 40 and the captive people were sixteen thousand, from whom the LORD’S tribute tax was thirty-two persons. 41 And Moses gave the tribute tax, which was the LORD’S offering, to Eleazar the priest, just ^aas the LORD had commanded Moses.

42 As for the sons of Israel’s half, which Moses ¹separated from the men who had gone to war— 43 now the congregation’s half was 337,500 sheep, 44 thirty-six thousand cattle, 45 30,500 donkeys, 46 and the captive people were sixteen thousand— 47 from the sons of Israel’s half Moses took one drawn from every fifty, both of people and of animals, and gave them to the Levites, who performed the duty of the tabernacle of the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.

48 Then the officers who were over the thousands of the army, the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, approached Moses, 49 and they said to Moses, “Your servants have taken a census of the men of war who are ¹under our authority, and no man of us is missing. 50 So we have brought as an offering to the LORD what each man found, articles of gold, armlets and bracelets, signet rings, earrings, and necklaces, ^ato make atonement for ourselves before the LORD.” 51 Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold from them, all kinds of crafted articles. 52 All the gold of the offering which they offered up to the LORD, from the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, was 16,750 shekels. 53 ^aThe men of war had taken plunder, every man for himself. 54 So Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold from the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it to the tent of meeting as ^aa memorial for the sons of Israel before the LORD.
