Decía también Jesús a los discípulos: Había cierto hombre rico que tenía un mayordomo; yeste fue acusado ante él de derrochar sus bienes^a. 2 Entonces lo llamó y le dijo: «¿Qué es esto que oigo acerca de ti? Rinde cuentas de tu administración, porque no puedes ser más mayordomo». 3 Y el mayordomo se dijo a sí mismo: «¿Qué haré? Pues mi señor me quita la administración. No tengo fuerzas para cavar, y me da vergüenza mendigar. 4 Ya sé¹ lo que haré, para que cuando se me destituya de la administración me reciban en sus casas». 5 Y llamando a cada uno de los deudores de su señor, dijo al primero: «¿Cuánto le debes a mi señor?». 6 Y él dijo: «Cien barriles¹ de aceite». Y le dijo: «Toma tu factura, siéntate pronto y escribe cincuenta». 7 Después dijo a otro: «Y tú, ¿cuánto debes?». Y él respondió: «Cien medidas¹ de trigo». Él le dijo*: «Toma tu factura y escribe ochenta». 8 El señor elogió al mayordomo injusto porque había procedido con sagacidad, pues los hijos de este siglo^a son más sagaces en las relaciones con sus semejantes¹ que los hijos de la luz^b. 9 Y yo os digo: Haceos amigos por medio de las riquezas^1a injustas^b, para que cuando falten, os reciban en las moradas eternas^c. 10 El que es fiel en lo muy poco, es fiel también en lo mucho^a; y el que es injusto en lo muy poco, también es injusto en lo mucho. 11 Por tanto, si no habéis sido fieles en el uso de las riquezas¹ injustas^a, ¿quién os confiará las riquezas verdaderas? 12 Y si no habéis sido fieles en el uso de lo ajeno, ¿quién os dará lo que es vuestro¹? 13 Ningún siervo¹ puede servir a dos señores, porque o aborrecerá a uno y amará al otro, o se apegará a uno y despreciará al otro. No podéis servir a Dios y a las riquezas^2a.

14 Los fariseos, que eran amantes del dinero^a, oían todas estas cosas y se burlaban de Él^b. 15 Y Él les dijo: Vosotros sois los que os justificáis a vosotros mismos^a ante los hombres, pero Dios conoce vuestros corazones^b, porque lo que entre los hombres es de alta estima, abominable es delante de Dios. 16 La ley y los profetas se proclamaron hasta Juan^a; desde entonces se anuncian las buenas nuevas del reino de Dios^b, y todos se esfuerzan por entrar en él. 17 Pero más fácil es que el cielo y la tierra pasen, que un ápice¹ de la ley deje de cumplirse^2a. 18 Todo el que se divorcia de¹ su mujer y se casa con otra, comete adulterio; y el que se casa con la que está divorciada del² marido, comete adulterio^a.

19 Había cierto hombre rico que se vestía de púrpura y lino fino, celebrando cada día fiestas con esplendidez. 20 Y un pobre llamado Lázaro yacía a su puerta^a cubierto de llagas, 21 ansiando saciarse de las migajas que caían de la mesa del rico; además, hasta los perros venían y le lamían las llagas. 22 Y sucedió que murió el pobre y fue llevado por los ángeles al seno^a de Abraham; y murió también el rico y fue sepultado. 23 En el Hades^1a alzó² sus ojos, estando en tormentos, y vio* a Abraham a lo lejos, y a Lázaro en su seno. 24 Y gritando, dijo: «Padre Abraham^a, ten misericordia de mí, y envía a Lázaro para que moje la punta de su dedo en agua y refresque mi lengua, pues estoy en agonía en esta llama^b». 25 Pero Abraham le dijo: «Hijo, recuerda que durante tu vida recibiste tus bienes^a, y Lázaro, igualmente, males; pero ahora él es consolado aquí, y tú estás en agonía. 26 Y además de¹ todo esto, hay un gran abismo puesto entre nosotros y vosotros, de modo que los que quieran pasar de aquí a vosotros no puedan, y tampoco nadie pueda² cruzar de allá a nosotros». 27 Entonces él dijo: «Te ruego, pues, padre, que lo envíes a la casa de mi padre, 28 pues tengo cinco hermanos, de modo que él los prevenga^1a, para que ellos no vengan también a este lugar de tormento». 29 Pero Abraham dijo*: «Ellos tienen a Moisés y a los profetas^a; que los oigan». 30 Y él dijo: «No, padre Abraham^a, sino que si alguno va a ellos de entre los muertos, se arrepentirán». 31 Mas Abraham le contestó: «Si no escuchan a Moisés y a los profetas, tampoco se persuadirán si alguno se levanta de entre los muertos».

Now He was also saying to the disciples, “There was a rich man who had a manager, and this manager was ¹reported to him as ^asquandering his possessions. 2 And he summoned him and said to him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an accounting of your management, for you can no longer be manager.’ 3 And the manager said to himself, ‘What am I to do, since my ¹master is taking the management away from me? I am not strong enough to ²dig; I am ashamed to beg. 4 I know what I will do, so that when I am removed from the management people will welcome me into their homes.’ 5 And he summoned each one of his ¹master’s debtors, and he began saying to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ 6 And he said, ‘A hundred ¹jugs of oil.’ And he said to him, ‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’ 7 Then he said to another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ And he said, ‘A hundred ¹kors of wheat.’ He *said to him, ‘Take your bill, and write eighty.’ 8 And his ¹master complimented the unrighteous manager because he had acted shrewdly; for the sons of ^athis age are more shrewd in relation to their own ²kind than the ^bsons of light. 9 And I say to you, ^amake friends for yourselves by means of the ^1bwealth of unrighteousness, so that when it ²is all gone, ^cthey will receive you into the eternal dwellings.

10 “^aThe one who is faithful in a very little thing is also faithful in much; and the one who is unrighteous in a very little thing is also unrighteous in much. 11 Therefore if you have not ¹been faithful in the use of unrighteous ^2awealth, who will entrust the true wealth to you? 12 And if you have not ¹been faithful in the use of that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own? 13 ^aNo ¹servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and ^2bwealth.”

14 Now the Pharisees, who were ^alovers of money, were listening to all these things and ^bwere ¹ridiculing Him. 15 And He said to them, “You are the ones who ^ajustify yourselves in the sight of people, but ^bGod knows your hearts; because that which is highly esteemed among people is detestable in the sight of God.

16 “^aThe Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John came; since that time ^bthe gospel of the kingdom of God ¹has been preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it. 17 ^aBut it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one ¹stroke of a letter of the Law to fail.

18 “^aEveryone who ¹divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries one who is ²divorced from a husband commits adultery.

19 “Now there was a rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, enjoying himself in splendor every day. 20 And a poor man named Lazarus ^awas laid at his gate, covered with sores, 21 and longing to be fed from the scraps which fell from the rich man’s table; not only that, the dogs also were coming and licking his sores. 22 Now it happened that the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to ^1aAbraham’s arms; and the rich man also died and was buried. 23 And in ^aHades he raised his eyes, being in torment, and *saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his ¹arms. 24 And he cried out and said, ‘^aFather Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus, so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in ^bthis flame.’ 25 But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that ^aduring your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony. 26 And ¹besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set, so that those who want to go over from here to you will not be able, nor will any people cross over from there to us.’ 27 And he said, ‘Then I request of you, father, that you send him to my father’s house— 28 for I have five brothers—in order that he may ^awarn them, so that they will not come to this place of torment as well.’ 29 But Abraham *said, ‘They have ^1aMoses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ 30 But he said, ‘No, ^afather Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!’ 31 But he said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’”
