Estos son los territorios que los hijos de Israel recibieron como heredad en la tierra de Canaán, los cuales les repartieron como heredad^a el sacerdote Eleazar y Josué, hijo de Nun, y las cabezas de las casas¹ de las tribus de los hijos de Israel, 2 por suerte recibieron su heredad tal como el SEÑOR había ordenado por medio de¹ Moisés, a las nueve tribus y a la media tribu^a. 3 Pues Moisés había dado la heredad de las dos tribus y de la media tribu al otro lado del Jordán^a; pero no dio heredad entre ellos a los levitas^b. 4 Porque los hijos de José eran dos tribus, Manasés y Efraín^a; y ellos no dieron a los levitas ninguna porción en su tierra, sino ciudades donde habitar, con sus tierras de pasto para sus ganados y para sus posesiones. 5 Tal como el SEÑOR había ordenado a Moisés, así hicieron los hijos de Israel, y repartieron la tierra^a.

6 Entonces los hijos de Judá vinieron a Josué en Gilgal, y Caleb, hijo de Jefone cenezeo^a, le dijo: Tú sabes lo que¹ el SEÑOR dijo a Moisés, hombre de Dios, acerca de ti y de mí² en Cades-barnea. 7 Yo tenía cuarenta años cuando Moisés, siervo del SEÑOR, me envió de Cades-barnea a reconocer la tierra, y le informé¹ como yo lo sentía en mi corazón^a. 8 Sin embargo, mis hermanos que subieron conmigo, hicieron atemorizar¹ el corazón del pueblo; pero yo seguí plenamente al SEÑOR mi Dios^a. 9 Y aquel día Moisés juró, diciendo: «Ciertamente, la tierra que ha pisado tu pie será herencia tuya y de tus hijos para siempre, porque has seguido plenamente al SEÑOR mi Dios^a». 10 Y ahora, he aquí, el SEÑOR me ha permitido vivir, tal como prometió¹, estos cuarenta y cinco años, desde el día en que el SEÑOR habló estas palabras a Moisés, cuando Israel caminaba en el desierto; y he aquí, ahora tengo ochenta y cinco años. 11 Todavía estoy tan fuerte^a como el día en que Moisés me envió; como era entonces mi fuerza, así es ahora mi fuerza para la guerra, y para salir y para entrar^b. 12 Ahora pues, dame esta región montañosa de la cual el SEÑOR habló aquel día, porque tú oíste aquel día que allí había anaceos^a con grandes ciudades fortificadas; tal vez el SEÑOR esté conmigo y los expulsaré¹ como el SEÑOR ha dicho.

13 Y Josué lo bendijo^a, y dio Hebrón por heredad a Caleb, hijo de Jefone^b. 14 Por tanto, Hebrón vino a ser hasta hoy heredad de Caleb, hijo de Jefone cenezeo, porque siguió plenamente al SEÑOR, Dios de Israel. 15 Y el nombre de Hebrón antes era Quiriat-arba¹; pues Arba era el hombre más grande entre los anaceos. Entonces la tierra descansó de la guerra^a.

Now these are the territories which the sons of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which ^aEleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers’ households of the tribes of the sons of Israel apportioned to them as inheritances, 2 by the ^alot of their inheritance, just as the LORD commanded ¹through Moses, for the nine tribes and the half-tribe. 3 For ^aMoses had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half-tribe beyond the Jordan; but ^bhe did not give an inheritance to the Levites among them. 4 For the sons of Joseph were two tribes, ^aManasseh and Ephraim, and they did not give a portion to the Levites in the land, except cities to live in, with their pasture lands for their livestock and for their property. 5 The sons of Israel did exactly ^aas the LORD had commanded Moses, and they divided the land.

6 Then the sons of Judah approached Joshua in Gilgal, and ^aCaleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, “You know the word which the LORD spoke to Moses the man of God on account of ¹you and me in Kadesh-barnea. 7 I was forty years old when ^aMoses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land, and I brought word back to him as it was in my heart. 8 Nevertheless my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people ¹melt with fear; but ^aI followed the LORD my God fully. 9 So Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘^aThe land on which your foot has walked shall certainly be an inheritance to you and to your children forever, because you have followed the LORD my God fully.’ 10 And now behold, the LORD has let me live, just as He spoke, these forty-five years, from the time that the LORD spoke this word to Moses, when Israel walked in the wilderness; and now behold, I am eighty-five years old today. 11 ^aI am still as strong today as I was on the day Moses sent me; as my strength was then, so my strength is now, for war and for ^bgoing out and coming in. 12 Now then, give me this hill country about which the LORD spoke on that day, for you heard on that day that ^aAnakim were there, with great fortified cities; perhaps the LORD will be with me, and I will ¹drive them out just as the LORD has spoken.”

13 So Joshua ^ablessed him and ^bgave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as an inheritance. 14 Therefore, Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he followed the LORD God of Israel fully. 15 Now the name of Hebron was previously ¹Kiriath-arba; for Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim. ^aThen the land was at rest from war.
