Y sucedió que cuando Adonisedec, rey de Jerusalén, oyó que Josué había capturado a Hai y que la había destruido por completo^1a (como había hecho con Jericó y con su rey, así había hecho con Hai y con su rey), y que los habitantes de Gabaón habían concertado la paz con Israel y estaban dentro de su tierra^2b, 2 tuvo¹ gran temor^a, porque Gabaón era una gran ciudad, como una de las ciudades reales, y porque era más grande que Hai, y todos sus hombres eran valientes. 3 Por tanto, Adonisedec, rey de Jerusalén, envió mensaje a Hoham, rey de Hebrón, a Piream, rey de Jarmut, a Jafía, rey de Laquis y a Debir, rey de Eglón^a, diciendo: 4 Subid a mí y ayudadme, y ataquemos¹ a Gabaón, porque ha hecho paz con Josué y con los hijos de Israel^a. 5 Se reunieron, pues, los cinco reyes de los amorreos^a, el rey de Jerusalén, el rey de Hebrón, el rey de Jarmut, el rey de Laquis y el rey de Eglón, y subieron ellos con todos sus ejércitos, y acamparon junto a Gabaón y lucharon contra ella.

6 Entonces los hombres de Gabaón enviaron mensaje a Josué al campamento de Gilgal, diciendo: No abandones a¹ tus siervos; sube rápidamente a nosotros, sálvanos y ayúdanos, porque todos los reyes de los amorreos que habitan en los montes se han reunido contra nosotros. 7 Y Josué subió de Gilgal, él y toda la gente de guerra con él, y todos los valientes guerreros^a. 8 Y el SEÑOR dijo a Josué: No les tengas miedo, porque los he entregado en tus manos; ninguno¹ de ellos te podrá resistir^a. 9 Vino, pues, Josué sobre ellos de repente, habiendo marchado¹ toda la noche desde Gilgal. 10 Y el SEÑOR los desconcertó delante de Israel, y los hirió con gran matanza en Gabaón^a, y los persiguió por el camino de la subida de Bet-horón, y los hirió hasta Azeca y Maceda. 11 Y sucedió que mientras huían delante de Israel, cuando estaban en la bajada de Bet-horón, el SEÑOR arrojó desde el cielo grandes piedras sobre ellos^a hasta Azeca, y murieron; y fueron más los que murieron por las piedras del granizo que los que mataron a espada los hijos de Israel.

12 Entonces Josué habló al SEÑOR el día en que el SEÑOR entregó a los amorreos delante de los hijos de Israel, y dijo en presencia de Israel:Sol, detente en Gabaón,y tú luna, en el valle de Ajalón^a.

14 Y ni antes ni después hubo día como aquel, cuando el SEÑOR prestó atención a la voz de un hombre; porque el SEÑOR peleó por Israel^a. 15 Entonces Josué, y todo Israel con él, volvió al campamento en Gilgal.

16 Y aquellos cinco reyes^a habían huido y se habían escondido en la cueva de Maceda. 17 Y fue dado aviso a Josué, diciendo: Los cinco reyes han sido hallados escondidos en la cueva de Maceda. 18 Y Josué dijo: Rodad piedras grandes hacia la entrada¹ de la cueva, y poned junto a ella hombres que los vigilen, 19 pero vosotros no os quedéis ahí; perseguid a vuestros enemigos y atacadlos¹ por la retaguardia. No les permitáis entrar en sus ciudades, porque el SEÑOR vuestro Dios los ha entregado en vuestras manos. 20 Y sucedió que cuando Josué y los hijos de Israel terminaron de herirlos con gran matanza, hasta que fueron destruidos, y que los sobrevivientes que de ellos quedaron habían¹ entrado en las ciudades fortificadas^a, 21 todo el pueblo volvió en paz al campamento y a Josué en Maceda. Nadie profirió palabra alguna¹ contra ninguno de los hijos de Israel.

22 Entonces Josué dijo: Abrid la entrada¹ de la cueva y sacadme de ella² a esos cinco reyes. 23 Así lo hicieron, y le trajeron¹ de la cueva a estos cinco reyes^a: el rey de Jerusalén, el rey de Hebrón, el rey de Jarmut, el rey de Laquis y el rey de Eglón. 24 Y sucedió que cuando llevaron¹ estos reyes a Josué, Josué llamó a todos los hombres de Israel, y dijo a los jefes de los hombres de guerra que habían ido con él: Acercaos, poned vuestro pie sobre el cuello de estos reyes. Ellos se acercaron y pusieron los pies sobre sus cuellos^a. 25 Entonces Josué les dijo: No temáis ni os acobardéis. Sed fuertes y valientes, porque así hará el SEÑOR a todos vuestros enemigos con quienes lucháis^a. 26 Después Josué los hirió, les dio muerte y los colgó de cinco árboles, y quedaron colgados de los árboles hasta la tarde^a. 27 Y sucedió que a la hora de la puesta¹ del sol, Josué dio órdenes y los bajaron de los árboles, y los echaron en la cueva donde se habían escondido; y sobre la boca de la cueva pusieron grandes piedras^a que permanecen hasta el día de hoy.

28 Y aquel día Josué conquistó a Maceda, y la hirió a filo de espada junto con su rey; la¹ destruyó por completo² con todas las personas³ que había en ella. No dejó ningún sobreviviente^a; e hizo con el rey de Maceda como había hecho con el rey de Jericó.

29 Josué, y todo Israel con él, pasó de Maceda a Libna, y peleó contra Libna^a; 30 y el SEÑOR la entregó también, junto con su rey, en manos de Israel, que la hirió a filo de espada con todas las personas que había en ella. No dejó ningún sobreviviente en ella, e hizo con su rey como había hecho con el rey de Jericó.

31 Josué, y todo Israel con él, pasó de Libna a Laquis, acampó cerca de ella y la atacó. 32 Y el SEÑOR entregó a Laquis en manos de Israel, la cual conquistó al segundo día, y la hirió a filo de espada con todas las personas que había en ella, conforme a todo lo que había hecho a Libna.

33 Entonces Horam, rey de Gezer^a, subió en ayuda de Laquis, y Josué lo derrotó¹ a él y a su pueblo, hasta no dejar sobreviviente alguno.

34 Josué, y todo Israel con él, pasó de Laquis a Eglón, y acamparon cerca de ella y la atacaron. 35 La conquistaron aquel mismo día y la hirieron a filo de espada; y destruyó por completo aquel día a todas las personas que había en ella, conforme a todo lo que había hecho a Laquis.

36 Entonces subió Josué, y todo Israel con él, de Eglón a Hebrón^a, y pelearon contra ella. 37 La conquistaron y la hirieron a filo de espada, con su rey, todas sus ciudades y todas las personas que había en ella. No dejó ningún sobreviviente, conforme a todo lo que había hecho a Eglón. La destruyó por completo con todas las personas que había en ella.

38 Después Josué, y todo Israel con él, se volvió contra Debir^a y peleó contra ella. 39 La conquistó, con su rey y todas sus ciudades, hiriéndolas a filo de espada; y destruyó por completo a todas las personas que había en ella. No dejó sobreviviente alguno. Como había hecho con Hebrón, y como había hecho también con Libna y su rey, así hizo con Debir y su rey.

40 Hirió, pues, Josué toda la tierra: la región montañosa, el Neguev^1a, la tierra baja² y las laderas, y a todos sus reyes. No dejó ningún sobreviviente, sino que destruyó por completo^b a todo el que tenía vida³, tal como el SEÑOR, Dios de Israel, había mandado^c. 41 Josué los hirió desde Cades-barnea hasta Gaza, y todo el territorio de Gosén^a hasta Gabaón. 42 A todos estos reyes y sus territorios los capturó Josué de una vez, porque el SEÑOR, Dios de Israel, combatía por Israel^a. 43 Y volvió Josué, y todo Israel con él, al campamento en Gilgal.

Now it came about when Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem heard that Joshua had captured Ai, and had ¹utterly destroyed it (just ^aas he had done to Jericho and its king, so he had done to Ai and its king), and that the inhabitants of Gibeon had ^bmade peace with Israel and were ²within their land, 2 that ¹he ^afeared greatly because Gibeon was a great city, like one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all its men were mighty. 3 Therefore Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem sent word ^ato Hoham king of Hebron, to Piram king of Jarmuth, to Japhia king of Lachish, and to Debir king of Eglon, saying, 4 “Come up to me and help me, and let’s ¹attack Gibeon, for it has ^amade peace with Joshua and with the sons of Israel.” 5 So the five kings of ^athe Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon, gathered together and went up, they with all their armies, and camped by Gibeon and fought against it.

6 Then the men of Gibeon sent word to Joshua at the camp at Gilgal, saying, “Do not ¹abandon your servants; come up to us quickly and save us and help us, for all the kings of the Amorites that live in the hill country have assembled against us.” 7 So Joshua went up from Gilgal, he and ^aall the people of war with him, and all the valiant warriors. 8 And the LORD said to Joshua, “^aDo not fear them, for I have handed them over to you; not ¹one of them will stand against you.” 9 So Joshua came upon them suddenly ¹by marching all night from Gilgal. 10 ^aAnd the LORD brought them into confusion before Israel, and He struck them down in a great defeat at Gibeon, and pursued them by the way of the ascent to Beth-horon and struck them as far as Azekah and Makkedah. 11 And as they fled from Israel, while they were at the descent of Beth-horon, ^athe LORD hurled large stones from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died; there were more who died ¹from the hailstones than those whom the sons of Israel killed with the sword.

12 Then Joshua spoke to the LORD on the day when the LORD turned the Amorites over to the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel,“^aSun, stand still at Gibeon,And moon, at the Valley of Aijalon!”

14 There was no day like that before it or after it, when the LORD listened to the voice of a man; for ^athe LORD fought for Israel.

15 Then Joshua and all Israel with him returned to the camp ¹at Gilgal.

16 Now these ^afive kings had fled and hidden themselves in the cave at Makkedah. 17 And it was told to Joshua, saying, “The five kings have been found hidden in the cave at Makkedah.” 18 So Joshua said, “Roll large stones against the mouth of the cave, and post men by it to guard them, 19 but do not stay there yourselves; pursue your enemies and ¹attack them from behind. Do not allow them to enter their cities, for the LORD your God has handed them over to you.” 20 It came about when Joshua and the sons of Israel had finished striking them down in a very great defeat, ^auntil they were destroyed, and the survivors of them who escaped ¹had entered the fortified cities, 21 that all the people returned to the camp, to Joshua at Makkedah in peace. No one ¹uttered a word against any of the sons of Israel.

22 Then Joshua said, “Open the mouth of the cave and bring these five kings out to me from the cave.” 23 They did so, and ^abrought these five kings out to him from the cave: the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon. 24 When they brought these kings out to Joshua, Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the leaders of the men of war who had gone with him, “Come forward, ^aput your feet on the necks of these kings.” So they came forward and put their feet on their necks. 25 Joshua then said to them, “^aDo not fear or be dismayed! Be strong and courageous, for the LORD will do this to all your enemies with whom you fight.” 26 So afterward Joshua struck them and put them to death, and he ^ahanged them on five ¹trees; and they were hung on the ²trees until evening. 27 Then it came about at ¹sunset that Joshua gave the command, and ^athey took them down from the ²trees and threw them into the cave where they had hidden themselves, and put large stones over the mouth of the cave, to this very day.

28 Now Joshua captured Makkedah on that day, and struck it and its king with the edge of the sword; ^ahe ¹utterly destroyed ²it and every ³person who was in it. He left no survivor. So he did to the king of Makkedah ^bjust as he had done to the king of Jericho.

29 Then Joshua and all Israel with him passed on from Makkedah to ^aLibnah, and fought against Libnah. 30 And the LORD also handed it over to Israel, with its king, and he struck it and every person who was in it with the edge of the sword. He left no survivor in it. So he did to its king just as he had done to the king of Jericho.

31 And Joshua and all Israel with him passed on from Libnah to Lachish, and they camped by it and fought against it. 32 And the LORD handed Lachish over to Israel; and he captured it on the second day, and struck it and every person who was in it with the edge of the sword, according to all that he had done to Libnah.

33 Then Horam king of ^aGezer came up to help Lachish, and Joshua ¹defeated him and his people until he had left him no survivor.

34 And Joshua and all Israel with him passed on from Lachish to Eglon, and they camped by it and fought against it. 35 They captured it on that day and struck it with the edge of the sword; and he ¹utterly destroyed on that day every person who was in it, according to all that he had done to Lachish.

36 Then Joshua and all Israel with him went up from Eglon to ^aHebron, and they fought against it. 37 And they captured it and struck it and its king and all its cities and all the persons who were in it with the edge of the sword. He left no survivor, according to all that he had done to Eglon. And he ¹utterly destroyed it and every person who was in it.

38 Then Joshua and all Israel with him returned to ^aDebir, and they fought against it. 39 He captured it and its king and all its cities, and they struck them with the edge of the sword, and ¹utterly destroyed every person who was in it. He left no survivor. Just as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir and its king, as he had also done to Libnah and its king.

40 So Joshua struck all the land, ^athe hill country and the ¹Negev and the lowland and the slopes, and ^ball their kings. He left no survivor, but ^che ²utterly destroyed all who breathed, just as the LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded. 41 Joshua struck them from Kadesh-barnea even as far as Gaza, and all the country of ^aGoshen even as far as Gibeon. 42 Joshua captured all these kings and their lands at one time, because ^athe LORD, the God of Israel, fought for Israel. 43 So Joshua and all Israel with him returned to the camp ¹at Gilgal.
