Después de esto, Jesús andaba por Galilea^a, pues no quería andar por Judea porque los judíos^b procuraban matarle^c. 2 Y la fiesta de los judíos, la de los Tabernáculos^a, estaba cerca. 3 Por eso sus hermanos^a le dijeron: Sal de aquí, y vete a Judea para que también tus discípulos^b vean las obras que tú haces. 4 Porque nadie hace nada en secreto cuando¹ procura ser conocido en público. Si haces estas cosas, muéstrate al mundo. 5 Porque ni aun sus hermanos^a creían en Él. 6 Entonces Jesús les dijo*: Mi tiempo aún no ha llegado^a, pero vuestro tiempo es siempre oportuno. 7 El mundo no puede odiaros a vosotros, pero a mí me odia^a, porque yo doy testimonio de él, que sus acciones son malas^b. 8 Subid vosotros a la fiesta; yo no subo a esta fiesta porque aún mi tiempo no se ha cumplido^a. 9 Y habiéndoles dicho esto, se quedó en Galilea.

10 Pero cuando sus hermanos^a subieron a la fiesta, entonces Él también subió; no abiertamente, sino en¹ secreto. 11 Por eso los judíos^a le buscaban en la fiesta^b y decían: ¿Dónde estáese? 12 Y había mucha murmuración entre la gente acerca de Él. Unos decían: Él es bueno. Otros decían: No, al contrario, extravía a la gente^a. 13 Sin embargo, nadie hablaba abiertamente de Él por miedo a los judíos^a.

14 Pero ya a mitad de la fiesta, Jesús subió al templo y se puso a enseñar^a. 15 Entonces los judíos^a se maravillaban, diciendo: ¿Cómo puedeeste saber de letras^b sin haber estudiado? 16 Jesús entonces les respondió y dijo: Mi enseñanza^a no es mía, sino del que me envió. 17 Si alguien quiere hacer su voluntad, sabrá si mi enseñanza es de Dios o si hablo de mí mismo^a. 18 El que habla de sí mismo busca su propia gloria; pero el que busca la gloria del que le envió^a,este es verdadero y no hay injusticia en Él. 19 ¿No os dio Moisés la ley^a, y sin embargo ninguno de vosotros la cumple¹? ¿Por qué procuráis matarme^b? 20 La multitud contestó: ¡Tienes un demonio^a! ¿Quién procura matarte? 21 Respondió Jesús y les dijo: Una sola obra hice^a y todos os admiráis. 22 Por eso Moisés os ha dado la circuncisión^a (no porque sea de Moisés, sino de los padres^b), y en el día de reposo circuncidáis al hombre. 23 Y si para no violar la ley de Moisés un hombre recibe la circuncisión en el día de reposo^a, ¿por qué estáis enojados conmigo porque sané por completo a un hombre en el día de reposo? 24 No juzguéis por la apariencia, sino juzgad con¹ juicio justo^a.

25 Entonces algunos de Jerusalén decían: ¿No eseste al que procuran matar? 26 Y ved, habla en público y no le dicen nada. ¿No será que en verdad los gobernantes^a reconocen que este es el Cristo¹? 27 Sin embargo, nosotros sabemos de dónde eseste; pero cuando venga el Cristo, nadie sabrá de dónde es^a. 28 Jesús entonces, mientras enseñaba^a en el templo, exclamó en alta voz, diciendo: Vosotros me conocéis y sabéis de dónde soy^b. Yo no he venido por mi propia cuenta^c, pero el que me envió es verdadero, a quien vosotros no conocéis. 29 Yo le conozco^a, porque procedo de Él^b, y Él me envió^c. 30 Procuraban, pues, prenderle^a; pero nadie le echó mano porque todavía no había llegado su hora^b. 31 Pero muchos de la multitud creyeron en Él^a, y decían: Cuando el Cristo^1b venga, ¿acaso hará más señales^2c que las queeste ha hecho? 32 Los fariseos oyeron a la multitud murmurando estas cosas acerca de Él, y los principales sacerdotes y los fariseos enviaron alguaciles^a para que le prendieran^b. 33 Entonces Jesús dijo: Por un poco más de tiempo estoy con vosotros^a; después voy al que me envió^b. 34 Me buscaréis y no me hallaréis; y donde yo esté, vosotros no podéis ir^a. 35 Decían entonces los judíos^a entre sí: ¿Adónde piensa irseeste^b que no le hallemos? ¿Será acaso que quiere irse a la dispersión^c entre los griegos^d y enseñar a los griegos? 36 ¿Qué quiere decir esto que ha dicho: «Me buscaréis y no me hallaréis; y donde yo esté, vosotros no podéis ir^a»?

37 Y en el último día, el gran día de la fiesta^a, Jesús puesto en pie, exclamó en alta voz, diciendo: Si alguno tiene sed, que venga a mí y beba^1b. 38 El que cree en mí, como ha dicho la Escritura: «De lo más profundo de su ser¹ brotarán ríos de agua^a viva^b». 39 Pero Él decía esto del Espíritu^a, que los que habían creído en Él habían de recibir; porque el Espíritu no había sido dado todavía^1b, pues Jesús aún no había sido glorificado^c. 40 Entonces algunos de la multitud, cuando oyeron estas palabras, decían: Verdaderamente este es el Profeta^a. 41 Otros decían: Este es el Cristo¹. Pero otros decían: ¿Acaso el Cristo² ha de venir de Galilea^a? 42 ¿No ha dicho la Escritura que el Cristo viene de la descendencia de David, y de Belén^a, la aldea de donde era David? 43 Así que se suscitó una división^a entre la multitud por causa de Él. 44 Y algunos de ellos querían prenderle, pero nadie le echó mano^a.

45 Entonces los alguaciles^a vinieron a los principales sacerdotes y fariseos, yestos les dijeron: ¿Por qué no le trajisteis? 46 Los alguaciles^a respondieron: ¡Jamás hombre alguno ha hablado como este hombre habla^b! 47 Entonces los fariseos les contestaron: ¿Es que también vosotros os habéis dejado engañar^a? 48 ¿Acaso ha creído en Él alguno de los gobernantes^a, o de los fariseos? 49 Pero esta multitud que no conoce de la ley, maldita es. 50 Nicodemo^a, el que había venido a Jesús¹ antes, y que era uno de ellos, les dijo*: 51 ¿Acaso juzga nuestra ley a un hombre a menos que le oiga primero^a y sepa lo que hace? 52 Respondieron y le dijeron: ¿Es que tú también eres de Galilea^a? Investiga, y verás que ningún profeta surge de Galilea. 53 ¹Y cada uno se fue a su casa.

After these things Jesus ^awas walking in Galilee, for He was unwilling to walk in Judea because ^bthe Jews ^cwere seeking to kill Him. 2 Now the feast of the Jews, ^athe Feast of Booths, was near. 3 So His ^abrothers said to Him, “Move on from here and go into Judea, so that Your ^bdisciples also may see Your works which You are doing. 4 For no one does anything in secret ¹when he himself is striving to be known publicly. If You are doing these things, show Yourself to the world.” 5 For not even His ^abrothers believed in Him. 6 So Jesus *said to them, “^aMy time is not yet here, but your time is always ready. 7 ^aThe world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify about it, that ^bits deeds are evil. 8 Go up to the feast yourselves; I am not going up to this feast, because ^aMy time has not yet fully arrived.” 9 Now having said these things to them, He stayed in Galilee.

10 But when His ^abrothers had gone up to the feast, then He Himself also went up, not publicly, but as though in secret. 11 ^aSo the Jews ^bwere looking for Him at the feast and saying, “Where is He?” 12 And there was a great deal of talk about Him in secret among the crowds: ^asome were saying, “He is a good man”; others were saying, “No, on the contrary, He is misleading the people.” 13 However, no one was speaking openly about Him, for ^afear of ¹the Jews.

14 But when it was now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple area, and began to ^ateach. 15 ^aThe Jews then were astonished, saying, “How has this Man ^bbecome learned, not having been educated?” 16 So Jesus answered them and said, “^aMy teaching is not My own, but His who sent Me. 17 ^aIf anyone is willing to do His will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is of God, or I am speaking from Myself. 18 The one who speaks from himself ^aseeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

19 “^aDid Moses not give you the Law, and yet none of you carries out the Law? Why are you ^bseeking to kill Me?” 20 The crowd answered, “^aYou have a demon! Who is seeking to kill You?” 21 Jesus answered them, “I did ^aone ¹deed, and you all are astonished. 22 For this reason ^aMoses has given you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from ^bthe fathers), and even on a Sabbath you circumcise a man. 23 ^aIf a man receives circumcision on a Sabbath so that the Law of Moses will not be broken, are you angry at Me because I made an entire man well on a Sabbath? 24 Do not ^ajudge by the outward appearance, but judge ¹with righteous judgment.”

25 So some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, “Is this Man not the one whom they are seeking to kill? 26 And yet look, He is speaking publicly, and they are saying nothing to Him. ^aThe rulers do not really know that this is the ¹Christ, do they? 27 However, ^awe know where this Man is from; but when the Christ comes, no one knows where He is from.” 28 Then Jesus cried out in the temple, ^ateaching and saying, “^bYou both know Me and you know where I am from; and ^cI have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you do not know. 29 ^aI do know Him, because ^bI am from Him, and ^cHe sent Me.” 30 So they ^awere seeking to arrest Him; and yet no one laid a hand on Him, because His ^bhour had not yet come. 31 But ^amany of the crowd believed in Him; and they were saying, “^bWhen the ¹Christ comes, He will not perform more ^2csigns than those which this man has done, will He?”

32 The Pharisees heard the crowd whispering these things about Him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent ^aofficers to ^barrest Him. 33 Therefore Jesus said, “^aFor a little while longer I am going to be with you, and then ^bI am going to Him who sent Me. 34 ^aYou will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come.” 35 ^aThe Jews then said to one another, “^bWhere does this Man intend to go that we will not find Him? He does not intend to go to ^cthe Dispersion among ^dthe Greeks, and teach the Greeks, does He? 36 What is this statement that He said, ‘^aYou will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come’?”

37 Now on ^athe last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “^bIf anyone is thirsty, ¹let him come to Me and drink. 38 The one who believes in Me, ^aas the Scripture said, ‘¹From his innermost being will flow rivers of ^bliving water.’” 39 But this He said ^ain reference to the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for ^bthe Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet ^cglorified.

40 Some of the people therefore, after they heard these words, were saying, “This truly is ^athe Prophet.” 41 Others were saying, “This is the ¹Christ.” But others were saying, “^aSurely the ²Christ is not coming from Galilee, is He? 42 Has the Scripture not said that the Christ comes from ^athe descendants of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?” 43 So ^aa dissension occurred in the crowd because of Him. 44 And ^asome of them wanted to arrest Him, but no one laid hands on Him.

45 The ^aofficers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?” 46 The ^aofficers answered, “^bNever has a man spoken in this way!” 47 The Pharisees then replied to them, “^aYou have not been led astray too, have you? 48 ^aNot one of ^bthe rulers or Pharisees has believed in Him, has he? 49 But this crowd that does not know the Law is accursed!” 50 ^aNicodemus (the one who came to Him before, being one of them) *said to them, 51 “^aOur Law does not judge the person unless it first hears from him and knows what he is doing, does it?” 52 They answered and said to him, “^aYou are not from Galilee as well, are you? Examine the Scriptures, and see that no prophet arises out of Galilee.” 53 ¹[[And everyone went to his home.
