Entonces se acercaron todos los capitanes¹ de las tropas, Johanán, hijo de Carea, Jezanías^a, hijo de Osaías, y todo el pueblo desde el menor hasta el mayor^b, 2 y dijeron al profeta Jeremías: Llegue¹ ahora ante ti nuestra súplica^a, y ruega al SEÑOR tu Dios por nosotros^b, por todo este remanente, porque quedamos pocos de muchos que éramos^c, como pueden ver tus ojos, 3 para que el SEÑOR tu Dios nos indique el camino por donde debemos ir^a y lo que debemos hacer. 4 Entonces el profeta Jeremías les dijo: Os he oído. He aquí, voy a orar al SEÑOR vuestro Dios conforme a vuestras palabras^a, y¹ todas las palabras que el SEÑOR os responda, yo os las declararé^b. No os ocultaré palabra alguna^c. 5 Y ellos dijeron a Jeremías: Que el SEÑOR sea un testigo^a veraz y fiel contra nosotros si no obramos conforme a toda palabra que el SEÑOR tu Dios te mande para nosotros. 6 Sea buena o mala, escucharemos la voz del SEÑOR nuestro Dios^a a quien te enviamos, para que nos vaya bien cuando escuchemos la voz del SEÑOR nuestro Dios^b.

7 Y sucedió que al cabo de diez días, vino la palabra del SEÑOR^a a Jeremías. 8 Entonces llamó a Johanán, hijo de Carea, y a todos los capitanes¹ de las tropas que estaban con él, y a todo el pueblo desde el menor hasta el mayor, 9 y les dijo: Así dice el SEÑOR, Dios de Israel, a quien me enviasteis^a para presentar delante de Él vuestra súplica: 10 «Si os quedáis en esta tierra, entonces os edificaré y no os derribaré, os plantaré y no os arrancaré^a, porque estoy arrepentido del¹ mal que os he hecho^b. 11 No temáis al rey de Babilonia^a, a quien teméis; no le temáis»—declara el SEÑOR— «porque yo estoy con vosotros para salvaros y libraros de su mano^b. 12 También tendré compasión de vosotros^a, para que él tenga compasión de vosotros y os restaure a vuestra tierra. 13 Pero si decís: “No nos quedaremos en esta tierra”, no obedeciendo así la voz del SEÑOR vuestro Dios^a, 14 diciendo: “No, sino que iremos a la tierra de Egipto^a, donde no veremos guerra, ni oiremos el sonido de la trompeta, ni tendremos hambre de pan^b, y allí nos quedaremos”; 15 en este caso¹, oíd la palabra del SEÑOR, remanente de Judá. Así dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: “Si os obstináis en² entrar en Egipto, y entráis para residir allí^a, 16 entonces sucederá que la espada que vosotros teméis, os alcanzará allí en la tierra de Egipto, y el hambre que os preocupa^a, os seguirá de cerca allí en Egipto, y allí moriréis. 17 Así pues, todos los hombres que se obstinen en¹ ir a Egipto para residir allí, morirán a espada, de hambre y de pestilencia^a; no les quedará sobreviviente^b ni quien escape del mal que voy a traer sobre ellos”».

18 Porque así dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: Como se derramó mi ira y mi furor sobre los habitantes de Jerusalén^a, así se derramará mi furor sobre vosotros cuando entréis en Egipto. Y seréis motivo de maldición, de horror, de imprecación y de oprobio^b; y no veréis más este lugar^c. 19 El SEÑOR os ha hablado^a, remanente de Judá: No entréis en Egipto. Sabedlo bien^b, que hoy lo he declarado contra vosotros^c. 20 Porque os engañáis a vosotros mismos¹, pues fuisteis vosotros los que me enviasteis al SEÑOR vuestro Dios, diciendo^a: Ruega por nosotros al SEÑOR nuestro Dios, y lo que el SEÑOR nuestro Dios diga, nos lo haces saber y lo haremos. 21 Y hoy os lo he declarado, pero no habéis escuchado la voz del SEÑOR vuestro Dios^a, ni en cosa alguna de lo que Él me ha enviado a deciros^b. 22 Ahora pues, sabedlo bien, que moriréis^a a espada, de hambre y de pestilencia^b en el lugar adonde deseáis ir a residir.

Then all the commanders of the forces, ^aJohanan the son of Kareah, Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people ^bfrom the small to the great approached 2 and said to Jeremiah the prophet, “Please let our ^apleading ¹come before you, and ^bpray for us to the LORD your God for all this remnant—since we have been left only a ^cfew out of many, just as your own eyes now see us— 3 that the LORD your God will tell us the ^away in which we should walk, and the thing that we should do.” 4 Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, “I have heard you. Behold, I am going to ^apray to the LORD your God in accordance with your words; and I will tell you the whole ¹message which the ^bLORD gives you as an answer. I will ^cnot withhold a word from you.” 5 Then they said to Jeremiah, “May the ^aLORD be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act in accordance with the whole ¹message with which the LORD your God will send you to us. 6 Whether it is ¹pleasant or ²unpleasant, we will ^alisten to the voice of the LORD our God to whom we are sending you, so that it may go ^bwell for us when we listen to the voice of the LORD our God.”

7 Now at the ^aend of ten days the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah. 8 Then he called for Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces that were with him, and for all the people from the small to the great, 9 and said to them, “This is what the LORD ^asays, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to present your plea before Him: 10 ‘If you will indeed stay in this land, then I will ^abuild you up and not tear you down, and I will plant you and not uproot you; for I ¹will ^brelent of the disaster that I have inflicted on you. 11 ^aDo not be afraid of the king of Babylon, whom you are now fearing; do not be afraid of him,’ declares the LORD, ‘for ^bI am with you to save you and rescue you from his hand. 12 I will also show you compassion, so that ^ahe will have compassion on you and restore you to your own soil. 13 But if you are going to say, “We will ^anot stay in this land,” so as not to listen to the voice of the LORD your God, 14 saying, “No, but we will ^ago to the land of Egypt, where we will not see war, or ^bhear the sound of a trumpet, or hunger for bread, and we will stay there”; 15 then ¹in that case listen to the word of the LORD, you remnant of Judah. This is what the LORD of armies, the God of Israel says: “If you really set your ²minds to enter ^aEgypt and go in to reside there, 16 then the ^asword, of which you are afraid, will overtake you there in the land of Egypt; and the famine, about which you are anxious, will follow closely after you there in Egypt, and you will die there. 17 So all the people who set their ¹minds to go to Egypt to reside there will die by the ^asword, by famine, or by plague; and they will ^bhave no refugees or survivors from the disaster that I am going to bring on them.”’”

18 For this is what the LORD of armies, the God of Israel says: “As My ^aanger and wrath have gushed out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so My wrath will gush out on you when you enter Egypt. And you will become a ^bcurse, an object of horror, ¹an imprecation, and a disgrace; and ^cyou will not see this place again.” 19 The LORD has spoken to you, you remnant of Judah, “Do not ^ago to Egypt!” You ^bknow for certain that I have ^cadmonished you today. 20 For you have only ^1adeceived yourselves; for it is you who sent me to the LORD your God, saying, “Pray for us to the LORD our God; and whatever the LORD our God says, tell us so, and we will do it.” 21 So I have ^atold you today, but you have ^bnot ¹obeyed the LORD your God in whatever He has sent me to tell you. 22 And now you shall know for certain that you will ^adie by the sword, by famine, or by plague in the ^bplace where you desire to go to reside.
