Subió, pues, Abram de Egipto al Neguev^1a, él y su mujer con todo lo que poseía; y con él, Lot. 2 Y Abram era muy rico en ganado, en plata y en oro^a. 3 Y anduvo en sus jornadas desde el Neguev hasta Betel, al lugar donde su tienda había estado al principio, entre Betel y Hai^a, 4 al lugar del altar que antes había hecho allí; y allí Abram invocó el nombre del SEÑOR^a.

5 Y también Lot, que andaba con Abram^a, tenía ovejas, vacas y tiendas. 6 Y la tierra no podía sostenerlos para que habitaran juntos^a, porque sus posesiones eran tantas que ya no podían habitar juntos^b. 7 Hubo, pues, contienda entre los pastores del ganado de Abram y los pastores del ganado de Lot^a. Y el cananeo y el ferezeo habitaban entonces en aquella¹ tierra^b. 8 Y Abram dijo a Lot: Te ruego que no haya contienda^a entre nosotros¹, ni entre mis pastores y tus pastores, porque somos hermanos. 9 ¿No está toda la tierra delante de ti? Te ruego que te separes de mí: si vas a la izquierda, yo iré a la derecha; y si a la derecha, yo iré a la izquierda. 10 Y alzó Lot los ojos y vio todo el valle^1a del Jordán, el cual estaba bien regado por todas partes (esto fue antes de que el SEÑOR destruyera a Sodoma y Gomorra^b) como el huerto^c del SEÑOR, como la tierra de Egipto^d rumbo² a Zoar^e. 11 Y escogió Lot para sí todo el valle del Jordán; y viajó Lot hacia el oriente. Así se separaron el uno del otro. 12 Abram se estableció¹ en la tierra de Canaán, en tanto que Lot se estableció² en las ciudades del valle, y fue poniendo sus tiendas hasta Sodoma^a. 13 Y los hombres de Sodoma^a eran malos y pecadores contra el SEÑOR en gran manera^b.

14 Y el SEÑOR dijo a Abram después que Lot se había separado de él: Alza ahora los ojos y mira^a desde el lugar donde estás hacia el norte, el sur, el oriente y el occidente^b, 15 pues toda la tierra que ves te la daré a ti^a y a tu descendencia^1b para siempre. 16 Y haré tu descendencia¹ como el polvo de la tierra^a; de manera que si alguien puede contar el polvo de la tierra, también tu descendencia² podrá contarse. 17 Levántate, recorre la tierra^a a lo largo y a lo ancho de ella, porque a ti te la daré^b. 18 Entonces Abram mudó su tienda, y vino y habitó en el encinar¹ de Mamre^a, que está en Hebrón, y edificó allí un altar al SEÑOR^b.

So Abram went up from Egypt to ^athe ¹Negev, he and his wife and all that belonged to him, and Lot with him.

2 Now Abram was ^avery rich in livestock, silver, and gold. 3 And he went ¹on his journeys from the ²Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, ^abetween Bethel and Ai, 4 to the place of the ^aaltar which he had made there previously; and there Abram called on the name of the LORD. 5 Now ^aLot, who went with Abram, also had flocks, herds, and tents. 6 And ^athe land could not ¹support both of them ²while living together, ^bfor their possessions were so great that they were not able to remain together. 7 ^aAnd there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. Now ^bthe Canaanites and the Perizzites were living in the land at that time.

8 ^aSo Abram said to Lot, “Please let there be no strife between you and me, nor between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are relatives! 9 Is the entire land not before you? Please separate from me; if you choose the left, then I will go to the right; or if you choose the right, then I will go to the left.” 10 Lot raised his eyes and saw all the ¹vicinity of the ^aJordan, that it was well watered everywhere—this was before the LORD ^bdestroyed Sodom and Gomorrah—like ^cthe garden of the LORD, ^dlike the land of Egypt ²going toward ^eZoar. 11 So Lot chose for himself all the ¹vicinity of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward. So they separated from each other. 12 Abram ¹settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot ²settled in ^athe cities of the ³vicinity of the Jordan, and moved his tents as far as Sodom. 13 Now ^athe men of Sodom were ¹exceedingly wicked ^bsinners against the LORD.

14 The LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “^aNow raise your eyes and look from the place where you are, ^bnorthward and southward, and eastward and westward; 15 ^afor all the land which you see ^bI will give to you and to your ¹descendants forever. 16 I will make your ¹descendants ^aas plentiful as the dust of the earth, so that if anyone can count the dust of the earth, then your ²descendants could also be counted. 17 Arise, ^awalk about in the land through its length and width; for ^bI will give it to you.” 18 Then Abram moved his tent and came and lived by the ^1aoaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron; and there he built ^ban altar to the LORD.
