Entonces vinieron a mí algunos de los ancianos de Israel y se sentaron delante de mí^a. 2 Y vino a mí la palabra del SEÑOR, diciendo: 3 Hijo de hombre, estos hombres han erigido sus ídolos en su corazón^a, y han puesto delante de su rostro lo que los hace caer en su iniquidad^b. ¿Me dejaré yo consultar por ellos^c? 4 Por tanto, háblales y diles: «Así dice el Señor DIOS¹: “Cualquier hombre de la casa de Israel que erija sus ídolos en su corazón, y que ponga delante de su rostro lo que lo hace caer en su iniquidad, y después venga al profeta, yo, el SEÑOR, le responderé^a entonces² de acuerdo con la multitud de sus ídolos, 5 a fin de alcanzar a la casa de Israel en sus corazones^a, que están apartados de mí a causa de todos¹ sus ídolos^b”».

6 Por tanto, di a la casa de Israel: «Así dice el Señor DIOS: “Arrepentíos y apartaos de vuestros ídolos, y de todas vuestras abominaciones^a apartad vuestros rostros. 7 Porque a cualquiera de la casa de Israel, o de los forasteros que residen en Israel^a, que se aleje de mí y erija sus ídolos en su corazón, que ponga delante de su rostro lo que lo hace caer en su iniquidad, y después venga al profeta para consultarme por medio de él, yo, el SEÑOR, le responderé por mí mismo^b. 8 Y pondré mi rostro contra ese hombre, haré de él señal y proverbio¹, y lo cortaré de en medio de mi pueblo^a; y sabréis que yo soy el SEÑOR^b. 9 Pero si el profeta se deja engañar¹ y dice algo, soy yo, el SEÑOR, el que he engañado² a ese profeta, y extenderé mi mano contra él y lo exterminaré^a de en medio de mi pueblo Israel. 10 Llevarán ambos el castigo de su iniquidad; como la iniquidad del que consulta será la iniquidad del profeta, 11 a fin de que la casa de Israel no se desvíe más de mí ni se contamine más con todas sus transgresiones^a. Y ellos serán mi pueblo y yo seré su Dios^b”»—declara el Señor DIOS^c.

12 Entonces vino a mí la palabra del SEÑOR, diciendo: 13 Hijo de hombre, si un país peca contra mí cometiendo infidelidad^a, y yo extiendo mi mano contra él, destruyo su provisión¹ de pan y envío hambre contra él^b y corto de él hombres y animales, 14 y aunque estos tres hombres^a, Noé^b, Daniel^c y Job, estuvieran en medio de ese país, ellos, por su justicia^d,solo se salvarían a sí mismos^e—declara el Señor DIOS. 15 Si yo hiciera pasar por la tierra fieras y ellas la despoblaran¹, y se volviera desolada sin que nadie pasara por ella a causa de las fieras^a, 16 aunque estos tres hombres estuvieran en medio de ella, vivo yo—declara el Señor DIOS—, ni a sus hijos ni a sus hijas podrían salvar;solo ellos se salvarían, pero el país quedaría desolado^a. 17 O si yo trajera la espada^a contra ese país, y dijera: «Pase la espada por el país», y corto de él hombres^b y animales, 18 y estos tres hombres estuvieran en medio de él, vivo yo—declara el Señor DIOS—, que no podrían salvar ni a sus hijos ni a sus hijas; sino quesolo ellos se salvarían. 19 O si yo enviara una plaga contra ese país y derramara mi furor sobre él con sangre, para cortar de él hombres y animales^a, 20 aunque Noé, Daniel y Job estuvieran en medio de él, vivo yo—declara el Señor DIOS—, que ni a su hijo ni a su hija podrían salvar; ellos, por su justicia,solo se salvarían a sí mismos.

21 Porque así dice el Señor DIOS: ¡Cuánto más cuando yo envíe mis cuatro terribles¹ juicios contra Jerusalén: espada, hambre, fieras y plaga para cortar de ella hombres y animales^a! 22 Sin embargo, he aquí, en ella quedarán sobrevivientes, hijos e hijas que serán sacados. He aquí, saldrán hacia vosotros y veréis su conducta y sus obras; entonces seréis consolados de la calamidad que he traído contra Jerusalén^a, de todo lo que he traído sobre ella^b. 23 Y ellos os consolarán cuando veáis sus caminos y sus obras, y sabréis que no he hecho en vano lo que hice en ella—declara el Señor DIOS^a.

Then some ^aelders of Israel came to me and ^bsat down before me. 2 And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 3 “Son of man, these men have ^aset up their idols in their hearts and have ^bput in front of their faces the stumbling block of their wrongdoing. Should I let Myself be ^cconsulted by them at all? 4 Therefore speak to them and tell them, ‘This is what the Lord ¹GOD says: “Anyone of the house of Israel who sets up his idols in his heart, puts in front of his face the stumbling block of his wrongdoing, and then comes to the prophet, I the LORD will let Myself answer him in ²the matter in view of the ^amultitude of his idols, 5 in order to take hold of ^1athe hearts of the house of Israel who have ^2bturned away from Me due to all their idols.”’

6 “Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says: “^aRepent and turn away from your idols, and turn your faces away from all your ^babominations. 7 For anyone of the house of Israel, or of the ^astrangers who reside in Israel, who deserts Me, sets up his idols in his heart, puts in front of his face the stumbling block of his wrongdoing, and then comes to the prophet to request something of Me for himself, ^bI the LORD will let Myself answer him Myself. 8 I will ^aset My face against that person and make him a ^bsign and ¹a proverb, and I will eliminate him from among My people. So you will know that I am the LORD.

9 “But if the prophet is persuaded so that he speaks a word, it is I, the LORD, who have persuaded that prophet; and I will stretch out My hand against him and ^aeliminate him from among My people Israel. 10 And they will bear the punishment for their wrongdoing; as the wrongdoing of the inquirer is, so the wrongdoing of the prophet will be, 11 in order that the house of Israel may no longer ^astray from Me and no longer ^bdefile themselves with all their offenses. So they will be ^cMy people, and I shall be their God,”’ declares the Lord GOD.”

12 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 13 “Son of man, if a country sins against Me by ^abeing unfaithful, and I stretch out My hand against it, ¹destroy its ^bsupply of bread, send famine against it, and eliminate from it both human and animal life, 14 even ^athough these three men, ^bNoah, ^cDaniel, and ^dJob, were in its midst, by their own righteousness they could only save ^ethemselves,” declares the Lord GOD. 15 “If I were to cause ^avicious animals to pass through the land and they ¹depopulated it, and it became desolate so that no one would pass through it because of the animals, 16 though these three men were in its midst, as I live,” declares the Lord GOD, “they could not save either their sons or their daughters. ^aThey alone would be saved, but the country would be desolate. 17 Or if I were to ^abring a sword on that country and say, ‘A sword is to pass through the country,’ and I ^beliminated human and animal life from it, 18 even though these three men were in its midst, as I live,” declares the Lord GOD, “they could not save either their sons or their daughters, but they alone would be saved. 19 Or if I were to send a ^aplague against that country and pour out My wrath on it in blood to eliminate man and animal from it, 20 even though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in its midst, as I live,” declares the Lord GOD, “they could not save either their son or their daughter. They would save only themselves by their righteousness.”

21 For this is what the Lord GOD says: “How much more when ^aI send My four ¹severe judgments against Jerusalem: sword, famine, vicious animals, and plague to eliminate human and animal life from it! 22 Yet, behold, ¹survivors will be left in it who will be brought out, both sons and daughters. Behold, they are going to come out to you, and you will ^asee their conduct and actions; then you will be ^bcomforted for the disaster which I have brought against Jerusalem for everything which I have brought upon it. 23 Then they will comfort you when you see their conduct and actions, for you will know that I have not done ^awithout reason whatever I did ¹to it,” declares the Lord GOD.
