En el año veintitrés de Joás, hijo de Ocozías, rey de Judá, comenzó a reinar Joacaz, hijo de Jehú, sobre Israel en Samaria, y reinó diecisiete años. 2 E hizo lo malo ante los ojos del SEÑOR, y siguió tras los pecados con que Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, hizo pecar a Israel^a; no se apartó de ellos. 3 Y se encendió la ira del SEÑOR contra Israel^a, y los entregó día tras día en mano de Hazael, rey de Aram^b, y en mano de Ben-adad, hijo de Hazael^c. 4 Entonces Joacaz imploró el favor del SEÑOR^a, y el SEÑOR lo oyó; porque Él vio la opresión de Israel^b, de cómo el rey de Aram los oprimía. 5 Y el SEÑOR dio a Israel un libertador^1a, y escaparon del poder² de los arameos; y habitaron los hijos de Israel en sus tiendas como antes. 6 Con todo, no se apartaron de los pecados con que la casa de Jeroboam hizo pecar a Israel^a, sino que anduvieron en ellos¹; y también la Asera^b permaneció en pie en Samaria. 7 Pues a Joacaz no le había quedado del ejército¹ más que cincuenta hombres de a caballo, diez carros y diez mil hombres de a pie, porque el rey de Aram los había destruido y los había hecho como polvo de trilla^a. 8 Los demás hechos de Joacaz y todo lo que hizo y su poder, ¿no están escritos en el libro de las Crónicas de los reyes de Israel? 9 Y durmió Joacaz con sus padres y lo sepultaron en Samaria, y su hijo Jeoás¹ reinó en su lugar.

10 En el año treinta y siete de Joás, rey de Judá, Jeoás¹, hijo de Joacaz, comenzó a reinar sobre Israel en Samaria, y reinó dieciséis años. 11 E hizo lo malo ante los ojos del SEÑOR; no se apartó de todos los pecados con que Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, hizo pecar a Israel, sino que anduvo en ellos¹. 12 ^aLos demás hechos de Jeoás¹, y todo lo que hizo, y el poder con que peleó contra Amasías, rey de Judá, ¿no están escritos en el libro de las Crónicas de los reyes de Israel? 13 Y durmió Jeoás con sus padres, y Jeroboam se sentó en su trono; y Jeoás fue sepultado en Samaria con los reyes de Israel.

14 Cuando Eliseo se enfermó con la enfermedad¹ de la cual había de morir, Jeoás, rey de Israel, descendió a él y lloró sobre su rostro, y dijo: ¡Padre mío, padre mío, los carros de Israel y sus hombres de a caballo^a! 15 Y Eliseo le dijo: Toma un arco y flechas. Y él tomó¹ un arco y flechas. 16 Entonces dijo al rey de Israel: Pon tu mano en el arco. Y él puso su mano sobre el arco; entonces Eliseo colocó sus manos sobre las manos del rey. 17 Y dijo: Abre la ventana hacia el oriente, y él la abrió. Entonces Eliseo dijo: Tira. Y él tiró. Y Eliseo dijo: Flecha de victoria del SEÑOR, y flecha de victoria sobre Aram, porque derrotarás¹ a los arameos en Afec^a hasta exterminarlos. 18 Entonces añadió: Toma las flechas; y él las tomó. Y dijo al rey de Israel: Golpea la tierra; y él la golpeó tres veces y se detuvo. 19 Y el hombre de Dios se enojó con él^a, y dijo: Deberías haber golpeado cinco o seis veces, entonces hubieras herido a Aram hasta exterminarlo. Pero ahora herirás a Aramsolo tres veces^b.

20 Y murió Eliseo y lo sepultaron. Y las bandas de los moabitas solían invadir la tierra^a en la primavera¹ de cada año. 21 Y cuando estaban sepultando a un hombre, he aquí, vieron una banda de merodeadores y arrojaron al hombre en la tumba de Eliseo. Y cuando el hombre cayó¹ y tocó los huesos de Eliseo, revivió, y se puso en pie^a.

22 Y Hazael, rey de Aram, había oprimido a Israel^a todos los días de Joacaz. 23 Pero el SEÑOR tuvo piedad de ellos^a, y les tuvo compasión y se volvió a ellos^b a causa de su pacto con Abraham^c, Isaac y Jacob, y no quiso destruirlos ni echarlos de su presencia hasta hoy. 24 Al morir Hazael, rey de Aram, su hijo Ben-adad reinó en su lugar. 25 Entonces Jeoás, hijo de Joacaz, recobró de nuevo de mano de Ben-adad, hijo de Hazael, las ciudades queeste había tomado en guerra de mano de su padre Joacaz. Tres veces Jeoás lo derrotó^1a y recobró las ciudades de Israel^b.

In the twenty-third year of Joash the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu became king over Israel at Samaria, and he reigned for seventeen years. 2 He did evil in the sight of the LORD, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, ^ainto which he misled Israel; he did not turn from them. 3 ^aSo the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and He continually handed them over to ^bHazael king of Aram, and to ^cBen-hadad, the son of Hazael. 4 Then ^aJehoahaz appeased the LORD, and the LORD listened to him; for ^bHe saw the oppression of Israel, how the king of Aram oppressed them. 5 And the LORD gave Israel a ^1asavior, so that they ²escaped from under the hand of the Arameans; and the sons of Israel lived in their tents as previously. 6 Nevertheless they did not abandon the sins of the house of Jeroboam, ^ainto which he misled Israel; rather, they walked in ¹them; and ^bthe ²Asherah also remained standing in Samaria. 7 For he left to Jehoahaz no more of the ¹army than fifty horsemen, ten chariots, and ten thousand infantry, because the king of Aram had eliminated them and ^amade them like the dust at threshing. 8 Now as for the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did and his might, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 9 And Jehoahaz ¹lay down with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria; and his son Joash became king in his place.

10 In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, ¹Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz became king over Israel in Samaria, and he reigned for sixteen years. 11 He did evil in the sight of the LORD; he did not turn away from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, into which he misled Israel; rather, he walked in ¹them. 12 ^aNow as for the rest of the acts of Joash and all that he did, and his might with which he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 13 So Joash ¹lay down with his fathers, and Jeroboam sat on his throne; and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.

14 When Elisha ¹became sick with the illness of which he was to die, Joash the king of Israel came down to him, and wept over ²him and said, “^aMy father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” 15 And Elisha said to him, “Take a bow and arrows.” So he ¹took a bow and arrows. 16 Then Elisha said to the king of Israel, “Lay your hand on the bow.” And he laid his hand on it, then Elisha put his hands on the king’s hands. 17 And he said, “Open the window toward the east,” and he opened it. Then Elisha said, “Shoot!” So he shot. And he said, “The LORD’S arrow of victory, and the arrow of victory over Aram; for you will ¹defeat the Arameans at ^aAphek until you have put an end to them.” 18 Then he said, “Take the arrows,” and he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, “Strike the ground,” and he struck it three times and ¹stopped. 19 Then ^athe man of God became angry at him and said, “You should have struck five or six times, then you would have struck Aram until you put an end to it. But now you shall strike Aram ^bonly three times.”

20 And Elisha died, and they buried him. Now ^athe marauding bands of the Moabites would invade the land ¹in the spring of the year. 21 And as they were burying a man, behold, they saw a marauding band; and they threw the man into the grave of Elisha. And when the man ¹touched the bones of Elisha he ^arevived and stood up on his feet.

22 Now ^aHazael king of Aram had oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz. 23 But the ^aLORD was gracious to them and ^bhad compassion on them and turned to them because of ^cHis covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and He was unwilling to eliminate them or cast them away from His presence until now.

24 When Hazael king of Aram died, his son Ben-hadad became king in his place. 25 Then ^aJehoash the son of Jehoahaz again took from the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael the cities which he had taken in war from the hand of his father Jehoahaz. ^bThree times Joash ¹defeated him and recovered the cities of Israel.
