Y todo el pueblo de Judá tomó a Uzías¹, que tenía dieciséis años, y lo hicieron rey en lugar de su padre Amasías. 2 Él edificó a Elot¹ y la restituyó a Judá después que el rey durmió con sus padres. 3 ^aUzías tenía dieciséis años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó cincuenta y dos años en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre era Jecolías, de Jerusalén. 4 E hizo lo recto ante los ojos del SEÑOR, conforme a todo lo que su padre Amasías había hecho. 5 Y persistió en buscar a Dios en los días de Zacarías^a, quien tenía entendimiento^b por medio de la visión¹ de Dios; y mientras buscó al² SEÑOR, Dios le prosperó^c.

6 Salió y peleó contra los filisteos^a, y derribó la muralla de Gat, la muralla de Jabnia y la muralla de Asdod; y edificó ciudades en la región de Asdod y entre los filisteos. 7 Y Dios lo ayudó contra los filisteos, contra los árabes^a que habitaban en Gurbaal y contra los meunitas. 8 Y los amonitas pagaron tributo^a a Uzías, y su fama se divulgó hasta la frontera¹ de Egipto, pues llegó a ser muy poderoso. 9 Uzías edificó además torres en Jerusalén en la puerta del Angulo^a, en la puerta del Valle^b y en la esquina de la muralla, y las fortificó. 10 Edificó también torres en el desierto y excavó muchas cisternas^a, porque tenía mucho ganado, tanto en las tierras bajas¹ como en la llanura. También tenía labradores y viñadores en la región montañosa y en los campos fértiles porque amaba la tierra². 11 Tenía también Uzías un ejército listo para la batalla, que salía al combate por divisiones conforme al número de su alistamiento, preparado por el¹ escriba Jeiel y el oficial Maasías, bajo la dirección de Hananías, uno de los oficiales del rey. 12 El número total de los jefes de familia, guerreros valientes, era de dos mil seiscientos. 13 Y bajo su mando¹ estaba un ejército poderoso de trescientos siete mil quinientos, que hacían la guerra con gran poder^a, para ayudar al rey contra el enemigo. 14 Uzías proveyó además a todo el ejército¹ de escudos, lanzas, yelmos, corazas, arcos y hondas para tirar piedras. 15 Y en Jerusalén hizo máquinas de guerra inventadas por hombres hábiles para ponerlas en las torres y en las esquinas, para arrojar flechas y grandes piedras. Por eso su fama¹ se extendió lejos, porque fue ayudado en forma prodigiosa hasta que se hizo fuerte.

16 Pero cuando llegó a ser fuerte, su corazón se hizo tan orgulloso¹ que obró corruptamente^a, y fue infiel al SEÑOR su Dios, pues entró al templo del SEÑOR para quemar incienso sobre el altar del incienso^b. 17 Entonces el sacerdote Azarías^a entró tras él, y con él ochenta sacerdotes del SEÑOR, hombres valientes, 18 y se opusieron al rey Uzías^a, y le dijeron: No te corresponde a ti, Uzías, quemar incienso al SEÑOR, sino a los sacerdotes, hijos de Aarón, que son consagrados para quemar incienso^b. Sal del santuario, porque has sido infiel y no recibirás honra del SEÑOR Dios. 19 Pero Uzías, con un incensario en su mano para quemar incienso, se llenó de ira; y mientras estaba airado contra los sacerdotes, la lepra le brotó^a en la frente, delante de los sacerdotes en la casa del SEÑOR, junto al altar del incienso. 20 Y el sumo sacerdote Azarías y todos los sacerdotes lo miraron, y he aquí, tenía lepra en la frente; y le hicieron salir de allí a toda prisa, y también él mismo se apresuró a salir, porque el SEÑOR lo había herido. 21 ^aY el rey Uzías quedó leproso hasta el día de su muerte, y habitó en una casa separada^b, ya que era leproso, porque fue excluido de la casa del SEÑOR. Y su hijo Jotam estaba al frente de la casa del rey gobernando¹ al pueblo de la tierra. 22 Los demás hechos de Uzías, los primeros y los postreros, fueron escritos por el profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz^a. 23 Y durmió Uzías con sus padres, y lo sepultaron con sus padres en el campo del sepulcro que pertenecía a los reyes^a, porque dijeron: Es leproso. Y su hijo Jotam reinó en su lugar.

Now all the people of Judah took ¹Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah. 2 He built Eloth and restored it to Judah after the king ¹lay down with his fathers. 3 Uzziah was ^asixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned for fifty-two years in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name was ¹Jechiliah of Jerusalem. 4 He did what was right in the sight of the LORD, in accordance with everything that his father Amaziah had done. 5 ^aHe continued to seek God in the days of Zechariah, ^bwho had understanding ¹through the vision of God; and ^2cas long as he sought the LORD, God made him successful.

6 Now he went out and ^afought against the Philistines, and broke down the wall of Gath, the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod; and he built cities in the area of Ashdod and among the Philistines. 7 ^aGod helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians who lived in Gur-baal, and the Meunites. 8 The Ammonites gave ^atribute to Uzziah, and his ¹fame extended to the border of Egypt, for he became very strong. 9 Moreover, Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at ^athe Corner Gate, the ^bValley Gate, and at the corner buttress, and he fortified them. 10 He also built towers in the wilderness and ^acarved out many cisterns, for he had much livestock, both in the ¹lowland and in the plain. He also had plowmen and vinedressers in the hill country and the fertile fields, for he loved the soil. 11 Moreover, Uzziah had an army ready for battle, which ¹entered combat by divisions according to the number of their muster, ²recorded by Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the official, under the direction of Hananiah, one of the king’s officers. 12 The total number of the heads of the ¹households, of valiant warriors, was 2,600. 13 Under their direction was an army of ^a307,500, who could wage war with great power, to help the king against the enemy. 14 Moreover, Uzziah prepared ¹for all the army shields, spears, helmets, body armor, bows, and slingstones. 15 In Jerusalem he made machines of war invented by skillful workmen to be on the towers and the corners, for the purpose of shooting arrows and great stones. So his ¹fame spread far, for he was marvelously helped until he was strong.

16 But ^awhen he became strong, his heart was so ¹proud that he acted corruptly, and he was untrue to the LORD his God, for ^bhe entered the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense. 17 Then ^aAzariah the priest entered after him, and with him eighty priests of the LORD, valiant men. 18 ^aThey opposed Uzziah the king and said to him, “^bIt is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD, ^cbut for the priests, the sons of Aaron who have been consecrated to burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have been untrue and will have no honor from the LORD God.” 19 But Uzziah, with a censer in his hand for burning incense, was enraged; and while he was enraged with the priests, ^aleprosy broke out on his forehead in the presence of the priests in the house of the LORD, beside the altar of incense. 20 Azariah the chief priest and all the priests looked at him, and behold, he was leprous on his forehead; and they quickly removed him from there, and he himself also hurried to get out because the LORD had stricken him. 21 ^aKing Uzziah had leprosy to the day of his death; and he lived in ^ba separate house, afflicted as he was with leprosy, for he was cut off from the house of the LORD. And his son Jotham was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.

22 Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, the first to the last, the prophet ^aIsaiah, the son of Amoz, has written. 23 So Uzziah ¹lay down with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers ^ain the field of the grave which belonged to the kings, for they said, “He had leprosy.” And his son Jotham became king in his place.
