Cuando el reino de Roboam se había afianzado y fortalecido^a, él abandonó la ley del SEÑOR^b y todo Israel con él. 2 Y sucedió que en el año quinto del rey Roboam, debido a que ellos habían sido infieles al SEÑOR, Sisac, rey de Egipto^a, subió contra Jerusalén^b 3 con mil doscientos carros y sesenta mil hombres de a caballo. Y era innumerable¹ el pueblo que vino con él de Egipto: libios, suquienos y etíopes^a. 4 Y tomó las ciudades fortificadas de Judá y llegó hasta Jerusalén^a. 5 Entonces el profeta Semaías^a vino a Roboam y a los príncipes de Judá que se habían reunido en Jerusalén por causa de Sisac, y les dijo: Así dice el SEÑOR: «Vosotros me habéis abandonado, por eso también yo os abandono^b en manos de Sisac». 6 Y los príncipes de Israel y el rey se humillaron y dijeron: Justo es el SEÑOR^a.

7 Cuando el SEÑOR vio que se habían humillado, vino la palabra del SEÑOR a Semaías, diciendo: Se han humillado; no los destruiré^a, sino que les concederé cierta libertad y mi furor no se derramará^b sobre Jerusalén por medio de Sisac. 8 Pero serán sus siervos para que aprendan la diferencia entre servirme a mí¹ y servir a² los reinos de los países^a.

9 ^aSubió, pues, Sisac, rey de Egipto, contra Jerusalén y tomó los tesoros de la casa del SEÑOR y los tesoros del palacio del rey. De todo se apoderó, tomó hasta los escudos de oro que había hecho Salomón^b. 10 Entonces el rey Roboam hizo en su lugar escudos de bronce, y los entregó al cuidado¹ de los jefes de la guardia² que custodiaban la entrada de la casa del rey. 11 Y sucedía que cuando el rey entraba en la casa del SEÑOR, venían los de la guardia¹ y los llevaban, y después los devolvían a la sala de los de la guardia². 12 Cuando él se humilló^a, la ira del SEÑOR se apartó de él para no destruirlo totalmente; además las cosas mejoraron^b en Judá.

13 Se fortaleció, pues, el rey Roboam en Jerusalén, y reinó. Y Roboam tenía cuarenta y un años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó diecisiete años en Jerusalén, la ciudad que el SEÑOR había escogido de entre todas las tribus de Israel para poner allí su nombre. Y el nombre de su madre era Naama, amonita^a. 14 Y él hizo lo malo porque no dispuso su corazón para buscar al SEÑOR^a.

15 Los hechos de Roboam^a, los primeros y los postreros, ¿no están escritos en los libros¹ del profeta Semaías^b y del vidente Iddo^c, conforme al registro genealógico? Y hubo guerras continuamente entre Roboam y Jeroboam. 16 Y durmió Roboam con sus padres, y fue sepultado en la ciudad de David; y su hijo Abías^1a reinó en su lugar.

^aWhen the kingdom of Rehoboam was established and strong, ^bhe and all Israel with him abandoned the Law of the LORD. 2 ^aAnd it came about in King Rehoboam’s fifth year, because they had been unfaithful to the LORD, that ^bShishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem 3 with 1,200 chariots and sixty thousand horsemen. And the people who came with him from Egypt were innumerable: ^athe Lubim, the Sukkiim, and the Ethiopians. 4 And he captured ^athe fortified cities of Judah and came as far as Jerusalem. 5 Then ^aShemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam and the princes of Judah who had gathered at Jerusalem because of Shishak, and he said to them, “This is what the LORD says: ‘^bYou have abandoned Me, so I also have abandoned you ¹to Shishak.’” 6 So the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, “The ^aLORD is righteous.”

7 When the LORD saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, “^aThey have humbled themselves, so I will not destroy them; and I will grant them a little deliverance, and ^bMy wrath will not be poured out on Jerusalem by means of Shishak. 8 But they will become his slaves, so ^athat they may learn the difference between My service and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.”

9 ^aSo Shishak king of Egypt went up against Jerusalem, and he took the treasures of the house of the LORD and the treasures of the king’s palace. He took everything; ^bhe even took the gold shields which Solomon had made. 10 Then King Rehoboam made shields of bronze in their place and committed them to the ¹care of the commanders of the ²guards who guarded the entrance of the king’s house. 11 As often as the king entered the house of the LORD, the ¹guards came and carried them and then brought them back into the ²guards’ room. 12 And ^awhen he humbled himself, the anger of the LORD turned away from him, so as not to destroy him completely; and conditions ^bwere also good in Judah.

13 ^aSo King Rehoboam became powerful in Jerusalem and reigned there. For Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen from all the tribes of Israel, to put His name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonitess. 14 But he did evil ^abecause he did not set his heart to seek the LORD.

15 ^aNow the acts of Rehoboam, from the first to the last, are they not written in the ¹records of ^bShemaiah the prophet and of ^cIddo the seer, according to genealogical enrollment? And there were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually. 16 And Rehoboam ¹lay down with his fathers and was buried in the city of David; and his son ^aAbijah became king in his place.
