Entonces llegó David a Nob^a, al sacerdote Ahimelec; y Ahimelec vino tembloroso al encuentro de David^b, y le dijo: ¿Por qué estás solo y no hay nadie contigo? 2 Y David respondió al sacerdote Ahimelec: El rey me ha encomendado cierto asunto y me ha dicho: «Que no sepa nadie acerca del asunto por el cual te envío y que te he encomendado^a; y yo he citado a los jóvenes a cierto lugar». 3 Ahora pues, ¿qué tienes a mano¹? Dame² cinco panes, o lo que tengas³. 4 Respondió el sacerdote a David, y dijo: No hay pan común a mano¹, pero hay pan consagrado^a; siempre que los jóvenes se hayan abstenido de mujer^b. 5 Y David respondió al sacerdote, y le dijo: Ciertamente las mujeres nos han sido vedadas; como anteriormente, cuando he salido en campaña, los cuerpos¹ de los jóvenes se han mantenido puros^a, aunque haya sido un viaje profano; ¿cuánto más puros estarán sus cuerpos² hoy^b? 6 Entonces el sacerdote le dio pan consagrado^a; porque allí no había otro pan, sino el pan de la Presencia¹ que había sido quitado de delante del SEÑOR para colocar pan caliente en su lugar al ser retirado^b.

7 Y uno de los siervos de Saúl estaba allí aquel día, detenido delante del SEÑOR; se llamaba Doeg edomita^a, jefe de los pastores de Saúl^b.

8 Y David dijo a Ahimelec: ¿No tienes aquí a mano¹ una lanza o una espada? Pues no traje ni espada ni armas conmigo², porque el asunto del rey era urgente. 9 Entonces el sacerdote dijo: He aquí, la espada de Goliat el filisteo^a, a quien mataste¹ en el valle de Ela^b, está envuelta en un paño detrás del efod; si quieres llevártela, tómala, porque aquí no hay otra sinoesa. Y David dijo: Comoesa no hay otra; dámela.

10 David se levantó y huyó aquel día de Saúl, y fue a donde estaba Aquis, rey de Gat^a. 11 Pero los siervos de Aquis^a le dijeron: ¿No eseste David, el rey de la tierra? ¿No cantaban de él en las danzas, diciendo:«Saúl mató a sus miles,y David a sus diez miles^b»? 12 David tomó en serio¹ estas palabras^a y temió grandemente a Aquis, rey de Gat. 13 Y se fingió demente¹ ante sus ojos^a y actuaba como loco en medio² de ellos; escribía garabatos en las puertas de la entrada y dejaba que su saliva le corriera por la barba. 14 Entonces Aquis dijo a sus siervos: He aquí, veis al hombre portándose como un loco. ¿Por qué me lo traéis? 15 ¿Acaso me hacen falta locos, que me habéis traído aeste para que haga de loco en mi presencia? ¿Va a entrareste en mi casa?

Then David came to ^aNob, to Ahimelech the priest; and Ahimelech ^bcame trembling to meet David and said to him, “Why are you alone, and no one with you?” 2 David said to Ahimelech the priest, “The king has commissioned me with a matter and has said to me, ‘^aNo one is to know anything about the matter on which I am sending you and with which I have commissioned you; and I have directed the young men to a certain place.’ 3 Now then, what ¹do you have on hand? Give ²me five loaves of bread, or whatever can be found.” 4 The priest answered David and said, “There is no ordinary bread ¹on hand, but there is ^aconsecrated bread, if only the young men have ^bkept themselves from women.” 5 David answered the priest and said to him, “^aBe assured, women have been denied to us as previously when I left and the ^1bbodies of the young men were consecrated, though it was an ordinary journey; how much more then will ²their bodies be consecrated today?” 6 So ^athe priest gave him consecrated bread; for there was no bread there except the ^bbread of the Presence which was removed from its place before the LORD, in order to put hot bread in its place on the day it was taken away.

7 Now one of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the LORD; and his name was ^aDoeg the Edomite, the ^bchief of Saul’s shepherds.

8 David said to Ahimelech, “Now is there no spear or sword ¹on hand? For I brought neither my sword nor my weapons ²with me, because the king’s matter was urgent.” 9 Then the priest said, “^aThe sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you ¹killed ^bin the Valley of Elah, behold, it is wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod; if you would take it for yourself, take it. For there is no other except it here.” And David said, “There is none like it; give it to me.”

10 Then David set out and fled that day from Saul, and went to ^aAchish king of Gath. 11 But the ^aservants of Achish said to him, “Is this not David, the king of the land? ^bDid they not sing of this one as they danced, saying,‘Saul has slain his thousands,And David his ten thousands’?” 12 David ^atook these words ¹to heart and greatly feared Achish king of Gath. 13 So he ^adisguised his sanity while in their sight and acted insanely in their ¹custody, and he scribbled on the doors of the gate, and drooled on his beard. 14 Then Achish said to his servants, “Look, you see the man is behaving like an insane person. Why do you bring him to me? 15 Do I lack insane people, that you have brought this one to behave like an insane person in my presence? Shall this one come into my house?”
