El vino^a es escarnecedor, la bebida fuerte^b alborotadora,y cualquiera que con¹ ellos se embriaga no es sabio.2 Como rugido de león es el terror al rey,el que lo provoca a ira peca contra su propia alma^a.3 Es honra para el hombre eludir¹ las contiendas,pero cualquier necio se enredará en ellas²^a.4 Desde el otoño, el perezoso no ara^a,pide en la cosecha, y no hay nada.5 Como aguas profundas es el consejo en el corazón del hombre,y el hombre de entendimiento lo sacará.6 Muchos hombres proclaman su propia lealtad¹^a,pero un hombre digno de confianza^b, ¿quién lo hallará?7 El justo anda en su integridad^a;¡cuán dichosos son sus hijos después de él^b!8 El rey que se sienta sobre el trono del juicio^a,disipa¹ con sus ojos todo mal.9 ¿Quién puede decir: Yo he limpiado mi corazón,limpio estoy de mi pecado^a?10 Pesas desiguales y medidas desiguales¹,ambas cosas son abominables al SEÑOR^a.11 Aun por sus hechos da a conocer un muchacho^asi su conducta es pura y recta.12 El oído que oye y el ojo que ve,ambos los ha hecho el SEÑOR^a.13 No ames el sueño^a, no sea que te empobrezcas;abre tus ojos y te saciarás de pan.14 Malo, malo, dice el comprador,pero cuando se marcha, entonces se jacta.15 Hay oro y abundancia de joyas¹,pero cosa más preciosa son los labios con conocimiento.16 Tómale la ropa al que¹ sale fiador del extraño;y tómale prenda por los extranjeros.17 El pan obtenido con falsedad es dulce al hombre^a,pero después su boca se llenará de grava.18 Los proyectos con consejo se preparan^a,y con dirección sabia se hace la guerra^b.19 El que anda murmurando revela secretos^a,por tanto no te asocies con el chismoso¹^b.20 Al que maldice a su padre o a su madre^a,se le apagará^b su lámpara en medio¹ de las tinieblas.21 La herencia adquirida de prisa al principio,no será bendecida al final.22 No digas: Yo pagaré mal por mal^a;espera en el SEÑOR^b, y Él te salvará.23 Pesas desiguales¹ son abominación al SEÑOR^a,y una balanza falsa² no es buena^b.24 Por el SEÑOR son ordenados los pasos del hombre^a,¿cómo puede, pues, el hombre entender su camino?25 Lazo es para el hombre decir a la ligera: Es santo,y después de los votos investigar^a.26 El rey sabio avienta a los impíos^a,y hace pasar¹ la rueda de trillar^b sobre ellos.27 Lámpara del SEÑOR es el espíritu¹ del hombre^aque escudriña lo más profundo de su ser².28 Lealtad¹ y verdad guardan al rey,y por la justicia² sostiene su trono^a.29 La gloria de los jóvenes es su fuerza,y la honra¹ de los ancianos, sus canas^a.30 Los azotes que hieren limpian del mal^a,y los golpes llegan a lo más profundo¹ del cuerpo.

On Life and Conduct

^aWine is a mocker, ^bintoxicating drink a brawler,And whoever ¹is intoxicated by it is not wise.2 The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion;One who provokes him to anger ¹^aforfeits his own life.3 ^aAvoiding strife is an honor for a person,But any fool will ¹quarrel.4 The ¹^alazy one does not plow after the autumn,So he ²begs during the harvest and has nothing.5 A plan in the heart of a person is like deep water,But a person of understanding draws it out.6 Many a person ^aproclaims his own loyalty,But who can find a ^btrustworthy person?7 A righteous person who ^awalks in his integrity—^bHow blessed are his sons after him.8 ^aA king who sits on the throne of justice¹Disperses all evil with his eyes.9 ^aWho can say, “I have cleansed my heart,I am pure from my sin”?10 ¹^aDiffering weights and differing measures,Both of them are abominable to the LORD.11 It is by his deeds that a boy ¹^adistinguishes himself,If his conduct is pure and right.12 The hearing ^aear and the seeing eye,The LORD has made both of them.13 ^aDo not love sleep, or you will become poor;Open your eyes, and you will be satisfied with ¹food.14 “Bad, bad,” says the buyer,But when he goes his way, then he boasts.15 There is gold, and an abundance of ¹jewels;But lips of knowledge are a more precious thing.16 Take his garment when he becomes guarantor for a stranger;And for foreigners, seize a pledge from him.17 ^aBread obtained by a lie is sweet to a person,But afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel.18 Prepare ^aplans by consultation,And ^bmake war by wise guidance.19 One who ^agoes about as a slanderer reveals secrets;Therefore do not associate with ¹^ba gossip.20 He who ^acurses his father or his mother,His ^blamp will go out in time of darkness.21 An inheritance gained in a hurry at the beginningWill not be blessed in the end.22 ^aDo not say, “I will repay evil”;^bWait for the LORD, and He will save you.23 ¹^aDiffering weights are an abomination to the LORD,And a ²^bfalse scale is not good.24 ^aA man’s steps are ordained by the LORD;How then can a person understand his way?25 It is a trap for a person to say carelessly, “It is holy!”And ^aafter the vows to make inquiry.26 A ^awise king scatters the wicked,And ¹drives a ^bthreshing wheel over them.27 The ¹^aspirit of a person is the lamp of the LORD,Searching all the ²innermost parts of his being.28 ¹Loyalty and ^atruth watch over the king,And he upholds his throne by ²loyalty.29 The glory of young men is their strength,And the ¹^ahonor of old men is their gray hair.30 ^aBruising wounds clean away evil,And blows cleanse the ¹innermost parts.
