Y Sansón descendió a Timnat y vio allí¹ a una mujer de las hijas de los filisteos. 2 Cuando regresó¹, se lo contó a su padre y a su madre, diciendo: Vi en Timnat a una mujer de las hijas de los filisteos; ahora pues, tomádmela por mujer. 3 Le respondieron¹ su padre y su madre: ¿No hay mujer entre las hijas de tus parientes² o entre todo nuestro³ pueblo, para que vayas a tomar mujer de los filisteos incircuncisos^a? Pero Sansón dijo a su padre: Tómala para mí, porque ella me agrada⁴. 4 Y su padre y su madre no sabían que esto era del SEÑOR, porque Él buscaba ocasión contra los filisteos^a, pues en aquel tiempo los filisteos dominaban a Israel.

5 Y Sansón descendió a Timnat con su padre y con su madre, y llegó hasta los viñedos de Timnat; y he aquí, un león joven venía rugiendo hacia él. 6 Y el Espíritu del SEÑOR vino¹ sobre él^a con gran poder, y lo despedazó como se despedaza un cabrito, aunque no tenía nada en su mano^b; pero no contó a su padre ni a su madre lo que había hecho. 7 Descendió y habló con la mujer; y ella le agradó a Sansón¹. 8 Cuando regresó más tarde para tomarla, se apartó del camino para ver el cadáver del león; y he aquí que había un enjambre de abejas y miel en el cuerpo del león. 9 Recogió la miel¹ en sus manos² y siguió adelante, comiéndola mientras caminaba. Cuando llegó adonde estaban su padre y su madre, les dio miel y ellos comieron; pero no les contó que había recogido la miel del cuerpo del león.

10 Entonces el padre descendió adonde estaba la mujer; y Sansón hizo allí un banquete, porque así acostumbraban hacer los jóvenes. 11 Y sucedió que cuando lo vieron, trajeron a treinta compañeros para que estuvieran con él. 12 Y Sansón les dijo: Permitidme proponeros ahora un enigma^a; y si en verdad me lo declaráis dentro de los siete días del banquete, y lo descifráis, entonces os daré treinta vestidos de lino y treinta mudas de ropa^b. 13 Pero si no podéis declarármelo, entonces vosotros me daréis treinta vestidos de lino y treinta mudas de ropa. Y ellos le dijeron: Propón tu enigma, para que lo escuchemos. 14 Y él les dijo:Del que come salió comida,y del fuerte salió dulzura.Y no pudieron declararle el enigma en tres días.

15 Y¹ al cuarto² día dijeron a la mujer de Sansón: Induce a tu marido^a a que nos declare el enigma, o te quemaremos a fuego a ti y a la casa de tu padre^b. Nos habéis invitado para empobrecernos. ¿No es así? 16 Y la mujer de Sansón lloró delante de él, y dijo:Solo me aborreces y no me quieres; has propuesto un enigma a los hijos de mi pueblo, y no me lo has declarado^a. Y él le dijo: He aquí que no lo he declarado ni a mi padre ni a mi madre; ¿y te lo he de declarar a ti? 17 Mas ella lloró delante de él los siete días que duró su banquete. Y sucedió el séptimo día que él se lo declaró porque ella le presionaba mucho. Entonces ella declaró el enigma a los hijos de su pueblo. 18 Y al séptimo día, antes de ponerse el sol, los hombres de la ciudad le dijeron:¿Qué es más dulce que la miel?¿Y qué es más fuerte que un león?Y él les dijo:Si no hubiereis arado con mi novilla,no habríais descubierto mi enigma. 19 Entonces el Espíritu del SEÑOR vino¹ sobre él^a con gran poder, y descendió a Ascalón y mató a treinta de ellos y tomando sus despojos, dio las mudas de ropa a los que habían declarado el enigma. Y ardiendo en ira, subió a la casa de su padre. 20 Pero la mujer de Sansón fue dada al compañero que había sido su amigo íntimo^a.

Then Samson went down to Timnah, and he saw a woman in Timnah, one of the daughters of the Philistines. 2 So he came ¹back and told his father and ²mother, “I saw a woman in Timnah, one of the daughters of the Philistines; so now, get her for me as a wife.” 3 But his father and his mother said to him, “Is there no woman among the daughters of your ^arelatives, or among all ¹our people, that you go to ^btake a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?” Yet Samson said to his father, “Get her for me, because she is right ²for me.” 4 However, his father and mother did not know that ^athis was of the LORD, for He was seeking an occasion against the Philistines. And at that time the Philistines were ruling over Israel.

5 Then Samson went down to Timnah with his father and mother, and came as far as the vineyards of Timnah; and behold, a young lion came roaring toward him. 6 And ^athe Spirit of the LORD rushed upon him, so that ^bhe tore it apart as one tears apart a young goat, though he had nothing in his hand; but he did not tell his father or mother what he had done. 7 So he went down and talked to the woman; and she ¹looked pleasing to Samson. 8 When he returned later to take her, he turned aside to look at the carcass of the lion; and behold, a swarm of bees and honey were in the body of the lion. 9 So he took out ¹the honey on his ²hands and went on, eating as he went. When he came to his father and mother, he gave some to them and they ate it; but he did not tell them that he had taken the honey out of the body of the lion.

10 Then his father went down to the woman; and Samson held a feast there, for the young men customarily did this. 11 When they saw him, they brought thirty companions to be with him.

12 Then Samson said to them, “Let me now ^apropose a riddle for you; if you actually tell me ¹the answer within the seven days of the feast, and solve it, then I will give you thirty linen wraps and thirty ^boutfits of clothes. 13 But if you are unable to tell me, then you shall give me thirty linen wraps and thirty outfits of clothes.” And they said to him, “Propose your riddle, so that we may hear it.” 14 So he said to them,“Out of the eater came something to eat,And out of the strong came something sweet.”But they could not tell the answer to the riddle in three days.

15 Then it came about on the ¹fourth day that they said to Samson’s wife, “^aEntice your husband, so that he will tell us the riddle, ^bor we will burn you and your father’s house with fire. Have you invited us to impoverish us? Is this not so?” 16 So Samson’s wife wept in front of him and said, “^aYou only hate me, and you do not love me; you have proposed a riddle to the sons of my people, and have not told it to me.” And he said to her, “Behold, I have not told it to my father or mother; so should I tell you?” 17 However she wept before him for seven days while their feast lasted. And on the seventh day he told her because she pressed him so hard. She then told the riddle to the sons of her people. 18 So the men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down,“What is sweeter than honey?And what is stronger than a lion?”And he said to them,“If you had not plowed with my heifer,You would not have found out my riddle.” 19 Then ^athe Spirit of the LORD rushed upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon and killed thirty men of them and took what they were wearing and gave the outfits of clothes to those who told the riddle. And his anger burned, and he went up to his father’s house. 20 But Samson’s wife was ^agiven to his companion who had been his ¹friend.

When he came to his father and mother, he gave some to them and they ate it; but he did not tell them that he had scraped the honey out of the body of the lion.

10 Then his father went down to the woman; and Samson made a feast there, for the young men customarily did this. 11 When they saw him, they brought thirty companions to be with him.

12 Then Samson said to them, “Let me now ^apropound a riddle to you; if you will indeed tell it to me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty linen wraps and thirty ^bchanges of clothes. 13 But if you are unable to tell me, then you shall give me thirty linen wraps and thirty changes of clothes.” And they said to him, “Propound your riddle, that we may hear it.” 14 So he said to them,“Out of the eater came something to eat,And out of the strong came something sweet.”But they could not tell the riddle in three days.
