Los hombres de Efraín se reunieron y cruzaron el Jordán hacia el norte¹, y dijeron a Jefté: ¿Por qué cruzaste a pelear contra los hijos de Amón sin llamarnos para que fuéramos contigo^a? Quemaremos tu casa sobre ti. 2 Y Jefté les respondió: Yo y mi pueblo estábamos en gran contienda con los hijos de Amón, y cuando os llamé, no me librasteis de sus manos. 3 Viendo, pues, que no me ibais a librar, arriesgué mi vida^1a y crucé contra los hijos de Amón, y el SEÑOR los entregó en mi mano. ¿Por qué, pues, habéis subido hoy a pelear contra mí? 4 Entonces Jefté reunió a todos los hombres de Galaad y peleó contra Efraín; y los hombres de Galaad derrotaron¹ a Efraín, porqueestos decían: Sois fugitivos de Efraín, vosotros los galaaditas, en medio de Efraín y en medio de Manasés. 5 Y se apoderaron los galaaditas de los vados del Jordán^a al lado opuesto de Efraín. Y aconteció que cuando alguno de los fugitivos de Efraín decía: Dejadme cruzar, los hombres de Galaad le decían: ¿Eres efrateo? Si él respondía: No, 6 entonces, le decían: Di, pues, la palabra Shibolet; pero él decía Sibolet, porque no podía pronunciarla correctamente¹. Entonces le echaban mano y lo mataban junto a los vados del Jordán. Y cayeron en aquella ocasión cuarenta y dos mil de los de Efraín. 7 Jefté juzgó a Israel seis años. Y murió Jefté galaadita, y fue sepultado en una de las ciudades de Galaad.

8 Después de Jefté¹ juzgó a Israel Ibzán de Belén. 9 Y tuvo treinta hijos y treinta hijas, aestas las casó¹ fuera de la familia, y trajo de afuera treinta hijas para sus hijos. Y juzgó a Israel siete años. 10 Y murió Ibzán, y fue sepultado en Belén.

11 Después de él juzgó a Israel Elón zabulonita; y juzgó a Israel diez años. 12 Y murió Elón zabulonita, y fue sepultado en Ajalón, en la tierra de Zabulón.

13 Entonces Abdón, hijo de Hilel piratonita, juzgó a Israel después de Elón¹. 14 Y tuvo cuarenta hijos y treinta nietos que cabalgaban en setenta asnos. Y juzgó a Israel ocho años. 15 Y murió Abdón, hijo de Hilel piratonita, y fue sepultado en Piratón, en la tierra de Efraín, en la región montañosa de los amalecitas.

Now the men of Ephraim were summoned, and they crossed ¹to Zaphon; and ^athey said to Jephthah, “Why did you cross over to fight against the sons of Ammon without calling us to go with you? We will burn your house down on you!” 2 So Jephthah said to them, “I and my people were in a major dispute with the sons of Ammon; and I did call you, but you did not save me from their hand. 3 When I saw that you were no deliverer, I ^1atook my life in my hands and crossed over against the sons of Ammon, and the LORD handed them over to me. Why then have you come up to me this day to fight against me?” 4 Then Jephthah gathered all the men of Gilead and fought Ephraim; and the men of Gilead ¹defeated Ephraim, because they said, “You are survivors of Ephraim, you Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim and in the midst of Manasseh.” 5 And the Gileadites ^atook control of the crossing places of the Jordan opposite Ephraim. And it happened whenever any of the survivors of Ephraim said, “Let me cross over,” that the men of Gilead would say to him, “Are you an Ephraimite?” If he said, “No,” 6 then they would say to him, “Just say, ‘Shibboleth.’” But he said, “Sibboleth,” for he was not ¹prepared to ²pronounce it correctly. Then they seized him and slaughtered him at the crossing places of the Jordan. So at that time forty-two thousand from Ephraim fell.

7 Jephthah judged Israel for six years. Then Jephthah the Gileadite died and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.

8 Now Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel after him. 9 He had thirty sons, and thirty daughters whom he ¹gave in marriage outside the family, and he brought in thirty daughters from outside for his sons. And he judged Israel for seven years. 10 Then Ibzan died and was buried in Bethlehem.

11 Now Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel after him; he judged Israel for ten years. 12 Then Elon the Zebulunite died and was buried at Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.

13 Now Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel after him. 14 He had forty sons and thirty grandsons who rode on seventy donkeys; and he judged Israel for eight years. 15 Then Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died and was buried at Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.
