Dios convence a Job de su ignorancia

Entonces el SEÑOR respondió a Job desde el torbellino y dijo^a:

2 ¿Quién eseste que oscurece el consejocon palabras sin conocimiento^a?3 Ciñe ahora tus lomos como un hombre^a,y yo te preguntaré, y tú me instruirás^b.4 ¿Dónde estabas tú cuando yo echaba los cimientos de la tierra^a?Dímelo, si tienes¹ inteligencia.5 ¿Quién puso sus medidas^a?, ya que sabes,¿o quién extendió sobre ella cordel?6 ¿Sobre qué se asientan sus basas^a,o quién puso su piedra angular7 cuando cantaban juntas las estrellas del alba,y todos los hijos de Dios^a gritaban de gozo?

8 ¿O quién encerró con puertas el mar^a,cuando, irrumpiendo, se salió de su seno;9 cuando hice de una nube su vestidura,y de espesa oscuridad sus pañales;10 cuando sobre él establecí límites¹,puse puertas^a y cerrojos,11 y dije: «Hasta aquí llegarás, pero no más allá;aquí se detendrá el orgullo de tus olas»?

12 ¿Alguna vez en tu vida¹ has mandado a la mañana,y hecho conocer al alba su lugar,13 para que ella eche mano a los confines de la tierra^a,y de ella sean sacudidos los impíos^b?14 Ella cambia como barro bajo el sello;y como con vestidura se presenta¹.15 Mas se quita la luz a los impíos^a,y se quiebra el brazo levantado^b.

16 ¿Has entrado hasta las fuentes del mar,o andado en las profundidades¹ del abismo^a?17 ¿Te han sido reveladas las puertas de la muerte,o has visto las puertas de la densa oscuridad^a?18 ¿Has comprendido la extensión¹ de la tierra^a?Dímelo, si tú sabes todo esto.

19 ¿Dónde está el camino a la morada de la luz?Y la oscuridad, ¿dónde está su lugar,20 para que la lleves a su territorio^a,y para que disciernas los senderos de su casa?21 ¡Tú lo sabes, porque entonces ya habías nacido^a,y grande es el número de tus días!22 ¿Has entrado en los depósitos de la nieve^a,o has visto los depósitos del granizo^b,23 que he reservado para el tiempo de angustia,para el día de guerra y de batalla?24 ¿Dónde está el camino en que se divide la luz^a,o el viento solano esparcido sobre la tierra?

25 ¿Quién ha abierto un canal para el turbión,o un camino para el rayo,26 para traer lluvia^a sobre tierra despoblada¹,sobre un desierto sin hombre alguno,27 para saciar la tierra desierta y desolada,y hacer brotar las semillas¹^a de la hierba?28 ¿Tiene padre la lluvia^a?¿Quién ha engendrado las gotas de rocío?29 ¿Del vientre de quién ha salido el hielo^a?Y la escarcha del cielo, ¿quién la ha dado a luz?30 El agua se endurece¹ como la piedra,y aprisionada está la superficie del abismo.

31 ¿Puedes tú atar las cadenas de las Pléyades,o desatar las cuerdas de Orión^a?32 ¿Haces aparecer una constelación¹ a su tiempo,y conduces la Osa con sus hijos?33 ¿Conoces tú las ordenanzas de los cielos,o fijas su dominio en la tierra^a?

34 ¿Puedes levantar tu voz a las nubes,para que abundancia de agua te cubra^a?35 ¿Envías los relámpagos para que vayany te digan: «Aquí estamos^a»?36 ¿Quién ha puesto sabiduría en lo más íntimo del ser^a,o ha dado a la mente¹ inteligencia^b?37 ¿Quién puede contar las nubes con sabiduría,o inclinar los odres de los cielos^a,38 cuando el polvo en masa se endurece,y los terrones se pegan entre sí?

39 ¿Puedes cazar la presa para la leona,o saciar el apetito de los leoncillos^a,40 cuando se agachan en sus madrigueras,o están al acecho en sus guaridas^a?41 ¿Quién prepara para el cuervo su alimento,cuando sus crías claman a Dios,y vagan sin comida^a?

God Speaks Now to Job

Then the LORD ^aanswered Job from the whirlwind and said,

2 “Who is this who ^adarkens the divine planBy words without knowledge?3 “Now ¹^atighten the belt on your waist like a man,And ^bI shall ask you, and you inform Me!4 “Where were you ^awhen I laid the foundation of the earth?Tell Me, if you ¹have understanding,5 Who set its ^ameasurements? Since you know.Or who stretched the measuring line over it?6 “On what ^awere its bases sunk?Or who laid its cornerstone,7 When the morning stars sang togetherAnd all the ^asons of God shouted for joy?

8 “Or who ^aenclosed the sea with doorsWhen it went out from the womb, bursting forth;9 When I made a cloud its garment,And thick darkness its swaddling bands,10 And I ¹^aplaced boundaries on itAnd set a bolt and doors,11 And I said, ‘As far as this point you shall come, but no farther;And here your proud waves shall stop’?

God’s Mighty Power

12 “Have you ¹ever in your life commanded the morning,And made the dawn know its place,13 So that it would take hold of ^athe ends of the earth,And ^bthe wicked would be shaken off from it?14 “It is changed like clay under the seal;And they stand out like a garment.15 “^aTheir light is withheld from the wicked,And the ^buplifted arm is broken.

16 “Have you entered ^athe springs of the sea,And walked ¹in the depth of the ocean?17 “Have the gates of death been revealed to you,And have you seen the gates of ^adeep darkness?18 “Have you understood the ¹expanse of ^athe earth?Tell Me, if you know all this.

19 “Where is the way to the dwelling of light?And darkness, where is its place,20 That you would take it to ^aits territory,And discern the paths to its ¹home?21 “You know, for ^ayou were born then,And the number of your days is great!22 “Have you entered the storehouses ^aof the snow,And have you seen the storehouses of the ^bhail,23 Which I have reserved for a time of distress,For a day of war and battle?24 “Where is the way that ^athe light is divided,And the east wind scattered on the earth?

25 “Who has split open a channel for the flood,And a way for the thunderbolt,26 To bring ^arain on a land without ¹people,On a desert without a person in it,27 To ^asatisfy the waste and desolate land,And to make the ¹seeds of grass to sprout?28 “Does ^athe rain have a father?Or who has fathered the drops of dew?29 “From whose womb has come the ^aice?And the frost of heaven, who has given it birth?30 “Water ¹becomes hard like stone,And the surface of the deep is imprisoned.

31 “Can you tie up the chains of the ^aPleiades,Or untie the cords of Orion?32 “Can you bring out a ¹constellation in its season,And guide the Bear with her ²satellites?33 “Do you know the ^aordinances of the heavens,Or do you establish their rule over the earth?

34 “Can you raise your voice to the clouds,So that an ^aabundance of water will cover you?35 “Can you ^asend flashes of lightning, so that they may goAnd say to you, ‘Here we are’?36 “Who has ^aput wisdom in the innermost being,Or given ^bunderstanding to the ¹mind?37 “Who can count the clouds by wisdom,And ^apour out the water jars of the heavens,38 When the dust hardens into a massAnd the clods stick together?

39 “Can you hunt the ^aprey for the lioness,Or satisfy the appetite of young lions,40 When they ^acrouch in their hiding places,And lie in wait in their lair?41 “Who prepares ¹feed for ^athe ravenWhen its young cry to God,And wander about without food?

God Speaks Now to Job

34 “Can you lift up your voice to the clouds,So that an ^aabundance of water will cover you?35 “Can you ^asend forth lightnings that they may goAnd say to you, ‘Here we are’?36 “Who has ^aput wisdom in the innermost beingOr given ^bunderstanding to the ¹mind?37 “Who can count the clouds by wisdom,Or ^atip the water jars of the heavens,38 When the dust hardens into a massAnd the clods stick together?
