Job habla sobre la brevedad de la vida

El hombre, nacido de mujer,corto de días y lleno de turbaciones^a,2 como una flor brota y se marchita^a,y como una sombra huye y no permanece^b.3 Sobre él ciertamente abres tus ojos^a,y lo¹ traes a juicio contigo^b.4 ¿Quién hará algo limpio de lo inmundo^a?¡Nadie!5 Ya que sus días están determinados,el número de sus meses^a te es conocido¹,y has fijado² sus límites para que no pueda pasarlos.6 Aparta de él tu mirada para que descanse¹^a,hasta que cumpla² su día como jornalero.

7 Porque hay esperanza para un árbolcuando es cortado, que volverá a retoñar,y sus renuevos no le faltarán¹.8 Aunque envejezcan sus raíces en la tierra,y muera su tronco en el polvo,9 al olor del agua reverdeceráy como una planta joven echará renuevos.10 ^aPero el hombre muere y yace inerte.El hombre^b expira, ¿y dónde está?11 Como las aguas se evaporan¹ del mar,como un río se agota y se seca^a,12 así el hombre yace y no se levanta;hasta que los cielos ya no existanno se despertará¹ ni se levantará² de su sueño^a.

13 ¡Oh, si me escondieras en el Seol¹,si me ocultaras hasta que tu ira se pasara²^a,si me pusieras un plazo y de mí te acordaras!14 Si el hombre muere, ¿volverá a vivir?Todos los días de mi batallar esperaréhasta que llegue mi relevo.15 Tú llamarás, y yo te responderé;anhelarás la obra de tus manos^a.16 Porque ahora cuentas mis pasos^a,no observas mi pecado^b.17 Sellada está en un saco mi transgresión^a,y tienes cubierta¹ mi iniquidad.

18 Pero el monte que cae se desmorona¹,y se cambia la roca de su lugar;19 el agua desgasta las piedras,sus torrentes se llevan el polvo de la tierra;así destruyes tú la esperanza del hombre^a.20 Prevaleces para siempre contra él, y se va^a;cambias su apariencia, y lo despides.21 Alcanzan honra sus hijos, pero él no lo sabe;o son humillados, pero él no lo percibe^a.22 Mas su cuerpo¹ le da dolores,y se lamentasolo por sí mismo.

Job Speaks of the Finality of Death

“^aMan, who is born of woman,Is ¹short-lived and ^bfull of turmoil.2 “^aLike a flower he comes out and withers.He also flees like ^ba shadow and does not remain.3 “You also ^aopen Your eyes on himAnd ^bbring ¹him into judgment with Yourself.4 “^aWho can make the clean out of the unclean?No one!5 “Since his days are determined,The ^anumber of his months is with You;And You have ¹set his limits so that he cannot pass.6 “^aLook away from him so that he may ¹rest,Until he ²fulfills his day like a hired worker.

7 “For there is hope for a tree,When it is cut down, that it will sprout again,And its shoots will not ¹fail.8 “Though its roots grow old in the ground,And its stump dies in the dry soil,9 At the scent of water it will flourishAnd produce sprigs like a plant.10 “But ^aa man dies and lies prostrate.A person ^bpasses away, and where is he?11 “As ^awater ¹evaporates from the sea,And a river becomes parched and dried up,12 So ^aa man lies down and does not rise.Until the heavens no longer exist,¹He will not awake nor be woken from ²his sleep.

13 “Oh that You would hide me in ¹Sheol,That You would conceal me ^auntil Your wrath returns to You,That You would set a limit for me and remember me!14 “If a man dies, will he live again?All the days of my struggle I will waitUntil my relief comes.15 “You will call, and I will answer You;You will long for ^athe work of Your hands.16 “For now You ^anumber my steps,You do not ^bobserve my sin.17 “My wrongdoing is ^asealed up in a bag,And You cover over my ¹guilt.

18 “But the falling mountain ¹crumbles away,And the rock moves from its place;19 Water wears away stones,Its torrents wash away the dust of the earth;So You ^adestroy a man’s hope.20 “You forever overpower him and he ^adeparts;You change his appearance and send him away.21 “His sons achieve honor, but ^ahe does not know it;Or they become insignificant, and he does not perceive it.22 “However, his ¹body pains him,And his soul mourns for himself.”
