Queja de Jeremías

Justo eres tú, oh SEÑOR, cuando a ti presento mi causa^a;en verdad asuntos de justicia voy a discutir contigo^b.¿Por qué prospera el camino de los impíos^cy viven en paz todos los que obran con perfidia^d?2 Tú los plantas, y¹ echan raíces;crecen, dan fruto^a.Cerca estás tú de sus labios²,pero lejos de su corazón³^b.3 Pero tú me conoces^a, oh SEÑOR,tú me ves,y compruebas la actitud de mi corazón para contigo^b.Arrástralos como ovejas para el mataderoy sepáralos¹ para el día de la matanza^c.4 ¿Hasta cuándo estará de luto la tierra^ay marchita la vegetación de todo el campo^b?Por la maldad de los que moran en ella^chan sido destruidos los animales y las aves^d,porque han dicho: Dios no verá nuestro fin^e.

Respuesta de Dios

5 Si corriste con los de a pie y te cansaron,¿cómo, pues, vas a competir con los caballos?Si caes en tierra de paz,¿cómo te irá¹ en la espesura² del Jordán^a?6 Porque también tus hermanos y la casa de tu padre,también ellos te han traicionado^a,también ellos han dado gritos en pos de ti;no les creas aunque te digan cosas agradables^b.

7 He dejado mi casa^a,he abandonado mi heredad,he entregado a la amada^b de mi almaen manos¹ de sus enemigos.8 Mi heredad vino a ser para mícomo león en la selva;rugió¹ contra mí^a;por tanto, la aborrecí^b.9 ¿Es acaso mi heredad para mí como ave de rapiña de varios colores?¿Están las aves de rapiña por todos lados contra ella^a?Id, reunid a todas las bestias del campo,traedlas para que la devoren^b.10 Muchos pastores han arruinado^a mi viña^b,han hollado^c mi heredad¹;han hecho de mi hermosa heredad²^dun desierto desolado.11 Fue hecha una desolación,llora sobre mí desolada^a;todo el país ha sido desolado^b,porque no hubo nadie a quien le importara^c.12 Sobre todas las alturas desoladas^a del desiertohan venido destructores,porque la espada del SEÑOR^b devorade un extremo de la tierra al otro¹;no hay paz^c para nadie².13 Han sembrado trigo y han segado espinos^a,se han esforzado sin provecho alguno^b.Avergonzaos, pues, de vuestras cosechas^ca causa de la ardiente ira del SEÑOR^d.

14 Así dice el SEÑOR en cuanto a todos mis malvados vecinos^a que atacan la heredad que he dado en posesión a mi pueblo Israel^b: He aquí los arrancaré de su tierra, y a la casa de Judá la arrancaré de en medio de ellos^c. 15 Y sucederá que después que los haya arrancado, volveré y les tendré compasión, y los haré regresar^a cada uno a su heredad y cada cual a su tierra^b. 16 Y sucederá que si ellos de verdad aprenden los caminos de mi pueblo^a, jurando en mi nombre: «Vive el SEÑOR^b», así como ellos enseñaron a mi pueblo a jurar por Baal^c, serán restablecidos en medio de mi pueblo^d. 17 Pero si no escuchan, entonces arrancaré esa nación, la arrancaré y la destruiré^a—declara el SEÑOR.

Jeremiah’s Prayer

^aRighteous are You, LORD, when I plead my case with You;Nevertheless I would ^bdiscuss matters of justice with You:Why has the ^cway of the wicked prospered?Why are all those who ^ddeal in treachery at ease?2 You have ^aplanted them, they have also taken root;They grow, they have also produced fruit.You are ^bnear ¹to their lipsBut far from their ²mind.3 But You ^aknow me, LORD;You see meAnd ^bexamine my heart’s attitude toward You.Drag them off like sheep for the slaughter,And ¹set them apart for a ^cday of slaughter!4 How long is the ^aland to mourn,And the ^bvegetation of the ¹countryside to dry up?Due to the ^cwickedness of those who live in it,^dAnimals and birds have been snatched away,Because people have said, “He will not see our final ^eend.”

5 “If you have run with infantrymen and they have tired you out,How can you compete with horses?If you fall down in a land of peace,How will you do in the ^athicket by the Jordan?6 “For even your ^abrothers and the household of your father,Even they have dealt treacherously with you,Even they have called aloud after you.Do not believe them, though they say ^bnice things to you.”

God’s Answer

7 “I have ^aforsaken My house,I have abandoned My inheritance;I have handed the ^bbeloved of My soulOver to her enemies.8 “My inheritance has become to MeLike a lion in the forest;She has ¹^aroared against Me;Therefore I have come to ^bhate her.9 “Is My inheritance like a speckled bird of prey to Me?Are the ^abirds of prey against her on every side?Go, gather all the ^banimals of the field,Bring them to devour!10 “Many ^ashepherds have ruined My ^bvineyard,They have ^ctrampled down My field;They have made My ^dpleasant fieldA desolate wilderness.11 “¹It has been made a desolation;Desolate, it ^amourns ²before Me;The ^bwhole land has been made desolate,Because no one ^ctakes it to heart.12 “On all the ¹^abare heights in the wildernessDestroyers have come,For the ^bsword of the LORD is devouringFrom one end of the land even to the ²other;There is ^cno peace for ³anyone.13 “They have ^asown wheat but have harvested thorns,They have ^bstrained themselves ¹to no profit.So be ashamed of your ^cproduceBecause of the ^dfierce anger of the LORD.”

14 This is what the LORD says concerning all My ^awicked neighbors who ^bdo harm to the inheritance with which I have endowed My people Israel: “Behold, I am going to drive them out of their land, and I will ^cdrive the house of Judah out from among them. 15 And it will come about that after I have driven them out, I will ^aagain have compassion on them; and I will ^bbring them back, each one to his inheritance and each one to his land. 16 Then, if they will really ^alearn the ways of My people, to ^bswear by My name, ‘As the LORD lives,’ just as they taught My people to ^cswear by Baal, they will be ^dbuilt up in the midst of My people. 17 But if they do not listen, then I will ^adrive out that nation, drive it out and destroy it,” declares the LORD.

God’s Answer

14 Thus says the LORD concerning all My ^awicked neighbors who ^bstrike at the inheritance with which I have endowed My people Israel, “Behold I am about to uproot them from their land and will ^cuproot the house of Judah from among them. 15 And it will come about that after I have uprooted them, I will ^aagain have compassion on them; and I will ^bbring them back, each one to his inheritance and each one to his land. 16 Then if they will really ^alearn the ways of My people, to ^bswear by My name, ‘As the LORD lives,’ even as they taught My people to ^cswear by Baal, they will be ^dbuilt up in the midst of My people. 17 But if they will not listen, then I will ^auproot that nation, uproot and destroy it,” declares the LORD.
