Los dioses falsos y el Dios verdadero

Oíd la palabra que el SEÑOR os habla, oh casa de Israel. 2 Así dice el SEÑOR:El camino de las naciones^a no aprendáis,ni de las señales de los cielos os aterroricéis,aunque las naciones les tengan terror.

3 Porque las costumbres de los pueblos son vanidad^a;pues un leño del bosque es cortado,lo trabajan las manos de un artífice con la azuela^b;4 con plata y oro lo adornan^a,con clavos y martillos lo aseguranpara que no se mueva^b.5 Como los espantapájaros de un pepinar,sus ídolos¹ no hablan^a;tienen que ser transportados,porque no andan^b.No les tengáis miedo,porque no pueden hacer ningún mal,ni tampoco hacer bien alguno^c.

6 No hay nadie como tú, oh SEÑOR^a;grande eres tú, y grande es tu nombre en poderío^b.7 ¿Quién no te temerá, oh Rey de las naciones^a?Porque esto se te debe.Porque entre todos los sabios de las naciones,y en todos sus reinos^b,no hay nadie como tú^c.8 Mas ellos a una son torpes y necios^aen su enseñanza de vanidades¹, pues su ídolo es un leño.9 Plata^a laminada es traída de Tarsis^by oro de Ufaz^c,obra de un artífice y de manos de un orfebre;su vestido es de violeta y púrpura;todo ello obra de peritos^d.10 Pero el SEÑOR es el Dios verdadero^a;Él es el Dios vivo^b y el Rey eterno^c.Ante su enojo tiembla la tierra^d,y las naciones son impotentes ante su indignación^e.

11 ¹Así les diréis: Los dioses que no hicieron los cielos^a ni la tierra, perecerán de la tierra^b y de debajo de los² cielos.

12 Él es el que hizo la tierra^a con su poder,el que estableció el mundo^b con su sabiduría,y con su inteligencia extendió los cielos^c.13 Cuando Él emite su voz, hay estruendo de aguas^a en los cielos;Él hace subir las nubes^b desde los extremos de la tierra,hace los relámpagos para la lluviay saca el viento de sus depósitos^c.14 Todo hombre es torpe, falto de conocimiento;todo orfebre se avergüenza de su ídolo¹;porque engañosas son sus imágenes fundidas,y no hay aliento en ellas^a.15 Vanidad son^a, obra ridícula,en el tiempo de su castigo perecerán^b.16 No es comoesta la porción de Jacob^a;porque Él es el Hacedor¹ de todo^b,e Israel es la tribu de su heredad^c;el SEÑOR de los ejércitos es su nombre^d.

17 Recoge del suelo tus pertenencias,tú que moras sitiada^a.

18 Porque así dice el SEÑOR:He aquí, en esta ocasión, tiro con honda^a a los habitantes de la tierra,y los afligirépara que me puedan hallar.

19 ¡Ay de mí^a, por mi quebranto!Mi herida^b es incurable.Mas yo me dije: De cierto esta es una enfermedad,y debo soportarla^c.20 Mi tienda está destruida^a,y todas mis cuerdas rotas;mis hijos me han abandonado y no queda ninguno^b.No hay quien^c plante de nuevo mi tiendani coloque mis cortinas.21 Porque los pastores se han entorpecidoy no han buscado al SEÑOR^a;por tanto, no prosperaron,y todo su rebaño se ha dispersado^b.22 ¡Se oye un rumor^a! He aquí, vieneuna gran conmoción desde la tierra del norte^b,para convertir las ciudades de Judáen desolación, en guarida de chacales^c.

23 Yo sé, oh SEÑOR, que no depende del hombre su camino^a,ni de quien anda el dirigir sus pasos^b.24 Repréndeme, oh SEÑOR, pero con justicia,no con tu ira^a, no sea que me reduzcas a nada.25 Derrama furor sobre las naciones que no te conocen^a,y sobre los linajes que no invocan tu nombre^b;porque han devorado a Jacob,lo han devorado y lo han consumido,y han asolado su morada¹^c.

A Satire on Idolatry

Hear the word which the LORD speaks to you, house of Israel. 2 This is what the LORD says:“^aDo not learn the way of the nations,And do not be terrified by the signs of the heavens,Although the nations are terrified by them;

3 For the customs of the peoples are ^afutile;For ^bit is wood cut from the forest,The work of the hands of a craftsman with a cutting tool.4 “They ^adecorate the idol with silver and gold;They ^bfasten it with nails and hammersSo that it will not totter.5 “They are like a scarecrow in a cucumber field,And they ^acannot speak;They must be ^bcarried,Because they cannot walk!Do not fear them,For they ^ccan do no harm,Nor can they do any good.”

6 ^aThere is none like You, LORD;You are ^bgreat, and Your name is great in might.7 ^aWho would not fear You, O ^bKing of the nations?For it is Your due!For among all the ^cwise men of the nationsAnd in all their kingdoms,There is none like You.8 But they are altogether ^astupid and foolish;The instruction from idols is nothing but wood!9 Beaten ^asilver is brought from ^bTarshish,And ^cgold from Uphaz,The work of a craftsman and of the hands of a goldsmith;Their clothing is of violet and purple;They are all the ^dwork of skilled people.10 But the LORD is the ^atrue God;He is the ^bliving God and the ^ceverlasting King.The ^dearth quakes at His wrath,And the nations cannot ^eendure His indignation.

11 ¹This is what you shall say to them: “The ^agods that did not make the heavens and the earth will ^bperish from the earth and from under these heavens.”

12 It is ^aHe who made the earth by His power,Who ^bestablished the world by His wisdom;And by His understanding He has ^cstretched out the heavens.13 When He utters His ^avoice, there is a roar of waters in the heavens,And He makes the ^bclouds ascend from the end of the earth;He makes lightning for the rain,And brings out the ^cwind from His storehouses.14 Every person is ^astupid, devoid of knowledge;Every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols,For his cast metal images are deceitful,And there is no breath in them.15 They are ^aworthless, a work of mockery;At the ^btime of their punishment they will perish.16 The ^aPortion of Jacob is not like these;For He is the ¹^bMaker of everything,And ^cIsrael is the tribe of His inheritance;The ^dLORD of armies is His name.

17 ^aPick up your bundle from the ground,You who live under siege!18 For this is what the LORD says:“Behold, I am ^aslinging out the inhabitants of the landAt this time,And I will cause them distress,So that they may ¹be found.”

19 ^aWoe to me, because of my ¹injury!My ^bwound is incurable.But I said, “This certainly is a sickness,And I ^cmust endure it.”20 My ^atent is destroyed,And all my ropes are broken.My ^bsons have gone from me and are no more.There is ^cno one to stretch out my tent againOr to set up my curtains.21 For the shepherds have become stupidAnd ^ahave not sought the LORD.Therefore they have not prospered,And ^ball their flock is scattered.22 The sound of a ^areport! Behold, it is coming—A great roar ^bfrom the land of the north—To ^cmake the cities of JudahA desolation, a haunt of jackals.

23 I know, LORD, that ^aa person’s way is not in himself,^bNor is it in a person who walks to direct his steps.24 ^aCorrect me, LORD, but with justice;Not with Your anger, or You will ¹bring me to nothing.25 ^aPour out Your wrath on the nations that ^bdo not know You,And on the families who ^cdo not call upon Your name;For they have devoured Jacob;They have ^ddevoured him and consumed him,And have laid waste his ¹settlement.
