En la iglesia^a que estaba en Antioquía^b había profetas^c y maestros^d: Bernabé^e, Simón llamado Niger, Lucio de Cirene^f, Manaén, que se había criado con Herodes^g el tetrarca, y Saulo. 2 Mientras ministraban al Señor y ayunaban, el Espíritu Santo^a dijo: Apartadme a Bernabé^b y a Saulo para la obra a la que los he llamado^c. 3 Entonces, después de ayunar, orar^a y haber impuesto las manos sobre ellos^b, los enviaron^c.

4 Ellos, pues, enviados por el Espíritu Santo^a, descendieron a Seleucia y de allí se embarcaron para Chipre^b. 5 Llegados a Salamina, proclamaban la palabra de Dios en las sinagogas^a de los judíos; y tenían también a Juan^b de ayudante. 6 Después de haber recorrido toda la isla hasta Pafos, encontraron a cierto mago^a, un falso profeta^b judío llamado Barjesús, 7 que estaba con el procónsul^a Sergio Paulo, hombre inteligente. Este hizo venir a Bernabé y a Saulo, y deseaba oír la palabra de Dios. 8 Pero Elimas, el mago^a (pues así se traduce su nombre), se les oponía, tratando de desviar de la fe^b al procónsul^c. 9 Entonces Saulo, llamado también Pablo, lleno del Espíritu Santo^a, fijando la mirada en él, 10 dijo: Tú, hijo del diablo^a, que estás lleno de todo engaño y fraude, enemigo de toda justicia, ¿no cesarás de torcer los caminos rectos del Señor^b? 11 Ahora, he aquí, la mano del Señor está sobre ti^a; te quedarás ciego y no verás el sol por algún tiempo. Al instante niebla y oscuridad cayeron sobre él, e iba buscando quien lo guiara de la mano. 12 Entonces el procónsul^a, cuando vio lo que había sucedido, creyó, maravillado de la doctrina del Señor^b.

13 Pablo y sus compañeros zarparon de Pafos^a, y llegaron a Perge^b de Panfilia^c; pero Juan^d, apartándose de ellos, regresó a Jerusalén, 14 mas ellos, saliendo de Perge, llegaron a Antioquía^a de Pisidia^b; y en el día de reposo^c entraron a la sinagoga^d y se sentaron. 15 Después de la lectura de la ley^a y los profetas^b, los oficiales de la sinagoga^c les mandaron a decir: Hermanos¹, si tenéis alguna palabra de exhortación para el pueblo, hablad.

16 Pablo se levantó, y haciendo señal con la mano^a, dijo:

Hombres de Israel, y vosotros que teméis a Dios^b, escuchad: 17 El Dios de este pueblo de Israel, escogió a nuestros padres y engrandeció¹ al pueblo durante su estancia en la tierra de Egipto^a, y con brazo levantado los sacó de ella^b. 18 Y por un período como de cuarenta años^a los soportó¹ en el desierto^b. 19 Después de destruir siete naciones^a en la tierra de Canaán^b, repartió sus tierras en herencia^c; todo esto duró como cuatrocientos cincuenta años^d. 20 Y después de esto, les dio jueces^a hasta el profeta Samuel^b. 21 Entonces ellos pidieron un rey^a, y Dios les dio a Saúl, hijo de Cis, varón de la tribu de Benjamín^b, durante cuarenta años. 22 Después de quitarlo^a, les levantó por rey a David, del cual Dios también testificó y dijo: «HE HALLADO A DAVID, hijo de Isaí, UN HOMBRE CONFORME A MI CORAZÓN^b, que hará toda mi voluntad¹». 23 De la descendencia deeste^a, conforme a la promesa, Dios ha dado¹ a Israel un Salvador^b, Jesús^c, 24 después de que Juan predicó, antes de su venida¹, un bautismo de arrepentimiento^a a todo el pueblo de Israel. 25 Cuando Juan estaba a punto de terminar su carrera^a, decía: «¿Quién pensáis que soy yo? Yo no soy el Cristo; mas he aquí, viene tras mí uno de quien yo no soy digno de desatar las sandalias de sus pies^b». 26 Hermanos, hijos del linaje de Abraham, y los que entre vosotros teméis a Dios, a nosotros¹ nos es enviada la palabra de esta salvación^a. 27 Pues los que habitan en Jerusalén y sus gobernantes^a, sin reconocerle^b a Él ni las palabras¹ de los profetas^c que se leen todos los días de reposo^d, cumplieron estas escrituras, condenándole. 28 Y aunque no hallaron causa para darle muerte, pidieron a Pilato que le hiciera matar^1a. 29 Y cuando habían cumplido todo lo que estaba escrito acerca de Él^a, le bajaron de la cruz^1b y le pusieron en un sepulcro^c. 30 Pero Dios le levantó de entre los muertos^a; 31 y por muchos días se apareció a los que habían subido con Él de Galilea^a a Jerusalén, los cuales ahora son sus testigos^b ante el pueblo. 32 Y nosotros os anunciamos la buena nueva^1a de que la promesa hecha a los padres^b, 33 Dios la ha cumplido a nuestros hijos¹ al resucitar a Jesús^a, como también está escrito en el salmo segundo: HIJO MÍO ERES TÚ; YO TE HE ENGENDRADO HOY^b. 34 Y en cuanto a que le resucitó de entre los muertos^a para nunca más volver a corrupción, Dios ha hablado de esta manera: OS DARÉ LAS SANTAS y FIELES misericordias¹ prometidas A DAVID^b. 35 Por tanto dice también en otro salmo: NO PERMITIRÁS¹ QUE TU SANTO² VEA CORRUPCIÓN^a. 36 Porque David, después de haber servido el propósito de Dios^a en su propia generación¹, durmió^2b, y fue sepultado con sus padres^c, y vio corrupción. 37 Pero aquel a quien Dios resucitó^a no vio corrupción. 38 Por tanto, hermanos, sabed que por medio de Él¹ os es anunciado el perdón de los pecados^a; 39 y que de todas las cosas de que no pudisteis ser justificados¹ por la ley de Moisés², por medio de Él, todo aquel que cree es justificado^3a. 40 Tened, pues, cuidado de que no venga sobre vosotros aquello de que se habla en los profetas^a:

42 Al salir Pablo y Bernabé¹, la gente² les rogaba que el siguiente día de reposo^a les hablaran de estas cosas³. 43 Y terminada la reunión de la sinagoga, muchos de los judíos y de los prosélitos^1a temerosos de Dios^b siguieron a Pablo y a Bernabé, quienes, hablándoles, les instaban a perseverar en la gracia de Dios^c.

4 So, being ^asent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia and from there they sailed to ^bCyprus. 5 When they reached Salamis, they began to proclaim the word of God in ^athe synagogues of the Jews; and they also had ^bJohn as their helper. 6 When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they found a ^amagician, a Jewish ^bfalse prophet whose name was Bar-Jesus, 7 who was with the ^aproconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. 8 But Elymas the ^amagician (for so his name is translated) was opposing them, seeking to turn the ^bproconsul away from ^cthe faith. 9 But Saul, who was also known as Paul, ^1afilled with the Holy Spirit, stared at him, 10 and said, “¹You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you ^ason of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not stop making crooked ^bthe straight ways of the Lord? 11 Now, behold, ^athe hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and not see the sun for a time.” And immediately a mist and a darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking those who would lead him by the hand. 12 Then the ^aproconsul believed when he saw what had happened, being amazed at ^bthe teaching of the Lord.

13 Now Paul and his companions put out to sea from ^aPaphos and came to ^bPerga in ^cPamphylia; but ^dJohn left them and returned to Jerusalem. 14 But going on from Perga, they arrived at ^aPisidian ^bAntioch, and on ^cthe Sabbath day they went into ^dthe synagogue and sat down. 15 After ^athe reading of the Law and ^bthe Prophets, ^cthe synagogue officials sent word to them, saying, “¹Brothers, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say it.” 16 Paul stood up, and ^amotioning with his hand said,“Men of Israel, and ^byou who fear God, listen: 17 The God of this people Israel ^achose our fathers and ^1bmade the people great during their stay in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm ^cHe led them out from it. 18 For ^aa period of about forty years ^bHe put up with them in the wilderness. 19 ^aWhen He had destroyed ^bseven nations in the land of Canaan, He ^cdistributed their land as an inheritance—all of which took ^dabout 450 years. 20 After these things He ^agave them judges until ^bSamuel the prophet. 21 Then they ^aasked for a king, and God gave them ^bSaul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. 22 After He had ^aremoved him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, ‘^bI have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who will do all My ¹will.’ 23 ^aFrom the descendants of this man, ^baccording to promise, God has brought to Israel ^ca Savior, Jesus, 24 after ^aJohn had proclaimed, before ¹His coming, a ^bbaptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. 25 And while John ^awas completing his course, ^bhe kept saying, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not He. But behold, One is coming after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’

26 “¹Brothers, sons of Abraham’s family, and those among you who fear God, to us the message of ^athis salvation has been sent. 27 For those who live in Jerusalem, and their ^arulers, ^brecognizing neither Him nor the ¹declarations of ^cthe prophets which are ^dread every Sabbath, fulfilled these by condemning Him. 28 And though they found no grounds for putting Him to death, they ^aasked Pilate that He be executed. 29 When they had ^acarried out everything that was written concerning Him, ^bthey took Him down from the ^1ccross and ^dlaid Him in a tomb. 30 But God ^araised Him from the dead; 31 and for many days ^aHe appeared to those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, the very ones who are now ^bHis witnesses to the people. 32 And we ^apreach to you the good news of ^bthe promise made to the fathers, 33 that God has fulfilled this promise to those of us who are the descendants by ^araising Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm: ‘^bYOU ARE MY SON; TODAY I HAVE FATHERED YOU.’ 34 As for the fact that He ^araised Him from the dead, never again to return to decay, He has spoken in this way: ‘^bI WILL GIVE YOU THE HOLY AND FAITHFUL MERCIES OF DAVID.’ 35 Therefore, He also says in another Psalm: ‘^aYOU WILL NOT ¹ALLOW YOUR ²HOLY ONE TO ³UNDERGO DECAY.’ 36 For ^aDavid, after he had ¹served God’s ^bpurpose in his own generation, ^cfell asleep, and was ²buried among his fathers and ³underwent decay; 37 but He whom God ^araised did not ¹undergo decay. 38 Therefore let it be known to you, ¹brothers, that ^athrough ²Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, 39 and ¹through Him ^aeveryone who believes is ²freed from all things, from which you could not be ³freed ⁴through the Law of Moses. 40 Therefore, see that the thing spoken of ^ain the Prophets does not come upon you:

42 As ¹Paul and Barnabas were going out, the people repeatedly begged to have these ²things spoken to them the next ^aSabbath. 43 Now when the meeting of the synagogue had broken up, many of the Jews and the ^aGod-fearing ^1bproselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who were speaking to them and urging them to continue in ^cthe grace of God.

44 The next ^aSabbath nearly all the city assembled to hear the word of ¹the Lord. 45 But when ^athe Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began contradicting the things spoken by Paul, and were ¹blaspheming. 46 Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, “It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you ^afirst. Since you repudiate it and consider yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, ^bwe are turning to the Gentiles. 47 For so the Lord has commanded us,‘^aI HAVE APPOINTED YOU AS A ^bLIGHT ¹TO THE GENTILES,THAT YOU MAY ²BRING SALVATION TO THE END OF THE EARTH.’”

48 When the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying ^athe word of ¹the Lord; and all who ^bhad been appointed to eternal life believed. 49 And ^athe word of the Lord was being spread through the whole region. 50 But ^athe Jews incited the ^1bdevout women ^cof prominence and the leading men of the city, and instigated a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their ²region. 51 But ^athey shook off the dust from their feet in protest against them and went to ^bIconium. 52 And the disciples were continually ^afilled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

42 As ¹Paul and Barnabas were going out, the people kept begging that these ²things might be spoken to them the next ^aSabbath. 43 Now when the meeting of the synagogue had broken up, many of the Jews and of the ^aGod-fearing ^1bproselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, were urging them to continue in ^cthe grace of God.
