Josías tenía ocho años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó treinta y un años en Jerusalén^a. El nombre de su madre era Jedida, hija de Adaía, de Boscat^b. 2 E hizo lo recto ante los ojos del SEÑOR y anduvo en todo el camino de su padre David; no se apartó ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda^a.

3 ^aY¹ en el año dieciocho del rey Josías, el rey envió al escriba Safán, hijo de Azalía, de Mesulam, a la casa del SEÑOR, diciendo: 4 Ve¹ al sumo sacerdote Hilcías para que cuente² el dinero traído a la casa del SEÑOR, que los guardianes del umbral han recogido del pueblo^a, 5 y que lo pongan en mano de los obreros encargados de supervisar la casa del SEÑOR, y que ellos lo den a los obreros que están asignados en la casa del SEÑOR para reparar los daños¹ de la casa^a, 6 a los carpinteros, a los constructores y a los albañiles, y para comprar maderas y piedra de cantería para reparar la casa. 7 Pero no se les pedirá cuenta del dinero entregado en sus manos porque obran con fidelidad^a.

8 Entonces el sumo sacerdote Hilcías dijo al escriba Safán: He hallado el libro de la ley en la casa del SEÑOR. E Hilcías dio el libro a Safán^a, yeste lo leyó. 9 Y el escriba Safán vino al rey, y trajo palabra al rey, diciendo: Tus siervos han tomado¹ el dinero que se halló en la casa, y lo han puesto en mano de los obreros encargados de supervisar la casa del SEÑOR. 10 El escriba Safán informó también al rey, diciendo: El sacerdote Hilcías me ha dado un libro. Y Safán lo leyó en la presencia del rey. 11 Y sucedió que cuando el rey oyó las palabras del libro de la ley, rasgó sus vestidos^a. 12 Entonces el rey ordenó al sacerdote Hilcías, a Ahicam, hijo de Safán^a, a Acbor, hijo de Micaías¹, al escriba Safán y a Asaías, siervo del rey, diciendo^b: 13 Id, consultad al SEÑOR por mí, por el pueblo y por todo Judá acerca de las palabras de este libro que se ha encontrado, porque grande es la ira del SEÑOR que se ha encendido contra nosotros, por cuanto nuestros padres no han escuchado las palabras de este libro, haciendo conforme a todo lo que está escrito de nosotros^a.

14 Entonces el sacerdote Hilcías, y Ahicam, Acbor, Safán y Asaías fueron a la profetisa Hulda, mujer de Salum, hijo de Ticva^a, hijo de Harhas, encargado del vestuario; ella habitaba en Jerusalén en el segundo sector^b, y hablaron con ella. 15 Y ella les dijo: Así dice el SEÑOR, Dios de Israel: «Decid al hombre que os ha enviado a mí: 16 “Así dice el SEÑOR: ‘He aquí, voy a traer mal sobre este lugar y sobre sus habitantes, según todas las palabras del libro^a que ha leído el rey de Judá. 17 Por cuanto me han abandonado y han quemado incienso a otros dioses^a para provocarme a ira con toda la obra de sus manos, por tanto mi ira arde contra este lugar y no se apagará’”». 18 Pero al rey de Judá que os envió a consultar al SEÑOR, así le diréis: «Así dice el SEÑOR, Dios de Israel: “En cuanto a las palabras que has oído^a, 19 porque se enterneció tu corazón^a y te humillaste delante del SEÑOR cuando oíste lo que hablé contra este lugar y contra sus habitantes^b, que vendrían a ser desolación^c y maldición^d, y has rasgado tus vestidos^e y has llorado delante de mí, ciertamente te he oído”—declara el SEÑOR. 20 “Por tanto, he aquí, te reuniré con tus padres y serás recogido en tu sepultura en paz, y tus ojos no verán todo el mal que yo voy a traer sobre este lugar^a”». Y llevaron la respuesta al rey.

^aJosiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned for thirty-one years in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of ^bBozkath. 2 He did what was right in the sight of the LORD and walked ¹entirely in the way of his father David, and did not ^aturn aside to the right or to the left.

3 Now ^ain the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam the scribe, to the house of the LORD, saying, 4 “^aGo up to Hilkiah the high priest, and have him ¹count all the money brought into the house of the LORD, which the doorkeepers have collected from the people. 5 ^aAnd have them hand it over to the workmen who have the oversight of the house of the LORD, and have them give it to the workmen who are in the house of the LORD to repair the ¹damage to the house: 6 to the carpenters, the builders, the masons, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the house. 7 However, ^ano accounting shall be made with them for the money handed over to them, because they deal honestly.”

8 Then Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “^aI have found the Book of the Law in the house of the LORD.” And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, who read it. 9 Then Shaphan the scribe came to the king and brought back word to the king and said, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have handed it over to the workmen who have the oversight of the house of the LORD.” 10 Moreover, Shaphan the scribe informed the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it in the presence of the king.

11 When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, ^ahe tore his clothes. 12 Then the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, ^aAhikam the son of Shaphan, ^1bAchbor the son of Micaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying, 13 “Go, inquire of the LORD for me and for the people and all Judah concerning the words of this book that has been found, for ^athe wrath of the LORD that burns against us is great, because our fathers did not listen to the words of this book, to act in accordance with everything that is written regarding us.”

14 So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of ^1aTikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (and she lived in Jerusalem in the ^bSecond Quarter); and they spoke to her. 15 Then she said to them, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel says: ‘Tell the man who sent you to Me, 16 “This is what the LORD says: ‘Behold, I am going to ^abring disaster on this place and on its inhabitants, all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read. 17 ^aSince they have abandoned Me and have burned incense to other gods so that they may provoke Me to anger with all the work of their hands, My wrath burns against this place, and it shall not be quenched.’” 18 But to ^athe king of Judah who sent you to inquire of the LORD, this is what you shall say to him: “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel says: ‘Regarding the words which you have heard, 19 ^asince your heart was tender and ^byou humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they would become ^can object of horror and a ^dcurse, and you have ^etorn your clothes and wept before Me, I have indeed heard you,’ declares the LORD.” 20 Therefore, behold, I am going to gather you to your fathers, and ^ayou will be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes will not look at all the devastation that I am going to bring on this place.’” So they brought back word to the king.

14 So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of ^1aTikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the ^bSecond Quarter); and they spoke to her. 15 She said to them, “Thus says the LORD God of Israel, ‘Tell the man who sent you to me, 16 thus says the LORD, “Behold, I ^abring evil on this place and on its inhabitants, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read. 17 ^aBecause they have forsaken Me and have burned incense to other gods that they might provoke Me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore My wrath burns against this place, and it shall not be quenched.”’ 18 But to ^athe king of Judah who sent you to inquire of the LORD thus shall you say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD God of Israel, “Regarding the words which you have heard, 19 ^abecause your heart was tender and ^byou humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants that they should become ^ca desolation and a ^dcurse, and you have ^etorn your clothes and wept before Me, I truly have heard you,” declares the LORD. 20 “Therefore, behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and ^ayou will be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes will not see all the evil which I will bring on this place.”’” So they brought back word to the king.
