^aEntonces se congregó todo Israel en torno a David en Hebrón, y dijeron¹: He aquí, hueso tuyo y carne tuya somos. 2 Ya de antes, cuando Saúl aún era rey, eras tú el que sacabas y el que volvías a traer a Israel. Y el SEÑOR tu Dios te dijo: «Tú pastorearás a mi pueblo Israel, y serás príncipe sobre mi pueblo Israel^a». 3 Vinieron, pues, todos los ancianos de Israel al rey en Hebrón, y David hizo un pacto con ellos en Hebrón delante del SEÑOR; luego ungieron a David como rey sobre Israel^a, conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR por medio¹ de Samuel^b.

4 ^aEntonces fue David con todo Israel a Jerusalén, es decir, Jebús^b, y estaban allí los jebuseos, habitantes de la tierra. 5 Y los habitantes de Jebús dijeron a David: No entrarás aquí. Pero David capturó la fortaleza de Sión, es decir, la ciudad de David. 6 Y David había dicho: El que primero hiera a un jebuseo será jefe y comandante. Y Joab^a, hijo de Sarvia, subió primero, y fue hecho jefe. 7 David habitó en la fortaleza; por tanto fue llamada la ciudad de David. 8 Y edificó¹ la ciudad alrededor, desde el Milo² hasta la muralla circundante; y Joab reparó³ el resto de la ciudad. 9 David se engrandecía cada vez más^a, y el SEÑOR de los ejércitos estaba con él.

10 Estos son los jefes de los valientes que tenía David^a, quienes le dieron fuerte apoyo en su reino, junto con todo Israel, para hacerlo rey, conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR^b concerniente a Israel. 11 ^aYestos constituyen la lista de los valientes que tenía David: Jasobeam^b, hijo de Hacmoni, jefe de los treinta^c; él blandió su lanza contra trescientos a los cuales mató¹ de una sola vez. 12 Y después de él, Eleazar, hijo de Dodo^a ahohíta; él era uno de¹ los tres valientes. 13 ^aÉl estaba con David en Pasdamim¹ cuando los filisteos se reunieron allí para la batalla; y había una parcela llena de cebada, y el pueblo huyó delante de los filisteos, 14 y se apostaron en medio de la parcela, y la defendieron e hirieron a los filisteos; y el SEÑOR los salvó con una gran victoria¹.

15 Descendieron tres de los treinta jefes a la roca donde estaba David, en la cueva de Adulam, mientras el ejército¹ de los filisteos acampaba en el valle de Refaim^a. 16 David estaba entonces en la fortaleza, mientras la guarnición^a de los filisteos estaba en Belén. 17 David sintió un gran deseo, y dijo: ¡Quién me diera de beber agua del pozo de Belén que está junto a la puerta! 18 Entonces los tres se abrieron paso por el campamento de los filisteos, y sacando agua del pozo de Belén que estaba junto a la puerta, se la llevaron y la trajeron a David; pero David no quiso beberla, sino que la derramó para el SEÑOR, 19 y dijo: Lejos esté de mí que haga tal cosa delante de mi Dios. ¿Beberé la sangre de estos hombres que fueron con riesgo de sus vidas¹? Porque con riesgo de sus vidas² la trajeron. Por eso no quiso beberla. Estas cosas hicieron los tres valientes.

20 Y Abisai, hermano de Joab, era el primero de los treinta¹, y blandió su lanza contra trescientos y los mató²; y él tuvo tanto renombre como los tres. 21 De los treinta en el segundo grupo, él fue el más distinguido y llegó a ser capitán de ellos; pero no igualó a los tres primeros.

22 Benaía, hijo de Joiada^a, hijo de un valiente de Cabseel, de grandes hazañas, mató¹ a los dos hijos de Ariel² de Moab. Y él descendió y mató³ a un león en medio de un foso un día que estaba nevando. 23 También mató¹ a un egipcio, un hombre grande de cinco codos² de estatura; y en la mano del egipcio había una lanza como un rodillo de tejedor^a, pero Benaía descendió a él con un palo, y arrebatando la lanza de la mano del egipcio, lo mató con su propia lanza. 24 Estas cosas hizo Benaía, hijo de Joiada, y tuvo tanto renombre como los tres valientes. 25 He aquí, fue el más distinguido entre los treinta, pero no igualó a los tres; y David lo puso sobre su guardia.

^aThen all Israel gathered to David at Hebron ¹and said, “Behold, we are your bone and your flesh. 2 In times past, even when Saul was king, you were the one who led out and brought in Israel; and the LORD your God said to you, ‘^aYou shall shepherd My people Israel, and you shall be leader over My people Israel.’” 3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the LORD; and ^athey anointed David king over Israel, ^bin accordance with the word of the LORD through Samuel.

4 Then David and all Israel went to Jerusalem ^a(that is, Jebus); and the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, were there. 5 The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, “You shall not enter here.” Nevertheless David took the mountain stronghold of Zion (that is, the city of David). 6 Now David had said, “Whoever is first to ¹kill a Jebusite shall be chief and commander.” ^aJoab the son of Zeruiah went up first, so he became chief. 7 Then David lived in the stronghold; therefore it was called the city of David. 8 He ¹built the city all around, from the ²Millo to the surrounding area; and Joab ³repaired the rest of the city. 9 ^aAnd David became greater and greater, for the LORD of armies was with him.

10 ^aNow these are the heads of the mighty men whom David had, who remained faithful to him in his kingdom, together with all Israel, to make him king, ^bin accordance with the word of the LORD concerning Israel. 11 These constitute the list of David’s mighty men: ^aJashobeam, the son of a Hachmonite, ^bthe chief of the thirty; he wielded his spear against three hundred ¹whom he killed at one time.

12 After him was Eleazar the son of ^aDodo, the Ahohite, who was ¹one of the three mighty men. 13 He was with David at ¹Pas-dammim ^awhen the Philistines were gathered together there to battle, and there was a plot of land full of barley; and the people fled from the Philistines. 14 But they took their stand in the midst of the plot and defended it, and defeated the Philistines; and the LORD saved them with a great ¹victory.

15 Now three of the thirty chief men went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam, while ^athe army of the Philistines was camping in the Valley of Rephaim. 16 David was then in the stronghold, while ^athe garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem. 17 And David had a craving and said, “Oh that someone would give me water to drink from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!” 18 So the three broke through the camp of the Philistines and drew water from the well of Bethlehem which was by the gate, and took it and brought it to David; however, David would not drink it, but poured it out to the LORD; 19 and he said, “Far be it from me before my God that I would do this. Shall I drink the blood of these men who went ¹at the risk of their lives? For they brought it at the risk of their lives.” Therefore he would not drink it. The three mighty men did these things.

20 As for ¹Abshai the brother of Joab, he was chief of the ²thirty, and he wielded his spear against three hundred ³and killed them; and he had a name ⁴as well as the ⁵thirty. 21 Of the three in the second rank he was the most honored, and he became their commander; however, he did not attain the reputation of the first three.

22 ^aBenaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a warrior of Kabzeel, mighty in deeds, struck and killed the ¹two sons of Ariel of Moab. He also went down and struck and killed a lion inside a pit on a snowy day. 23 And he killed an Egyptian, a man of great stature ¹five cubits tall. Now in the Egyptian’s hand was ^aa spear like a weaver’s beam, but he went down to him with a club and snatched the spear from the Egyptian’s hand and killed him with his own spear. 24 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada did these things, and had a name ¹as well as the three mighty men. 25 Behold, he was honored among the thirty, but he did not attain the reputation of the first three; and David appointed him over his bodyguard.

26 Now the mighty men of the armies were Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem, 27 ¹Shammoth the Harorite, Helez the ²Pelonite, 28 Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, Abiezer the Anathothite, 29 ¹Sibbecai the Hushathite, ²Ilai the Ahohite, 30 Maharai the Netophathite, ¹Heled the son of Baanah the Netophathite, 31 Ithai the son of Ribai of Gibeah of the sons of Benjamin, Benaiah the Pirathonite, 32 ¹Hurai of the brooks of Gaash, ²Abiel the Arbathite, 33 Azmaveth the Baharumite, Eliahba the Shaalbonite, 34 the sons of ¹Hashem the Gizonite, Jonathan the son of Shagee the Hararite, 35 Ahiam the son of ¹Sacar the Hararite, ²Eliphal the son of Ur, 36 Hepher the Mecherathite, Ahijah the Pelonite, 37 Hezro the Carmelite, ¹Naarai the son of Ezbai, 38 Joel the brother of Nathan, Mibhar the son of Hagri, 39 Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Berothite, the armor bearer of Joab the son of Zeruiah, 40 Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the Ithrite, 41 Uriah the Hittite, Zabad the son of Ahlai, 42 Adina the son of Shiza the Reubenite, a chief of the Reubenites, and thirty with him, 43 Hanan the son of Maacah and Joshaphat the Mithnite, 44 Uzzia the Ashterathite, Shama and Jeiel the sons of Hotham the Aroerite, 45 Jediael the son of Shimri and his brother Joha the Tizite, 46 Eliel the Mahavite, and Jeribai and Joshaviah, the sons of Elnaam, Ithmah the Moabite, 47 Eliel, Obed, and Jaasiel the Mezobaite.
