Entonces las hijas de Zelofehad, hijo de Hefer, hijo de Galaad, hijo de Maquir, hijo de Manasés, de las familias de Manasés, hijo de José, se acercaron^a; y estos eran los nombres de sus hijas: Maala, Noa, Hogla, Milca y Tirsa^b. 2 Y se presentaron delante de Moisés, delante del sacerdote Eleazar, delante de los jefes y de toda la congregación, a la entrada de la tienda de reunión, diciendo: 3 Nuestro padre murió en el desierto^a, aunque no estuvo entre el grupo de los que se juntaron contra el SEÑOR, en el grupo de Coré, sino que murió por su pecado, y no tuvo hijos^b. 4 ¿Por qué ha de desaparecer¹ el nombre de nuestro padre de entre su familiasolo porque no tuvo hijo? Dadnos herencia² entre los hermanos de nuestro padre. 5 Y Moisés presentó su caso ante el SEÑOR^a.

6 Entonces el SEÑOR habló a Moisés, diciendo: 7 Las hijas de Zelofehad tienen razón en lo que dicen¹. Ciertamente les darás herencia² entre los hermanos de su padre, y pasarás a ellas la herencia de su padre^a. 8 Además, hablarás a los hijos de Israel, diciendo: «Si un hombre muere y no tiene hijo, pasaréis su herencia a su hija. 9 Y si no tiene hija, entonces daréis su herencia a sus hermanos. 10 Y si no tiene hermanos, entonces daréis su herencia a los hermanos de su padre. 11 Y si su padre no tiene hermanos, entonces daréis su herencia al pariente más cercano en su familia, y él la poseerá. Y será norma de derecho^a para los hijos de Israel, tal como el SEÑOR ordenó a Moisés».

12 ^aEntonces el SEÑOR dijo a Moisés: Sube a este monte Abarim^b, y mira la tierra que yo he dado a los hijos de Israel. 13 Y cuando la hayas visto, tú también te reunirás a tu pueblo^a, como se reunió tu hermano Aarón^b. 14 Porque cuando os rebelasteis contra mi mandamiento¹ en el desierto de Zin durante la contienda de la congregación, debisteis² santificarme en las aguas ante sus ojos^a. (Esas son las aguas de Meriba³, de Cades, en el desierto de Zin.)

15 Entonces Moisés habló al SEÑOR, diciendo: 16 Ponga el SEÑOR, Dios de los espíritus de toda carne^a, un hombre sobre la congregación, 17 que salga¹ y entre delante de ellos, y que los haga salir y entrar a fin de que la congregación del SEÑOR no sea como ovejas que no tienen pastor^a. 18 Y el SEÑOR dijo a Moisés: Toma a Josué, hijo de Nun, hombre en quien está el Espíritu^a, y pon tu mano sobre él^b; 19 y haz que se ponga delante del sacerdote Eleazar, y delante de toda la congregación, e impártele autoridad a la vista de ellos^a. 20 Y pondrás sobre él parte de tu dignidad a fin de que le obedezca toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel. 21 Él se presentará delante del sacerdote Eleazar, quien inquirirá por él por medio del juicio del Urim^a delante del SEÑOR. A su palabra¹ saldrán y a su palabra² entrarán, él y todos los hijos de Israel con él, es decir, toda la congregación. 22 Y Moisés hizo tal como el SEÑOR le ordenó: tomó a Josué y lo puso delante del sacerdote Eleazar y delante de toda la congregación. 23 Luego puso sus manos sobre él y le impartió autoridad^a, tal como el SEÑOR había hablado por medio¹ de Moisés.

Then ^athe daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph, came forward; and these are ^bthe names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. 2 They stood before Moses, before Eleazar the priest, before the leaders, and all the congregation at the entrance of the tent of meeting, saying, 3 “Our father ^adied in the wilderness, yet he was not among the group of those who gathered together against the LORD, in the group of Korah; but he died in his own sin, and ^bhe had no sons. 4 Why should the name of our father be withdrawn from among his family simply because he had no son? Give us property among our father’s brothers.” 5 ^aSo Moses brought their case before the LORD.

6 Then the LORD said to ¹Moses, 7 “^aThe daughters of Zelophehad are right about their statements. You shall certainly give them hereditary property among their father’s brothers, and you shall transfer the inheritance of their father to them. 8 Further, you shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘If a man dies and has no son, then you shall transfer his inheritance to his daughter. 9 And if he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers. 10 If he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. 11 And if his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his nearest relative in his own family, and he shall take possession of it; and it shall be a ^astatutory ordinance to the sons of Israel, just as the LORD has commanded Moses.’”

12 ^aThen the LORD said to Moses, “Go up to this ^bmountain of Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the sons of Israel. 13 When you have seen it, you too ^awill be gathered to your people, ^bjust as Aaron your brother ¹was; 14 for in the wilderness of Zin, during the strife of the congregation, ^ayou rebelled against My ¹command to treat Me as holy before their eyes at the water.” (These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.)

15 Then Moses spoke to the LORD, saying, 16 “^aMay the LORD, the God of the spirits of ¹humanity, appoint a man over the congregation, 17 who ^awill go out ¹and come in before them, and lead them out and ²bring them in, so that the congregation of the LORD will not be ^blike sheep that have no shepherd.” 18 So the LORD said to Moses, “¹Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man ^ain whom is the Spirit, and ^blay your hand on him; 19 and have him stand before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation, and ^acommission him in their sight. 20 And you shall put some of your ¹authority on him, so that all the congregation of the sons of Israel will obey him. 21 Moreover, he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him ^aby the judgment of the Urim before the LORD. At his ¹command they shall go out, and at his ²command they shall come in, both he and all the sons of Israel with him, all the congregation.” 22 Then Moses did just as the LORD commanded him; he took Joshua and had him stand before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation. 23 Then he laid his hands on him and ^acommissioned him, just as the LORD had spoken ¹through Moses.

Give us a possession among our father’s brothers.” 5 ^aSo Moses brought their case before the LORD.

6 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 7 “^aThe daughters of Zelophehad are right in their statements. At his ¹command they shall go out and at his ²command they shall come in, both he and the sons of Israel with him, even all the congregation.” 22 Moses did just as the LORD commanded him; and he took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation. 23 Then he laid his hands on him and ^acommissioned him, just as the LORD had spoken ¹through Moses.

Then the five ^adaughters of Zelophehad the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, from the ¹tribes of Manasseh who was the son of Joseph, approached with a request. These are ^bthe names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. 2 They stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders, and all the congregation at the doorway of the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle) , saying, 3 “Our father ^adied in the wilderness. He was not among those who assembled together against the LORD in the company of Korah, but he died for his own sin as did all those who rebelled at Kadesh, and ^bhe had no sons. Num 14:26-35 4 Why should the name of our father be removed from his family because he had no son? Give to us a possession (land) among our father’s brothers.” 5 ^aSo Moses brought their case before the LORD.

6 Then the LORD said to Moses, 7 “^aThe request of the daughters of Zelophehad is justified. You shall certainly give them a possession as an inheritance among their father’s brothers, and you shall transfer their father’s inheritance to them. 8 Further, you shall say to the Israelites, ‘If a man dies and has no son, you shall transfer his inheritance to his daughter. 9 If a man has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers. 10 If a man has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. 11 If his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his nearest relative in his own family, and he shall take possession of it. It shall be a ^astatute and ordinance to the Israelites, just as the LORD has commanded Moses.’”

12 ^aThen the LORD said to Moses, “Go up to this ^bmountain (Nebo) in the Abarim range and look at the land I have given to the sons of Israel. 13 When you have seen it, you too ^awill be gathered to your people in death, just ^bas Aaron your brother was gathered; 14 because in the Wilderness of Zin, during the strife of the congregation, ^ayou rebelled against My command to treat me as holy by following My instruction before their eyes at the water.” (These are the waters of Meribah in Kadesh in the Wilderness of Zin.) Num 20:10-12

15 Then Moses spoke to the LORD, saying, 16 “^1aLet the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation 17 who ^awill go out and come in before them, and will lead them out and bring them in, so that the congregation of the LORD will not be ^bas sheep without a shepherd.” 18 The LORD said to Moses, “Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man ^ain whom is the Spirit, and ^blay your hand on him; 19 and have him stand before Eleazar the priest and before the whole congregation, and ^agive him a commission in their sight. 20 You shall put some of your authority and honor on him, so that all the congregation of the Israelites will obey him. 21 He shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire before the LORD for him ^aby the judgment (decision) of the ¹Urim. At Joshua’s command the people shall go out and at his command they shall come in, he and all the congregation of Israel with him.” 22 Moses did as the LORD commanded him. He took Joshua and had him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation, 23 and Moses laid his hands on Joshua and ^acommissioned him, just as the LORD had commanded through Moses.
