^aY llegaron al otro lado del mar, a la tierra de los gadarenos¹. 2 Y cuando Él salió de la barca^a, enseguida vino a su encuentro, de entre los sepulcros, un hombre con un espíritu inmundo^b, 3 que tenía su morada entre los sepulcros; y nadie podía ya atarlo ni aun con cadenas; 4 porque muchas veces había sido atado con grillos y cadenas, pero él había roto las cadenas y destrozado los grillos, y nadie era tan fuerte como para dominarlo. 5 Y siempre, noche y día, andaba entre los sepulcros y en los montes dando gritos e hiriéndose con piedras. 6 Cuando vio a Jesús de lejos, corrió y se postró delante de Él; 7 y gritando a gran voz, dijo*: ¿Qué tengo yo que ver contigo¹, Jesús, Hijo del Dios^a Altísimo^b? Te imploro por Dios que no me atormentes^c. 8 Porque Jesús le decía: Sal del hombre, espíritu inmundo. 9 Y le preguntó: ¿Cómo te llamas? Y él le dijo*: Me llamo Legión^a, porque somos muchos. 10 Entonces le rogaba con insistencia que no los enviara fuera de la tierra. 11 Y había allí una gran piara de cerdos paciendo junto al monte. 12 Y los demonios le rogaron, diciendo: Envíanos a los cerdos para que entremos en ellos. 13 Y Él les dio permiso. Y saliendo los espíritus inmundos, entraron en los cerdos; y la piara, unos dos mil, se precipitó por un despeñadero al mar, y en el mar se ahogaron¹. 14 Y los que cuidaban los cerdos¹ huyeron y lo contaron en la ciudad y por los campos. Y la gente vino a ver qué era lo que había sucedido. 15 Y vinieron* a Jesús, y vieron* al que había estado endemoniado^a, sentado, vestido^b y en su cabal juicio, el mismo que había tenido la legión^c; y tuvieron miedo^d. 16 Y los que lo habían visto les describieron cómo le había sucedido esto al endemoniado^a, y lo de los cerdos. 17 Y comenzaron a rogarle que se fuera de su comarca^a. 18 ^aAl entrar Él en la barca, el que había estado endemoniado^b le rogaba que lo dejara acompañarle¹. 19 Pero Jesús no se lo permitió, sino que le dijo*: Vete a tu casa, a los tuyos, y cuéntales cuán grandes cosas¹ el Señor ha hecho por ti, y cómo tuvo misericordia de ti^a. 20 Y él se fue, y empezó a proclamar en Decápolis^a cuán grandes cosas¹ Jesús había hecho por él; y todos se quedaban maravillados.

21 Cuando Jesús pasó otra vez^a en la barca^b al otro lado, se reunió una gran multitud alrededor de Él; así que Él se quedó¹ junto al mar^c. 22 ^aY vino uno de los oficiales¹ de la sinagoga^b, llamado Jairo, y al verle se postró* a sus pies. 23 Y le rogaba* con insistencia, diciendo: Mi hijita está al borde de la muerte; te ruego que vengas y pongas las manos sobre ella^a para que sane¹ y viva. 24 Jesús fue con él; y una gran multitud le seguía y le oprimía.

25 Y una mujer que había tenido flujo de sangre por doce años, 26 y había sufrido mucho a manos de muchos médicos, y había gastado todo lo que tenía sin provecho alguno, sino que al contrario, había empeorado; 27 cuando oyó hablar de Jesús, se llegó a Él por detrás entre la multitud y tocó su manto. 28 Porque decía¹: Si tansolo toco sus ropas, sanaré². 29 Al instante la fuente de su sangre se secó, y sintió en su cuerpo que estaba curada de su aflicción^a. 30 Y enseguida Jesús, dándose cuenta de que había salido poder de Él^a, volviéndose entre la gente, dijo: ¿Quién ha tocado mi ropa? 31 Y sus discípulos le dijeron: Ves que la multitud te oprime, y dices: «¿Quién me ha tocado?». 32 Pero Él miraba a su alrededor para ver a la mujer que le había tocado¹. 33 Entonces la mujer, temerosa y temblando, dándose cuenta de lo que le había sucedido, vino y se postró delante de Él y le dijo toda la verdad. 34 Y Jesús le dijo: Hija, tu fe te ha sanado^1a; vete en paz^b y queda sana de tu aflicción^c.

35 Mientras estaba todavía hablando, vinieron* de casa del oficial de la sinagoga^a, diciendo: Tu hija ha muerto, ¿para qué molestas aún al Maestro? 36 Pero Jesús, oyendo lo que se hablaba, dijo* al oficial de la sinagoga^a: No temas, cree solamente^1b. 37 Y no permitió que nadie fuera con Él sinosolo Pedro, Jacobo¹ y Juan, el hermano de Jacobo^2a. 38 Fueron* a la casa del oficial de la sinagoga^a, y Jesús vio* el alboroto, y a los que lloraban y se lamentaban mucho. 39 Y entrando les dijo*: ¿Por qué hacéis alboroto y lloráis? La niña no ha muerto, sino que está dormida. 40 Y se burlaban de Él. Pero Él, echando fuera a todos, tomó* consigo al padre y a la madre de la niña, y a los que estaban con Él, y entró* donde estaba la niña. 41 Y tomando a la niña por la mano, le dijo*: Talita cum (que traducido significa: Niña, a ti te digo, ¡levántate^a!). 42 Al instante la niña se levantó y comenzó a caminar, pues tenía doce años. Y al momento se quedaron completamente atónitos. 43 Entonces les dio órdenes estrictas de que nadie se enterara de esto^a; y dijo que le dieran de comer a la niña¹.

^aThey came to the other side of the sea, into the region of the Gerasenes. 2 When He got out of ^athe boat, immediately a man from the tombs ^bwith an unclean spirit met Him. 3 He lived among the tombs; and no one was able to bind him anymore, not even with a chain, 4 because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him and the shackles broken in pieces; and no one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Constantly, night and day, he was screaming among the tombs and in the mountains, and cutting himself with stones. 6 Seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran up and bowed down before Him; 7 and shouting with a loud voice, he *said, “^1aWhat business do You have with me, Jesus, ^bSon of ^cthe Most High God? I implore You by God, do not torment me!” 8 For He had already been saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” 9 And He was asking him, “What is your name?” And he *said to Him, “My name is ^aLegion, for we are many.” 10 And he begged Him earnestly not to send them out of the region. 11 Now there was a large herd of pigs feeding ¹nearby on the mountain. 12 And the demons begged Him, saying, “Send us into the pigs so that we may enter them.” 13 Jesus gave them permission. And coming out, the unclean spirits entered the pigs; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, about two thousand of them; and they were drowned in the sea.

14 Their herdsmen ran away and reported it in the city and in the countryside. And the people came to see what it was that had happened. 15 And then they *came to Jesus and *saw the man who had been ^ademon-possessed sitting down, ^bclothed and ^cin his right mind, the very man who had previously had the “^dlegion”; and they became frightened. 16 Those who had seen it described to them how it had happened to the ^ademon-possessed man, and all about the pigs. 17 And they began to ^abeg Him to leave their region. 18 ^aAnd as He was getting into the boat, the man who had been ^bdemon-possessed was begging Him that he might ¹accompany Him. 19 And He did not let him, but He *said to him, “^aGo home to your people and report to them ¹what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you.” 20 And he went away and began to ^aproclaim in ^bDecapolis ¹what great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed.

21 ^aWhen Jesus had crossed over again in ^bthe boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around Him; and He ¹stayed ^cby the seashore. 22 ^aAnd one of ^bthe synagogue ¹officials, named Jairus, *came, and upon seeing Him, *fell at His feet 23 and *pleaded with Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death; please come and ^alay Your hands on her, so that she will ¹get well and live.” 24 And He went off with him; and a large crowd was following Him and pressing in on Him.

25 A woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years, 26 and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but instead had become worse— 27 after hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind Him and touched His ¹cloak. 28 For she had been saying to herself, “If I just touch His garments, I will ¹get well.” 29 And immediately the flow of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her ^adisease. 30 And immediately Jesus, perceiving in Himself that ^apower from Him had gone out, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My garments?” 31 And His disciples said to Him, “You see the crowd pressing in on You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’” 32 And He looked around to see the woman who had done this. 33 But the woman, fearing and trembling, aware of what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. 34 And He said to her, “Daughter, ^ayour faith has ¹made you well; ^bgo in peace and be cured of your ^cdisease.”

35 While He was still speaking, people *came from the house of the ^asynagogue official, saying, “Your daughter has died; why bother the Teacher further?” 36 But Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, *said to the ^asynagogue official, “^bDo not be afraid, only ¹believe.” 37 And He allowed no one to accompany Him except ^aPeter, ¹James, and John the brother of ²James. 38 They *came to the house of the ^asynagogue official, and He *saw a commotion, and people loudly weeping and wailing. 39 And after entering, He *said to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child has not died, but is asleep.” 40 And they began laughing at Him. But putting them all outside, He *took along the child’s father and mother and His own companions, and *entered the room where the child was in bed. 41 And taking the child by the hand, He *said to her, “Talitha, kum!” (which translated means, “Little girl, ^aI say to you, get up!”). 42 And immediately the girl got up and began to walk, for she was twelve years old. And immediately they were completely astonished. 43 And He ^agave them strict orders that no one was to know about this, and He told them to have something given her to eat.

I implore You by God, do not torment me!” 8 For He had been saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” 9 And He was asking him, “What is your name?” And he *said to Him, “My name is ^aLegion; for we are many.” 10 And he began to implore Him earnestly not to send them out of the country. 11 Now there was a large herd of swine feeding ¹nearby on the mountain. 12 The demons implored Him, saying, “Send us into the swine so that we may enter them.” 13 Jesus gave them permission. And coming out, the unclean spirits entered the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, about two thousand of them; and they were drowned in the sea.

14 Their herdsmen ran away and reported it in the city and in the country. And the people came to see what it was that had happened. 15 They *came to Jesus and *observed the man who had been ^ademon-possessed sitting down, ^bclothed and ^cin his right mind, the very man who had had the “^dlegion”; and they became frightened. 16 Those who had seen it described to them how it had happened to the ^ademon-possessed man, and all about the swine. 17 And they began to ^aimplore Him to leave their region. 18 ^aAs He was getting into the boat, the man who had been ^bdemon-possessed was imploring Him that he might ¹accompany Him. 19 And He did not let him, but He *said to him, “^aGo home to your people and report to them ¹what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you.” 20 And he went away and began to ^aproclaim in ^bDecapolis ¹what great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed.

Matt 8:28-34; Luke 8:26-37 2 When Jesus got out of ^athe boat, immediately a man from the tombs ^bwith an unclean spirit met Him, 3 and the man lived in the ¹tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with chains. 4 For he had often been bound with shackles for the feet and with chains, and he tore apart the chains and broke the shackles into pieces, and no one was strong enough to subdue and tame him. 5 Night and day he was constantly screaming and shrieking among the tombs and on the mountains, and cutting himself with sharp stones. 6 Seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran up and bowed down before Him in homage; 7 and screaming with a loud voice, he said, “^1aWhat business do we have in common with each other, Jesus, ^bSon of ^cthe Most High God? I implore you by God swear to me, do not torment me!” Matt 8:29; Luke 4:34 8 For Jesus had been saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” 9 He was asking him, “What is your name?” And he replied, “My name is ^aLegion; for we are many.” 10 And he began begging Him repeatedly not to send them out of the region. 11 Now there was a large herd of pigs grazing there on the mountain. 12 And the demons begged Him, saying, “Send us to the pigs so that we may go into them!” 13 Jesus gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out of the man and entered the pigs. The herd, numbering about two thousand, rushed down the steep bank into the sea; and they were drowned one after the other in the sea.

14 The herdsmen tending the pigs ran away and reported it in the city and in the country. And the people came to see what had happened. 15 They came to Jesus and saw the man who had been ^ademon-possessed sitting down, ^bclothed and ^cin his right mind, the man who had previously had the “^dlegion” of demons; and they were frightened. 16 Those who had seen it described in detail to the people what had happened to the ^ademon-possessed man, and told them all about the pigs. 17 So the people began to ^abeg with Jesus to leave their region. 18 ^aAs He was stepping into the boat, the Gentile man who had been ^bdemon-possessed was begging with Him asking that he might go with Him as a disciple. 19 Jesus did not let him come, but instead He said to him, “^aGo home to your family and tell them all the great things that the Lord has done for you, and how He has had mercy on you.” 20 So he obeyed and went away and began to ^apublicly proclaim in ^bDecapolis the region of the ten Hellenistic cities all the great things that Jesus had done for him; and all the people were astonished.

21 ^aWhen Jesus had again crossed over in ^bthe boat to the other side of the sea, a large crowd gathered around Him; and so He stayed ^cby the seashore. 22 ^aOne of ^bthe synagogue officials named Jairus came up; and seeing Him, fell at His feet Matt 9:18-26; Luke 8:41-56 23 and begged anxiously with Him, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death; please come and ^alay Your hands on her, so that she will be healed and live.” 24 And Jesus went with him; and a large crowd followed Him and pressed in around Him from all sides.

25 A woman in the crowd had suffered from a hemorrhage for twelve years, 26 and had endured much suffering at the hands of many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but instead had become worse. 27 She had heard reports about Jesus, and she came up behind Him in the crowd and touched His outer robe. 28 For she thought, “If I just touch His clothing, I will get well.” 29 Immediately her flow of blood was dried up; and she felt in her body and knew without any doubt that she was healed of her ^asuffering. 30 Immediately Jesus, recognizing in Himself that ^apower had gone out from Him, turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched My clothes?” 31 His disciples said to Him, “You see the crowd pressing in around You from all sides, and You ask, ‘Who touched Me?’” 32 Still He kept looking around to see the woman who had done it. 33 And the woman, though she was afraid and trembling, aware of what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. 34 Then He said to her, “Daughter, ^ayour faith your personal trust and confidence in Me has restored you to health; ^bgo in peace and be permanently healed from your ^csuffering.”

35 While He was still speaking, some people came from the ^asynagogue official’s house, saying to Jairus, “Your daughter has died; why bother the Teacher any longer?” 36 Overhearing what was being said, Jesus said to the ^asynagogue official, “^bDo not be afraid; only keep on believing in Me and my power.” 37 And He allowed no one to go with Him as witnesses, except ^aPeter and ¹James and John the brother of James. 38 They came to the house of the ^asynagogue official; and He looked with understanding at the uproar and commotion, and people loudly weeping and wailing in mourning. 39 When He had gone in, He said to them, “Why make a commotion and weep? The child has not died, but is sleeping.” 40 They began laughing scornfully at Him because they knew the child was dead. But He made them all ¹go outside, and took along the child’s father and mother and His own three companions, and entered the room where the child was. 41 Taking the child’s hand, He said tenderly to her, “Talitha kum!”—which translated from Aramaic means, “Little girl, ^aI say to you, get up!” 42 The little girl immediately got up and began to walk, for she was twelve years old. And immediately they who witnessed the child’s resurrection were overcome with great wonder and utter amazement. 43 He ^agave strict orders that no one should know about this, and He told them to give her something to eat.
