Y el ángel del SEÑOR^a subió de Gilgal a Boquim^b y dijo: Yo os saqué de Egipto^c y os conduje a la tierra que había prometido a vuestros padres y dije: «Jamás quebrantaré mi pacto con vosotros^d, 2 y en cuanto a vosotros, no haréis pacto con los habitantes de esta tierra^a; sus altares derribaréis^b». Pero vosotros no me habéis obedecido¹; ¿qué es esto que habéis hecho? 3 Por lo cual también dije: «No los echaré de delante de vosotros, sino que serán como espinas en vuestro costado^1a, y sus dioses serán lazo para vosotros». 4 Y sucedió que cuando el ángel del SEÑOR habló estas palabras a todos los hijos de Israel, el pueblo alzó su voz y lloró. 5 Y llamaron a aquel lugar Boquim¹; y allí ofrecieron sacrificio al SEÑOR.

6 ^aDespués que Josué despidió al pueblo, los hijos de Israel fueron cada uno a su heredad para tomar posesión de la tierra. 7 Y el pueblo sirvió al SEÑOR todos los días de Josué, y todos los días de los ancianos que sobrevivieron a¹ Josué, los cuales habían sido testigos de² la gran obra que el SEÑOR había hecho por Israel. 8 Josué, hijo de Nun, siervo del SEÑOR, murió a la edad de ciento diez años. 9 Y lo sepultaron en el territorio de su heredad, en Timnat-sera¹, en la región montañosa de Efraín^a, al norte del monte Gaas. 10 También toda aquella generación fue reunida a sus padres; y se levantó otra generación después de ellos que no conocía al SEÑOR^a, ni la obra que Él había hecho por Israel.

11 Entonces los hijos de Israel hicieron lo malo ante los ojos del SEÑOR^a y sirvieron¹ a los baales^b, 12 y abandonaron al SEÑOR^a, el Dios de sus padres, que los había sacado de la tierra de Egipto, y siguieron a otros dioses de entre los dioses de los pueblos que estaban a su derredor; se postraron ante ellos y provocaron a ira al SEÑOR. 13 Y dejaron al SEÑOR y sirvieron a Baal y a Astarot^a. 14 Y se encendió la ira del SEÑOR contra Israel^a, y los entregó en manos de salteadores que los saquearon; y los vendió en mano de sus enemigos^b de alrededor, y ya no pudieron hacer frente a sus enemigos. 15 Por dondequiera que iban, la mano del SEÑOR estaba contra ellos para mal, tal como el SEÑOR había dicho y como el SEÑOR les había jurado, y se angustiaron en gran manera^a. 16 Entonces el SEÑOR levantó jueces que¹ los libraron de la mano de los que los saqueaban^a. 17 Con todo no escucharon a sus jueces, porque se prostituyeron siguiendo a¹ otros dioses, y se postraron ante ellos. Se apartaron pronto del camino en que sus padres habían andado en obediencia a los mandamientos del SEÑOR^a; no hicieron como sus padres. 18 Cuando el SEÑOR les levantaba jueces, el SEÑOR estaba con el juez y los libraba de mano de sus enemigos todos los días del juez^a; porque el SEÑOR se compadecía por sus gemidos a causa de los que los oprimían y afligían^b. 19 Pero acontecía que al morir el juez, ellos volvían atrás y se corrompían aún más que sus padres, siguiendo a otros dioses, sirviéndoles e inclinándose ante ellos; no dejaban sus costumbres ni su camino obstinado. 20 Y se encendió la ira del SEÑOR contra Israel^a, y dijo: Por cuanto esta nación ha quebrantado el¹ pacto que ordené a sus padres, y no ha escuchado mi voz, 21 tampoco yo volveré a expulsar¹ de delante de ellos a ninguna de las naciones^a que Josué dejó cuando murió, 22 para probar por medio de ellas a Israel, a ver si guardan o no el camino del SEÑOR^a, y andan en él como lo hicieron¹ sus padres. 23 Así pues, el SEÑOR permitió que aquellas naciones se quedaran allí, sin expulsarlas¹ enseguida, y no las entregó en manos de Josué.

Now ^athe angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to ^bBochim. And he said, “^cI brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land which I have sworn to your fathers; and I said, ‘^dI will never break My covenant with you, 2 and as for you, ^ayou shall not make a covenant with the inhabitants of this land; ^byou shall tear down their altars.’ But you have not ¹obeyed Me; what is this thing that you have done? 3 Therefore I also said, ‘^aI will not drive them out from you; but they will ¹become ^blike thorns in your sides, and their gods will be a snare to you.’” 4 Now when the angel of the LORD spoke these words to all the sons of Israel, the people raised their voices and wept. 5 So they named that place ¹Bochim; and there they sacrificed to the LORD.

6 ^aWhen Joshua had dismissed the people, the sons of Israel went, each one to his inheritance, to take possession of the land. 7 The people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who ¹survived Joshua, who had seen all the great work of the LORD which He had done for Israel. 8 Then Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of 110. 9 And they buried him in the territory of ^ahis inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash. 10 All that generation also were gathered to their fathers; and another generation rose up after them who ^adid not know the LORD, nor even the work which He had done for Israel.

11 Then the sons of Israel did ^aevil in the sight of the LORD and ¹served the ^bBaals, 12 and ^athey abandoned the LORD, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt, and they followed other gods from the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed down to them; so they provoked the LORD to anger. 13 They abandoned the LORD and ^aserved Baal and the Ashtaroth. 14 ^aThen the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He handed them over to plunderers, and they plundered them; and ^bHe sold them into the hands of their enemies around them, so that they could no longer stand ¹against their enemies. 15 Wherever they went, the hand of the LORD was against them for ¹evil, as the LORD had spoken and ^ajust as the LORD had sworn to them, so that they were severely distressed.

16 ^aThen the LORD raised up judges ¹who saved them from the hands of those who plundered them. 17 Yet they did not listen to their judges, for they ¹committed infidelity with other gods and bowed down to them. They turned aside quickly from the way ^ain which their fathers had walked in obeying the commandments of the LORD; they did not do the same as their fathers. 18 And when the LORD raised up judges for them, ^athe LORD was with the judge and saved them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for the LORD was ^bmoved to pity by their groaning because of those who tormented and oppressed them. 19 But it came about, when the judge died, that they would turn back and act more corruptly than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them and bow down to them; they did not abandon their practices or their obstinate ways. 20 ^aSo the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He said, “Because this nation has violated My covenant which I commanded their fathers, and has not listened to My voice, 21 ^aI in turn will no longer drive out from them any of the nations which Joshua left when he died, 22 in order to ^atest Israel by them, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk in it as their fathers ¹did, or not.” 23 So the LORD allowed those nations to remain, not driving them out quickly; and He did not hand them over to Joshua.

Now ^athe angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to ^bBochim. 6 ^aWhen Joshua had dismissed the people, the sons of Israel went each to his inheritance to possess the land. 7 The people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who ¹survived Joshua, who had seen all the great work of the LORD which He had done for Israel. 8 Then Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of one hundred and ten. 9 And they buried him in the territory of ^ahis inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash. 10 All that generation also were gathered to their fathers; and there arose another generation after them who ^adid not know the LORD, nor yet the work which He had done for Israel.

11 Then the sons of Israel did ^aevil in the sight of the LORD and ¹served the ^bBaals, 12 and ^athey forsook the LORD, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed themselves down to them; thus they provoked the LORD to anger. 13 So they forsook the LORD and ^aserved Baal and the Ashtaroth. 14 ^aThe anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He gave them into the hands of plunderers who plundered them; and ^bHe sold them into the hands of their enemies around them, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies. 15 Wherever they went, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had spoken and ^aas the LORD had sworn to them, so that they were severely distressed.

16 ^aThen the LORD raised up judges ¹who delivered them from the hands of those who plundered them. 17 Yet they did not listen to their judges, for they played the harlot after other gods and bowed themselves down to them. They turned aside quickly from the way ^ain which their fathers had walked in obeying the commandments of the LORD; they did not do as their fathers. 18 When the LORD raised up judges for them, ^athe LORD was with the judge and delivered them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for the LORD was ^bmoved to pity by their groaning because of those who oppressed and afflicted them. 19 But it came about when the judge died, that they would turn back and act more corruptly than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them and bow down to them; they did not abandon their practices or their stubborn ways. 20 ^aSo the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He said, “Because this nation has transgressed My covenant which I commanded their fathers and has not listened to My voice, 21 ^aI also will no longer drive out before them any of the nations which Joshua left when he died, 22 in order to ^atest Israel by them, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk in it as their fathers ¹did, or not.” 23 So the LORD allowed those nations to remain, not driving them out quickly; and He did not give them into the hand of Joshua.

Now ^athe ¹Angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to ^bBochim. And he said, “^cI brought you up from Egypt and led you to the land which I swore to give to your fathers; and I said, ‘^dI will never break My covenant with you, Ex 20:2; 23:32 2 and as for you, ^ayou shall not make a covenant with the inhabitants of this land; ^byou shall tear down their altars.’ But you have not ¹obeyed Me; what is this that you have done? 3 So I also said, ‘^aI will not drive your enemies out before you; but they will be ^blike thorns in your sides and their gods will be a snare to you.’” 4 When the Angel of the LORD had spoken these words to all the Israelites, the people raised their voices and wept. 5 So they named that place Bochim (weepers) ; and there they offered sacrifices to the LORD.

6 And ^awhen Joshua had sent the people away, the tribes of the Israelites went each to his inheritance, to take possession of the land. 7 The people served the LORD all the days of Joshua and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work of the LORD which He had done for Israel. 8 Then Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of a hundred and ten. 9 And they buried him in the territory of ^ahis inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash. 10 Also, all the people of that generation were gathered to their fathers in death; and another generation arose after them who ^adid not know (recognize, understand) the LORD, nor even the work which He had done for Israel.

11 Then the Israelites did ^aevil in the sight of the LORD and worshiped and served the ^bBaals, 12 and ^athey abandoned the LORD, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt. They followed other gods from the gods of the peoples who were around them, and they bowed down to them, and offended and provoked the LORD to anger. 13 So they abandoned the LORD and ^aserved Baal the pagan god of the Canaanites and the ¹Ashtaroth. 14 So ^athe anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He gave them into the hands (power) of plunderers who robbed them; and ^bHe sold them into the hands of their surrounding enemies, so that they could no longer stand in opposition before their enemies. 15 Wherever they went, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil (misfortune) , as the LORD had spoken, and ^aas the LORD had sworn to them, so that they were severely distressed. Lev 26:14-46

16 ^aThen the LORD raised up ¹judges who rescued them from the hands of those who robbed them. 17 Yet they did not listen to their judges, for they played the prostitute after other gods and they bowed down to them. They quickly turned aside from the way ^ain which their fathers had walked in obeying the commandments of the LORD; they did not do as their fathers. 18 When the LORD raised up judges for them, ^aHe was with the judge and He rescued them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for the LORD was ^bmoved to pity by their groaning because of those who oppressed and afflicted them. 19 But when the judge died, they turned back and behaved more corruptly than their fathers, in following and serving other gods, and bowing down to them. They did not ¹abandon their practices or their stubborn ways. 20 ^aSo the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He said, “Because this ¹nation has transgressed (violated) My covenant (binding agreement) which I commanded their fathers, and has not listened to My voice, 21 ^aI also will no longer drive out before them any of the nations which Joshua left to be conquered when he died, 22 in order to ^atest the loyalty of Israel by them, whether Israel will keep the way of the LORD to walk in it, as their fathers did, or not.” 23 So the LORD allowed those nations to remain, not driving them out at once; and He did not give them into the hand of Joshua.
