^aDespués de esto, Jesús se fue al otro lado del mar de Galilea^b, el de Tiberias^c. 2 Y le seguía una gran multitud, pues veían las señales^1a que realizaba en los enfermos. 3 Jesús subió al monte^a y se sentó allí con sus discípulos. 4 Y estaba cerca la Pascua^a, la fiesta de los judíos. 5 Entonces Jesús, alzando los ojos y viendo que una gran multitud venía hacia Él, dijo* a Felipe^a: ¿Dónde compraremos pan para que comanestos? 6 Pero decía esto para probarlo^a, porque Él sabía lo que iba a hacer. 7 Felipe^a le respondió: Doscientos denarios¹ de pan^b no les bastarán para que cada uno reciba un pedazo². 8 Uno de sus discípulos^a, Andrés, hermano de Simón Pedro^b, dijo* a Jesús¹: 9 Aquí hay un muchacho que tiene cinco panes de cebada y dos pescados^a; pero ¿qué es esto para tantos? 10 Jesús dijo: Haced que la gente se recueste. Y había mucha hierba^a en aquel lugar. Así que los hombres se recostaron, en número de unos cinco mil^b. 11 Entonces Jesús tomó los panes, y habiendo dado gracias^a, los repartió a los que estaban recostados¹; y lo mismo hizo con los pescados^b, dándoles todo lo que querían. 12 Cuando se saciaron, dijo* a sus discípulos^a: Recoged los pedazos que sobran, para que no se pierda nada. 13 Los recogieron, pues, y llenaron doce cestas^a con los pedazos de los cinco panes de cebada que sobraron a los que habían comido. 14 La gente entonces, al ver la señal¹ que Jesús había hecho, decía: Verdaderamente este es el Profeta^a que había de venir² al mundo.

15 Por lo que Jesús, dándose cuenta de que iban a venir y llevárselo por la fuerza para hacerle rey^a, ^bse retiró otra vez al monte^c Él solo.

16 Al atardecer, sus discípulos^a descendieron al mar, 17 y subiendo en una barca, se dirigían al otro lado del mar, hacia Capernaúm^a. Ya había oscurecido, y Jesús todavía no había venido a ellos; 18 y el mar estaba agitado porque soplaba un fuerte viento. 19 Cuando habían remado unos veinticinco o treinta estadios¹, vieron* a Jesús caminando sobre el mar y acercándose a la barca; y se asustaron. 20 Pero Él les dijo*: Soy yo; no temáis^a. 21 Entonces ellos querían recibirle en la barca, e inmediatamente la barca llegó a la tierra adonde iban.

22 Al día siguiente, la multitud^a que había quedado al otro lado del mar se dio cuenta de¹ que allí no había² más que una barca, y que Jesús no había entrado en ella³ con sus discípulos, sino que sus discípulos se habían ido solos^b. 23 Vinieron otras barcas de Tiberias^a cerca del lugar donde habían comido el pan después de que el Señor^b había dado gracias^c. 24 Por tanto, cuando la gente vio que Jesús no estaba allí, ni tampoco sus discípulos, subieron a las barcas y se fueron a Capernaúm^a buscando a Jesús. 25 Cuando le hallaron al otro lado del mar, le dijeron: Rabí^1a, ¿cuándo llegaste acá? 26 Jesús les respondió y dijo: En verdad, en verdad os digo: me buscáis^a, no porque hayáis visto señales^1b, sino porque habéis comido de los panes y os habéis saciado. 27 Trabajad, no por el alimento que perece, sino por el alimento que permanece^a para vida eterna^b, el cual el Hijo del Hombre^c os dará, porque aeste es a quien el Padre, Dios, ha marcado con su sello^d. 28 Entonces le dijeron: ¿Qué debemos hacer¹ para poner en práctica las obras de Dios? 29 Respondió Jesús y les dijo: Esta es la obra de Dios: que creáis^a en el que Él ha enviado^b. 30 Le dijeron entonces: ¿Qué, pues, haces tú como señal^1a para que veamos y te creamos? ¿Qué obra haces? 31 Nuestros padres comieron el maná en el desierto^a, como está escrito: «LES DIO A COMER PAN DEL CIELO^b». 32 Entonces Jesús les dijo: En verdad, en verdad os digo: no es Moisés el que os ha dado el pan del cielo, sino que es mi Padre el que os da el verdadero pan del cielo. 33 Porque el pan de Dios es el¹ que baja del cielo^a, y da vida al mundo. 34 Entonces le dijeron: Señor, danos siempre este pan^a. 35 Jesús les dijo: Yo soy el pan de la vida^a; el que viene a mí no tendrá hambre, y el que cree en mí nunca tendrá sed^b. 36 Pero ya os dije que aunque me habéis visto^a, no creéis. 37 Todo lo que el Padre me da^a, vendrá a mí; y al que viene a mí, de ningún modo lo echaré fuera. 38 Porque he descendido del cielo^a, no para hacer mi voluntad, sino la voluntad del que me envió^b. 39 Y esta es la voluntad del que me envió: que de todo lo que Él me ha dado^a yo no pierda nada^b, sino que lo resucite en el día final^c. 40 Porque esta es la voluntad de mi Padre: que todo aquel que ve al Hijo^a y cree en Él, tenga vida eterna^b, y yo mismo lo resucitaré en el día final^c.

41 Por eso los judíos^a murmuraban de Él, porque había dicho: Yo soy el pan que descendió del cielo^b. 42 Y decían: ¿No eseste Jesús, el hijo de José^a, cuyo padre y madre nosotros conocemos^b? ¿Cómo es que ahora dice: «Yo he descendido del cielo^c»? 43 Respondió Jesús y les dijo: No murmuréis entre vosotros. 44 Nadie puede venir a mí si no lo trae^1a el Padre que me envió, y yo lo resucitaré en el día final^b. 45 Escrito está en los profetas^a: «Y TODOS SERÁN ENSEÑADOS POR DIOS^b». Todo el que ha oído y aprendido del Padre, viene a mí. 46 No es que alguien haya visto al Padre; sino aquel que viene¹ de Dios,este ha visto al Padre^a. 47 En verdad, en verdad os digo: el que cree¹, tiene vida eterna^a. 48 Yo soy el pan de la vida^a. 49 Vuestros padres comieron el maná en el desierto, y murieron^a. 50 Este es el pan que desciende del cielo^a, para que el que coma de él, no muera^b. 51 Yo soy el pan vivo^a que descendió del cielo^b; si alguno come de este pan, vivirá para siempre^c; y el pan que yo también daré por la vida del mundo^d es mi carne^e.

52 Los judíos^a entonces contendían entre sí^b, diciendo: ¿Cómo puedeeste darnos a comer su carne? 53 Entonces Jesús les dijo: En verdad, en verdad os digo: si no coméis la carne del Hijo del Hombre^a y bebéis su sangre, no tenéis vida en vosotros. 54 El que come mi carne y bebe mi sangre, tiene vida eterna, y yo lo resucitaré en el día final^a. 55 Porque mi carne es verdadera comida, y mi sangre es verdadera bebida. 56 El que come mi carne y bebe mi sangre, permanece en mí y yo en él^a. 57 Como el Padre que vive^a me envió^b, y yo vivo por el Padre, asimismo el que me come, él también vivirá por mí. 58 Este es el pan que descendió del cielo^a; no como el que vuestros¹ padres comieron, y murieron^b; el que come este pan vivirá para siempre^c. 59 Esto dijo Jesús en la sinagoga, cuando enseñaba^a en Capernaúm^b.

60 Por eso muchos de sus discípulos^a, cuando oyeron esto, dijeron: Dura es esta declaración^b; ¿quién puede escucharla? 61 Pero Jesús, sabiendo^a en su interior que sus discípulos murmuraban por esto, les dijo: ¿Esto os escandaliza^1b? 62 ¿Pues qué si vierais al Hijo del Hombre^a ascender adonde antes estaba^b? 63 El Espíritu es el que da vida^a; la carne para nada aprovecha; las palabras que yo os he hablado son espíritu y son vida^b. 64 Pero hay algunos de vosotros que no creéis^a. Porque Jesús sabía^b desde el principio quiénes eran los que no creían, y quién era el que le iba a traicionar^1c. 65 Y decía: Por eso os he dicho que nadie puede venir a mí si no se lo ha concedido^a el Padre^b.

66 Como resultado de esto muchos de sus discípulos^a se apartaron^b y ya no andaban con Él. 67 Entonces Jesús dijo a los doce^a: ¿Acaso queréis vosotros iros también? 68 Simón Pedro^a le respondió: Señor, ¿a quién iremos? Tú tienes palabras de vida eterna^b. 69 Y nosotros hemos creído y conocido que tú eres el Santo de Dios^a. 70 Jesús les respondió: ¿No os escogí^a yo a vosotros, los doce^b, y sin embargo uno de vosotros es un diablo^c? 71 Y Él se refería a Judas, hijo de Simón Iscariote^a, porqueeste, uno de los doce^b, le iba a entregar^1c.

After these things ^aJesus went away to the other side of ^bthe Sea of Galilee (or ^cTiberias). 2 A large crowd was following Him, because they were watching the ^1asigns which He was performing on those who were sick. 3 But ^aJesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat with His disciples. 4 Now ^athe Passover, the feast of the Jews, was near. 5 So Jesus, after raising His eyes and seeing that a large crowd was coming to Him, *said to ^aPhilip, “Where are we to buy bread so that these people may eat?” 6 But He was saying this only to ^atest him, for He Himself knew what He intended to do. 7 ^aPhilip answered Him, “^bTwo hundred ¹denarii worth of bread is not enough for them, for each to receive just a little!” 8 One of His ^adisciples, ^bAndrew, Simon Peter’s brother, *said to Him, 9 “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two ^afish; but what are these for so many people?” 10 Jesus said, “Have the people recline to eat.” Now there was ^aplenty of grass in the place. So the men reclined, about ^1bfive thousand in number. 11 Jesus then took the loaves, and ^aafter giving thanks He distributed them to those who were reclining; likewise also of the ^bfish, as much as they wanted. 12 And when they had eaten their fill, He *said to His ^adisciples, “Gather up the leftover pieces so that nothing will be lost.” 13 So they gathered them up, and filled twelve ^abaskets with pieces from the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten. 14 Therefore when the people saw the ¹sign which He had performed, they said, “This is truly the ^aProphet who is to come into the world.”

15 So Jesus, aware that they ¹intended to come and take Him by force ^ato make Him king, ^bwithdrew again to ^cthe mountain by Himself, alone.

16 Now when evening came, His ^adisciples went down to the sea, 17 and after getting into a boat, they started to cross the sea ^ato Capernaum. It had already become dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. 18 In addition, the sea began getting rough, because a strong wind was blowing. 19 Then, when they had rowed about ¹twenty-five or thirty stadia, they *saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat; and they were frightened. 20 But He *said to them, “It is I; ^1ado not be afraid.” 21 So they were willing to take Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.

22 The next day ^athe crowd that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other small boat there except one, and that Jesus ^bhad not gotten into the boat with His disciples, but that His disciples had departed alone. 23 Other small boats came from ^aTiberias near to the place where they ate the bread after the ^bLord ^chad given thanks. 24 So when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they themselves got into the small boats and ^acame to Capernaum, looking for Jesus. 25 And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, “^aRabbi, when did You get here?”

26 Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you ^aseek Me, not because you saw ^1bsigns, but because you ate some of the loaves and were filled. 27 Do not ^awork for the food that perishes, but for the food that lasts for ^beternal life, which ^cthe Son of Man will give you, for on Him the Father, God, ^dhas set His ¹seal.” 28 Therefore they said to Him, “What are we to do, so that we may accomplish the works of God?” 29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is ^athe work of God, that you believe in Him whom He ^bhas sent.” 30 So they said to Him, “^aWhat then are You doing as a ^bsign, so that we may see, and believe You? What work are You performing? 31 ^aOur fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: ‘^bHE GAVE THEM BREAD OUT OF HEAVEN TO EAT.’” 32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven. 33 For the bread of God is ¹that which ^acomes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.” 34 Then they said to Him, “Lord, always ^agive us this bread.”

35 Jesus said to them, “^aI am the bread of life; the one who comes to Me will not be hungry, and the one who believes in Me ^bwill never be thirsty. 36 But ^aI said to you that you have indeed seen Me, and yet you do not believe. 37 ^aEverything that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I certainly will not cast out. 38 For ^aI have come down from heaven, ^bnot to do My own will, but ^cthe will of Him who ^dsent Me. 39 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that of ^aeverything that He has given Me I will ^blose nothing, but will ^craise it up on the last day. 40 For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who ^asees the Son and ^bbelieves in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will ^craise him up on the last day.”

41 ^aSo then the Jews were complaining about Him because He said, “I am the bread that ^bcame down out of heaven.” 42 And they were saying, “^aIs this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother ^bwe know? How does He now say, ‘^cI have come down out of heaven’?” 43 Jesus answered and said to them, “Stop complaining among yourselves. 44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me ^adraws him; and I will ^braise him up on the last day. 45 It is written ^ain the Prophets: ‘^bAND THEY SHALL ALL BE ^cTAUGHT OF GOD.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me. 46 ^aNot that anyone has seen the Father, except the One who is from God; He has seen the Father. 47 Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who believes ^ahas eternal life. 48 ^aI am the bread of life. 49 ^aYour fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50 This is the bread that ^acomes down out of heaven, so that anyone may eat from it and ^bnot die. 51 ^aI am the living bread that ^bcame down out of heaven; if anyone eats from this bread, ^che will live forever; and the bread which I will give ^dfor the life of the world also is ^eMy flesh.”

52 ^aThen the Jews ^bbegan to argue with one another, saying, “How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?” 53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of ^athe Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves. 54 The one who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will ^araise him up on the last day. 55 For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. 56 The one who eats My flesh and drinks My blood ^aremains in Me, and I in him. 57 Just as the ^aliving Father ^bsent Me, and I live because of the Father, the one who eats Me, he also will live because of Me. 58 This is the bread that ^acame down out of heaven, not as ^bthe fathers ate and died; the one who eats this bread ^cwill live forever.”

59 These things He said ^ain the synagogue as He taught ^bin Capernaum.

60 So then many of His ^adisciples, when they heard this, said, “^bThis statement is very ¹unpleasant; who can listen to it?” 61 But Jesus, ^aaware that His disciples were complaining about this, said to them, “Is this ^1boffensive to you? 62 What then if you see ^athe Son of Man ^bascending to where He was before? 63 ^aIt is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh provides no benefit; ^bthe words that I have spoken to you are spirit, and are life. 64 But there are ^asome of you who do not believe.” For Jesus ^bknew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and ^cwho it was who would ¹betray Him. 65 And He was saying, “For this reason I have ^atold you that no one can come to Me unless ^bit has been granted him from the Father.”

66 As a result of this many of His ^adisciples ^bleft, and would no longer walk with Him. 67 So Jesus said to ^athe twelve, “You do not want to leave also, do you?” 68 ^aSimon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have ^bwords of eternal life. 69 And we have already believed and have come to know that You are ^athe Holy One of God.” 70 Jesus answered them, “^aDid I Myself not choose you, ^bthe twelve? And yet one of you is ^ca devil.” 71 Now He meant Judas ^athe son of Simon Iscariot; for he, ^bone of ^cthe twelve, ¹was going to betray Him.

16 Now when evening came, His ^adisciples went down to the sea, 17 and after getting into a boat, they started to cross the sea ^ato Capernaum. It had already become dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. 18 The sea began to be stirred up because a strong wind was blowing. 19 Then, when they had rowed about ¹three or four miles, they *saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat; and they were frightened. 20 But He *said to them, “It is I; ^1ado not be afraid.” 21 So they were willing to receive Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.

22 The next day ^athe crowd that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other small boat there, except one, and that Jesus ^bhad not entered with His disciples into the boat, but that His disciples had gone away alone. 23 There came other small boats from ^aTiberias near to the place where they ate the bread after the ^bLord ^chad given thanks. 24 So when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they themselves got into the small boats, and ^acame to Capernaum seeking Jesus. 25 When they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, “^aRabbi, when did You get here?”

26 Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you ^aseek Me, not because you saw ^bsigns, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27 Do not ^awork for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to ^beternal life, which ^cthe Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, ^dhas set His seal.” 28 Therefore they said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?” 29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is ^athe work of God, that you believe in Him whom He ^bhas sent.” 30 So they said to Him, “^aWhat then do You do for a ^bsign, so that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform? 31 ^aOur fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘^bHE GAVE THEM BREAD OUT OF HEAVEN TO EAT.’” 32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven. 33 For the bread of God is ¹that which ^acomes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.” 34 Then they said to Him, “Lord, always ^agive us this bread.”

41 ^aTherefore the Jews were grumbling about Him, because He said, “I am the bread that ^bcame down out of heaven.” 42 They were saying, “^aIs not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother ^bwe know? How does He now say, ‘^cI have come down out of heaven’?” 43 Jesus answered and said to them, “Do not grumble among yourselves. 44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me ^adraws him; and I will ^braise him up on the last day. 45 It is written ^ain the prophets, ‘^bAND THEY SHALL ALL BE ^cTAUGHT OF GOD.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me. 46 ^aNot that anyone has seen the Father, except the One who is from God; He has seen the Father. 47 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes ^ahas eternal life. 48 ^aI am the bread of life. 49 ^aYour fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50 This is the bread which ^acomes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and ^bnot die. 51 ^aI am the living bread that ^bcame down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, ^che will live forever; and the bread also which I will give ^dfor the life of the world is ^eMy flesh.”

60 Therefore many of His ^adisciples, when they heard this said, “^bThis is a difficult statement; who can listen to it?” 61 But Jesus, ^aconscious that His disciples grumbled at this, said to them, “Does this ^bcause you to stumble? 62 What then if you see ^athe Son of Man ^bascending to where He was before? 63 ^aIt is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; ^bthe words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life. 64 But there are ^asome of you who do not believe.” For Jesus ^bknew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and ^cwho it was that would ¹betray Him. 65 And He was saying, “For this reason I have ^asaid to you, that no one can come to Me unless ^bit has been granted him from the Father.”

66 As a result of this many of His ^adisciples ^bwithdrew and were not walking with Him anymore. 67 So Jesus said to ^athe twelve, “You do not want to go away also, do you?” 68 ^aSimon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have ^bwords of eternal life. 69 We have believed and have come to know that You are ^athe Holy One of God.” 70 Jesus answered them, “^aDid I Myself not choose you, ^bthe twelve, and yet one of you is ^ca devil?” 71 Now He meant Judas ^athe son of Simon Iscariot, for he, ^bone of ^cthe twelve, ¹was going to betray Him.

Ex 12:1-36 5 Jesus looked up and saw that a large crowd was coming toward Him, and He said to ^aPhilip, “Where will we buy bread for these people to eat?” 6 But He said this to ^atest Philip, because He knew what He was about to do. 7 ^aPhilip answered, “^bTwo hundred denarii (200 days’ wages) worth of bread is not enough for each one to receive even a little.” 8 One of His ^adisciples, ^bAndrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him, 9 “There is a little boy here who has five barley loaves and two ^afish; but what are these for so many people?” 10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down to eat.” Now the ground there was covered with an ^aabundance of grass, so the men sat down, about ^1b5,000 in number. 11 Then Jesus took the loaves, and when He ^ahad given thanks, He distributed them to those who were seated; the same also with the ^bfish, as much as they wanted. 12 When they had eaten enough, He said to His ^adisciples, “Gather up the leftover pieces so that nothing will be lost.” 13 So they gathered them up, and they filled twelve large ^abaskets with pieces from the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten. 14 When the people saw the sign (attesting miracle) that He had done, they began saying, “This is without a doubt the promised ^aProphet who is to come into the world!” Deut 18:15, 18; John 1:21; Acts 3:22

15 Then Jesus, knowing that they were going to come and take Him by force ^ato make Him king, ^bwithdrew again to ^cthe mountainside by Himself.

16 When evening came, His ^adisciples went down to the sea, 17 and they got into a boat and started to cross the sea ^ato Capernaum. It was already dark, and Jesus had still not come back to them. 18 The sea was getting rough and rising high because a strong wind was blowing. 19 Then, when they had rowed ¹three or four miles and were near the ²center of the sea, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and approaching the boat; and they were terribly frightened. 20 But Jesus said to them, “It is I (I AM) ; ^ado not be afraid.” Matt 14:27; John 8:58 21 Then they were willing to take Him on board the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore of the land to which they were going.

22 The next day ^athe crowd that stood on the other side of the sea realized that there had been only one small boat there, and that Jesus ^bhad not boarded the boat with His disciples, but that His disciples had gone away alone. 23 Now some other small boats from ^1aTiberias had come in near the place where they ate the bread after the ^bLord ^chad given thanks. 24 So when the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor His disciples were there, they boarded the small boats themselves and ^acame to Capernaum looking for Jesus. 25 And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they asked Him, “^aRabbi, when did You get here?”

26 Jesus answered, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, you have been ^asearching for Me, not because you saw the ^bsigns (attesting miracles) , but because you ate the loaves and were filled. 27 Do not ^awork for food that perishes, but for food that endures and leads to ^beternal life, which ^cthe Son of Man will give you; for God the Father ^dhas authorized Him and put His seal on Him.” 28 Then they asked Him, “What are we to do, so that we may habitually be doing the works of God?” 29 Jesus answered, “This is ^athe work of God: that you believe adhere to, trust in, rely on, and have faith in the One whom He ^bhas sent.” 30 So they said to Him, “^aWhat ^bsign (attesting miracle) will You do that we may see it and believe You? What supernatural work will You do as proof? 31 ^aOur fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written in Scripture, ‘^bHE GAVE THEM BREAD OUT OF HEAVEN TO EAT.’” Ex 16:15; Neh 9:15; Ps 78:24 32 Then Jesus said to them, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true ¹bread out of heaven. 33 For the Bread of God is He who ^acomes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.” 34 Then they said to Him, “Lord, always ^agive us this bread.”

35 Jesus replied to them, “^1aI am the Bread of Life. The one who comes to Me will never be hungry, and the one who believes in Me as Savior ^bwill never be thirsty for that one will be sustained spiritually. 36 But as ^aI told you, you have seen Me and still you do not believe. 37 ^aAll that My Father gives Me will come to Me; and the one who comes to Me I will most certainly not cast out I will never, never reject anyone who follows Me. 38 For ^aI have come down from heaven, ^bnot to do My own will, but to do ^cthe will of Him who ^dsent Me. 39 This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of ^aall that He has given Me I ^blose nothing, but that I give new life and ^craise it up at the last day. 40 For this is My Father’s will and purpose, that everyone who ^asees the Son and ^bbelieves in Him as Savior will have eternal life, and I will ^craise him up from the dead on the last day.”

41 ^aNow the Jews murmured and found fault with Him because He said, “I am the Bread that ^bcame down out of heaven.” 42 They kept saying, “^aIs this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother ^bwe know? How does He now have the arrogance to say, ‘^cI have come down out of heaven’?” 43 So Jesus answered, “Stop murmuring among yourselves. 44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me ^adraws him giving him the desire to come to Me; and I will ^braise him up from the dead on the last day. 45 It is written ^ain the prophets, ‘^bAND THEY WILL ALL BE ^cTAUGHT OF GOD.’ Everyone who has listened to and learned from the Father, comes to Me. Is 54:13 46 ^aNot that anyone has seen the Father, except He who was with the Father and who is from God; He alone has seen the Father. 47 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, he who believes in Me as Savior—whoever adheres to, trusts in, relies on, and has faith in Me—already ^ahas eternal life that is, now possesses it. 48 ^aI am the Bread of Life the Living Bread which gives and sustains life. 49 ^aYour fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50 This is the Bread that ^acomes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and ^bnot die. 51 ^aI am the Living Bread that ^bcame down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this Bread believes in Me, accepts Me as Savior, ^che will live forever. And the Bread that I will give ^dfor the life of the world is ^eMy flesh (body) .”

52 ^aThen the Jews ^bbegan to argue with one another, saying, “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?” 53 And Jesus said to them, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, unless you eat the flesh of ^athe Son of Man and drink His blood unless you believe in Me as Savior and believe in the saving power of My blood which will be shed for you, you do not have life in yourselves. 54 The one who eats My flesh and drinks My blood believes in Me, accepts Me as Savior has eternal life that is, now possesses it, and I will ^araise him up from the dead on the last day. 55 For My flesh is true spiritual food, and My blood is true spiritual drink. 56 He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood believes in Me, accepts Me as Savior ^aremains in Me, and I in the same way remain in him. 57 Just as the ^aliving Father ^bsent Me, and I live because of the Father, even so the one who feeds on Me believes in Me, accepts Me as Savior will also live because of Me. 58 This is the Bread which ^acame down out of heaven. It is not like the manna that ^bour fathers ate and they eventually died; the one who eats this Bread believes in Me, accepts Me as Savior ^cwill live forever.”

59 He said these things ^ain a synagogue while He was teaching ^bin Capernaum.

60 When many of His ^adisciples heard this, they said, “^bThis is a difficult and harsh and offensive statement. Who can be expected to listen to it?” 61 But Jesus, ^aaware that His disciples were complaining about it, asked them, “Does this cause you to ^bstumble and take offense? 62 What then will you think if you see ^athe Son of Man ^bascending to the realm where He was before? 63 ^aIt is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh conveys no benefit it is of no account. ^bThe words I have spoken to you are spirit and life providing eternal life. 64 But still there are ^asome of you who do not believe and have faith.” For Jesus ^bknew from the beginning who did not believe, and ^cwho would betray Him. 65 And He was saying, “This is the reason why I have ^atold you that no one can come to Me unless ^bit has been granted him that is, unless he is enabled to do so by the Father.”

66 As a result of this ¹many of His ^adisciples ^babandoned Him, and no longer walked with Him. 67 So Jesus said to ^athe twelve disciples, “You do not want to leave too, do you?” 68 ^aSimon Peter answered, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You alone have the ^bwords of eternal life you are our only hope. 69 We have believed and confidently trusted, and even more we have come to know by personal observation and experience that You are ^athe Holy One of God the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 70 Jesus answered them, “^aDid I not choose you, ^bthe twelve disciples? And yet one of you is ^ca devil (ally of Satan) .” 71 Now He was speaking of Judas, ^athe son of Simon Iscariot; for he, ^bone of ^cthe twelve disciples, was about to betray Him.
