^aEntonces Jesús, seis días antes de la Pascua^b, vino a Betania donde estaba Lázaro¹, al que Jesús había resucitado de entre los muertos^c. 2 Y¹ le hicieron una cena allí, y Marta^a servía; pero Lázaro era uno de los que estaban² a la mesa con Él. 3 Entonces María, tomando una libra de perfume de nardo puro^a que costaba mucho, ungió los pies de Jesús, y se los secó¹ con los cabellos^b, y la casa se llenó con la fragancia del perfume. 4 Y Judas Iscariote, uno de sus discípulos, el que le iba a entregar^1a, dijo*: 5 ¿Por qué no se vendió este perfume por trescientos denarios¹ y se dio a los pobres? 6 Pero dijo esto, no porque se preocupara por los pobres, sino porque era un ladrón, y como tenía la bolsa del dinero^a, sustraía de lo que se echaba en ella^b. 7 Entonces Jesús dijo: Déjala, para que lo guarde para el día de mi sepultura^1a. 8 Porque a los pobres siempre los tendréis¹ con vosotros; pero a mí no siempre me tendréis^2a.

9 Entonces la gran multitud de judíos^a se enteró de que Jesús estaba allí; y vinieron nosolo por causa de Jesús, sino también por ver a Lázaro, a quien había resucitado de entre los muertos^b. 10 Pero los principales sacerdotes resolvieron matar también a Lázaro; 11 porque por causa de él^a muchos de los judíos se apartaban y creían en Jesús^b.

12 Al día siguiente, ^acuando la gran multitud que había venido a la fiesta^b, oyó que Jesús venía a Jerusalén, 13 tomaron hojas de las palmas y salieron a recibirle, y gritaban: ¡Hosanna! BENDITO EL QUE VIENE EN EL NOMBRE DEL SEÑOR^a, el Rey de Israel^b. 14 Jesús, hallando un asnillo, se montó en él; como está escrito: 15 NO TEMAS, HIJA DE SIÓN; HE AQUÍ, TU REY VIENE, MONTADO EN UN POLLINO DE ASNA^a. 16 Sus discípulos no entendieron esto al principio^a, pero después, cuando Jesús fue glorificado^b, entonces se acordaron de que esto se había escrito de Él, y de que le habían hecho estas cosas. 17 Y así, la multitud que estaba con Él cuando llamó a Lázaro del sepulcro y lo resucitó de entre los muertos^a, daba testimonio de Él. 18 Por eso la multitud fue también a recibirle^a, porque habían oído que Él había hecho esta señal^1b. 19 Entonces los fariseos se decían unos a otros: ¿Veis que no conseguís nada? Mirad, todo el mundo se ha ido tras Él.

20 Y había unos griegos^a entre los que subían a adorar en la fiesta^b; 21 estos, pues, fueron a Felipe^a, que era de Betsaida^b de Galilea, y le rogaban, diciendo: Señor, queremos ver a Jesús. 22 Felipe fue* y se lo dijo* a Andrés^a; Andrés y Felipe fueron* y se lo dijeron* a Jesús. 23 Jesús les respondió*, diciendo: Ha llegado la hora^a para que el Hijo del Hombre sea glorificado^b. 24 En verdad, en verdad os digo que si el grano de trigo no cae en tierra y muere, se queda solo; pero si muere, produce mucho fruto^a. 25 El que ama su vida¹ la pierde; y el que aborrece su vida^2a en este mundo, la conservará^b para vida eterna. 26 Si alguno me sirve, que me siga; y donde yo estoy, allí también estará mi servidor^a; si alguno me sirve, el Padre lo honrará^b.

27 Ahora mi alma se ha angustiado^a; y ¿qué diré: «Padre^b, sálvame de esta hora^c»? Pero para esto he llegado a esta hora. 28 Padre^a, glorifica tu nombre. Entonces vino una voz del cielo^b: Y le he glorificado, y de nuevo le glorificaré. 29 Por eso la multitud que estaba allí y la oyó, decía que había sido un trueno; otros decían: Un ángel le ha hablado^a. 30 Respondió Jesús y dijo: Esta voz no ha venido por causa mía, sino por causa de vosotros^a. 31 Ya está aquí¹ el juicio de este mundo^a; ahora el príncipe de este mundo^b será echado fuera. 32 Y yo, si soy levantado de la tierra^a, atraeré a todos a mí mismo^b. 33 Pero Él decía esto para indicar de qué clase de muerte iba a morir^a. 34 Entonces la multitud le respondió: Hemos oído en¹ la ley^a que el Cristo² permanecerá para siempre^b; ¿y cómo dices tú: «El Hijo del Hombre^c tiene que ser levantado^d»? ¿Quién es este Hijo del Hombre? 35 Jesús entonces les dijo: Todavía, por un poco de tiempo, la luz estará¹ entre vosotros^a. Caminad mientras tenéis la luz^b, para que no os sorprendan las tinieblas^c; el que anda en la oscuridad no sabe adónde va^d. 36 Mientras tenéis la luz, creed en la luz^a, para que seais hijos de la luz^b.

Estas cosas habló Jesús, y se fue y se ocultó¹ de ellos^c. 37 Pero aunque había hecho tantas señales¹ delante de ellos, no creían en Él, 38 para que se cumpliera la palabra del profeta Isaías, que dijo: SEÑOR, ¿QUIÉN HA CREÍDO A NUESTRO ANUNCIO? ¿Y A QUIÉN SE HA REVELADO EL BRAZO¹ DEL SEÑOR^a? 39 Por eso no podían creer, porque Isaías dijo también¹: 40 EL HA CEGADO SUS OJOS Y ENDURECIDO SU CORAZÓN^a, PARA QUE NO VEAN CON LOS OJOS Y ENTIENDAN CON EL CORAZÓN, Y SE CONVIERTAN Y YO LOS SANE^b. 41 Esto dijo Isaías porque vio su gloria^a, y habló de Él^b. 42 Sin embargo, muchos, aun de los gobernantes^a, creyeron en Él^b, pero por causa de los fariseos^c no lo confesaban, para no ser expulsados de la sinagoga^d. 43 Porque amaban más el reconocimiento¹ de los hombres que el reconocimiento² de Dios^a.

44 Jesús exclamó y dijo: El que cree en mí, no cree en mí, sino en aquel que me ha enviado^a. 45 Y el que me ve, ve al que me ha enviado^a. 46 Yo, la luz, he venido al mundo, para que todo el que cree en mí no permanezca en tinieblas^a. 47 Si alguno oye mis palabras y no las guarda, yo no lo juzgo; porque no vine a juzgar al mundo, sino a salvar al mundo^a. 48 El que me rechaza^a y no recibe mis palabras, tiene quien lo juzgue; la palabra que he hablado^b,esa lo juzgará en el día final^c. 49 Porque yo no he hablado por mi propia cuenta^1a, sino que el Padre mismo que me ha enviado me ha dado mandamiento^b sobre lo que he de decir y lo que he de hablar. 50 Y sé que su mandamiento es vida eterna^a; por eso lo que hablo, lo hablo tal como el Padre me lo ha dicho^b.

^aTherefore, six days before ^bthe Passover, Jesus came to ^cBethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 So they made Him a dinner there, and ^aMartha was serving; and Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with Him. 3 ^aMary then took a ¹pound of very expensive ^bperfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. 4 But ^aJudas Iscariot, one of His disciples, the one who intended to ¹betray Him, *said, 5 “Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred ¹denarii and the proceeds given to poor people?” 6 Now he said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he ^akept the money box, he used to ¹steal from ^bwhat was put into it. 7 Therefore Jesus said, “Leave her alone, so that she may keep it ¹for ^athe day of My burial. 8 ^aFor you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me.”

9 The ^alarge crowd of the Jews then learned that He was there; and they came, not on account of Jesus only, but so that they might also see Lazarus, ^bwhom He raised from the dead. 10 But the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death also, 11 because ^aon account of him ^bmany of the Jews were going away and were believing in Jesus.

12 On the next day, when ^athe large crowd that had come to ^bthe feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 they took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began shouting, “^aHosanna! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, indeed, the ^bKing of Israel!” 14 Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written: 15 “^aDO NOT FEAR, DAUGHTER OF ZION; BEHOLD, YOUR KING IS COMING, SEATED ON A DONKEY’S COLT.” 16 ^aThese things His disciples did not understand at the first; but when Jesus ^bwas glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of Him, and that they had done these things for Him. 17 So ^athe ¹people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to testify about Him. 18 ^aFor this reason also the ¹people went to meet Him, ^bbecause they heard that He had performed this ²sign. 19 So the Pharisees said ¹to one another, “You see that you are not accomplishing anything; look, the world has gone after Him!”

20 Now there were some ^aGreeks among those who were going up to worship at ^bthe feast; 21 these people then came to ^aPhilip, who was from ^bBethsaida of Galilee, and were making a request of him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” 22 Philip *came and *told ^aAndrew; then Andrew and Philip *came and *told Jesus. 23 But Jesus *answered them by saying, “^aThe hour has come for the Son of Man to ^bbe glorified. 24 Truly, truly I say to you, ^aunless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. 25 ^aThe one who loves his ¹life loses it, and the one who ^bhates his ²life in this world will keep it ³to eternal life. 26 If anyone ¹serves Me, he must follow Me; and ^awhere I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone ²serves Me, the Father will ^bhonor him.

27 “^aNow My soul has become troubled; and what am I to say? ‘^bFather, save Me from ^cthis hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour. 28 ^aFather, glorify Your name.” Then a ^bvoice came out of heaven: “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.” 29 So the crowd who stood by and heard it were saying that it had thundered; others were saying, “^aAn angel has spoken to Him!” 30 Jesus responded and said, “^aThis voice has not come for My sake, but for yours. 31 ^aNow judgment is upon this world; now ^bthe ruler of this world will be cast out. 32 And I, if I ^aam lifted up from the earth, will ^bdraw all people to Myself.” 33 Now He was saying this ^ato indicate what kind of death He was going to die. 34 The crowd then answered Him, “We have heard from ^athe Law that ^bthe ¹Christ is to remain forever; and how is it that You say, ‘The ^cSon of Man must be ^dlifted up’? Who is this ^eSon of Man?” 35 So Jesus said to them, “^aFor a little while longer ^bthe Light is among you. ^cWalk while you have the Light, so that darkness will not overtake you; also, the one who ^dwalks in the darkness does not know where he is going. 36 While you have the Light, ^abelieve in the Light, so that you may become ^bsons of Light.”

These things Jesus proclaimed, and He went away and ^chid Himself from them. 37 But though He had performed so many ¹signs in their sight, they still were not believing in Him. 38 This happened so that the word of Isaiah the prophet which he spoke would be fulfilled: “^aLORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT? AND TO WHOM HAS THE ARM OF THE LORD BEEN REVEALED?” 39 For this reason they could not believe, for Isaiah said again, 40 “^aHE HAS BLINDED THEIR EYES AND HE ^bHARDENED THEIR HEART, SO THAT THEY WILL NOT SEE WITH THEIR EYES AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART, AND ¹BE CONVERTED, AND SO I WILL NOT HEAL THEM.” 41 These things Isaiah said because ^ahe saw His glory, and ^bhe spoke about Him. 42 Nevertheless ^amany, even of ^bthe rulers, believed in Him, but ^cbecause of the Pharisees they were not confessing Him, so that they would not be ^dexcommunicated from the synagogue; 43 ^afor they loved the ¹approval of people rather than the ²approval of God.

44 Now Jesus cried out and said, “^aThe one who believes in Me, does not believe only in Me, but also in Him who sent Me. 45 And ^athe one who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. 46 ^aI have come as Light into the world, so that no one who believes in Me will remain in darkness. 47 If anyone hears My ¹teachings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for ^aI did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 ^aThe one who rejects Me and does not ¹accept My ²teachings has one who judges him: ^bthe word which I spoke. That will judge him on ^cthe last day. 49 ^aFor I did not speak ¹on My own, but the Father Himself who sent Me ^bhas given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. 50 And I know that ^aHis commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak ^bjust as the Father has told Me.”

Who is this ^eSon of Man?” 35 So Jesus said to them, “^aFor a little while longer ^bthe Light is among you. ^cWalk while you have the Light, so that darkness will not overtake you; he who ^dwalks in the darkness does not know where he goes. 36 While you have the Light, ^abelieve in the Light, so that you may become ^bsons of Light.”

44 And Jesus cried out and said, “^aHe who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me. 45 ^aHe who sees Me sees the One who sent Me. 46 ^aI have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness. 47 If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for ^aI did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 ^aHe who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; ^bthe word I spoke is what will judge him at ^cthe last day. 49 ^aFor I did not speak ¹on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me ^bhas given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. 50 I know that ^aHis commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak ^bjust as the Father has told Me.”

^aSix days before ^bthe Passover, Jesus went to ^cBethany, where Lazarus was, whom He had raised from the dead. 9 A ^alarge crowd of Jews learned that He was there at Bethany; and they came, not only because of Jesus, but also to see Lazarus, ^bwhom He had raised from the dead. 10 So the chief priests planned to kill Lazarus also, 11 because ^aon account of him ^bmany of the Jews were going away from the teaching and traditions of the Jewish leaders and believing in Jesus following Him as Savior and Messiah.

12 The next day, when ^athe large crowd who had come to ^bthe Passover feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, Matt 21:4-9; Mark 11:7-10; Luke 19:35-38 13 they took branches of palm trees in homage to Him as King and went out to meet Him, and they began shouting and kept shouting “^aHosanna! BLESSED (celebrated, praised) IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, even the ^bKing of Israel!” Ps 118:26 14 And Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; just as it is written in Scripture, 15 “^aDO NOT FEAR, DAUGHTER OF ZION; BEHOLD, YOUR KING IS COMING, SEATED ON A DONKEY’S COLT.” Zech 9:9 16 ^aHis disciples did not understand the meaning of these things at first; but when Jesus ^bwas glorified and exalted, they remembered that these things had been written about Him and had been done to Him. 17 So ^athe people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to tell others about Him. 18 For ^athis reason the crowd went to meet Him, ^bbecause they heard that He had performed this miraculous sign. 19 Then the Pharisees argued and said to one another, “You see that your efforts are futile. Look! The whole world has gone running after Him!”

20 Now there were some ^aGreeks (Gentiles) among those who were going up to worship at ^bthe feast; 21 these came to ^aPhilip, who was from ^bBethsaida in Galilee, with a request, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” 22 Philip came and told ^aAndrew; then Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. 23 And Jesus answered them, “^aThe hour has come for the Son of Man to ^bbe glorified and exalted. 24 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, ^aunless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone just one grain, never more. But if it dies, it produces much grain and yields a harvest. 25 ^aThe one who loves his life eventually loses it through death, but the one who ^bhates his life in this world and is concerned with pleasing God will keep it for life eternal. 26 If anyone serves Me, he must continue to faithfully follow Me without hesitation, holding steadfastly to Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me; and ^awherever I am in heaven’s glory, there will My servant be also. If anyone serves Me, the Father will ^bhonor him.

27 “^aNow My soul is troubled and deeply distressed; what shall I say? ‘^bFather, save Me from ^cthis hour of trial and agony’? But it is for this very purpose that I have come to this hour this time and place. 28 Rather, I will say, ‘^aFather, glorify (honor, extol) Your name!’” Then a ^1bvoice came from heaven saying, “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.” 29 The crowd of people who stood nearby and heard the voice said that it had thundered; others said, “^aAn angel has spoken to Him!” 30 Jesus answered, “^aThis voice has come for your sake, not for mine. 31 ^aNow judgment is upon this world the sentence is being passed. Now ^bthe ruler of this world (Satan) will be cast out. 32 And I, if and when I ^aam lifted up from the earth on the cross, will ^bdraw all people to Myself Gentiles, as well as Jews.” 33 He said this ^ato indicate the kind of death by which He was to die. 34 At this the crowd answered Him, “¹We have heard from ^athe Law that ^bthe Christ is to remain forever; how then can You say, ‘The ^cSon of Man must be ^dlifted up’? Who is this Son of Man?” Ps 110:4 35 So Jesus said to them, “^aThe Light is among you only ^ba little while longer. ^cWalk while you have the Light keep on living by it, so that darkness will not overtake you. He who ^dwalks in the darkness does not know where he is going he is drifting aimlessly. 36 While you have the Light, ^abelieve and trust in the Light have faith in it, hold on to it, rely on it, so that you may become ^bsons of Light being filled with Light as followers of God.”

Jesus said these things, and then He left and ^chid Himself from them. 37 Even though He had done so many signs (attesting miracles) right before them, yet they still did not believe and failed to trust Him— 38 This was to fulfill what Isaiah the prophet said: “^aLORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR MESSAGE?
