Entonces el SEÑOR dijo a Moisés: Anda, sube de aquí, tú y el pueblo que has sacado de la tierra de Egipto, a la tierra de la cual juré a Abraham, a Isaac y a Jacob^a, diciendo: «A tu descendencia¹ la daré^b». 2 Y enviaré un ángel delante de ti^a, y echaré fuera al cananeo, al amorreo, al hitita, al ferezeo, al heveo y al jebuseo^b. 3 Sube a una tierra que mana leche y miel^a; pues yo no subiré en medio de ti, oh Israel, no sea que te destruya en el camino^b, porque eres un pueblo de dura cerviz^c. 4 Cuando el pueblo oyó esta mala noticia¹, hicieron duelo^a, y ninguno de ellos se puso sus atavíos. 5 Porque el SEÑOR había dicho a Moisés: Di a los hijos de Israel: «Sois un pueblo de dura cerviz^a; si por un momento yo me presentara¹ en medio de ti, te destruiría. Ahora pues, quítate tus atavíos, para que yo sepa qué he de hacer contigo». 6 Y a partir del monte Horeb los hijos de Israel se despojaron de sus atavíos.

7 Y acostumbraba Moisés tomar la tienda^a, y la levantaba fuera del campamento a buena distancia de él¹, y la llamó la tienda de reunión^b. Y sucedía que todo el que buscaba al SEÑOR salía a la tienda de reunión, que estaba fuera del campamento. 8 Y sucedía que cuando Moisés salía a la tienda, todo el pueblo se levantaba y permanecía de pie, cada uno a la entrada de su tienda, y seguía con la vista a Moisés hasta que él entraba en la tienda. 9 Y¹ cuando Moisés entraba en la tienda, la columna de nube^a descendía y permanecía a la entrada de la tienda, y el SEÑOR hablaba con Moisés^b. 10 Cuando todo el pueblo veía la columna de nube situada a la entrada de la tienda de reunión todos se levantaban y adoraban, cada cual a la entrada de su tienda. 11 Y acostumbraba hablar el SEÑOR con Moisés cara a cara^a, como habla un hombre con su amigo. Cuando Moisés regresaba al campamento, su joven ayudante Josué^b, hijo de Nun, no se apartaba de la tienda.

12 Y Moisés dijo al SEÑOR: Mira, tú me dices: «Haz subir a este pueblo^a»; pero tú no me has declarado a quién enviarás conmigo^b. Además has dicho: «Te he conocido por tu nombre, y también has hallado gracia ante mis ojos^c». 13 Ahora pues, si he hallado gracia ante tus ojos, te ruego que me hagas conocer tus caminos para que yo te conozca y halle gracia ante tus ojos^a. Considera también que esta nación es tu pueblo^b. 14 Y Él respondió: Mi presencia irá contigo^a, y yo te daré descanso^b. 15 Entonces le dijo Moisés: Si tu presencia no va con nosotros, no nos hagas partir¹ de aquí^a. 16 ¿Pues en qué se conocerá que he hallado gracia ante tus ojos, yo y tu pueblo? ¿No es acaso en que tú vayas con nosotros, para que nosotros, yo y tu pueblo, nos distingamos de todos los demás pueblos que están sobre la faz de la tierra^a?

17 Y el SEÑOR dijo a Moisés: También haré esto que has hablado, por cuanto has hallado gracia ante mis ojos y te he conocido por tu nombre^a. 18 Entonces Moisés dijo: Te ruego que me muestres tu gloria^a. 19 Y Él respondió: Yo haré pasar toda mi bondad delante de ti, y proclamaré el nombre del SEÑOR delante de ti^a; y tendré misericordia del que tendré misericordia, y tendré compasión de quien tendré compasión^b. 20 Y añadió: No puedes ver mi rostro; porque nadie puede verme, y vivir^a. 21 Entonces el SEÑOR dijo: He aquí, hay un lugar junto a mí¹, y tú estarás sobre la peña^a; 22 y sucederá que al pasar mi gloria, te pondré en una hendidura de la peña y te cubriré con mi mano¹ hasta que yo haya pasado^a. 23 Después apartaré mi mano¹ y verás mis espaldas; pero no se verá mi rostro^a.

Then the LORD spoke to Moses, “Depart, go up from here, you and the people whom you have brought up from the land of Egypt, to the land of which ^aI swore to Abraham, ^bIsaac, and ^cJacob, saying, ‘^dTo your ¹descendants I will give it.’ 2 And I will send ^aan angel before you and ^bI will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite. 3 Go up to a land ^aflowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in your midst, because you are ^1ban obstinate people, and ^cI might destroy you on the way.”

4 When the people heard this ¹sad word, ^athey went into mourning, and none of them put on his jewelry. 5 For the LORD had said to Moses, “Say to the sons of Israel, ‘You are ^1aan obstinate people; if I ²were to go up in your midst for just one moment, I would destroy you. So now, take off your ³jewelry that I may know what I shall do to you.’” 6 So the sons of Israel stripped themselves of their jewelry, from Mount Horeb onward.

7 Now Moses used to take ^athe tent and pitch it outside the camp, a good distance from the camp, and he called it the tent of meeting. And ^beveryone who sought the LORD would go out to the tent of meeting which was outside the camp. 8 And it came about, whenever Moses went out to the tent, that all the people would arise and stand, each at the entrance of his tent, and gaze after Moses until he entered the tent. 9 Whenever Moses entered the tent, ^athe pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent; ^band ¹the LORD would speak with Moses. 10 When all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, all the people would stand and worship, each at the entrance of his tent. 11 So ^athe LORD used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend. When ¹Moses returned to the camp, ^bhis servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent.

12 Then Moses said to the LORD, “See, You say to me, ‘^aBring up this people!’ But You Yourself have not let me know ^bwhom You will send with me. ^cMoreover, You have said, ‘I have known you by name, and you have also found favor in My sight.’ 13 Now then, if I have found favor in Your sight in any way, please ^alet me know Your ways so that I may know You, in order that I may find favor in Your sight. ^bConsider too, that this nation is Your people.” 14 And He said, “^aMy presence shall go with you, and ^bI will give you rest.” 15 Then he said to Him, “^aIf Your presence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here. 16 For how then can it be known that I have found favor in Your sight, I and Your people? Is it not by Your going with us, so that ^awe, I and Your people, may be distinguished from all the other people who are on the face of the ¹earth?”

17 The LORD said to Moses, “I will also do this thing of which you have spoken; ^afor you have found favor in My sight and I have known you by name.” 18 ^aThen Moses said, “Please, show me Your glory!” 19 And He said, “^aI Myself will make all My goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the LORD before you; and ^bI will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion to whom I will show compassion.” 20 He further said, “You cannot see My face, ^afor mankind shall not see Me and live!” 21 Then the LORD said, “Behold, there is a place ¹by Me, and ^ayou shall stand there on the rock; 22 and it will come about, while My glory is passing by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock and ^acover you with My hand until I have passed by. 23 Then I will take My hand away and you shall see My back, but ^aMy face shall not be seen.”

Is it not by Your going with us, so that ^awe, I and Your people, may be distinguished from all the other people who are upon the face of the ¹earth?”

17 The LORD said to Moses, “I will also do this thing of which you have spoken; ^afor you have found favor in My sight and I have known you by name.” 18 ^aThen ¹Moses said, “I pray You, show me Your glory!” 19 And He said, “^aI Myself will make all My goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the LORD before you; and ^bI will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will show compassion.” 20 But He said, “You cannot see My face, ^afor no man can see Me and live!” 21 Then the LORD said, “Behold, there is a place ¹by Me, and ^ayou shall stand there on the rock; 22 and it will come about, while My glory is passing by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock and ^acover you with My hand until I have passed by. 23 Then I will take My hand away and you shall see My back, but ^aMy face shall not be seen.”

Ex 23:23; 34:11 3 Go up to a land of abundance ^1aflowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in your midst, because you are a ^bstiff-necked (stubborn, rebellious) people, and ^cI might destroy you on the way.”

4 When the people heard this sad word, ^athey mourned, and none of them put on his ornaments. 5 For the LORD had said to Moses, “Say to the sons of Israel, ‘You are ^aa stiff-necked (stubborn, rebellious) people! If I should come among you for one moment, I would destroy you. Now therefore, penitently take off your ornaments, so that I may know what to do with you.’” 6 So the Israelites left off all their ornaments in repentance, from Mount Horeb (Sinai) onward.

7 Now Moses used to take his own ^atent and pitch it outside the camp, far away from the camp, and he called it the tent of meeting of God with His own people. And ^beveryone who sought the LORD would go out to the temporary tent of meeting which was outside the camp. 8 Whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people would rise and stand, each at his tent door, and look at Moses until he entered the tent. 9 Whenever Moses entered the tent, ^athe pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the doorway of the tent; ^band the LORD would speak with Moses. 10 When all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the tent door, all the people would rise and worship, each at his tent door. 11 And so ^athe LORD used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses returned to the camp, ^bhis attendant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent.

12 Moses said to the LORD, “See, You say to me, ‘^aBring up this people,’ but You have not let me know ^bwhom You will send with me. ^cYet You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favor in My sight.’ 13 Now therefore, I pray you, if I have found favor in Your sight, ^alet me know Your ways so that I may know You becoming more deeply and intimately acquainted with You, recognizing and understanding Your ways more clearly and that I may find grace and favor in Your sight. ^bAnd consider also, that this nation is Your people.” 14 And the LORD said, “^aMy presence shall go with you, and ^bI will give you rest by bringing you and the people into the promised land.” Deut 3:20 15 And Moses said to Him, “^aIf Your presence does not go with me, do not lead us up from here. 16 For how then can it be known that Your people and I have found favor in Your sight? Is it not by Your going with us, so that ^awe are distinguished, Your people and I, from all the other people on the face of the earth?”

17 The LORD said to Moses, “I will also do this thing that you have asked; ^afor you have found favor (lovingkindness, mercy) in My sight and I have known you personally by name.” Rev 2:17 18 ^aThen Moses said, “Please, show me Your glory!” 19 And God said, “^aI will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the Name of the LORD before you; for ^bI will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion (lovingkindness) on whom I will show compassion.” Rom 9:15, 16 20 But He said, “You cannot see My face, ^afor no man shall see Me and live!” 21 Then the LORD said, “Behold, there is a place beside Me, and ^ayou shall stand there on the rock; 22 and while My glory is passing by, I will put you in a cleft of the rock and protectively ^acover you with My hand until I have passed by. 23 Then I will take away My hand and you shall see My back; but ^aMy face shall not be seen.”
