Por aquel tiempo el rey Herodes¹ echó mano a algunos que pertenecían a la iglesia para maltratarlos. 2 E hizo matar^a a espada a Jacobo¹, el hermano de Juan^b. 3 Y viendo que esto agradaba a los judíos^a, hizo arrestar también a Pedro. Esto sucedió durante los días¹ de los panes sin levadura^2b. 4 Y habiéndolo tomado preso, lo puso en la cárcel, entregándolo a cuatro piquetes¹ de soldados^a para que lo guardaran, con la intención de llevarlo ante el pueblo después de la Pascua^b. 5 Así pues, Pedro era custodiado en la cárcel, pero la iglesia hacía oración ferviente a Dios por él. 6 Y esa noche, cuando Herodes estaba a punto de sacarlo, Pedro estaba durmiendo entre dos soldados, sujeto con dos cadenas^a; y unos guardias delante de la puerta custodiaban la cárcel. 7 Y he aquí, se le apareció^a un ángel del Señor^b, y una luz brilló en la celda; y el ángel tocó a Pedro en el costado, y lo despertó diciendo: Levántate pronto. Y las cadenas cayeron de sus manos^c. 8 Y el ángel le dijo: Vístete y ponte¹ las sandalias. Y así lo hizo. Y le dijo* el ángel: Envuélvete en tu manto y sígueme. 9 Y saliendo, lo seguía, y no sabía que lo que hacía el ángel era de verdad, sino que creía ver una visión^a. 10 Cuando habían pasado la primera y la segunda guardia, llegaron a la puerta de hierro que conduce a la ciudad, la cual se les abrió^a por sí misma; y salieron y siguieron por una calle, y enseguida el ángel se apartó de él. 11 Cuando Pedro volvió en sí^a, dijo: Ahora sé en verdad que el Señor ha enviado a su ángel, y me ha rescatado^b de la mano de Herodes y de todo lo que esperaba el pueblo de los judíos. 12 Al darse cuenta de esto, fue a la casa de María, la madre de Juan, llamado también Marcos^a, donde muchos estaban reunidos y oraban^b. 13 Y cuando llamó a la puerta de la entrada, una sirvienta^a llamada Rode salió a ver quién era¹. 14 Al reconocer la voz de Pedro, de alegría^a no abrió la puerta, sino que corrió adentro y anunció que Pedro estaba a la puerta. 15 Y ellos le dijeron: ¡Estás loca! Pero ella insistía en que así era. Y ellos decían: Es su ángel^a. 16 Mas Pedro continuaba llamando; y cuando ellos abrieron, lo vieron y se asombraron. 17 Y haciéndoles señal con la mano^a para que guardaran silencio, les contó cómo el Señor lo había sacado de la cárcel. Y les dijo: Informad de estas cosas a Jacobo^1b y a los hermanos^c. Entonces salió, y se fue a otro lugar.

18 Cuando se hizo de día, hubo un alboroto no pequeño entre los soldados sobre qué¹ habría sido de Pedro. 19 Y Herodes, después de buscarlo y no encontrarlo, interrogó a los guardias y ordenó que los llevaran para ejecutarlos^a. Después descendió de Judea a Cesarea^b, y se quedó allí por un tiempo.

20 Herodes estaba muy enojado con los de Tiro y de Sidón^a; pero ellos, de común acuerdo se presentaron ante él, y habiéndose ganado a Blasto, camarero del rey, pedían paz pues su territorio era abastecido por el del rey^b. 21 El día señalado, Herodes, vestido con ropa real, se sentó en la tribuna¹ y les arengaba. 22 Y la gente gritaba: ¡Voz de un dios y no de un hombre esesta! 23 Al instante un ángel del Señor^a lo hirió, por no haber dado la gloria a Dios; y murió¹ comido de gusanos.

24 Pero la palabra del Señor crecía y se multiplicaba^a.

25 Y Bernabé y Saulo^a regresaron de¹ Jerusalén después de haber cumplido su misión^2b, llevando consigo a Juan, llamado también Marcos^c.

Now about that time ¹Herod the king laid hands on some who belonged to the church, to do them harm. 2 And he ^ahad James the brother of John ^bexecuted with a sword. 3 When he saw that it ^apleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter as well. (Now these were ^1bthe days of Unleavened Bread.) 4 When he had arrested him, he put him in prison, turning him over to four ^1asquads of soldiers to guard him, intending only after ^bthe Passover to bring him before the people. 5 So Peter was kept in the prison, but prayer for him was being made to God ¹intensely by the church.

6 On ¹the very night when Herod was about to bring him forward, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, ^abound with two chains, and guards in front of the door were watching over the prison. 7 And behold, ^aan angel of the Lord suddenly ^bstood near Peter, and a light shone in the cell; and he struck Peter’s side and woke him, saying, “Get up quickly.” And ^chis chains fell off his hands. 8 And the angel said to him, “Put on your belt and ¹strap on your sandals.” And he did so. And he *said to him, “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me.” 9 And he went out and continued to follow, and yet he did not know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing ^aa vision. 10 Now when they had passed the first and second guard, they came to the iron gate that leads into the city, which ^aopened for them by itself; and they went out and went along one street, and immediately the angel departed from him. 11 When Peter ^acame ¹to himself, he said, “Now I know for sure that ^bthe Lord has sent forth His angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all ²that the Jewish people were expecting.” 12 And when he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of ^aJohn, who was also called Mark, where many were gathered together and ^bwere praying. 13 When he knocked at the door of the gate, ^aa slave woman named Rhoda came to answer. 14 When she recognized Peter’s voice, ^abecause of her joy she did not open the gate, but ran in and announced that Peter was standing in front of the gate. 15 They said to her, “You are out of your mind!” But she kept insisting that it was so. They said, “It is ^ahis angel.” 16 But Peter continued knocking; and when they had opened the door, they saw him and were amazed. 17 But ^amotioning to them with his hand to be silent, he described to them how the Lord had led him out of the prison. And he said, “Report these things to ^1bJames and ^cthe brothers.” Then he left and went to another place.

18 Now when day came, there was no small disturbance among the soldiers as to ¹what could have become of Peter. 19 When Herod had searched for him and had not found him, he examined the guards and ordered that they ^abe led away to execution. Then he went down from Judea to ^bCaesarea and was spending time there.

20 Now he was very angry with the people of ^aTyre and Sidon; and with one mind they came to him, and having won over Blastus the king’s chamberlain, they were asking for peace, because ^btheir country was supported with grain from the king’s country. 21 On an appointed day, after putting on his royal apparel, Herod took his seat on the ¹rostrum and began delivering an address to them. 22 The people repeatedly cried out, “The voice of a god and not of a man!” 23 And immediately ^aan angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and ¹died.

24 But ^athe word of the Lord continued to grow and to be multiplied.

25 And ^aBarnabas and ^bSaul returned ^cwhen they had fulfilled their ¹mission to Jerusalem, taking along with them ^dJohn, who was also called Mark.

Now at that time ¹Herod Agrippa I the king of the Jews arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to harm them. 2 And he ^ahad James the brother of John ^bput to death with a sword; 3 and when he saw that it ^apleased the Jews, he proceeded to have Peter arrested as well. This was during ^bthe days of Unleavened Bread the Passover week. 4 When he had seized Peter, he put him in prison, turning him over to four ^asquads of soldiers of four each to guard him in rotation throughout the night, planning after ^bthe Passover to bring him out before the people for execution. 5 So Peter was kept in prison, but fervent and persistent prayer for him was being made to God by the church.

6 The very night before Herod was to bring him forward, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, ^abound with two chains, and sentries were in front of the door guarding the prison. 7 Suddenly, ^aan angel of the Lord ^bappeared beside him and a light shone in the cell. The angel struck Peter’s side and awakened him, saying, “Get up quickly!” And ^cthe chains fell off his hands. 8 The angel said to him, “Prepare yourself and strap on your sandals to get ready for whatever may happen.” And he did so. Then the angel told him, “Put on your robe and follow me.” 9 And Peter went out following the angel. He did not realize that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing ^aa vision. 10 When they had passed the first guard and the second, they came to the iron gate that leads into the city. ^aOf its own accord it swung open for them; and they went out and went along one street, and at once the angel left him. 11 When Peter ^acame to his senses, he said, “Now I know for certain that ^bthe Lord has sent His angel and has rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all that the Jewish people were expecting to do to me.” 12 When he realized what had happened, he went to the house of ¹Mary the mother of ^aJohn, who was also called ²Mark, where many believers were gathered together and ^bwere praying continually and had been praying all night. 13 When he knocked at the door of the gateway, ^aa servant-girl named Rhoda came to answer. 14 Recognizing Peter’s voice, ^ain her joy she failed to open the gate, but ran in and announced that Peter was standing in front of the gateway. 15 They said to her, “You are out of your mind!” But she kept insisting that it was so. They kept saying, “It is ^ahis angel!” Matt 18:10; Heb 1:14 16 But meanwhile Peter continued knocking; and when they opened the door and saw him, they were completely amazed. 17 But ^amotioning to them with his hand to be quiet and listen, he described how the Lord had led him out of the prison. And he said, “Report these things to ^1bJames and ^cthe brothers and sisters.” Then he left and went to another place.

18 Now when day came, there was no small disturbance among the soldiers over what had become of Peter. 19 When Herod had searched for him and could not find him, he interrogated the guards and commanded that they ^abe led away to execution. Then he went down from Judea to ^bCaesarea Maritima and spent some time there.

20 Now Herod Agrippa I was ¹extremely angry with the people of ^aTyre and Sidon; and their delegates came to him in a united group, and after persuading Blastus, ²the king’s chamberlain to support their cause, they asked for peace, because ^btheir country was fed by imports of grain and other goods from the king’s country. 21 On an appointed day Herod dressed himself in his ¹royal robes, sat on his throne (tribunal, rostrum) and began delivering a speech to the people. 22 The assembled people kept shouting, “It is the voice of a god and not of a man!” 23 And at once ^aan angel of the Lord struck him down because he did not give God the glory and instead permitted himself to be worshiped, and ¹he was eaten by worms and died five days later.

24 But ^athe word of the Lord the good news about salvation through Christ continued to grow and spread increasing in effectiveness.

25 ^aBarnabas and ^bSaul came back ¹from Jerusalem ^cwhen they had completed their mission, bringing with them ^dJohn, who was also called Mark. Acts 11:28-30
