Más vale el buen nombre que las muchas riquezas^a,y el favor que la plata y el oro.2 El rico y el pobre tienen un lazo común¹:el que hizo a ambos^a es el SEÑOR.3 El prudente ve el mal y se esconde,mas los simples siguen adelante y son castigados^a.4 La recompensa de la humildad y el temor¹ del SEÑORson la riqueza, el honor y la vida.5 Espinos y lazos hay en el camino del perverso^a;el que cuida su alma se alejará de ellos.6 Enseña al niño el camino en que debe andar¹^a,y aun cuando sea viejo no se apartará de él.7 El rico domina a los pobres^a,y el deudor es esclavo del acreedor.8 El que siembra iniquidad^a segará vanidad,y la vara de su furor perecerá^b.9 El generoso¹ será bendito^a,porque da de su pan al pobre^b.10 Echa fuera al escarnecedor y saldrá la discordia,y cesarán también la contienda y la ignominia^a.11 El que ama la pureza de corazón^atiene gracia en sus labios, y el rey es su amigo^b.12 Los ojos del SEÑOR guardan el conocimiento,pero Él confunde las palabras del pérfido.13 El perezoso dice: Hay un león afuera^a;seré muerto en las calles.14 Fosa profunda es la boca de las mujeres extrañas^a;el que es maldito del SEÑOR caerá en ella¹^b.15 La necedad está ligada al corazón del niño;la vara de la disciplina^a la alejará de él.16 El que oprime al pobre^a para engrandecerse,o da al rico,solo llegará a la pobreza^b.

Preceptos y amonestaciones

17 Inclina tu oído y oye las palabras de los sabios^a,y aplica tu corazón a mi conocimiento;18 porque te será agradable si las guardas dentro de ti^a,para que¹ estén listas en tus labios.19 Para que tu confianza esté en el SEÑOR^a,te he instruido¹ hoy a ti también.20 ¿No te he escrito cosas excelentes¹^ade consejo y conocimiento,21 para hacerte saber la certeza¹ de las palabras de verdad^a,a fin de que respondas correctamente² al que te ha enviado^b?

22 No robes al pobre^a, porque es pobre,ni aplastes al afligido^b en la puerta;23 porque el SEÑOR defenderá su causa^a,y quitará la vida¹ de los que los roban.

24 No te asocies con el hombre iracundo;ni andes con el hombre violento^a,25 no sea que aprendas sus maneras^a,y tiendas¹ lazo para tu vida.

26 No estés entre los que dan fianzas¹,entre los que salen de fiadores de préstamos^a.27 Si no tienes con qué pagar,¿por qué han de quitarte la cama de debajo de ti^a?

28 No muevas el lindero antiguoque pusieron tus padres^a.

29 ¿Has visto un hombre diestro en su trabajo?Estará delante¹ de los reyes^a;no estará delante² de hombres sin importancia.

On Life and Conduct

A ^agood name is to be more desired than great wealth;Favor is better than silver and gold.2 The rich and the poor ¹have a common bond,The LORD is the ^aMaker of them all.3 A ^aprudent person sees evil and hides himself,But the naive proceed, and pay the penalty.4 The reward of humility and ¹the fear of the LORDAre riches, honor, and life.5 ^aThorns and snares are in the way of the perverse;One who guards himself will be far from them.6 ^aTrain up a child ¹in the way he should go,Even when he grows older he will not abandon it.7 The ^arich rules over the poor,And the borrower becomes the lender’s slave.8 One who ^asows injustice will reap disaster,And the ^brod of his fury will perish.9 One who ¹is ^agenerous will be blessed,Because he ^bgives some of his food to the poor.10 ^aDrive out the scoffer, and strife will leave,Even quarreling and dishonor will cease.11 One who loves ^apurity of heartAnd ¹whose speech is ^bgracious, the king is his friend.12 The eyes of the LORD protect knowledge,But He overthrows the words of the treacherous person.13 The ¹^alazy one says, “There is a lion outside;I will be killed in the streets!”14 The mouth of ¹^aan adulteress is a deep pit;He who is ^bcursed of the LORD will fall ²into it.15 Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child;The ^arod of discipline will remove it far from him.16 One ^awho oppresses the poor to make ¹more for himself,Or gives to the rich, ^bwill only come to poverty.

17 ^aExtend your ear and hear the words of the wise,And apply your mind to my knowledge;18 For it will be ^apleasant if you keep them within you,¹So that they may be ready on your lips.19 So that your ^atrust may be in the LORD,I have ¹taught you today, you indeed.20 Have I not written to you ¹^aexcellent thingsOf counsels and knowledge,21 To make you ^aknow the ¹certainty of the words of truth,So that you may ²^bcorrectly answer him who sent you?

22 ^aDo not rob the poor because he is poor,Nor ^bcrush the needy at the gate;23 For the LORD will ^aplead their caseAnd ¹take the life of those who rob them.

24 Do not make friends with a person given to anger,Or go with a ^ahot-tempered person,25 Or you will ^alearn his waysAnd ¹find a snare for yourself.

26 Do not be among those who ^ashake hands,Among those who become guarantors for debts.27 If you have nothing with which to repay,Why should he ^atake your bed from under you?

28 ^aDo not move the ancient boundaryWhich your fathers have set.

29 Do you see a person skilled in his work?He will ^astand before kings;He will not stand before obscure people.

On Life and Conduct

A ^agood name earned by honorable behavior, godly wisdom, moral courage, and personal integrity is more desirable than great riches;And favor is better than silver and gold.2 The rich and poor have a common bond;The LORD is the ^aMaker of them all. Job 31:15; Prov 14:313 A ^aprudent and far-sighted person sees the evil of sin and hides himself from it,But the naive continue on and are punished by suffering the consequences of sin.4 The reward of humility that is, having a realistic view of one’s importance and the reverent, worshipful fear of the LORDIs riches, honor, and life. Prov 21:215 ^aThorns and snares are in the way of the obstinate for their lack of honor and their wrong-doing traps them;He who guards himself with godly wisdom will be far from them and avoid the consequences they suffer.6 ^aTrain up a child in the way he should go teaching him to seek God’s wisdom and will for his abilities and talents,Even when he is old he will not depart from it. 17 ^aListen carefully and hear the ¹words of the wise,And apply your mind to my knowledge;18 For it will be ^apleasant if you keep them in mind incorporating them as guiding principles;Let them be ready on your lips to guide and strengthen yourself and others.19 So that your ^atrust and reliance and confidence may be in the LORD,I have taught these things to you today, even to you.20 Have I not written to you ^aexcellent thingsIn counsels and knowledge,21 To let you ^aknow the certainty of the words of truth,That you may give a ^bcorrect answer to him who sent you? Luke 1:3, 4

22 ^aDo not rob the poor because he is poor and defenseless,Nor ^bcrush the afflicted by legal proceedings at the gate where the city court is held, Ex 23:6; Job 31:16, 2123 For the LORD will ^aplead their caseAnd take the life of those who rob them. Zech 7:10; Mal 3:5

24 Do not even associate with a man given to angry outbursts;Or go along with a ^ahot-tempered man,25 Or you will ^alearn his undisciplined waysAnd get yourself trapped in a situation from which it is hard to escape.

26 Do not be among those who ^agive pledges involving themselves in others’ finances,Or among those who become guarantors for others’ debts.27 If you have nothing with which to pay another’s debt when he defaults,Why should his creditor ^atake your bed from under you?

28 ^aDo not move the ancient landmark at the boundary of the propertyWhich your fathers have set.

29 Do you see a man skillful and experienced in his work?He will ^astand in honor before kings;He will not stand before obscure men.
