¹Estas son las palabras del pacto que el SEÑOR mandó a Moisés que hiciera con los hijos de Israel en la tierra de Moab^a, además del pacto que Él había hecho con ellos en Horeb^b.

2 ¹Y convocó Moisés a todo Israel y les dijo: Habéis visto todo lo que el SEÑOR hizo delante de vuestros ojos en la tierra de Egipto a Faraón, a todos sus siervos y a toda su tierra, 3 las grandes pruebas que vieron vuestros¹ ojos, aquellas grandes señales y maravillas^a. 4 Pero hasta el día de hoy el SEÑOR no os ha dado corazón para entender, ni ojos para ver, ni oídos para oír^a. 5 Yo os he conducido durante cuarenta años en el desierto; no se han gastado los vestidos sobre vosotros y no se ha gastado la sandalia en vuestro¹ pie^a. 6 No habéis comido pan ni habéis bebido vino ni sidra^a, para que sepáis que yo soy el SEÑOR vuestro Dios. 7 Cuando llegasteis¹ a este lugar, Sehón, rey de Hesbón, y Og, rey de Basán, salieron a nuestro encuentro para pelear, pero los derrotamos^2a; 8 y tomamos su tierra y la dimos en herencia a los rubenitas, a los gaditas y a la media tribu de Manasés^a. 9 Guardad, pues, las palabras de este pacto y ponedlas en práctica^a, para que prosperéis en todo lo que hagáis^b.

10 Hoy estáis todos vosotros en presencia del SEÑOR vuestro Dios: vuestros jefes¹, vuestras tribus, vuestros ancianos y vuestros oficiales, todos los hombres de Israel, 11 vuestros pequeños, vuestras mujeres, y el forastero que está dentro de tus campamentos, desde tu leñador hasta el que saca tu agua^a, 12 para que entres en el pacto con el SEÑOR tu Dios, y en su juramento que el SEÑOR tu Dios hace hoy contigo, 13 a fin de establecerte hoy como su pueblo y que Él sea tu Dios, tal como te lo ha dicho y como lo juró a tus padres Abraham, Isaac y Jacob^a.

14 Y no hagosolo con vosotros este pacto^a y este juramento, 15 sino también con los que están hoy aquí con nosotros en la presencia del SEÑOR nuestro Dios, y con los que no están hoy aquí con nosotros^a 16 (pues vosotros sabéis cómo habitamos en la tierra de Egipto y cómo pasamos en medio de las naciones por las cuales habéis pasado, 17 además, habéis visto sus abominaciones y los ídolos de madera y de piedra, de plata y de oro^a, que tenían con ellos); 18 no sea que haya entre vosotros hombre o mujer, familia o tribu, cuyo corazón se aleje hoy del SEÑOR nuestro Dios para ir y servir a los dioses de aquellas naciones^a; no sea que haya entre vosotros una raíz que produzca fruto venenoso^b y ajenjo. 19 Y sucederá que cuando él oiga las palabras de esta maldición, se envanecerá¹, diciendo: «Tendré paz aunque ande en la terquedad de mi corazón, a fin de destruir la tierra regada junto con la seca». 20 El SEÑOR jamás querrá perdonarlo, sino que la ira del SEÑOR y su celo arderán^1a contra ese hombre, y toda maldición que está escrita en este libro caerá sobre él, y el SEÑOR borrará su nombre de debajo del cielo^b. 21 Entonces el SEÑOR lo señalará para adversidad¹ de entre todas las tribus de Israel, según todas las maldiciones del pacto que están escritas en este libro de la ley^a.

22 Y la generación venidera, vuestros hijos que se levanten después de vosotros y el extranjero que venga de tierra lejana, cuando vean las plagas de la tierra y las enfermedades con las que el SEÑOR la ha afligido^1a, dirán: 23 «Toda su tierra es azufre, sal y calcinación^a, sin sembrar, nada germina¹ y el pasto no crece en ella, como en la destrucción de Sodoma y Gomorra, de Adma y de Zeboim que el SEÑOR destruyó en su ira y en su furor^b». 24 Y dirán todas las naciones: «¿Por qué ha hecho así el SEÑOR a esta tierra? ¿Por qué esta gran explosión¹ de ira^a?». 25 Y los hombres dirán: «Porque abandonaron el pacto que el SEÑOR, el Dios de sus padres, hizo con ellos cuando los sacó de la tierra de Egipto^a. 26 Y ellos fueron y sirvieron a otros dioses y los adoraron, dioses que no habían conocido y los cuales Él no les había dado¹. 27 Por eso, ardió la ira del SEÑOR contra aquella tierra, para traer sobre ella toda maldición que está escrita en este libro^a; 28 y el SEÑOR los desarraigó de su tierra con ira, con furor y con gran enojo, y los arrojó a otra tierra^a, hasta hoy».

29 Las cosas secretas pertenecen al SEÑOR nuestro Dios^a, mas las cosas reveladas nos pertenecen a nosotros y a nuestros hijos para siempre, a fin de que guardemos todas las palabras de esta ley^b.

2 ¹And Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, “You have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh and all his servants, and to all his land; 3 ^athe great trials which your eyes have seen, those great signs and wonders. 4 Yet to this day ^athe LORD has not given you a heart to know, nor eyes to see, nor ears to hear. 5 And I have led you in the wilderness for forty years; ^ayour clothes have not worn out on you, and your sandal has not worn out on your foot. 6 ^aYou have not eaten bread, nor have you drunk wine or other strong drink, in order that you might know that I am the LORD your God. 7 ^aWhen you ¹reached this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon and Og the king of Bashan came out to meet us for battle, but we ²defeated them; 8 and we took their land and ^agave it as an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of the Manassites. 9 ^aSo you will keep the words of this covenant and do them, ^bin order that you may be successful in everything that you do.

10 “You stand today, all of you, before the LORD your God: your heads, your tribes, your elders and your officers, that is, all the men of Israel, 11 your little ones, your wives, and the stranger who is within your camps, from ^athe one who gathers your firewood to the one who draws your water, 12 so that you may enter into the covenant with the LORD your God, and into His oath which the LORD your God is making with you today, 13 in order that He may establish you today as His people, and that ^aHe may be your God, just as He spoke to you and as He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

14 “Now it is not with you alone that I am ^amaking this covenant and this oath, 15 ^abut both with those who stand here with us today in the presence of the LORD our God, and with those who are not with us here today 16 (for you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we passed through the midst of the nations through which you passed; 17 moreover, you have seen their abominations and their idols made of ^awood and stone, silver and gold, which they had with them); 18 ^aso that there will not be among you a man or woman, or family or tribe, whose heart turns away today from the LORD our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; that there will not be among you ^ba root bearing poisonous fruit and wormwood. 19 And it shall be when he hears the words of this curse, that he will consider himself fortunate in his heart, saying, ‘I will do well though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart in order ¹to destroy the watered land along with the dry.’ 20 The LORD will not be willing to forgive him, but rather the anger of the LORD and ^aHis wrath will ^1bburn against that person, and every curse that is written in this book will lie upon him, and the LORD will ^cwipe out his name from under heaven. 21 Then the LORD will single him out for disaster from all the tribes of Israel, in accordance with all the curses of the covenant ^awhich is written in this Book of the Law.

22 “Now the future generation, your sons who rise up after you and ^athe foreigner who comes from a distant land, when they see the plagues of that land and the diseases with which the LORD has afflicted it, will say, 23 ‘All its land is ^abrimstone and salt, ^bburned debris, ¹unsown and unproductive, and no grass grows on it, like the overthrow of ^cSodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in His anger and in His wrath.’ 24 All the nations will say, ‘^aWhy has the LORD done all this to this land? Why this great ¹outburst of anger?’ 25 Then people will say, ‘It is ^abecause they abandoned the covenant of the LORD, the God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt. 26 And they went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods that they have not known and whom He had not ¹assigned to them. 27 Therefore, the anger of the LORD burned against that land, ^ato bring upon it every curse which is written in this book; 28 and ^athe LORD uprooted them from their land in anger, fury, and in great wrath, and hurled them into another land, as it is this day.’

29 “^aThe secret things belong to the LORD our God, but ^bthe things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, so that we may ¹follow all the words of this Law.

^aThese are the words of the covenant which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the sons of Israel in the land of Moab, in addition to the ^bcovenant which He made with them at Horeb (Sinai) .

10 “All of you stand today before the LORD your God—your chiefs, your tribes, your elders and your officers, even all the men of Israel, 11 your little ones, your wives, and the stranger (resident alien, foreigner) who is in your camps, from ^1athe one who chops and gathers your firewood to the one who draws your water— 12 so that you may enter into the covenant of the LORD your God, and into His oath and agreement which the LORD your God is making with you today, 13 so that He may establish you today as His people and that ^aHe may be your God, just as He spoke to you and as He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

14 “It is not with you alone that I ^aam making this covenant and this oath, 15 ^abut with those future Israelites who are not here with us today, as well as with those who stand here with us today in the presence of the LORD our God 16 (for you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we passed through the nations along the way; 17 and you have seen their detestable acts and their repulsive idols of ^awood and stone, lifeless images of silver and gold, which they had with them), 18 ^aso that there will not be among you a man or woman, or family or tribe, whose heart turns away today from the LORD our God, to go and serve the false gods of these nations; so that there will not be among you a ^broot of idolatry bearing poisonous fruit and wormwood (bitterness) . 19 It will happen that when he (a renegade) hears the words of this oath, and he ¹imagines himself as blessed, saying, ‘I will have peace and safety even though I walk within the stubbornness of my heart rejecting God and His law, in order that the watered land dwindles away along with the dry destroying everything,’ 20 the LORD will not be willing to forgive him, but then the anger of the LORD and ^aHis ¹jealousy will ^bburn against that man, and every curse which is written in this book will rest on him; the LORD will ^cblot out his name from under heaven. 21 Then the LORD will single him out for disaster from all the tribes of Israel making an example of him, according to all the curses of the covenant ^athat are written in this Book of the Law.

22 “Now the next generation, your children who come after you and ^athe foreigner who comes from a distant land, when they see the plagues of this land and the diseases with which the LORD has afflicted it, will say, 23 ‘The whole land is ^abrimstone and salt, ^ba burning waste, unsown and unproductive, and no grass grows in it; it is like the overthrow of ^cSodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in His anger and wrath.’ 24 All the nations will say, ‘^aWhy has the LORD done this thing to this land? Why this great outburst of anger?’ 25 Then people will say, ‘It is ^abecause they abandoned (broke) the covenant of the LORD, the God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt. 26 For they went and served other gods and worshiped them, false gods whom they have not known and whom He had not allotted (given) to them. 27 So the anger of the LORD burned against this land, ^abringing on it every curse that is written in this book; 28 and ^athe LORD uprooted them from their land in anger and in wrath and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.’

29 “^aThe secret things belong to the LORD our God, but ^bthe things which are revealed and disclosed belong to us and to our children forever, so that we may do all of the words of this law.
