^aY sucederá que si obedeces diligentemente al¹ SEÑOR tu Dios, cuidando de cumplir todos sus mandamientos que yo te mando hoy, el SEÑOR tu Dios te pondrá en alto sobre todas las naciones de la tierra^b. 2 Y todas estas bendiciones vendrán sobre ti y te alcanzarán^a, si obedeces al¹ SEÑOR tu Dios: 3 Bendito serás en la ciudad, y bendito serás en el campo^a. 4 Bendito el fruto de tu vientre, el producto¹ de tu suelo, el fruto de tu ganado, el aumento de tus vacas y las crías de tus ovejas. 5 Benditas serán tu canasta y tu artesa. 6 Bendito serás cuando entres, y bendito serás cuando salgas^a.

7 El SEÑOR hará que los enemigos que se levanten contra ti sean derrotados¹ delante de ti; saldrán contra ti por un camino y huirán delante de ti por siete caminos. 8 El SEÑOR mandará que la bendición sea contigo en tus graneros y en todo aquello en que pongas tu mano^a, y te bendecirá en la tierra que el SEÑOR tu Dios te da. 9 Te establecerá el SEÑOR como pueblo santo para sí^a, como te juró, si guardas los mandamientos del SEÑOR tu Dios y andas en sus caminos. 10 Entonces verán todos los pueblos de la tierra que sobre ti es invocado¹ el nombre del SEÑOR^a; y te temerán. 11 Y el SEÑOR te hará abundar en bienes, en el fruto de tu vientre, en el fruto de tu ganado y en el producto¹ de tu suelo^a, en la tierra que el SEÑOR juró a tus padres que te daría. 12 Abrirá el SEÑOR para ti su buen tesoro, los cielos, para dar lluvia a tu tierra a su tiempo y para bendecir toda la obra de tu mano^a; y tú prestarás a muchas naciones, pero no tomarás prestado. 13 Y te pondrá el SEÑOR a la cabeza y no a la cola,solo estarás encima y nunca estarás debajo, si escuchas los mandamientos del SEÑOR tu Dios que te ordeno hoy, para que los guardes cuidadosamente^1a; 14 no te desvíes de ninguna de las palabras que te ordeno hoy, ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda^a, para ir tras otros dioses y servirles.

15 ^aPero sucederá que si no obedeces al¹ SEÑOR tu Dios, guardando todos sus mandamientos y estatutos que te ordeno hoy, vendrán sobre ti todas estas maldiciones y te alcanzarán: 16 Maldito serás en la ciudad, y maldito serás en el campo^a. 17 Malditas serán tu canasta y tu artesa^a. 18 Maldito el fruto de tu vientre y el producto¹ de tu suelo, el aumento de tu ganado y las crías de tu rebaño^a. 19 Maldito serás cuando entres y maldito serás cuando salgas^a.

20 Enviará el SEÑOR sobre ti maldición, confusión y censura en todo lo que emprendas^1a, hasta que seas destruido y hasta que perezcas rápidamente^b, a causa de la maldad de tus hechos, porque me has abandonado. 21 El SEÑOR hará que la peste se te pegue hasta que te haya consumido de sobre la tierra adonde vas a entrar para poseerla^a. 22 Te herirá el SEÑOR de tisis, de fiebre^a, de inflamación y de gran ardor, con la espada¹, con tizón y con añublo^b; y te perseguirán hasta que perezcas^c. 23 Y el¹ cielo que está encima de tu cabeza será de bronce, y la tierra que está debajo de ti, de hierro. 24 Y el SEÑOR hará que la lluvia de tu tierra sea polvo y ceniza; descenderá del cielo sobre ti hasta que seas destruido^a. 25 El SEÑOR hará que seas derrotado¹ delante de tus enemigos^a; saldrás contra ellos por un camino, pero huirás por siete caminos delante de ellos, y serás ejemplo de terror para todos los reinos de la tierra^b. 26 Y tus cadáveres serán alimento para todas las aves del cielo y para los animales de la tierra, y no habrá nadie que los espante^a.

27 Te herirá el SEÑOR con los furúnculos de Egipto y con tumores, sarna y comezón, de los que no podrás ser sanado^a. 28 Te herirá el SEÑOR con locura, con ceguera y con turbación de corazón¹; 29 y andarás a tientas a mediodía como el ciego anda a tientas en la oscuridad^a, y no serás prosperado en tus caminos; más bien serás oprimido y robado continuamente, sin que nadie te salve. 30 Te desposarás con una mujer, pero otro hombre se acostará con ella^a; edificarás una casa, pero no habitarás en ella; plantarás una viña, pero no aprovecharás su fruto^1b. 31 Tu buey será degollado delante de tus ojos, pero no comerás de él; tu asno será arrebatado, y no te será devuelto; tu oveja será dada a tus enemigos, y no tendrás quien te salve. 32 Tus hijos y tus hijas serán dados a otro pueblo^a, mientras tus ojos miran y desfallecen por ellos continuamente, pero no habrá nada que puedas hacer¹. 33 Un pueblo que no conoces comerá el producto de tu suelo y de todo tu trabajo, y no serás más que un pueblo oprimido y quebrantado todos los días^a. 34 Y te volverás loco por lo que verán tus ojos¹. 35 Te herirá el SEÑOR en las rodillas y en las piernas con pústulas malignas de las que no podrás ser sanado^a, desde la planta de tu pie hasta la coronilla. 36 El SEÑOR te llevará a ti y a tu rey, al que hayas puesto sobre ti, a una nación que ni tú ni tus padres habéis conocido^a, y allí servirás a otros dioses de madera y de piedra^b. 37 Y vendrás a ser motivo de horror, proverbio y burla entre todos los pueblos donde el SEÑOR te lleve^a.

38 Sacarás mucha semilla al campo, pero recogerás poco^a, porque la langosta la devorará^b. 39 Plantarás y cultivarás viñas, pero no beberás del vino ni recogerás las uvas^a, porque el gusano se las comerá. 40 Tendrás olivos por todo tu territorio pero no te ungirás con el aceite, porque tus aceitunas se caerán^a. 41 Tendrás¹ hijos e hijas, pero no serán tuyos^a, porque irán al cautiverio. 42 Todos tus árboles y el fruto de tu suelo los consumirá¹ la langosta^2a. 43 El forastero que esté en medio de ti se elevará sobre ti cada vez más alto, pero tú descenderás cada vez más bajo^a. 44 Él te prestará, pero tú no le prestarás a él^a; él será la cabeza y tú serás la cola^b. 45 Y todas estas maldiciones vendrán sobre ti y te perseguirán y te alcanzarán hasta que seas destruido^a, porque tú no escuchaste la voz del SEÑOR tu Dios, no guardando los mandamientos y estatutos que Él te mandó. 46 Y serán señal y maravilla^a sobre ti y sobre tu descendencia¹ para siempre. 47 Por cuanto no serviste al SEÑOR tu Dios con alegría y con gozo de corazón, cuando tenías¹ la abundancia de todas las cosas^a, 48 por tanto servirás a tus enemigos, los cuales el SEÑOR enviará contra ti: en hambre, en sed, en desnudez y en escasez de todas las cosas^a; Él pondrá yugo de hierro sobre tu cuello^b hasta que te haya destruido.

49 El SEÑOR levantará contra ti una nación de lejos, desde el extremo de la tierra^a, que descenderá rauda como águila^b, una nación cuya lengua no entenderás^c, 50 una nación de rostro fiero que no tendrá respeto al anciano^a ni tendrá compasión del niño¹. 51 Se comerá la cría¹ de tu ganado y el fruto de tu suelo, hasta que seas destruido; tampoco te dejará grano, ni mosto, ni aceite, ni el aumento de tu ganado, ni las crías de tu rebaño, hasta que te haya hecho perecer. 52 Y esa nación te pondrá sitio en todas tus ciudades¹, hasta que tus muros altos y fortificados en los cuales tú confiabas caigan por toda tu tierra; y te sitiará en todas tus ciudades^2a, por toda la tierra que el SEÑOR tu Dios te ha dado. 53 Entonces comerás el fruto de tu vientre, la carne de tus hijos y de tus hijas^a que el SEÑOR tu Dios te ha dado, en el asedio y en la angustia con que tu enemigo te oprimirá¹. 54 El hombre que es tierno¹ y muy delicado en medio de ti, será hostil² hacia su hermano, hacia la mujer que ama³ y hacia el resto de sus hijos que le queden, 55 y no dará a ninguno de ellos nada de la carne de sus hijos que se comerá, ya que no le quedará nada en el asedio y en la angustia con que tu enemigo te oprimirá¹ en todas tus ciudades². 56 La mujer tierna¹ y delicada en medio tuyo, que no osaría poner la planta de su pie en tierra por ser delicada y tierna, será hostil² hacia el esposo que ama³, también hacia su hijo, hacia su hija^a, 57 hacia la placenta que salga de su seno¹ y hacia los hijos que dé a luz^a; porque se los comerá en secreto por falta de otra cosa, en el asedio y en la angustia con que tu enemigo te oprimirá² en tus ciudades³.

58 Si no cuidas de poner en práctica todas las palabras de esta ley que están escritas en este libro, temiendo¹ este nombre glorioso y temible^a, el SEÑOR tu Dios^b, 59 entonces el SEÑOR hará horribles tus plagas y las plagas de tus descendientes¹, plagas severas² y duraderas, y enfermedades perniciosas y crónicas. 60 Y traerá de nuevo sobre ti todas las enfermedades de Egipto^a de las cuales tenías temor, y no te dejarán¹. 61 También toda enfermedad y toda plaga que no están escritas en el libro de esta ley, el SEÑOR traerá sobre ti hasta que seas destruido^a. 62 Y quedaréis pocos en número, aunque erais multitud como las estrellas del cielo^a; porque no obedeciste al¹ SEÑOR tu Dios. 63 Y sucederá que tal como el SEÑOR se deleitaba en vosotros para prosperaros y multiplicaros^a, así el SEÑOR se deleitará en vosotros para haceros perecer y destruiros^b; y seréis arrancados de la tierra en la cual entráis para poseerla^c. 64 Además, el SEÑOR te dispersará entre todos los pueblos de un extremo de la tierra hasta el otro extremo de la tierra^a; y allí servirás a otros dioses, de madera y de piedra, que ni tú ni tus padres habéis conocido^b. 65 Y entre esas naciones no hallarás descanso^a, y no habrá reposo para la planta de tu pie, sino que allí el SEÑOR te dará un corazón temeroso^b, desfallecimiento de ojos y desesperación de alma. 66 Y tendrás la vida pendiente de un hilo¹; y estarás aterrado de noche y de día, y no tendrás seguridad de tu vida. 67 Por la mañana dirás: «¡Oh, si fuera la tarde!». Y por la tarde dirás: «¡Oh, si fuera la mañana^a!» por causa del espanto de tu corazón con que temerás y por lo que verán tus ojos¹. 68 Y te hará volver el SEÑOR a Egipto en naves, por el camino del cual yo te había dicho: «Nunca más volverás a verlo». Y allí os ofreceréis en venta como esclavos y esclavas a vuestros enemigos, pero no habrá comprador.

“^aNow it shall be, if you diligently ¹obey the LORD your God, being careful to do all His commandments which I am commanding you today, that the LORD your God ^bwill put you high above all the nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings will come to you and ^areach you if you ¹obey the LORD your God:

3 “Blessed will you be in the city, and blessed will you be ^ain the ¹country.

4 “Blessed will be the ¹children of your womb, the ²produce of your ground, and the ³offspring of your animals: the newborn of your herd and the young of your flock.

5 “Blessed will be your basket and your kneading bowl.

6 “Blessed will you be ^awhen you come in, and blessed will you be when you go out.

7 “The LORD will cause your enemies who rise up against you to be ¹defeated by you; they will go out against you one way and will flee at your presence seven ways. 8 The LORD will command the blessing for you in your ¹barns and in ^aeverything that you put your hand to, and He will bless you in the land that the LORD your God is giving you. 9 ^aThe LORD will establish you as a holy people to Himself, as He swore to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in His ways. 10 So all the peoples of the earth will see that ^1ayou are called by the name of the LORD, and they will be afraid of you. 11 ^aAnd the LORD will give you more than enough prosperity, in the ¹children of your womb, in the ²offspring of your livestock, and in the ³produce of your ground, in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you. 12 The LORD will open for you His good storehouse, the heavens, to give rain to your land in its season and to bless every work of your hand; and ^ayou will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow. 13 ^aAnd the LORD will make you the head and not the tail, and you will only be above, and not be underneath, if you listen to the commandments of the LORD your God which I am commanding you today, to ¹follow them carefully, 14 and ^ado not turn aside from any of the words which I am commanding you today, to the right or the left, to pursue other gods to serve them.

15 “^aBut it shall come about, if you do not ¹obey the LORD your God, to be careful to ²follow all His commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:

16 “^aCursed will you be in the city, and cursed will you be in the ¹country.

17 “^aCursed will be your basket and your kneading bowl.

18 “^aCursed will be the ¹children of your womb, the ²produce of your ground, the newborn of your herd, and the offspring of your flock.

19 “^aCursed will you be when you come in, and cursed will you be when you go out.

20 “^aThe LORD will send against you curses, panic, and ^brebuke, in ¹everything you undertake to do, until you are destroyed and until ^cyou perish quickly, on account of the evil of your deeds, because you have abandoned Me. 21 ^aThe LORD will make the plague cling to you until He has eliminated you from the land where you are entering to take possession of it. 22 ^aThe LORD will strike you with consumption, inflammation, fever, feverish heat, and with ¹the sword, ^bwith blight, and with mildew, and they will pursue you until ^cyou perish. 23 ¹The heaven which is over your head shall be bronze, and the earth which is under you, iron. 24 ^aThe LORD will make the rain of your land powder and dust; from heaven it shall come down on you until you are destroyed.

25 “^aThe LORD will cause you to be defeated by your enemies; you will go out one way against them, but you will flee seven ways from their presence, and you will ^bbe an example of terror to all the kingdoms of the earth. 26 ^aYour dead bodies will ¹serve as food for all birds of the sky and for the animals of the earth, and there will be no one to frighten them away.

27 “^aThe LORD will strike you with the boils of Egypt and with ^btumors, the festering rash, and with scabies, from which you cannot be healed. 28 The LORD will strike you with insanity, blindness, and with confusion of ¹mind; 29 and you will be ^agroping about at noon, just as a person who is blind gropes in the darkness, and you will not be successful in your ways; but you will only be ¹oppressed and robbed all the time, with no one to save you. 30 ^aYou will ¹betroth a woman, but another man will ²violate her; ^byou will build a house, but you will not live in it; you will plant a vineyard, but you will not make use of its fruit. 31 Your ox will be slaughtered before your eyes, but you will not eat of it; your donkey will be snatched away from you, and will not ¹be restored to you; your ²sheep will be given to your enemies, and you will have no one to save you. 32 ^aYour sons and your daughters will be given to another people, while your eyes look on and long for them constantly; but there will be nothing ¹you can do. 33 ^aA people whom you do not know will eat the produce of your ground and every product of your labor, and you will never be anything but oppressed and mistreated continually. 34 You will also be driven insane by the sight of ¹what you see. 35 ^aThe LORD will strike you on the knees and thighs with severe boils from which you cannot be healed, and strike you from the sole of your foot to the top of your head. 36 ^aThe LORD will bring you and your king, whom you appoint over you, to a nation that neither you nor your fathers have known, and there you shall serve other gods, made of ^bwood and stone. 37 And ^ayou will become an object of horror, a song of mockery, and an object of taunting among all the peoples where the LORD drives you.

38 “^aYou will bring out a great amount of seed to the field, but you will gather in little, because ^bthe locust will devour it. 39 ^aYou will plant and cultivate vineyards, but you will neither drink of the wine nor bring in the harvest, because the worm will eat it. 40 ^aYou will have olive trees throughout your territory but you will not anoint yourself with the oil, because your olives will drop off prematurely. 41 ^aYou will father sons and daughters but they will not remain yours, because they will go into captivity. 42 ^aThe cricket will take possession of all your trees and the produce of your ground. 43 ^aThe stranger who is among you will rise above you higher and higher, and you will go down lower and lower. 44 ^aHe will lend to you, but you will not lend to him; ^bhe will be the head, and you will be the tail.

45 “So all these curses shall come upon you and pursue you and overtake you ^auntil you are destroyed, because you would not ¹obey the LORD your God by keeping His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you. 46 And they will become ^aa sign and a wonder ¹against you and your ²descendants forever.

47 “^aSince you did not serve the LORD your God with joy and a cheerful heart, in gratitude for the abundance of all things, 48 you will serve your enemies whom the LORD will send against you, ^ain hunger, thirst, nakedness, and devoid of all things; and He ^bwill put an iron yoke on your neck until He has destroyed you.

49 “^aThe LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from the end of the earth, ^bas the eagle swoops down; a nation whose language you will not understand, 50 a nation ¹with a defiant attitude, who will ^ahave no respect for the old, nor show favor to the young. 51 Furthermore, it will eat the ¹offspring of your herd and the produce of your ground until you are destroyed; a nation that will leave you no grain, new wine, or oil, nor the newborn of your cattle or the young of your flock, until they have eliminated you. 52 ^aAnd it will besiege you in all your ¹towns until your high and fortified walls in which you trusted come down throughout your land, and it will besiege you in all your ²towns throughout your land which the LORD your God has given you. 53 ^aThen you will eat the ¹offspring of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters whom the LORD your God has given you, during the siege and the hardship by which your enemy will ²oppress you. 54 The man who is ¹refined and very delicate among you ²will be hostile toward his brother, toward the wife ³he cherishes, and toward the rest of his children who are left, 55 so that he will not give even one of them any of the flesh of his children which he will eat, since he has nothing else left, during the siege and the hardship by which your enemy will ¹oppress you in all your ²towns. 56 ^aThe ¹refined and delicate woman among you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground because of her delicateness and tenderness, ²will be hostile toward the husband ³she cherishes and toward her son and daughter, 57 and toward her afterbirth that comes from between her ¹legs, and toward her children to whom she gives birth, because ^ashe will eat them secretly for lack of anything else, during the siege and the hardship with which your enemy will ²oppress you in your ³towns.

58 “If you are not careful to ¹follow all the words of this Law that are written in this book, to ^2afear this honored and awesome ^bname, ³the LORD your God, 59 then the LORD will bring extraordinary plagues on you and ¹your descendants, ²severe and lasting plagues, and miserable and chronic sicknesses. 60 ^aAnd He will bring back on you every disease of Egypt of which you were afraid, and they will cling to you. 61 Also every sickness and every plague, which are not written in the book of this Law, the LORD will bring on you ^auntil you are destroyed. 62 Then you will be left few in ¹number, ^awhereas you were as numerous as the stars of heaven, because you did not ²obey the LORD your God. 63 And it will come about that, just as the LORD ^arejoiced over you to be good to you, and make you numerous, so will the LORD ^brejoice over you to wipe you out and destroy you; and you will be ^ctorn away from the land which you are entering to possess. 64 Furthermore, the LORD will ^ascatter you among all the peoples, from one end of the earth to ¹the other; and there you will ^bserve other gods, made of wood and stone, which you and your fathers have not known. 65 ^aAmong those nations you will find no peace, and there will be no resting place for the sole of your foot; but there ^bthe LORD will give you a trembling heart, failing of eyes, and despair of soul. 66 So your lives will be ¹hanging in doubt before you; and you will be terrified night and day, and have no assurance of your life. 67 ^aIn the morning you will say, ‘If only it were evening!’ And at evening you will say, ‘If only it were morning!’ because of the terror of your heart which you fear, and the sight of your eyes which you will see. 68 And the LORD will bring you back to Egypt in ships, by the way about which I said to you, ‘You will never see it again!’ And there you will offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but there will be no buyer.”

“^aNow it shall be, if you diligently listen to and obey the voice of the LORD your God, being careful to do all of His commandments which I am commanding you today, the LORD your God ^bwill set you high above all the nations of the earth. 2 All these blessings will come upon you and ^aovertake you if you pay attention to the voice of the LORD your God.

3 “You will be blessed in the city, and you will be blessed ^ain the field.

4 “The ¹offspring of your ²body and the produce of your ground and the offspring of your animals, the offspring of your herd and the young of your flock will be blessed.

5 “Your basket and your kneading bowl will be blessed.

6 “You will be blessed ^awhen you come in and you will be blessed when you go out.

7 “The LORD will cause the enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you; they will come out against you one way, but flee before you seven ways. 8 The LORD will command the blessing upon you in your storehouses and in ^1aall that you undertake, and He will bless you in the land which the LORD your God gives you. 9 ^aThe LORD will establish you as a people holy and set apart to Himself, just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk that is, live your life each and every day in His ways. 10 So all the peoples of the earth will see that ^ayou are called by the name of the LORD, and they will be afraid of you. 11 ^aThe LORD will give you great prosperity, in the offspring of your body and in the offspring of your livestock and the produce of your ground, in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you. 12 The LORD will open for you His good treasure house, the heavens, to give rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hand; and ^ayou will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow. 13 ^aThe LORD will make you the head (leader) and not the tail (follower) ; and you will be above only, and you will not be beneath, if you listen and pay attention to the commandments of the LORD your God, which I am commanding you today, to observe them carefully. 14 ^aDo not turn aside from any of the words which I am commanding you today, to the right or to the left, to follow and serve other gods.

15 “^aBut it shall come about, if you do not listen to and obey the voice of the LORD your God, being careful to do all His commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today, then all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:

16 “^aYou will be cursed in the city and cursed in the field.

17 “^aYour basket and your kneading bowl will be cursed.

18 “^aThe offspring of your body and the produce of your land, the offspring of your herd and the young of your flock will be cursed.

19 “^aYou will be cursed when you come in and you will be cursed when you go out.

20 “^aThe LORD will send upon you curses, confusion, and ^brebuke in everything that you undertake to do, until you are destroyed, ^cperishing quickly because of the evil of your deeds, because you have ¹turned away from Me. 21 ^aThe LORD will make the pestilence and plague cling to you until He has consumed and eliminated you from the land which you are entering to possess. 22 ^aThe LORD will strike you with consumption causing you to waste away and with fever and with inflammation and with fiery heat and with the sword and ^bwith blight and with mildew on your crops; and they will pursue you until ^cyou perish. 23 The heaven which is over your head shall be bronze giving no rain and blocking all prayers, and the earth which is under you, iron hard to plow and yielding no produce. 24 ^aThe LORD will make the rain of your land powder and dust; from heaven it will come down on you until you are destroyed.

25 “^aThe LORD will cause you to be defeated before your enemies; you will go out against them one way, but flee before them seven ways, and you will ^bbe an example of terror to all the kingdoms of the earth when they see your destruction. 2+@Chr 29:8 26 ^aYour carcasses will be food for all the birds of the sky and the beasts of the earth, and there will be no one to frighten them away.

27 “^aThe LORD will strike you with the boils of Egypt and with ^btumors and with the scab and the itch that you cannot heal. 28 The LORD will strike you with madness and with blindness and with bewilderment of heart and mind; 29 and you will be ^agroping at noon in broad daylight, just as the blind grope in the darkness, and nothing you do will prosper; but you will only be oppressed and exploited and robbed continually, with no one to save you. 30 ^aYou will be pledged to marry a wife, but another man will be intimate with her before you; ^byou will build a house, but you will not live in it; you will plant a vineyard, but you will not use its fruit. 31 Your ox will be slaughtered before your eyes, but you will not eat any of it; your donkey will be torn away from you, and it will not be returned to you; your sheep will be given to your enemies, and you will have no one to save you. 32 ^aYour sons and daughters will be given to another people, while your eyes look on and long for them continually; but there will be nothing you can do. 2+@Chr 29:9 33 ^aA people whom you do not know will eat the produce of your land and all the products of your labors, and you will never be anything but oppressed and exploited and crushed continually. Judg 6:1-6; 13:1 34 You shall be driven mad by the sight of ¹the things you see. 35 ^aThe LORD will strike you on the knees and on the legs with sore boils that you cannot heal, from the sole of your foot to the crown of your head. 36 ^aThe LORD will bring you and your king, whom you appoint over you, to a nation which you and your fathers have never known; there you will be forced to serve other gods, lifeless gods of ^bwood and stone. 2+@Kin 17:4, 6; 24:12, 14; 25:7, 11; Dan 6:11, 12 37 ^aAnd you will become a horror, a proverb a mere object lesson, and a taunt a derisive joke among all the people to which the LORD drives you.

38 “^aYou will bring out a great quantity of seed to the field, but you will gather in little, because ^bthe locusts will consume it. Hag 1:6 39 ^aYou will plant vineyards and cultivate them, but you will not drink the wine or gather the grapes, because the worm will eat them. 40 ^aYou will have olive trees throughout your territory but you will not ¹anoint yourselves with the oil, because your olives will drop off. 41 ^aYou will have sons and daughters, but they will not be yours for long, because they will go into captivity. Lam 1:5 42 ^aThe cricket will take possession of all your trees and the produce of your ground. Joel 1:4 43 ^aThe stranger who lives among you will rise above you higher and higher, and you will go down lower and lower. 44 ^aHe will lend to you out of his affluence, but you will not lend to him because of your poverty; ^bhe will be the head, and you the tail.

45 “So all these curses will come on you and pursue you and overtake you ^auntil you are destroyed, because you would not obey the voice of the LORD your God by keeping His commandments and His statutes which He has commanded you. 46 They will be a ^asign and a wonder to you and your descendants forever.

47 “^aBecause you did not serve the LORD your God with a heart full of joy and gladness for the abundance of all things with which He blessed you, 48 you will therefore serve your enemies whom the LORD sends against you, ^ain hunger and in thirst, in nakedness and in lack of all things; and He ^bwill put an iron yoke of slavery on your neck until He has destroyed you.

49 “^aThe LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from the end of the earth, as swift ^bas the eagle swoops down to attack, a nation whose language you will not understand, 50 a ¹defiant nation who will ^2ahave no respect for the old, nor show favor to the young, 51 and it will eat the offspring of your herd and the produce of your ground until you are destroyed, who will leave you no grain, new wine, or oil, nor the offspring of your herd or the young of your flock until they have caused you to perish. 52 ^aThey will besiege you in all your cities until your high and fortified walls in which you trusted come down throughout your land; and they will besiege you in all your cities throughout your land which the LORD your God has given you. 53 ^aThen you will eat the offspring of your own body to avoid starvation, the flesh of your sons and daughters whom the LORD your God has given you, during the siege and the misery by which your enemy will oppress you. 2+@Kin 6:24-29 54 The man who is most refined and well-bred among you ¹will be cruel and hostile toward his brother and toward ²the wife he cherishes and toward the rest of his children who remain, 55 so that he will not give even one of them any of the flesh of his children ¹which he will eat, ²because he has nothing else left, during the siege and the misery by which your enemy will oppress you in all your cities. 56 ^aThe most refined and well-bred woman among you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground because she is so delicate and pampered, ¹will be cruel and hostile toward ²the husband she cherishes and toward her son and daughter, 57 and toward her afterbirth that comes from between her legs and toward the children whom she bears; for ^ashe will eat them secretly for lack of anything else, during the siege and the misery by which your enemy will oppress you in your cities.

58 “If you are not careful to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, to ^afear and honor with reverence this glorious and awesome ^bname, the LORD your God, 59 then the LORD will bring extraordinary plagues on you and your descendants, even severe and lasting plagues, and miserable and chronic sicknesses. 60 Moreover, ^aHe will bring on you all the diseases of Egypt of which you were afraid, and they will cling to you. 61 Also the LORD will bring on you every sickness and every plague which is not written in this book of this law, ^auntil you are destroyed. 62 Because you did not obey the voice of the LORD your God, ^ayou who were as numerous as the stars of heaven shall be left few in number. 63 It shall come about that just as the LORD ^adelighted over you to make you prosper and multiply, so the LORD will ^bdelight over you to bring you to ruin and destruction; and you will be ^1cuprooted violently from the land which you are entering to possess. 64 And the LORD will ^ascatter you among all the nations, from one end of the earth to the other; and there you will be forced to ^bserve other gods, lifeless gods of wood and stone, which neither you nor your fathers have known. Dan 3:6 65 ^aAmong those nations you will find no peace (rest) , and there will be no resting place for the sole of your foot; but there ^bthe LORD will give you a trembling heart, failing eyes, and a despairing soul. 66 Your life will hang in doubt before you; night and day you will be filled with anxiety and have no assurance of living. 67 ^aIn the morning you will say, ‘I wish it were evening!’ and in the evening you will say, ‘I wish it were morning!’—because of the dread in your heart with which you tremble, and because of the sight of your eyes which you will see. 68 The LORD will bring you back to Egypt in ships, by the way about which I said to you, ‘You will never see it again!’ And there you will offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but there will be no one to buy you.” Hos 8:13
