En aquellos días, cuando de nuevo había una gran multitud que no tenía qué comer, ^aJesús llamó a sus discípulos y les dijo*: 2 Tengo compasión de la multitud porque hace ya tres días que están conmigo y no tienen qué comer^a; 3 y si los despido sin comer a sus casas, desfallecerán en el camino, pues algunos de ellos han venido de lejos. 4 Sus discípulos le respondieron: ¿Dónde podrá alguien encontrar lo suficiente para saciar de pan¹ aestos aquí en el desierto? 5 Y Él les preguntó¹: ¿Cuántos panes tenéis? Y ellos respondieron: Siete. 6 Entonces mandó* a la multitud que se recostara en el suelo; y tomando los siete panes, después de dar gracias, los partió y los iba dando a sus discípulos para que los pusieran delante de la gente; y ellos los sirvieron a¹ la multitud. 7 También tenían unos pocos pececillos; y después de bendecirlos^a, mandó queestos también los sirvieran¹. 8 Todos comieron y se saciaron; y recogieron de lo que sobró de los pedazos, siete canastas^a. 9 Los que comieron eran unos cuatro mil; y los despidió. 10 Y subiendo enseguida a la barca con sus discípulos, fue a la región de Dalmanuta^a.

11 ^aEntonces salieron los fariseos y comenzaron a discutir con Él, buscando de Él una señal¹ del cielo^b para ponerle² a prueba. 12 Suspirando profundamente^a en su espíritu¹, dijo*: ¿Por qué pide señal^2b esta generación? En verdad os digo que no se le dará señal³ a esta generación. 13 Y dejándolos, se embarcó otra vez y se fue al otro lado.

14 Y se habían olvidado de tomar panes; y no tenían consigo en la barca sinosolo un pan. 15 Y Él les encargaba¹ diciendo: ¡Tened cuidado! Guardaos de la levadura de los fariseos^a y de la levadura de Herodes^b. 16 Y ellos discutían entre sí que no tenían panes. 17 Dándose cuenta Jesús, les dijo*: ¿Por qué discutís que no tenéis pan? ¿Aún no comprendéis ni entendéis? ¿Tenéis el corazón endurecido^1a? 18 TENIENDO OJOS, ¿NO VEIS? Y TENIENDO OÍDOS, ¿NO OÍS^a? ¿No recordáis 19 cuando partí los cinco panes entre los cinco mil^a? ¿Cuántas cestas llenas de pedazos recogisteis? Y ellos le dijeron*: Doce^b. 20 Y cuando partí los siete panes entre los cuatro mil^a, ¿cuántas canastas llenas de los pedazos recogisteis? Y ellos le dijeron*: Siete^b. 21 Y les dijo¹: ¿Aún no entendéis^a?

22 Llegaron* a Betsaida^a, y le trajeron* un ciego y le rogaron* que lo tocara^b. 23 Tomando de la mano al ciego, lo sacó fuera de la aldea; y después de escupir^a en sus ojos y de poner las manos sobre él^b, le preguntó: ¿Ves algo? 24 Y levantando¹ la vista, dijo: Veo a los hombres, pero los veo² como árboles que caminan. 25 Entonces Jesús puso otra vez las manos sobre sus ojos, y él miró fijamente y fue restaurado; y lo veía todo con claridad. 26 Y lo envió a su casa diciendo: Ni aun en la aldea entres^a.

27 ^aSalió Jesús con sus discípulos a las aldeas de Cesarea de Filipo^b; y en el camino preguntó a sus discípulos, diciéndoles: ¿Quién dicen los hombres que soy yo? 28 Y le respondieron, diciendo: Unos, Juan el Bautista; y otros, Elías; pero otros, uno de los profetas^a. 29 Él les preguntó de nuevo: Pero vosotros, ¿quién decís que soy yo? Respondiendo Pedro, le dijo*: Tú eres el Cristo^1a. 30 Y Él les advirtió severamente que no hablaran de Él a nadie^a.

31 ^aY comenzó a enseñarles que el Hijo del Hombre debía padecer muchas cosas, y ser rechazado por los ancianos, los principales sacerdotes y los escribas, y ser muerto, y después de tres días resucitar^b. 32 Y les decía estas palabras claramente^a. Y Pedro le llevó aparte y comenzó a reprenderle. 33 Mas Él volviéndose y mirando a sus discípulos, reprendió a Pedro y le dijo*: ¡Quítate de delante de mí¹, Satanás^a!, porque no tienes en mente las cosas de Dios, sino las de los hombres.

34 Y llamando a la multitud y a sus discípulos, les dijo: Si alguno quiere venir en pos de mí, niéguese a sí mismo, tome su cruz, y sígame^a. 35 Porque el que quiera salvar su vida¹, la perderá; pero el que pierda su vida² por causa de mí y del evangelio, la salvará^a. 36 Pues, ¿de qué le sirve a un hombre ganar el mundo entero y perder su alma? 37 Pues ¿qué dará un hombre a cambio de su alma? 38 Porque cualquiera que se avergüence de mí y de mis palabras en esta generación adúltera y pecadora, el Hijo del Hombre^a también se avergonzará^b de él, cuando venga en la gloria de su Padre con los santos ángeles^c.

In those days, ^awhen there was again a large crowd and they had nothing to eat, Jesus summoned His disciples and *said to them, 2 “^aI feel compassion for the ¹people because they have remained with Me for three days already and have nothing to eat. 3 And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way; and some of them have come from a great distance.” 4 And His disciples replied to Him, “Where will anyone be able to find enough ¹bread here in this desolate place to satisfy these people?” 5 And He was asking them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven.” 6 And He *directed the ¹people to recline on the ground; and taking the seven loaves, He gave thanks and broke them, and started giving them to His disciples to serve, and they served them to the ²people. 7 They also had a few small fish; and ^aafter He had blessed them, He told the disciples to serve these as well. 8 And they ate and were satisfied; and they picked up seven large ^abaskets full of what was left over of the broken pieces. 9 About four thousand ¹men were there; and He dismissed them. 10 And immediately He got into the boat with His disciples and came to the region of ^aDalmanutha.

11 ^aAnd the Pharisees came out and began to argue with Him, ^bdemanding from Him a ¹sign from heaven, ²to test Him. 12 ^aSighing deeply in His spirit, He *said, “Why does this generation demand a ¹sign? Truly I say to you, ^2bno ³sign will be given to this generation!” 13 And leaving them, He again embarked and went away to the other side.

14 And the disciples had forgotten to take bread, and did not have more than one loaf in the boat with them. 15 And He was giving orders to them, saying, “^aWatch out! Beware of the ¹leaven of the Pharisees, and the leaven of ^bHerod.” 16 And they began to discuss with one another the fact that they had no bread. 17 And Jesus, aware of this, *said to them, “Why are you discussing the fact that you have no bread? ^aDo you not yet comprehend or understand? Do you still have your heart ¹hardened? 18 ^aHAVING EYES, DO YOU NOT SEE? AND HAVING EARS, DO YOU NOT HEAR? And do you not remember, 19 when I broke ^athe five loaves for the five thousand, how many ^bbaskets full of broken pieces you picked up?” They *said to Him, “Twelve.” 20 “When I broke ^athe seven for the four thousand, how many large ^bbaskets full of broken pieces did you pick up?” And they *said to Him, “Seven.” 21 And He was saying to them, “^aDo you not yet understand?”

22 And they *came to ^aBethsaida. And some people *brought a man who was blind to ¹Jesus and *begged Him to ^btouch him. 23 Taking the man who was blind by the hand, He ^abrought him out of the village; and after ^bspitting in his eyes and ^claying His hands on him, He asked him, “Do you see anything?” 24 And he ¹looked up and said, “I see people, for I see them like trees, walking around.” 25 Then again He laid His hands on his eyes; and he looked intently and was restored, and began to see everything clearly. 26 And He sent him to his home, saying, “Do not even enter ^athe village.”

27 ^aJesus went out, along with His disciples, to the villages of ^bCaesarea Philippi; and on the way He questioned His disciples, saying to them, “Who do people say that I am?” 28 ^aThey told Him, saying, “John the Baptist; and others say Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.” 29 And He continued questioning them: “But who do you say that I am?” ^aPeter answered and *said to Him, “You are the ¹Christ.” 30 And ^aHe ¹warned them to tell no one about Him.

31 ^aAnd He began to teach them that ^bthe Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise from the dead. 32 And He was stating the matter ^aplainly. And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. 33 But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and *said, “Get behind Me, ^aSatan; for you are not setting your mind on ¹God’s purposes, but on man’s.”

34 And He summoned the crowd together with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, ^atake up his cross, and follow Me. 35 For ^awhoever wants to save his ¹life will lose it, but whoever loses his ²life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36 For what does it benefit a person to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? 37 For what could a person give in exchange for his soul? 38 For ^awhoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, ^bthe Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He ^ccomes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

In those days, when there was again a large crowd gathered before Him and they had nothing to eat, ^aJesus called His disciples and told them, Matt 15:32-39 2 “^aI feel compassion for the crowd; they have been with Me now for three days and have nothing left to eat. 3 If I send them away to their homes hungry, they will faint from exhaustion on the road; because some of them have come a long way.” 4 His disciples replied to Him, “Where will anyone be able to find enough bread here in this isolated place to feed these people?” 5 He asked them, “How many loaves of bread do you have?” They said, “Seven.” 6 He directed the people to sit down on the ground; and taking the seven loaves, He gave thanks and broke them, and repeatedly gave them to His disciples to set before them, and they served the crowd. 7 They also had a few small fish; and ^awhen Jesus had blessed them and given thanks, He ordered these fish to be set before them as well. 8 And the people ate and were satisfied; and they picked up seven large ^abaskets full of the broken pieces that were left over. 9 About four thousand men were there besides women and children; and He sent them away. 10 Then immediately He got into the boat with His disciples and went to the district of ^1aDalmanutha.

11 ^aThe Pharisees came out and began to argue contentiously and debate with Him, ^bdemanding from Him a sign from heaven, to test Him because of their unbelief. 12 He ^agroaned and sighed deeply in His spirit and said, “Why does this generation demand a sign? I assure you and most solemnly say to you, ^1bno sign will be given to this generation!” 13 Leaving them, He again boarded the boat and left for the other side.

14 Now the disciples had forgotten to bring bread, and they had only one loaf with them in the boat. 15 Jesus repeatedly ordered them, saying, “^aWatch out! Beware of the ¹leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of ^bHerod.” 16 They began discussing this with one another, saying, “It is because we have no bread that He said this.” 17 Jesus, aware of this discussion, said to them, “Why are you discussing the fact that you have no bread? ^aDo you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened? Is 6:9, 10 18 ^aTHOUGH YOU HAVE EYES, DO YOU NOT SEE? AND THOUGH YOU HAVE EARS, DO YOU NOT HEAR and LISTEN to what I have said? And do you not remember, Jer 5:21 19 when I broke ^athe five loaves for the five thousand, how many ^bbaskets full of broken pieces you picked up?” They answered, “Twelve.” 20 “And when I broke ^athe seven loaves for the four thousand, how many large ^bbaskets full of broken pieces did you pick up?” And they answered, “Seven.” 21 And He was saying to them, “^aDo you still not understand?”

22 Then they came to ^aBethsaida; and some people brought a blind man to Jesus and begged Him to ^btouch him. 23 Taking the blind man by the hand, He ^aled him out of the village; and after ^bspitting on his eyes and ^claying His hands on him, He asked him, “Do you see anything?” 24 And he looked up and said, “I see people, but they look like trees, walking around.” 25 Then again Jesus laid His hands on his eyes; and the man stared intently and his sight was completely restored, and he began to see everything clearly. 26 And He sent him to his home, saying, “Do not even enter ^athe village.”

27 ^aThen Jesus and His disciples went out to the villages of ^1bCaesarea Philippi; and on the way He asked His disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” Matt 16:13-16; Luke 9:18-20 28 ^aThey answered Him, “John the Baptist; and others say Elijah; but others, one of the prophets.” 29 And He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” ^aPeter replied to Him, “You in contrast to the others are the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) .” 30 Then ^aJesus strictly warned them not to tell anyone about Him.

31 ^aAnd He began to teach them that ^bthe Son of Man must of necessity suffer many things and be rejected as the Messiah by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and must be put to death, and after three days rise from death to life. Matt 16:21-28; Luke 9:22-27 32 He was stating the matter ^aplainly not holding anything back. Then Peter took Him aside and began to reprimand Him. 33 But turning around with His back to Peter and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, “Get behind Me, ^aSatan; for your mind is not set on God’s will or His values and purposes, but on what pleases man.”

34 Jesus called the crowd together with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to follow Me as My disciple, he must deny himself set aside selfish interests, and ^1atake up his cross expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come and follow Me believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me. 35 For ^awhoever wishes to save his life in this world will eventually lose it through death, but whoever loses his life in this world for My sake and the gospel’s will save it from the consequences of sin and separation from God. Matt 10:39; Luke 17:33; John 12:25 36 For what does it benefit a man to gain the whole world with all its pleasures, and forfeit his soul? 37 For what will a man give in exchange for his soul and eternal life in God’s kingdom? 38 For ^awhoever is ashamed here and now of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, ^bthe Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He ^ccomes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”
