Yo soy la vid verdadera^a, y mi Padre es el viñador^b. 2 Todo sarmiento que en mí no da fruto, lo quita; y todo el que da fruto, lo poda¹ para que dé más fruto. 3 Vosotros ya estáis limpios por la palabra^a que os he hablado. 4 Permaneced en mí^a, y yo en vosotros. Como el sarmiento no puede dar fruto por sí mismo si no permanece en la vid, así tampoco vosotros si no permanecéis en mí. 5 Yo soy la vid, vosotros los sarmientos; el que permanece en mí y yo en él,ese da mucho fruto^a, porque separados de mí nada podéis hacer. 6 Si alguno no permanece en mí, es echado fuera como un sarmiento^a y se seca; y los recogen, los echan al fuego y se queman. 7 Si permanecéis en mí, y mis palabras permanecen en vosotros, pedid lo que queráis y os será hecho^a. 8 En esto es glorificado mi Padre^a, en que deis mucho fruto, y así probéis que sois¹ mis discípulos^b. 9 Como el Padre me ha amado^a, así también yo os he amado; permaneced en mi amor. 10 Si guardáis mis mandamientos, permaneceréis en mi amor^a, así como yo he guardado los mandamientos de mi Padre^b y permanezco en su amor. 11 Estas cosas os he hablado, para que mi gozo esté en vosotros, y vuestro gozo sea perfecto^1a. 12 Este es mi mandamiento: que os améis los unos a los otros, así como yo os he amado^a. 13 Nadie tiene un amor mayor queeste: que uno dé¹ su vida^a por sus amigos. 14 Vosotros sois mis amigos^a si hacéis lo que yo os mando^b. 15 Ya no os llamo siervos, porque el siervo no sabe lo que hace su señor; pero os he llamado amigos, porque os he dado a conocer todo lo que he oído de mi Padre^a. 16 Vosotros no me escogisteis a mí, sino que yo os escogí a vosotros^a, y os designé para que vayáis y deis fruto^b, y que vuestro fruto permanezca; para que todo lo que pidáis al Padre en mi nombre os lo conceda^c. 17 Esto os mando: que os améis los unos a los otros^a. 18 Si el mundo os odia, sabéis¹ que me ha odiado a mí^a antes que a vosotros. 19 Si fuerais del mundo, el mundo amaría lo suyo; pero como no sois del mundo, sino que yo os escogí^a de entre el mundo, por eso el mundo os odia^b. 20 Acordaos de la palabra que yo os dije: «Un siervo no es mayor que su señor^a». Si me persiguieron a mí, también os perseguirán a vosotros^b; si guardaron mi palabra^c, también guardarán la vuestra. 21 Pero todo esto os harán por causa de mi nombre^a, porque no conocen al que me envió^b. 22 Si yo no hubiera venido y no les hubiera hablado, no tendrían pecado^1a, pero ahora no tienen excusa por su pecado. 23 El que me odia a mí, odia también a mi Padre. 24 Si yo no hubiera hecho entre ellos las obras^a que ningún otro ha hecho, no tendrían pecado^1b; pero ahora las han visto, y me han odiado a mí y también a mi Padre. 25 Pero han hecho esto para que se cumpla la palabra que está escrita en su ley^a: «ME ODIARON SIN CAUSA^b». 26 Cuando venga el Consolador^1a, a quien yo enviaré del Padre^b, es decir, el Espíritu de verdad^c que procede del Padre, Él dará testimonio de mí^d, 27 y vosotros daréis testimonio¹ también^a, porque habéis estado conmigo desde el principio^b.

“^aI am the true vine, and My Father is the ^bvinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He ¹prunes it so that it may bear more fruit. 3 ^aYou are already ¹clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 ^aRemain in Me, ¹and I in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit ²of itself ³but must remain in the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in Me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches; the one who remains in Me, and I in him ^1abears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not remain in Me, he is ^athrown away like a branch and dries up; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you remain in Me, and My words remain in you, ^aask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 My ^aFather is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so ^1bprove to be My disciples. 9 Just as ^athe Father has loved Me, I also have loved you; remain in My love. 10 ^aIf you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love; just as ^bI have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love. 11 ^aThese things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your ^bjoy may be made full.

12 “This is ^aMy commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. 13 ^aGreater love has no one than this, that a person will ^blay down his life for his friends. 14 You are My ^afriends if ^byou do what I command you. 15 No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, because ^aall things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. 16 ^aYou did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and ^bbear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that ^cwhatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you. 17 This ^aI command you, that you love one another.

18 “^aIf the world hates you, ¹you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but ^aI chose you out of the world, ^bbecause of this the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you, ‘^aA slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, ^bthey will persecute you as well; if they ^cfollowed My word, they will follow yours also. 21 But all these things they will do to you ^aon account of My name, ^bbecause they do not know the One who sent Me. 22 ^aIf I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have ¹sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 The one who hates Me hates My Father also. 24 ^aIf I had not done among them ^bthe works which no one else did, they would not have ¹sin; but now they have both seen and hated Me and My Father as well. 25 But this has happened so that the word that is written in their ^aLaw will be fulfilled: ‘^bTHEY HATED ME FOR NO REASON.’

26 “When the ^1aHelper comes, ^bwhom I will send to you from the Father, namely, ^cthe Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, ^dHe will testify about Me, 27 and ^1ayou are testifying as well, because you have been with Me ^bfrom the beginning.

“^1aI am the true Vine, and My Father is the ^bvinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that continues to bear fruit, He repeatedly prunes, so that it will bear more fruit even richer and finer fruit. 3 ^aYou are already clean because of the word which I have given you the teachings which I have discussed with you. 4 ^aRemain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself without remaining in the vine, neither can you bear fruit, producing evidence of your faith unless you remain in Me. 5 ¹I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him ^abears much fruit, for otherwise apart from Me that is, cut off from vital union with Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not remain in Me, he is ^athrown out like a broken off branch, and withers and dies; and they gather such branches and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you remain in Me and My words remain in you that is, if we are vitally united and My message lives in your heart, ^aask whatever you wish and it will be done for you. 8 My ^aFather is glorified and honored by this, when you bear much fruit, and ^bprove yourselves to be My true disciples. 9 I have loved you just as ^athe Father has loved Me; remain in My love and do not doubt My love for you. 10 ^aIf you keep My commandments and obey My teaching, you will remain in My love, just as ^bI have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love. 11 ^aI have told you these things so that My joy and delight may be in you, and that your ^bjoy may be made full and complete and overflowing.

12 “This is ^aMy commandment, that you ¹love and unselfishly seek the best for one another, just as I have loved you. 13 ^aNo one has greater love nor stronger commitment than to ^blay down his own life for his friends. 14 You are my ^afriends if ^byou keep on doing what I command you. 15 I do not call you servants any longer, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you My friends, because I have revealed to you ^aeverything that I have heard from My Father. 16 ^aYou have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and I have appointed and placed and purposefully planted you, so that you would go and ^bbear fruit and keep on bearing, and that your fruit will remain and be lasting, so that ^cwhatever you ask of the Father in My name as My representative He may give to you. 17 This is what ^aI command you: that you love and unselfishly seek the best for one another.

18 ^a“If the world hates you and it does, know that it has hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own and would treat you with affection. But you are not of the world you no longer belong to it, but ^aI have chosen you out of the world. ^bAnd because of this the world hates you. 20 Remember and continue to remember that I told you, ‘^aA servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, ^bthey will also persecute you. If they ^ckept My word, they will keep yours also. 21 But they will do all these hurtful things to you ^afor My name’s sake because you bear My name and are identified with Me, ^bfor they do not know the One who sent Me. 22 ^aIf I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have the guilt of their sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 The one who hates Me also hates My Father. 24 ^aIf I had not done among them ^bthe works (attesting miracles) which no one else ever did, they would not have the guilt of their sin; but now the fact is that they have both seen these works and have hated Me and continue to hate Me and My Father as well. 25 But this is so that the word which has been written in their ^aLaw would be fulfilled, ‘^bTHEY HATED ME WITHOUT A CAUSE.’ Ps 35:19; 69:4

26 “But when the ^1aHelper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby) comes, ^bwhom I will send to you from the Father, that is ^cthe Spirit of Truth who comes from the Father, ^dHe will testify and bear witness about Me. 27 But ^ayou will testify also and be My witnesses, because you have been with Me ^bfrom the beginning.
