^aY sucedió que cuando Salomón había acabado de edificar la casa del SEÑOR, la casa del rey y todo lo que Salomón deseaba hacer^1b, 2 el SEÑOR se apareció a Salomón por segunda vez, tal como se le había aparecido en Gabaón^a. 3 Y el SEÑOR le dijo: He oído tu oración y tu súplica^a que has hecho delante de mí; he consagrado esta casa que has edificado, poniendo allí mi nombre para siempre^b; en ella¹ estarán mis ojos^c y mi corazón perpetuamente. 4 Y en cuanto a ti, si andas delante de mí como anduvo tu padre David, en integridad de corazón y en rectitud, haciendo conforme a todo lo que te he mandado, y guardas mis estatutos y mis ordenanzas^a, 5 yo afirmaré el trono de tu reino sobre Israel para siempre, tal como prometí¹ a tu padre David, diciendo: «No te faltará² hombre sobre el trono de Israel^a». 6 Pero si en verdad vosotros o vuestros hijos os apartáis de mí¹ y no guardáis mis mandamientos y mis estatutos^a que he puesto delante de vosotros, y os vais y servís a otros dioses y los adoráis, 7 entonces cortaré a Israel de sobre la faz de la tierra que les he dado^a; y la casa que he consagrado a mi nombre^b la echaré¹ de mi presencia, e Israel se convertirá en refrán y escarnio entre todos los pueblos^c. 8 Y esta casa se convertirá en un montón de ruinas^1a, todo el que pase quedará atónito y silbará; y dirán: «¿Por qué ha hecho así el SEÑOR a esta tierra y a esta casa^b?». 9 Y responderán: «Porque abandonaron al SEÑOR su Dios, que sacó a sus padres de la tierra de Egipto, y tomaron para sí otros dioses, los adoraron y los sirvieron; por eso el SEÑOR ha traído toda esta adversidad sobre ellos^a».

10 ^aY sucedió al cabo de los veinte años, en los cuales Salomón había edificado las dos casas, la casa del SEÑOR y la casa del rey^b 11 (Hiram, rey de Tiro, había proporcionado a Salomón maderas de cedro y de ciprés y oro conforme a todo su deseo), que el rey Salomón dio a Hiram veinte ciudades en la tierra de Galilea. 12 Y salió Hiram de Tiro para ver las ciudades que Salomón le había dado, y no le gustaron¹. 13 Y dijo: ¿Qué son estas ciudades que me has dado, hermano mío? Por eso fueron llamadas¹ tierra de Cabul^2a hasta hoy. 14 Hiram había enviado al rey ciento veinte talentos¹ de oro^a.

6 “^aBut if you or your sons indeed turn away from following Me, and do not keep My commandments and My statutes which I have placed before you, but you go and serve other gods and worship them, 7 ^athen I will cut Israel off from the land which I have given them, and ^bthe house which I have consecrated for My name, I will ¹expel from My sight. So ^cIsrael will become a saying and an object of derision among all peoples. 8 And this house will become ^aa heap of ruins; everyone who passes by it will be appalled and ¹hiss and say, ‘^bWhy has the LORD done such a thing to this land and this house?’ 9 And they will say, ‘^aBecause they abandoned the LORD their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and they ¹adopted other gods and worshiped and served them, for that reason the LORD has brought all this adversity on them.’”

10 ^aNow it came about ^bat the end of twenty years in which Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the LORD and the king’s house 11 (Hiram king of Tyre had supplied Solomon with cedar and juniper timber and gold, ¹satisfying all his desire), that King Solomon then gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee. 12 So Hiram left Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him, and they ¹did not please him. 13 And he said, “What are these cities which you have given me, my brother?” So ¹they have been called the land of ^2aCabul to this day. 14 ^aAnd Hiram sent to the king ¹120 talents of gold.

15 Now this is the account of the forced labor which King Solomon ^aconscripted to build the house of the LORD, his own house, the ^1bMillo, the wall of Jerusalem, ^cHazor, ^dMegiddo, and ^eGezer. 16 For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and overthrown Gezer and burned it with fire, and killed the ^aCanaanites who lived in the city; and he had ^bgiven it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon’s wife. 17 So Solomon rebuilt Gezer and the lower ^aBeth-horon, 18 and ^aBaalath and Tamar in the wilderness, in the land of Judah, 19 and all the storage cities which Solomon had, that is, ^athe cities for ¹his chariots and the cities for ^2bhis horsemen, and ^3ceverything that it pleased Solomon to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land ⁴under his rule. 20 As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the sons of Israel, 21 ^atheir descendants who were left after them in the land, ^bwhom the sons of Israel were unable to completely eliminate, ^cfrom them Solomon conscripted ^dforced laborers, as they are to this day. 22 But Solomon ^adid not make slaves of the sons of Israel; for they were men of war, his servants, his commanders, his charioteers, his chariot commanders, and his horsemen.

23 These were the ^1achief officers who were in charge of Solomon’s work, 550, ^bwho ruled over the people doing the work.

24 As soon as ^aPharaoh’s daughter came up from the city of David to her house which Solomon had built for her, ^bhe then built the Millo.

25 Now ^athree times a year Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar which he had built for the LORD, burning incense with them on the altar which was before the LORD. So he finished the house.

26 King Solomon also built a ^afleet of ships in ^bEzion-geber, which is near Eloth on the shore of the ¹Red Sea, in the land of Edom. 27 ^aAnd Hiram sent his servants with the fleet, sailors who knew the sea, along with the servants of Solomon. 28 And they went to ^aOphir and received ¹420 talents of gold from there, and brought it to King Solomon.

^aNow it happened when Solomon had finished building the house (temple) of the LORD and ^bthe king’s house (palace) , and ^call else which he was pleased to do, 2 that ^athe LORD appeared to Solomon a second time, just as He had appeared to him ¹at Gibeon. 3 The LORD told him, “^aI have heard your prayer and supplication which you have made before Me; I have consecrated this house which you have built by ^bputting My Name and My Presence there forever. ^cMy eyes and My heart shall be there perpetually. 4 As for you, ^aif you walk (live your life) before Me, as David your father walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, acting in accordance with everything that I have commanded you, and will keep My statutes and My precepts, 5 then ^aI will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, just as I promised your father David, saying, ‘You shall not be without a man (descendant) on the throne of Israel.’

6 “^aBut if you or your sons turn away from following Me, and do not keep My commandments and My statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them, 7 ^athen I will cut off Israel from the land which I have given them, and I will cast out of My sight ^bthe house which I have consecrated for My Name and Presence. Then ^cIsrael will become a proverb (a saying) and a byword (object of ridicule) among all the peoples. 8 This house (temple) will become ^aa heap of ruins; everyone who passes by will be appalled and ¹sneer and say, ‘^bWhy has the LORD done such a thing to this land and to this house?’ 9 And they who know will say, ‘^aBecause they abandoned the LORD their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and they have chosen other gods and have worshiped and served them; that is the reason the LORD has brought on them all this adversity.’”

10 Now ^aat the end of twenty years, ^bin which Solomon had built the two houses, the temple of the LORD and the palace of the king 11 (Hiram king of Tyre had supplied Solomon with as much cedar and cypress timber from Lebanon and gold as he desired), at that time King Solomon gave Hiram ¹twenty cities in the land of Galilee (northern Israel) . 12 So Hiram came from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him, and they ¹did not please him. 13 He said, “What are these cities good for which you have given me, my brother?” So they have been called the land of ^aCabul (like nothing, unproductive) to this day. 14 ^aAnd Hiram sent to the king 120 talents of gold.

15 Now this is the account of the forced labor which King Solomon ^aconscripted to build the house of the LORD, his own house, the ^1bMillo (fortification) , the wall of Jerusalem, and the fortress cities of ^cHazor, ^dMegiddo, and ^eGezer. 16 For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and taken Gezer, burned it with fire and killed the ^aCanaanites who lived in the city, and he had ^bgiven it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon’s wife. 17 So Solomon rebuilt and fortified Gezer and Lower ^aBeth-horon, 18 ^aBaalath and ¹Tamar in the wilderness, in the land of Judah, 19 and all the storage cities for surplus provisions which Solomon had, and the ^acities for his chariots and cities for ^bhis horsemen, and ^cwhatever it pleased Solomon to build ¹in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land under his rule. 20 As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, who were not of the sons (descendants) of Israel, 21 ^atheir children who were left after them in the land, ^bwhom the Israelites were unable to completely destroy, ^cfrom them Solomon levied (conscripted) ^dforced laborers, even to this day (the date of this writing) . 22 But Solomon ^adid not make slaves of the sons of Israel; for they were men of war (soldiers) , his servants, his officers, his captains, his chariot commanders, and his horsemen.

24 As soon as ^aPharaoh’s daughter came up from the City of David to her house which Solomon had built for her, ^bthen he built the Millo (fortification) .

25 ^aThree times a year during the ¹major annual festivals Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar he had built to the LORD, and he burned incense with them before the LORD. So he finished the house of the LORD.

26 King Solomon built a ^afleet of ships in ^bEzion-geber, which is near Eloth on the shore of the Red Sea (Sea of Reeds) , in the land of Edom. 27 ^aAnd Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants with the fleet, sailors who knew the sea, along with the servants of Solomon. 28 They came to ^1aOphir and took four hundred and twenty talents of gold from there, and brought it to King Solomon.
