^aFaltaban dos días para la Pascua^b y para la fiesta de los panes sin levadura¹; y los principales sacerdotes y los escribas buscaban cómo prenderle con engaño y matarle^c; 2 porque decían: No durante la fiesta, no sea que haya un tumulto del pueblo.

3 ^aY estando Él en Betania^b, sentado¹ a la mesa en casa de Simón el leproso, vino una mujer con un frasco de alabastro de perfume muy costoso de nardo puro^c; y rompió el frasco y lo derramó sobre la cabeza de Jesús². 4 Pero algunos estaban indignados y se decían unos a otros: ¿Para qué se ha hecho este desperdicio de perfume? 5 Porque este perfume podía haberse vendido por más de trescientos denarios¹, y dado el dinero a los pobres. Y la reprendían. 6 Pero Jesús dijo: Dejadla; ¿por qué la molestáis? Buena obra ha hecho conmigo. 7 Porque a los pobres siempre los tendréis¹ con vosotros; y cuando queráis les podréis² hacer bien; pero a mí no siempre me tendréis^3a. 8 Ella ha hecho lo que ha podido; se ha anticipado a ungir mi cuerpo para la sepultura^a. 9 Y en verdad os digo: Dondequiera que el evangelio se predique en el mundo entero, también se hablará de lo queesta ha hecho, para memoria suya^a.

10 ^aEntonces Judas Iscariote, que era uno de los doce, fue a los principales sacerdotes para entregarles a Jesús^1b. 11 Cuando ellos lo oyeron, se alegraron y prometieron darle dinero. Y él buscaba cómo entregarle en un momento oportuno.

12 ^aEl primer día de la fiesta de los panes sin levadura^1b, cuando se sacrificaba^c el cordero de la Pascua, sus discípulos le dijeron*: ¿Dónde quieres que vayamos y hagamos los preparativos para que comas la Pascua? 13 Y envió* a dos de sus discípulos, y les dijo*: Id a la ciudad, y allí os saldrá al encuentro un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua; seguidle; 14 y donde él entre, decid al dueño de la casa: «El Maestro dice: “¿Dónde está mi habitación en la que pueda comer la Pascua con mis discípulos^a?”». 15 Y él os mostrará un gran aposento alto, amueblado y preparado; haced los preparativos para nosotros allí. 16 Salieron, pues, los discípulos y llegaron a la ciudad, y encontraron todo tal como Él les había dicho; y prepararon la Pascua.

17 ^aAl atardecer llegó* Él con los doce. 18 Y estando sentados¹ a la mesa comiendo, Jesús dijo: En verdad os digo que uno de vosotros me entregará; el que come conmigo. 19 Ellos comenzaron a entristecerse y a decirle uno por uno: ¿Acaso soy yo? 20 Y Él les dijo: Es uno de los doce, el que moja conmigo en el plato. 21 Porque el Hijo del Hombre se va tal y como está escrito de Él; pero ¡ay de aquel hombre por quien el Hijo del Hombre es entregado! Mejor le fuera a ese hombre no haber nacido¹.

22 ^aY mientras comían, tomó pan, y habiéndolo bendecido lo partió, se lo dio a ellos^b, y dijo: Tomad, esto es mi cuerpo. 23 Y tomando una copa, después de dar gracias, se la dio a ellos, y todos bebieron de ella. 24 Y les dijo: Esto es mi sangre del nuevo¹ pacto^a, que es derramada por muchos^b. 25 En verdad os digo: Ya no beberé más del fruto de la vid hasta aquel día cuando lo beba nuevo en el reino de Dios.

26 Después de cantar un himno, salieron para el monte de los Olivos^a.

27 ^aY Jesús les dijo*: Todos vosotros os apartaréis¹, porque escrito está: «HERIRÉ AL PASTOR, Y LAS OVEJAS SE DISPERSARÁN^b». 28 Pero después de que yo haya resucitado, iré delante de vosotros a Galilea^a. 29 Entonces Pedro le dijo: Aunque todos se aparten¹, yo, sin embargo, no lo haré. 30 Y Jesús le dijo*: En verdad te digo que tú, hoy, esta misma noche, antes que el gallo cante dos veces, me negarás tres veces^a. 31 Pero Pedro con insistencia repetía: Aunque tenga¹ que morir contigo, no te negaré. Y todos decían también lo mismo.

32 ^aY llegaron* a un lugar que se llama Getsemaní, y dijo* a sus discípulos: Sentaos aquí hasta que yo haya orado. 33 Y tomó* consigo a Pedro, a Jacobo¹ y a Juan, y comenzó a afligirse y a angustiarse mucho^a. 34 Y les dijo*: Mi alma está muy afligida, hasta el punto de la muerte; quedaos aquí y velad^a. 35 Adelantándose un poco, se postró¹ en tierra y oraba que si fuera posible, pasara de Él aquella² hora^a. 36 Y decía: ¡Abba, Padre^a! Para ti todas las cosas son posibles; aparta de mí esta copa, pero no sea lo que yo quiero, sino lo que tú quieras^b. 37 Entonces vino* y los halló* durmiendo, y dijo* a Pedro: Simón, ¿duermes? ¿No pudiste velar ni por una hora? 38 Velad y orad para que no entréis en tentación; el espíritu está dispuesto, pero la carne es débil^a. 39 Se fue otra vez y oró, diciendo las mismas palabras¹. 40 Y vino de nuevo y los halló durmiendo, porque sus ojos estaban muy cargados de sueño; y no sabían qué responderle. 41 Vino* por tercera vez, y les dijo*: ¿Todavía estáis¹ durmiendo y descansando? Basta ya^a; ha llegado la hora; he aquí, el Hijo del Hombre es entregado en manos de los pecadores. 42 Levantaos, vámonos; mirad, está cerca el que me entrega.

43 ^aEn ese momento¹, mientras todavía estaba Él hablando, llegó* Judas, uno de los doce, acompañado de² una multitud con espadas y garrotes, de parte de los principales sacerdotes, de los escribas y de los ancianos. 44 Y el que le entregaba les había dado una señal, diciendo: Al que yo bese,ese es; prendedle y llevadle con seguridad¹. 45 Y habiendo llegado, inmediatamente se acercó a Él diciendo: ¡Rabí^1a! Y le besó. 46 Entonces ellos le echaron mano y le prendieron. 47 Pero uno de los que estaban allí, sacando la espada, hirió al siervo del sumo sacerdote y le cortó¹ la oreja. 48 Y dirigiéndose¹ Jesús a ellos, les dijo: ¿Habéis salido con espadas y garrotes para arrestarme como contra un ladrón? 49 Cada día estaba con vosotros en el templo enseñando^a, y no me prendisteis; pero esto ha sucedido para¹ que se cumplan las Escrituras. 50 Y abandonándole, huyeron todos.

51 Cierto joven le seguía, vestidosolo con una sábana sobre su cuerpo desnudo; y lo prendieron*; 52 pero él, dejando la sábana, escapó desnudo.

53 ^aY llevaron a Jesús al sumo sacerdote; y se reunieron* todos los principales sacerdotes, los ancianos y los escribas. 54 Pedro le siguió de lejos hasta dentro del patio^a del sumo sacerdote^b; estaba sentado con los alguaciles¹, calentándose al fuego^2c. 55 Y los principales sacerdotes y todo el concilio^1a, procuraban obtener testimonio contra Jesús para darle muerte, pero no lo hallaban. 56 Porque muchos daban falso testimonio contra Él, pero sus testimonios no coincidían¹. 57 Y algunos, levantándose, daban falso testimonio contra Él, diciendo: 58 Nosotros le oímos decir: «Yo destruiré este templo¹ hecho por manos, y en tres días edificaré otro no hecho por manos^a». 59 Y ni siquiera en esto coincidía¹ el testimonio de ellos. 60 Entonces el sumo sacerdote levantándose, se puso en medio y preguntó a Jesús, diciendo: ¿No respondes nada? ¿Qué testificanestos contra ti? 61 Mas Él callaba^a y nada respondía. ^bLe volvió a preguntar el sumo sacerdote, diciéndole¹: ¿Eres tú el Cristo², el Hijo del Bendito? 62 Jesús dijo: Yo soy; y veréis al HIJO DEL HOMBRE SENTADO A LA DIESTRA DEL PODER^a y VINIENDO CON LAS NUBES DEL CIELO^b. 63 Entonces el sumo sacerdote, rasgando sus ropas^a, dijo*: ¿Qué necesidad tenemos de más testigos? 64 Habéis oído la blasfemia; ¿qué os parece? Y todos le condenaron, diciendo que era reo de muerte^a. 65 Y comenzaron algunos a escupirle^a, a cubrirle el rostro^1b y a darle de puñetazos, y a decirle: ¡Profetiza^c! Y los alguaciles² le recibieron³ a bofetadas⁴.

66 ^aEstando Pedro abajo en el patio^b, llegó* una de las sirvientas del sumo sacerdote, 67 y al ver a Pedro calentándose^a, lo miró y dijo*: Tú también estabas con Jesús el Nazareno^b. 68 Pero él lo negó, diciendo: Ni sé, ni entiendo de qué hablas. Y salió al portal^1a, y un gallo cantó². 69 Cuando la sirvienta lo vio, de nuevo comenzó a decir a los que estaban allí: Este es uno de ellos. 70 Pero él lo negó^a otra vez. Y poco después los que estaban allí volvieron a decirle a Pedro: Seguro que tú eres uno de ellos, pues también eres galileo^b. 71 Pero él comenzó a maldecir¹ y a jurar: ¡Yo no conozco a este hombre de quien habláis! 72 Al instante un gallo cantó por segunda vez. Entonces Pedro recordó lo¹ que Jesús le había dicho: Antes que el gallo cante dos veces, me negarás tres veces^a. Y se echó a llorar².

^aNow ^bthe Passover and Unleavened Bread were two days away; and the chief priests and the scribes ^cwere seeking how to seize Him by stealth and kill Him; 2 for they were saying, “Not during the festival, otherwise there might be a riot of the people.”

3 ^aWhile He was in ^bBethany at the home of Simon the leper, and reclining at the table, there came a woman with an alabaster vial of very ^ccostly perfume of pure ¹nard; and she broke the vial and poured it over His head. 4 But some were indignantly remarking to one another, “Why has this perfume been wasted? 5 For this perfume might have been sold for over three hundred ¹denarii, and the money given to the poor.” And they were scolding her. 6 But Jesus said, “Let her alone; why do you bother her? She has done a good deed to Me. 7 For you always have ^athe poor with you, and whenever you wish you can do good to them; but you do not always have Me. 8 She has done what she could; ^ashe has anointed My body beforehand for the burial. 9 Truly I say to you, ^awherever the gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of in memory of her.”

10 ^aThen Judas Iscariot, ^bwho was one of the twelve, went off to the chief priests in order to ¹betray Him to them. 11 They were glad when they heard this, and promised to give him money. And he began seeking how to betray Him at an opportune time.

12 ^aOn the first day of ^bUnleavened Bread, when ¹the Passover lamb was being ^csacrificed, His disciples *said to Him, “Where do You want us to go and prepare for You to eat the Passover?” 13 And He *sent two of His disciples and *said to them, “Go into the city, and a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him; 14 and wherever he enters, say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is My ^aguest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’ 15 And he himself will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; prepare for us there.” 16 The disciples went out and came to the city, and found it just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.

17 ^aWhen it was evening He *came with the twelve. 18 As they were reclining at the table and eating, Jesus said, “Truly I say to you that one of you will ¹betray Me—²one who is eating with Me.” 19 They began to be grieved and to say to Him one by one, “Surely not I?” 20 And He said to them, “It is one of the twelve, ¹one who dips with Me in the bowl. 21 For the Son of Man is to go just as it is written of Him; but woe to that man ¹by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good ²for that man if he had not been born.”

22 ^aWhile they were eating, He took some bread, and ¹after a ^bblessing He broke it, and gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is My body.” 23 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, and they all drank from it. 24 And He said to them, “This is My ^ablood of the ^bcovenant, which is poured out for many. 25 Truly I say to you, I will never again drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”

26 ^aAfter singing a hymn, they went out to ^bthe Mount of Olives.

27 ^aAnd Jesus *said to them, “You will all ¹fall away, because it is written, ‘^bI WILL STRIKE DOWN THE SHEPHERD, AND THE SHEEP SHALL BE SCATTERED.’ 28 But after I have been raised, ^aI will go ahead of you to Galilee.” 29 But Peter said to Him, “Even though all may ¹fall away, yet I will not.” 30 And Jesus *said to him, “Truly I say to you, that ^1athis very night, before ^ba rooster crows twice, you yourself will deny Me three times.” 31 But Peter kept saying insistently, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!” And they all were saying the same thing also.

32 ^aThey *came to a place named Gethsemane; and He *said to His disciples, “Sit here until I have prayed.” 33 And He *took with Him Peter and ¹James and John, and began to be very ^adistressed and troubled. 34 And He *said to them, “^aMy soul is deeply grieved to the point of death; remain here and keep watch.” 35 And He went a little beyond them, and fell to the ground and began to pray that if it were possible, ^athe hour might ¹pass Him by. 36 And He was saying, “^aAbba! Father! All things are possible for You; remove this cup from Me; ^byet not what I will, but what You will.” 37 And He *came and *found them sleeping, and *said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one hour? 38 ^aKeep watching and praying that you may not come into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 39 Again He went away and prayed, saying the same ¹words. 40 And again He came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy; and they did not know what to answer Him. 41 And He *came the third time, and *said to them, “¹Are you still sleeping and resting? It is enough; ^athe hour has come; behold, the Son of Man is being ²betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42 Get up, let us be going; behold, the one who betrays Me is at hand!”

43 ^aImmediately while He was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, *came up ¹accompanied by a crowd with swords and clubs, who were from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. 44 Now he who was betraying Him had given them a signal, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the one; seize Him and lead Him away ¹under guard.” 45 After coming, Judas immediately went to Him, saying, “^aRabbi!” and kissed Him. 46 They laid hands on Him and seized Him. 47 But one of those who stood by drew his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest and ¹cut off his ear. 48 And Jesus said to them, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me, as you would against a robber? 49 Every day I was with you ^ain the temple teaching, and you did not seize Me; but this has taken place to fulfill the Scriptures.” 50 And they all left Him and fled.

51 A young man was following Him, wearing nothing but a linen sheet over his naked body; and they *seized him. 52 But he ¹pulled free of the linen sheet and escaped naked.

53 ^aThey led Jesus away to the high priest; and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes *gathered together. 54 Peter had followed Him at a distance, ^aright into ^bthe courtyard of the high priest; and he was sitting with the ¹officers and ^cwarming himself at the ²fire. 55 Now the chief priests and the whole ^1aCouncil kept trying to obtain testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, and they were not finding any. 56 For many were giving false testimony against Him, but their testimony was not consistent. 57 Some stood up and began to give false testimony against Him, saying, 58 “We heard Him say, ‘^aI will destroy this ¹temple made with hands, and in three days I will build another made without hands.’” 59 Not even in this respect was their testimony consistent. 60 The high priest stood up and came forward and questioned Jesus, saying, “Do You not answer? ¹What is it that these men are testifying against You?” 61 ^aBut He kept silent and did not answer. ^bAgain the high priest was questioning Him, and ¹saying to Him, “Are You ²the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?” 62 And Jesus said, “I am; and you shall see ^aTHE SON OF MAN SITTING AT THE RIGHT HAND OF POWER, and ^bCOMING WITH THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN.” 63 ^aTearing his clothes, the high priest *said, “What further need do we have of witnesses? 64 You have heard the ^ablasphemy; how does it seem to you?” And they all condemned Him to be deserving of death. 65 Some began to ^aspit at Him, and ^1bto blindfold Him, and to beat Him with their fists, and to say to Him, “^cProphesy!” And the officers ²received Him with ³slaps in the face.

66 ^aAs Peter was below in ^bthe courtyard, one of the servant-girls of the high priest *came, 67 and seeing Peter ^awarming himself, she looked at him and *said, “You also were with Jesus the ^bNazarene.” 68 But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you are talking about.” And he ^awent out onto the ¹porch.² 69 The servant-girl saw him, and began once more to say to the bystanders, “This is one of them!” 70 But again ^ahe denied it. And after a little while the bystanders were again saying to Peter, “Surely you are one of them, ^bfor you are a Galilean too.” 71 But he began to ¹curse and swear, “I do not know this man you are talking about!” 72 Immediately a rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had made the remark to him, “Before ^aa rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” ¹And he began to weep.
