Por tanto, puesto que tenemos en derredor nuestro tan gran nube de testigos, despojémonos también de todo peso y del pecado^a que tan fácilmente nos envuelve, y corramos^b con paciencia^1c la carrera que tenemos por delante, 2 puestos los ojos en¹ Jesús, el autor y consumador² de la fe^a, quien por el gozo puesto delante de Él soportó la cruz^b, menospreciando la vergüenza^c, y se ha sentado a la diestra del trono de Dios^d. 3 Considerad, pues, a aquel que soportó tal hostilidad de¹ los pecadores contra sí mismo^a, para que no os canséis ni os desaniméis en vuestro corazón^2b. 4 Porque todavía, en vuestra lucha contra el pecado, no habéis resistido^a hasta el punto de derramar sangre^1b; 5 además, habéis olvidado la exhortación que como a hijos se os dirige:HIJO MÍO, NO TENGAS EN POCO LA DISCIPLINA DEL SEÑOR,NI TE DESANIMES^a AL SER REPRENDIDO POR ÉL^b;

7 Es para vuestra corrección¹ que sufrís²; Dios os trata como a hijos^a; porque ¿qué hijo hay a quien su padre no discipline? 8 Pero si estáis sin disciplina, de la cual todos han sido hechos participantes, entonces sois hijos ilegítimos y no hijos verdaderos^a. 9 Además, tuvimos padres terrenales¹ para disciplinarnos, y los respetábamos^a, ¿con cuánta más razón no estaremos sujetos al Padre de nuestros² espíritus^b, y viviremos^c? 10 Porque ellos nos disciplinaban por pocos días como les parecía, pero Él nos disciplina para nuestro bien, para que participemos de su santidad^a. 11 Al presente ninguna¹ disciplina parece ser² causa de gozo, sino de tristeza^3a; sin embargo, a los que han sido ejercitados⁴ por medio de⁵ ella, les da después fruto apacible de justicia^b. 12 Por tanto, fortaleced¹ las manos débiles² y las rodillas que flaquean^a, 13 y haced sendas derechas para vuestros pies^a, para que la pierna coja no se descoyunte, sino que se sane^b.

14 Buscad¹ la paz con todos^a y la santidad^b, sin la cual nadie verá al Señor^c. 15 Mirad bien de que nadie deje de alcanzar la gracia de Dios^a; de que ninguna raíz de amargura^b, brotando, cause dificultades y por ella muchos sean contaminados^c; 16 de que no haya ninguna persona inmoral^a ni profana^b como Esaú, que vendió su primogenitura por una comida^c. 17 Porque sabéis que aun después, cuando quiso heredar la bendición, fue rechazado, pues no halló ocasión para el arrepentimiento, aunque la buscó con lágrimas^a.

18 Porque no os habéis acercado^a a un monte que se puede tocar, ni a fuego ardiente, ni a tinieblas, ni a oscuridad, ni a torbellino^b, 19 ni a sonido de trompeta^a, ni a ruido de palabras^b tal, que los que oyeron rogaron que no se les hablara más^c; 20 porque no podían soportar el mandato: SI AUN UNA BESTIA TOCA EL MONTE, SERÁ APEDREADA^1a. 21 Tan terrible era el espectáculo, que Moisés dijo: ESTOY ATERRADO Y TEMBLANDO^a. 22 Vosotros, en cambio, os habéis acercado al monte Sión^a y a la ciudad^b del Dios vivo^c, la Jerusalén celestial^d, y a miríadas de ángeles^e, 23 a la asamblea general¹ e iglesia de los primogénitos^a que están inscritos en los cielos^b, y a Dios, el Juez de todos^c, y a los espíritus de los justos hechos ya perfectos^d, 24 y a Jesús, el mediador del nuevo pacto^a, y a la sangre rociada^b que habla mejor que la sangre de Abel^c. 25 Mirad que no rechacéis^a al que habla^b. Porque siaquellos no escaparon^1c cuando rechazaron^d al que les amonestó² sobre la tierra^e, mucho menos³ escaparemos nosotros si nos apartamos de aquel que nos amonesta⁴ desde el cielo^f. 26 Su voz hizo temblar entonces la tierra^a, pero ahora Él ha prometido, diciendo: AÚN UNA VEZ MÁS, YO HARÉ TEMBLAR NO SOLO LA TIERRA, SINO TAMBIÉN EL CIELO^b. 27 Y esta expresión: Aún, una vez más, indica la remoción de las cosas movibles^a, como las cosas creadas, a fin de que permanezcan las cosas que son inconmovibles. 28 Por lo cual, puesto que recibimos un reino que es inconmovible^a, demostremos¹ gratitud, mediante la cual ofrezcamos a Dios un servicio aceptable^b con temor y reverencia; 29 porque nuestro Dios es fuego consumidor^a.

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also ^alay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us ^brun with ^cendurance the race that is set before us, 2 ¹fixing our eyes on Jesus, the ^2aauthor and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him ^bendured the cross, ^cdespising the shame, and has ^dsat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3 For ^aconsider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary ^1band lose heart.

4 ^aYou have not yet resisted ^1bto the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin; 5 and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons,“^aMY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD,NOR ^bFAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM;

7 It is for discipline that you endure; ^aGod deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 But if you are without discipline, ^aof which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. 9 Furthermore, we had ¹earthly fathers to discipline us, and we ^arespected them; shall we not much rather be subject to ^bthe Father of ²spirits, and ^clive? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, ^aso that we may share His holiness. 11 All discipline ^afor the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the ^bpeaceful fruit of righteousness.

12 Therefore, ^1astrengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble, 13 and ^amake straight paths for your feet, so that the limb which is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather ^bbe healed.

14 ^aPursue peace with all men, and the ^bsanctification without which no one will ^csee the Lord. 15 See to it that no one ^acomes short of the grace of God; that no ^broot of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be ^cdefiled; 16 that there be no ^aimmoral or ^bgodless person like Esau, ^cwho sold his own birthright for a single meal. 17 For you know that even afterwards, ^awhen he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought for it with tears.

18 ^aFor you have not come to ^ba mountain that can be touched and to a blazing fire, and to darkness and gloom and whirlwind, 19 and to the ^ablast of a trumpet and the ^bsound of words which sound was such that those who heard ^cbegged that no further word be spoken to them. 20 For they could not bear the command, “^aIF EVEN A BEAST TOUCHES THE MOUNTAIN, IT WILL BE STONED.” 21 And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, “^aI AM FULL OF FEAR and trembling.” 22 But ^ayou have come to Mount Zion and to ^bthe city of ^cthe living God, ^dthe heavenly Jerusalem, and to ^emyriads of ¹angels, 23 to the general assembly and ^achurch of the firstborn who ^bare enrolled in heaven, and to God, ^cthe Judge of all, and to the ^dspirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 and to Jesus, the ^amediator of a new covenant, and to the ^bsprinkled blood, which speaks better than ^cthe blood of Abel.

25 ^aSee to it that you do not refuse Him who is ^bspeaking. For ^cif those did not escape when they ^drefused him who ^ewarned them on earth, ¹much less will we escape who turn away from Him who ^fwarns from heaven. 26 And ^aHis voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, “^bYET ONCE MORE I WILL SHAKE NOT ONLY THE EARTH, BUT ALSO THE HEAVEN.” 27 This expression, “Yet once more,” denotes ^athe removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Therefore, since we receive a ^akingdom which cannot be shaken, let us ¹show gratitude, by which we may ^boffer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; 29 for ^aour God is a consuming fire.
