El primer relato que escribí¹, Teófilo^a, trató de todo lo que Jesús comenzó a hacer y a enseñar^b, 2 hasta el día en que fue recibido arriba^a, después de que por el Espíritu Santo^b había dado instrucciones a los apóstoles^c que había escogido^d. 3 Aestos¹ también, después de su padecimiento, se presentó vivo con² muchas pruebas convincentes, apareciéndoseles durante cuarenta días^a y hablándoles de lo concerniente al reino de Dios^b. 4 Y reuniéndolos¹, les mandó que no salieran de Jerusalén^a, sino que esperaran la promesa del Padre^b: La cual, les dijo, oísteis de mí; 5 pues Juan bautizó con agua, pero vosotros seréis bautizados con¹ el Espíritu Santo^a dentro de pocos días^2b.

6 Entonces los que estaban reunidos, le preguntaban, diciendo: Señor, ¿restaurarás en este tiempo^a el reino a Israel? 7 Y Él les dijo: No os corresponde a vosotros saber los tiempos ni las épocas que el Padre ha fijado con su propia autoridad^a; 8 pero recibiréis poder cuando el Espíritu Santo venga sobre vosotros^a; y me seréis testigos^b en Jerusalén, en toda Judea y Samaria^c, y hasta los confines de la tierra^d. 9 Después de haber dicho estas cosas, fue elevado mientras ellos miraban, y una nube le recibió^a y le ocultó de sus ojos. 10 Y estando mirando fijamente al cielo mientras Él ascendía¹, aconteció² que se presentaron junto a ellos dos varones en vestiduras blancas^a, 11 que¹ les dijeron: Varones galileos^a, ¿por qué estáis mirando al cielo? Este mismo Jesús, que ha sido tomado de vosotros al cielo^b, vendrá de la misma manera^c, tal como le habéis visto ir al cielo.

12 Entonces regresaron a Jerusalén^a desde el monte llamado de los Olivos^1b, que está cerca de Jerusalén, camino de un día de reposo. 13 Cuando hubieron entrado en la ciudad, subieron al aposento alto^a donde estaban hospedados, ^bPedro, Juan, Jacobo¹ y Andrés, Felipe y Tomás, Bartolomé y Mateo, Jacobo² hijo de Alfeo, Simón el Zelote y Judas^c, hijo³ de Jacobo⁴. 14 Todosestos estaban unánimes, entregados de continuo a la oración^a junto con las mujeres¹, y con María^b la madre de Jesús^c, y con los hermanos de Él^d.

15 Por aquel tiempo¹ Pedro se puso de pie en medio de los hermanos^a (un grupo como de ciento veinte personas² estaba reunido allí), y dijo: 16 Hermanos¹, tenía que cumplirse la Escritura^a en que por boca de David el Espíritu Santo predijo acerca de Judas, el que se hizo guía de los que prendieron a Jesús^b. 17 Porque era contado entre nosotros^a y recibió parte en este ministerio^b. 18 (Este, pues, con el precio de su infamia^1a adquirió un terreno^b, y cayendo de cabeza se reventó por el medio, y todas sus entrañas se derramaron. 19 Y esto llegó al conocimiento de todos los que habitaban en Jerusalén, de manera que aquel terreno se llamó en su propia lengua^1a Acéldama, es decir, campo de sangre.) 20 Pues en el libro de los Salmos está escrito:QUE SEA HECHA DESIERTA SU MORADA,Y NO HAYA QUIEN HABITE EN ELLA^a;y:QUE OTRO TOME SU CARGO^1b. 21 Por tanto, es necesario que de los hombres que nos han acompañado todo el tiempo que el Señor Jesús vivió¹ entre nosotros^a, 22 comenzando desde el bautismo de Juan^a, hasta el día en que de entre nosotros^b fue recibido arriba, uno sea constituido testigo con nosotros de su resurrección^c. 23 Presentaron a dos: a José, llamado Barsabás (al que también llamaban Justo) y a Matías^a. 24 Y habiendo orado^a, dijeron: Tú, Señor, que conoces el corazón^b de todos, muéstranos a cuál de estos dos has escogido 25 para ocupar¹ este ministerio^a y apostolado^b, del cual Judas se desvió para irse al lugar que le correspondía. 26 Echaron¹ suertes^a y la suerte cayó sobre Matías^b, y fue contado² con los once apóstoles^c.

The first account I ¹composed, ^aTheophilus, about all that Jesus ^bbegan to do and teach, 2 until the day when He ^awas taken up to heaven, after He ^bhad ¹by the Holy Spirit given orders to ^cthe apostles whom He had ^dchosen. 3 To ¹these ^aHe also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of ^bthe things concerning the kingdom of God. 4 ¹Gathering them together, He commanded them ^anot to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for ^2bwhat the Father had promised, “Which,” He said, “you heard of from Me; 5 for ^aJohn baptized with water, but you will be baptized ¹with the Holy Spirit ^2bnot many days from now.”

6 So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, ^ais it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which ^athe Father has fixed by His own authority; 8 but you will receive power ^awhen the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be ^bMy witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and ^cSamaria, and even to ^dthe remotest part of the earth.”

9 And after He had said these things, ^aHe was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10 And as they were gazing intently into ¹the sky while He was going, behold, ^atwo men in white clothing stood beside them. 11 They also said, “^aMen of Galilee, why do you stand looking into ¹the sky? This Jesus, who ^bhas been taken up from you into heaven, will ^ccome in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.”

12 Then they ^areturned to Jerusalem from the ^1bmount called ²Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a ³Sabbath day’s journey away. 13 When they had entered the city, they went up to ^athe upper room where they were staying; ^bthat is, Peter and John and ¹James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, ²James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and ^cJudas the ³son of ⁴James. 14 These all with one mind ^awere continually devoting themselves to prayer, along with ^bthe women, and Mary the ^cmother of Jesus, and with His ^dbrothers.

15 ¹At this time Peter stood up in the midst of ^athe brethren (a gathering of about one hundred and twenty ²persons was there together), and said, 16 “Brethren, ^athe Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit foretold by the mouth of David concerning Judas, ^bwho became a guide to those who arrested Jesus. 17 For he was ^acounted among us and received his share in ^bthis ministry.” 18 (Now this man ^aacquired a field with ^bthe price of his wickedness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out. 19 And it became known to all who were living in Jerusalem; so that in ^atheir own language that field was called Hakeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) 20 “For it is written in the book of Psalms,‘^aLET HIS HOMESTEAD BE MADE DESOLATE,AND LET NO ONE DWELL IN IT’;and,‘^bLET ANOTHER MAN TAKE HIS ¹OFFICE.’ 21 Therefore it is necessary that of the men who have accompanied us all the time that ^athe Lord Jesus went in and out ¹among us— 22 ^abeginning ¹with the baptism of John until the day that He ^bwas taken up from us—one of these must become a ^cwitness with us of His resurrection.” 23 So they put forward two men, Joseph called Barsabbas (who was also called Justus), and ^aMatthias. 24 And they ^aprayed and said, “You, Lord, ^bwho know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two You have chosen 25 to ¹occupy ^athis ministry and ^bapostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.” 26 And they ^1adrew lots for them, and the lot fell ²to ^bMatthias; and he was ³added to ^cthe eleven apostles.
