Los inevitables juicios de Dios

Esto¹ me mostró el Señor DIOS²: He aquí, había una canasta de fruta de verano, 2 y Él dijo: ¿Qué ves, Amós? Y respondí: Una canasta de fruta^a de verano. Entonces el SEÑOR me dijo: Ha llegado el fin^b para mi pueblo Israel. Ya no volveré a dejarlos sin castigo¹^c. 3 Los cantos^a del palacio se convertirán en gemido¹^b en aquel día—declara el Señor DIOS. Muchos serán los cadáveres; en todo lugar los echarán fuera² en silencio³^c.

4 Oíd esto, los que pisoteáis¹ a los menesterosos, y queréis exterminar a los pobres de la tierra^a, 5 diciendo:¿Cuándo pasará la luna nueva^apara vender el grano,y el día de reposo^b para abrir el mercado de trigo,achicar el efa¹, aumentar el siclo²y engañar con balanzas falsas³^c;

6 para comprar por dinero a los desvalidosy a los pobres por un par de sandalias^a,y vender los desechos del trigo?

7 El SEÑOR ha jurado^a por el orgullo de Jacob^b:Ciertamente, nunca me olvidaré de ninguna de sus obras^c.8 ¿No temblará por esto la tierra^a,y hará duelo todo aquel que habita en ella^b?Subirá toda ella como el Nilo^c,se agitaráy menguará como el Nilo de Egipto.9 Y sucederá que en aquel día—declara el Señor DIOS—yo haré que el sol se ponga al mediodíay que la tierra en pleno día¹ se oscurezca^a.10 Entonces cambiaré vuestras fiestas en llanto^ay todos vuestros cantos en lamento¹;pondré cilicio sobre todo lomoy calvicie sobre toda cabeza^b;haré que sea como duelo por hijo único,y su fin, como día de amargura^c.

11 He aquí, vienen días—declara el Señor DIOS—en que enviaré hambre sobre la tierra,no hambre de pan, ni sed de agua,sino de oír las palabras del SEÑOR^a.12 Y vagarán de mar a mar,y del norte hasta el oriente;andarán de aquí para allá en busca de la palabra del SEÑOR,pero no la encontrarán^a.13 En aquel día las doncellas hermosasy los jóvenes^a desfallecerán de sed^b.14 Los que juran por el pecado¹ de Samaria^a,y dicen: «Viva tu dios, oh Dan^b»,y «Viva el camino de Beerseba^c»,caerán y nunca más se levantarán^d.

Basket of Fruit and Israel’s Captivity

Thus the Lord ¹GOD showed me, and behold, there was a basket of summer fruit. 2 He said, “What do you see, Amos?” And ^aI said, “A basket of summer fruit.” Then the LORD said to me, “The ^bend has come for My people Israel. I will ¹^cspare them no longer. 3 ¹The ^asongs of the palace will turn to ^bwailing in that day,” declares the Lord GOD. “Many will be the ^ccorpses; in every place ²they will cast them forth ³in silence.”

4 Hear this, you who ¹^atrample the needy, to do away with the humble of the land, 5 saying,“When will the ^anew moon ¹be over,So that we may sell grain,And the ^bsabbath, that we may open the wheat market,To make the ²bushel smaller and the shekel bigger,And to ^ccheat with ³dishonest scales,

6 So as to ^abuy the helpless for ¹moneyAnd the needy for a pair of sandals,And that we may sell the refuse of the wheat?”

7 The LORD has ^asworn by the ^bpride of Jacob,“Indeed, I will ^cnever forget any of their deeds.8 “Because of this will not the land ^aquakeAnd everyone who dwells in it ^bmourn?Indeed, all of it will ^crise up like the Nile,And it will be tossed aboutAnd subside like the Nile of Egypt.9 “It will come about in that day,” declares the Lord GOD,“That I will make the ^asun go down at noonAnd ^bmake the earth dark in ¹broad daylight.10 “Then I will ^aturn your festivals into mourningAnd all your songs into ¹lamentation;And I will bring ^bsackcloth on everyone’s loinsAnd baldness on every head.And I will make it ^clike a time of mourning for an only son,And the end of it will be like a bitter day.

11 “Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord GOD,“When I will send a famine on the land,Not a famine for bread or a thirst for water,But rather ^afor hearing the words of the LORD.12 “People will stagger from sea to seaAnd from the north even to the east;They will go to and fro to ^aseek the word of the LORD,But they will not find it.13 “In that day the beautiful ^avirginsAnd the young men will ^bfaint from thirst.14 “As for those who swear by the ¹^aguilt of Samaria,Who say, ‘As your god lives, O ^bDan,’And, ‘As the way of ^cBeersheba lives,’They will fall and ^dnot rise again.”
