Humillación de Edom

Visión de Abdías.Así dice el Señor DIOS¹ acerca de Edom^a:Hemos oído un mensaje del SEÑOR^b,y un mensajero ha sido enviado a las naciones^c, diciendo:Levantaos y alcémonos contra él en batalla^d.

2 He aquí, te haré pequeño entre las naciones^a;despreciado eres en gran manera.3 La soberbia de tu corazón te ha engañado^a,tú que habitas en las hendiduras de la peña¹^b,en las alturas de tu morada;que dices en tu corazón:«¿Quién me derribará por tierra^c?».4 Aunque te remontes^a como el águila,y aunque entre las estrellas^b pongas tu nido,de allí te derribaré—declara el SEÑOR.5 Si vinieran a ti ladroneso salteadores de noche¹^a(¡cómo quedarías arruinado!),¿no robarían hasta que les bastara?²Si vinieran a ti vendimiadores,¿no dejarían rebuscos^b?6 ¡Cómo será escudriñado Esaú^a,y rebuscados sus tesoros escondidos!7 Hasta la frontera te echarántodos tus aliados¹^a;te engañarán, te dominaránlos que están en paz contigo;los que comen tu pantenderán emboscada contra ti^b.(No hay entendimiento en él²^c.)8 ¿No destruiré en aquel día—declara el SEÑOR—a los sabios de Edom^ay el entendimiento del monte de Esaú?9 Entonces tus valientes serán atemorizados^a, oh Temán^b,de modo que todo hombre será cortado del monte de Esaú con muerte violenta^c.

10 Por la violencia contra tu hermano Jacob^a,te cubrirá la vergüenza,y serás cortado para siempre^b.11 El día que te pusiste a un lado^a,el día en que extraños se llevaban su riqueza,y extranjeros entraban por su puertay sobre Jerusalén echaban suertes^b,tú también eras como uno de ellos^c.12 No te alegres¹ en el día de tu hermano,en el día de su exterminio^a;no te alegres de los hijos de Judá^ben el día de su destrucción;sí, no te jactes²^cen el día de su angustia.13 No entres por la puerta de mi puebloen el día de su ruina^a.Sí, no te alegres tú de¹ su desgraciaen el día de su ruina;no te apoderes de sus riquezas^ben el día de su ruina.14 No te apostes en la encrucijadapara exterminar a sus fugitivos^a,y no entregues a sus sobrevivientesen el día de su angustia.

Restauración de Israel

15 Porque se acerca el día del SEÑOR sobre todas las naciones^a.Como tú has hecho, te será hecho^b;tus acciones recaerán sobre tu cabeza^c.16 Como vosotros bebisteis^a en mi santo monte^b,así beberán continuamente todas las naciones.Beberán y tragarán¹^c,y serán como si no hubieran sido.17 Pero en el monte Sión quedará un remanente,y será lugar santo^a,y la casa de Jacob volverá a tomar sus posesiones^b.18 Entonces la casa de Jacob será un fuego^a,y la casa de José una llama,y rastrojo la casa de Esaú.Los¹ quemarán y los² consumirán,y no quedará sobreviviente^b alguno de la casa de Esaú—porque el SEÑOR ha hablado.19 Entonces los del Neguev¹ poseerán el monte de Esaú^a,y los de la Sefela²^b la llanura de los filisteos^c;poseerán también el territorio de Efraín y el territorio de Samaria^d,y Benjamín poseerá Galaad.20 Y los desterrados de este ejército de los hijos de Israelque están entre los cananeos hasta Sarepta^a,y los desterrados de Jerusalén que están en Sefarad,poseerán las ciudades del Neguev^b.21 Y subirán libertadores^a al monte Siónpara juzgar al monte de Esaú,y el reino será del SEÑOR^b.

Edom Will Be Humbled

The vision of Obadiah.Thus says the Lord ¹GOD concerning ^aEdom—^bWe have heard a report from the LORD,And an ^cenvoy has been sent among the nations saying,“^dArise and let us go against her for battle”—

2 “Behold, I will make you ^asmall among the nations;You are greatly despised.3 “The ^aarrogance of your heart has deceived you,You who live in the clefts of ¹the ^brock,In the loftiness of your dwelling place,Who say in your heart,‘^cWho will bring me down to earth?’4 “Though you ^abuild high like the eagle,Though you set your nest among the ^bstars,From there I will bring you down,” declares the LORD.5 “If ^athieves came to you,If ¹robbers by night—O how you will be ruined!—Would they not steal only ²until they had enough?If grape gatherers came to you,^bWould they not leave some gleanings?6 “O how Esau will be ^aransacked,And his hidden treasures searched out!7 “All the ^amen ¹allied with youWill send you forth to the border,And the men at peace with youWill deceive you and overpower you.They who eat your ^bbreadWill set an ambush for you.(There is ^cno understanding ²in him.)8 “Will I not on that day,” declares the LORD,“^aDestroy wise men from EdomAnd understanding from the mountain of Esau?9 “Then your ^amighty men will be dismayed, O ^bTeman,So that everyone may be ^ccut off from the mountain of Esau by slaughter.

10 “Because of ^aviolence to your brother Jacob,¹You will be covered with shame,^bAnd you will be cut off forever.11 “On the day that you ^astood aloof,On the day that strangers carried off his wealth,And foreigners entered his gateAnd ^bcast lots for Jerusalem—^cYou too were as one of them.12 “^aDo not ¹gloat over your brother’s day,The day of his misfortune.And ^bdo not rejoice over the sons of JudahIn the day of their destruction;Yes, ^cdo not ²boastIn the day of their distress.13 “Do not enter the gate of My peopleIn the ^aday of their disaster.Yes, you, do not ¹gloat over their calamityIn the day of their disaster.And do not ^bloot their wealthIn the day of their disaster.14 “Do not ^astand at the fork of the roadTo cut down their fugitives;And do not imprison their survivorsIn the day of their distress.

The Day of the LORD and the Future

15 “For the ^aday of the LORD draws near on all the nations.^bAs you have done, it will be done to you.Your ^cdealings will return on your own head.16 “Because just as you ^adrank on ^bMy holy mountain,All the nations ^cwill drink continually.They will drink and ¹swallowAnd become as if they had never existed.17 “But on Mount ^aZion there will be those who escape,And it will be holy.And the house of Jacob will ^bpossess their possessions.18 “Then the house of Jacob will be a ^afireAnd the house of Joseph a flame;But the house of Esau will be as stubble.And they will set ¹them on fire and consume ²them,So that there will be ^bno survivor of the house of Esau,”For the LORD has spoken.19 Then those of the ¹Negev will ^apossess the mountain of Esau,And those of the ²Shephelah the ^bPhilistine plain;Also, ^cpossess the territory of Ephraim and the territory of Samaria,And Benjamin will possess Gilead.20 And the exiles of this host of the sons of Israel,Who are among the Canaanites as far as ^aZarephath,And the exiles of Jerusalem who are in SepharadWill possess the ^bcities of the Negev.21 The ^adeliverers will ascend Mount ZionTo judge the mountain of Esau,And the ^bkingdom will be the LORD’S.

10 “Because of ^aviolence to your brother Jacob,Shame will cover you,^bAnd you will be eliminated forever.11 “On the day that you ^astood aloof,On the day that strangers carried off his wealth,And foreigners entered his gateAnd ^bcast lots for Jerusalem—^cYou too were as one of them.12 “^aDo not ¹gloat over your brother’s day,The day of his misfortune.And ^bdo not rejoice over the sons of JudahOn the day of their destruction;Yes, ^cdo not ²boastOn the day of their distress.13 “Do not enter the gate of My peopleOn the ^aday of their disaster.You indeed, do not ¹gloat over their catastropheOn the day of their disaster.And do not ^blay a hand on their wealthOn the day of their disaster.14 “Do not ^astand at the crossroadsTo eliminate their survivors;And do not hand over their refugeesOn the day of their distress.

The Day of the LORD and the Future
