Después de esto, se celebraba¹ una fiesta² de los judíos, y Jesús subió a Jerusalén^a. 2 Y hay en Jerusalén, junto a la puerta de las ovejas^a, un estanque que en hebreo^1b se llama Betesda² y que tiene cinco pórticos. 3 Enestos yacía una multitud de enfermos, ciegos, cojos y paralíticos ¹que esperaban el movimiento del agua; 4 porque un ángel del Señor descendía de vez en cuando al estanque y agitaba el agua; y el primero que descendía al estanque después del movimiento del agua, quedaba curado de cualquier enfermedad que tuviera. 5 Y estaba allí un hombre que hacía treinta y ocho años que estaba enfermo¹. 6 Cuando Jesús lo vio acostado allí y supo que ya llevaba mucho tiempo en aquella condición, le dijo*: ¿Quieres ser sano? 7 El enfermo le respondió: Señor, no tengo a nadie que me meta en el estanque cuando el agua es agitada^a; y mientras yo llego, otro baja antes que yo. 8 Jesús le dijo*: Levántate, toma tu camilla^a y anda. 9 Y al instante el hombre quedó sano, y tomó su camilla y echó a andar.Jesús censurado por sanar en el día de reposo

Y aquel día era día de reposo^a. 10 Por eso los judíos^a decían al que fue sanado: Es día de reposo, y no te es permitido cargar tu camilla^b. 11 Pero él les respondió: El mismo que me sanó, me dijo: «Toma tu camilla y anda». 12 Le preguntaron: ¿Quién es el hombre que te dijo: «Toma tu camilla y anda»? 13 Pero el que había sido sanado no sabía quién era, porque Jesús, sigilosamente, se había apartado de la multitud que estaba en aquel lugar. 14 Después de esto Jesús lo halló* en el templo y le dijo: Mira, has sido sanado; no peques más^a, para que no te suceda algo peor^b. 15 El hombre se fue, y dijo a los judíos^a que Jesús era el que lo había sanado. 16 A causa de esto los judíos^a perseguían a Jesús, porque hacía estas cosas en el día de reposo. 17 Pero Él les respondió: Hasta ahora mi Padre trabaja, y yo también trabajo. 18 Entonces, por esta causa, los judíos^a aún más procuraban matarle, porque nosolo violaba el día de reposo^b, sino que también llamaba a Dios su propio Padre, haciéndose igual a Dios^c.

19 Por eso Jesús, respondiendo, les decía: En verdad, en verdad os digo que el Hijo no puede hacer nada por su cuenta^a, sino lo que ve hacer al Padre; porque todo lo que hace el Padre¹, eso también hace el Hijo de igual manera. 20 Pues el Padre ama al Hijo^a, y le muestra todo lo que Él mismo hace; y obras mayores queestas^b le mostrará, para que os admiréis. 21 Porque así como el Padre levanta a los muertos y les da vida^a, asimismo el Hijo también da vida^b a los que Él quiere. 22 Porque ni aun el Padre juzga a nadie, sino que todo juicio se lo ha confiado¹ al Hijo^a, 23 para que todos honren al Hijo así como honran al Padre. El que no honra al Hijo, no honra al Padre que le envió^a. 24 En verdad, en verdad os digo: el que oye mi palabra y cree al que me envió, tiene vida eterna^a y no viene a condenación^1b, sino que ha pasado de muerte a vida^c. 25 En verdad, en verdad os digo que viene la hora, y ahora es^a, cuando los muertos^b oirán la voz del Hijo de Dios, y los que oigan^c vivirán. 26 Porque así como el Padre tiene vida en sí mismo, así también le dio al Hijo el tener vida en sí mismo^a; 27 y le dio autoridad para ejecutar juicio^a, porque es el Hijo del Hombre. 28 No os admiréis de esto, porque viene la hora^a en que todos los que están en los sepulcros^b oirán su voz, 29 y saldrán: los que hicieron lo bueno, a resurrección de vida, y los que practicaron lo malo, a resurrección de juicio^a.

30 Yo no puedo hacer nada por iniciativa mía^a; como oigo, juzgo, y mi juicio es justo^b porque no busco mi voluntad, sino la voluntad del que me envió^c. 31 Si yo solo doy testimonio de mí mismo^a, mi testimonio no es verdadero¹. 32 Otro es el que da testimonio de mí^a, y yo sé que el testimonio que da de mí es verdadero. 33 Vosotros habéis enviado a preguntar a Juan, y él ha dado testimonio^a de la verdad. 34 Pero el testimonio que yo recibo no es de hombre^a; mas digo esto para que vosotros seáis salvos. 35 Él era la lámpara que ardía y alumbraba^a, y vosotros quisisteis regocijaros por un tiempo en su luz^b. 36 Pero el testimonio que yo tengo es mayor que el de Juan; porque las obras que el Padre me ha dado para llevar a cabo^a, las mismas obras que yo hago, dan testimonio de mí^b, de que el Padre me ha enviado^c. 37 Y el Padre que me envió,ese ha dado testimonio de mí^a. Pero no habéis oído jamás su voz ni habéis visto su apariencia. 38 Y su palabra no la tenéis morando en vosotros^a, porque no creéis en aquel que Él envió^b. 39 Examináis¹ las Escrituras porque vosotros pensáis que en ellas tenéis vida eterna^a; y ellas son las que dan testimonio de mí^b; 40 y no queréis venir a mí para que tengáis vida. 41 No recibo gloria de los hombres^a; 42 pero os conozco, que no tenéis el amor de Dios en vosotros. 43 Yo he venido en nombre de mi Padre y no me recibís; si otro viene en su propio nombre^a, aese recibiréis. 44 ¿Cómo podéis creer, cuando recibís gloria¹ los unos de los otros^a, y no buscáis la gloria² que viene del Dios único^b? 45 No penséis que yo os acusaré delante del Padre; el que os acusa es Moisés^a, en quien vosotros habéis puesto vuestra esperanza. 46 Porque si creyerais a Moisés, me creeríais a mí, porque de mí escribió él^a. 47 Pero si no creéis sus escritos^a, ¿cómo creeréis mis palabras?

After these things there was ^aa feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

2 Now there is in Jerusalem by ^athe sheep gate a pool, which is called ^bin ¹Hebrew ²Bethesda, having five porticoes. 3 In these lay a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, and withered, ¹[waiting for the moving of the waters; 4 for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool and stirred up the water; whoever then first, after the stirring up of the water, stepped in was made well from whatever disease with which he was afflicted.] 5 A man was there who had been ¹ill for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had already been a long time in that condition, He *said to him, “Do you wish to get well?” 7 The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when ^athe water is stirred up, but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” 8 Jesus *said to him, “^aGet up, pick up your pallet and walk.” 9 Immediately the man became well, and picked up his pallet and began to walk.

^aNow it was the Sabbath on that day. 10 So ^athe Jews were saying to the man who was cured, “It is the Sabbath, and ^bit is not permissible for you to carry your pallet.” 11 But he answered them, “He who made me well was the one who said to me, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk.’” 12 They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk’?” 13 But the man who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had slipped away while there was a crowd in that place. 14 Afterward Jesus *found him in the temple and said to him, “Behold, you have become well; do not ^asin anymore, ^bso that nothing worse happens to you.” 15 The man went away, and told ^athe Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well. 16 For this reason ^athe Jews were persecuting Jesus, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath. 17 But He answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working.”

18 For this reason therefore ^athe Jews ^bwere seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, ^cmaking Himself equal with God.

19 Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, ^athe Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever ¹the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner. 20 ^aFor the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him ^bgreater works than these, so that you will marvel. 21 For just as the Father raises the dead and ^agives them life, even so ^bthe Son also gives life to whom He wishes. 22 For not even the Father judges anyone, but ^aHe has given all judgment to the Son, 23 so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. ^aHe who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and ^abelieves Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and ^bdoes not come into judgment, but has ^cpassed out of death into life.

25 Truly, truly, I say to you, ^aan hour is coming and now is, when ^bthe dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who ^chear will live. 26 For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He ^agave to the Son also to have life in Himself; 27 and He gave Him authority to ^aexecute judgment, because He is ¹the Son of Man. 28 Do not marvel at this; for ^aan hour is coming, in which ^ball who are in the tombs will hear His voice, 29 and will come forth; ^athose who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.

30 “^aI can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and ^bMy judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but ^cthe will of Him who sent Me.

31 “^aIf I alone testify about Myself, My testimony is not ¹true. 32 There is ^aanother who testifies of Me, and I know that the testimony which He gives about Me is true.

33 You have sent to John, and he ^ahas testified to the truth. 34 But ^athe testimony which I receive is not from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved. 35 He was ^athe lamp that was burning and was shining and you ^bwere willing to rejoice for ¹a while in his light.

36 But the testimony which I have is greater than the testimony of John; for ^athe works which the Father has given Me ^bto accomplish—the very works that I do—testify about Me, that the Father ^chas sent Me.

37 And the Father who sent Me, ^aHe has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time nor seen His form. 38 You do not have ^aHis word abiding in you, for you do not believe Him whom He ^bsent.

39 ^1aYou search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is ^bthese that testify about Me; 40 and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life. 41 ^aI do not receive glory from men; 42 but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves. 43 I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; ^aif another comes in his own name, you will receive him. 44 How can you believe, when you ^areceive ¹glory from one another and you do not seek ^bthe ²glory that is from ^cthe one and only God? 45 Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father; the one who accuses you is ^aMoses, in whom you have set your hope. 46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for ^ahe wrote about Me. 47 But ^aif you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”

After these things there was ^aa feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
