Estas cosas os he dicho^a para que no tengáis tropiezo^1b. 2 Os expulsarán de las sinagogas^a; pero viene la hora^b cuando cualquiera que os mate pensará que así rinde un servicio a Dios^c. 3 Y harán estas cosas porque no han conocido ni al Padre ni a mí^a. 4 Pero os he dicho estas cosas para que cuando llegue la¹ hora^a, os acordéis de que ya os había hablado de ellas². Y no os dije estas cosas al principio^b, porque yo estaba con vosotros. 5 Pero ahora voy al que me envió^a, y ninguno de vosotros me pregunta: «¿Adónde vas^b?». 6 Mas porque os he dicho estas cosas, la tristeza ha llenado vuestro corazón^a.

7 Pero yo os digo la verdad: os conviene que yo me vaya; porque si no me voy, el Consolador^1a no vendrá a vosotros; pero si me voy, os lo enviaré^b. 8 Y cuando Él venga, convencerá¹ al mundo de pecado, de justicia y de juicio; 9 de pecado, porque no creen en mí^a; 10 de justicia^a, porque yo voy al Padre^b y no me veréis más; 11 y de juicio, porque el príncipe de este mundo ha sido juzgado^a. 12 Aún tengo muchas cosas que deciros, pero ahora no las podéis soportar. 13 Pero cuando Él, el Espíritu de verdad^a, venga, os guiará a toda la verdad, porque no hablará por su propia cuenta, sino que hablará todo lo que oiga, y os hará saber^b lo que habrá de venir. 14 El me glorificará^a, porque tomará de lo mío y os lo hará saber. 15 Todo lo que tiene el Padre es mío^a; por eso dije que Él toma de lo mío y os lo hará saber. 16 Un poco más^a, y ya no me veréis^b; y de nuevo un poco, y me veréis^c. 17 Entonces algunos de sus discípulos se decían unos a otros: ¿Qué es esto que nos dice: «Un poco más, y no me veréis, y de nuevo un poco, y me veréis^a» y «Porque yo voy al Padre^b»? 18 Por eso decían: ¿Qué es esto que dice: «Un poco»? No sabemos de qué habla. 19 Jesús sabía que querían preguntarle^a, y les dijo: ¿Estáis discutiendo entre vosotros sobre esto, porque dije: «Un poco más, y no me veréis, y de nuevo un poco, y me veréis»? 20 En verdad, en verdad os digo que lloraréis y os lamentaréis^a, pero el mundo se alegrará; estaréis tristes, pero vuestra tristeza se convertirá en alegría^b. 21 Cuando la mujer está para dar a luz, tiene aflicción^a, porque ha llegado su hora; pero cuando da a luz al niño, ya no se acuerda de la angustia, por la alegría de que un niño¹ haya nacido en el mundo. 22 Por tanto, ahora vosotros tenéis también aflicción^a; pero yo os veré otra vez^b, y vuestro corazón se alegrará, y nadie os quitará vuestro gozo. 23 En aquel día^a no me preguntaréis nada^b. En verdad, en verdad os digo: si pedís algo al Padre, os lo dará en mi nombre^c. 24 Hasta ahora nada habéis pedido en mi nombre^a; pedid y recibiréis, para que vuestro gozo sea completo^b.

25 Estas cosas os he hablado en lenguaje figurado^1a; viene el tiempo^2b cuando no os hablaré más en lenguaje figurado³, sino que os hablaré del Padre claramente. 26 En ese día^a pediréis^b en mi nombre, y no os digo que yo rogaré al Padre por vosotros, 27 pues el Padre mismo os ama, porque vosotros me habéis amado^a y habéis creído^b que yo salí del Padre^c. 28 Salí del Padre^a y he venido al mundo; de nuevo, dejo el mundo y voy al Padre^b. 29 Sus discípulos le dijeron*: He aquí que ahora hablas claramente y no usas lenguaje figurado^1a. 30 Ahora entendemos que tú sabes todas las cosas, y no necesitas que nadie te pregunte; por esto creemos^a que tú viniste de Dios^b. 31 Jesús les respondió: ¿Ahora creéis? 32 Mirad, la hora viene^a, y ya ha llegado, en que seréis esparcidos^b, cada uno por su lado^1c, y me dejaréis solo; y sin embargo no estoy solo^d, porque el Padre está conmigo. 33 Estas cosas os he hablado para que en mí tengáis paz^a. En el mundo tenéis tribulación^b; pero confiad^1c, yo he vencido al mundo^d.

“^aThese things I have spoken to you so that you may be kept from ^bstumbling. 2 ¹They will ^amake you outcasts from the synagogue, but ^ban hour is coming for everyone ^cwho kills you to think that he is offering service to God. 3 These things they will do ^abecause they have not known the Father or Me. 4 But these things I have spoken to you, ^aso that when their hour comes, you ¹may remember that I told you of them. These things I did not say to you ^bat the beginning, because I was with you.

5 “But now ^aI am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, ‘^bWhere are You going?’ 6 But because I have said these things to you, ^asorrow has filled your heart. 7 But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the ^1aHelper will not come to you; but if I go, ^bI will send Him to you. 8 And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; 9 concerning sin, ^abecause they do not believe in Me; 10 and concerning ^arighteousness, because ^bI go to the Father and you no longer see Me; 11 ^aand concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.

12 “I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 But when He, ^athe Spirit of truth, comes, He will ^bguide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. 14 He will ^aglorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. 15 ^aAll things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.

16 “^aA little while, and ^byou will no longer see Me; and again a little while, and ^cyou will see Me.” 17 Some of His disciples then said to one another, “What is this thing He is telling us, ‘^aA little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’; and, ‘because ^bI go to the Father’?” 18 So they were saying, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’? We do not know what He is talking about.” 19 ^aJesus knew that they wished to question Him, and He said to them, “Are you deliberating together about this, that I said, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me, and again a little while, and you will see Me’? 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, that ^ayou will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will grieve, but ^byour grief will be turned into joy. 21 ^aWhenever a woman is in labor she has ¹pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a ²child has been born into the world. 22 Therefore ^ayou too have grief now; but ^bI will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.

23 ^aIn that day ^byou will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, ^cif you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you. 24 ^aUntil now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your ^bjoy may be made full.

25 “These things I have spoken to you in ^1afigurative language; ^ban hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in ²figurative language, but will tell you plainly of the Father. 26 ^aIn that day ^byou will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I will request of the Father on your behalf; 27 for ^athe Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and ^bhave believed that ^cI came forth from the Father. 28 ^aI came forth from the Father and have come into the world; I am leaving the world again and ^bgoing to the Father.”

29 His disciples *said, “Lo, now You are speaking plainly and are not ¹using ^aa figure of speech. 30 Now we know that You know all things, and have no need for anyone to question You; by this we ^abelieve that You ^bcame from God.” 31 Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe? 32 Behold, ^aan hour is coming, and has already come, for ^byou to be scattered, each to ^chis own home, and to leave Me alone; and yet ^dI am not alone, because the Father is with Me. 33 These things I have spoken to you, so that ^ain Me you may have peace. ^bIn the world you have tribulation, but ^ctake courage; ^dI have overcome the world.”

12 “I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them at the present time. 13 But when He, ^athe Spirit of truth, comes, He will ^bguide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. 14 He will ^aglorify Me, for He will take from Mine and will disclose it to you. 15 ^aAll things that the Father has are Mine; this is why I said that He takes from Mine and will disclose it to you.

16 “^aA little while, and ^byou no longer are going to see Me; and again a little while, and ^cyou will see Me.” 17 So some of His disciples said to one another, “What is this that He is telling us, ‘^aA little while, and you are not going to see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’; and, ‘because ^bI am going to the Father’?” 18 So they were saying, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’? 25 “These things I have spoken to you in ^afigures of speech; ^ban hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures of speech, but will tell you plainly about the Father. 26 ^aOn that day ^byou will ask in My name, and I am not saying to you that I will request of the Father on your behalf; 27 for ^athe Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and ^bhave believed that ^cI came forth from the Father. 28 ^aI came forth from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and ^bgoing to the Father.”

29 His disciples *said, “See, now You are speaking plainly and are not ¹using any ^afigure of speech. 30 Now we know that You know all things, and that You have no need for anyone to question You; this is why we ^abelieve that You ^bcame forth from God.” 31 Jesus replied to them, “Do you now believe? 32 Behold, ^aan hour is coming, and has already come, for ^byou to be scattered, each to ^chis own home, and to leave Me alone; and yet ^dI am not alone, because the Father is with Me. 33 These things I have spoken to you so that ^ain Me you may have peace. ^bIn the world you have tribulation, but ^ctake courage; ^dI have overcome the world.”
