Llamamiento y comisión de Jeremías

Palabras de Jeremías^a, hijo de Hilcías, de los sacerdotes que habitaban en Anatot, en la tierra de Benjamín^b, 2 a quien vino la palabra del SEÑOR en los días de Josías^a, hijo de Amón^b, rey de Judá, en el año trece de su reinado^c. 3 También vino a él la palabra en los días de Joacim^a, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, hasta el fin del año once de Sedequías^b, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, hasta el destierro de Jerusalén en el mes quinto.

4 Y vino a mí la palabra del SEÑOR, diciendo:

5 Antes que yo te formara en el seno materno, te conocí^a,y antes que nacieras, te consagré^b,te puse por profeta a las naciones^c.6 Entonces dije: ¡Ah, Señor DIOS¹!He aquí, no sé hablar^a,porque soy joven^b.7 Pero el SEÑOR me dijo:No digas: «Soy joven»,porque adondequiera que te envíe, irás^a,y todo lo que te mande, dirás^b.8 No tengas temor ante ellos^a,porque contigo estoy para librarte^b—declara el SEÑOR.

9 Entonces extendió el SEÑOR su mano y tocó mi boca^a. Y el SEÑOR me dijo:He aquí, he puesto mis palabras en tu boca^b.

10 Mira, hoy te he dado autoridad sobre las naciones y sobre los reinos^a,para arrancar y para derribar,para destruir y para derrocar^b,para edificar y para plantar^c.

11 Vino entonces a mí la palabra del SEÑOR, diciendo: ¿Qué ves tú, Jeremías^a? Y yo respondí: Veo una vara de almendro¹. 12 Y me dijo el SEÑOR: Bien has visto, porque yo velo¹ sobre mi palabra para cumplirla^a.

13 Por segunda vez vino a mí la palabra del SEÑOR, diciendo: ¿Qué ves tú^a? Y respondí: Veo una olla^b hirviendo que se vuelca desde el norte¹.

14 Y me dijo el SEÑOR:Desde el norte irrumpirá¹ el malsobre todos los habitantes de esta² tierra^a.15 Porque he aquí, llamoa todas las familias de los reinos del norte^a—declara el SEÑOR—y vendrán y cada uno pondrá su tronoa la entrada de las puertas^b de Jerusalén,frente a todos sus muros alrededory frente a todas las ciudades de Judá^c.16 Y yo pronunciaré¹ mis juicios contra ellospor toda su maldad, porque me abandonaron^a,ofrecieron sacrificios² a otros dioses^by adoraron la obra de sus manos^c.17 Tú, pues, ciñe tus lomos^a,levántate y diles todo lo que yo te mande.No temas ante ellos^b,no sea que yo te infunda temor delante de ellos.18 He aquí, yo te he puesto hoycomo ciudad fortificada,como columna de hierro y como muro¹ de broncecontra toda esta² tierra:contra los reyes de Judá, sus príncipes,sus sacerdotes y el pueblo de la tierra.19 Pelearán contra ti, pero no te vencerán,porque yo estoy contigo—declara el SEÑOR—para librarte^a.

Jeremiah’s Call and Commission

The words of ^aJeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in ^bAnathoth in the land of Benjamin, 2 to whom the word of the LORD came in the days of ^aJosiah the son of ^bAmon, king of Judah, in the ^cthirteenth year of his reign. 3 It came also in the days of ^aJehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of ^bZedekiah the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the exile of Jerusalem in the fifth month.

4 Now the word of the LORD came to me saying,

5 “Before I ^aformed you in the womb I knew you,And ^bbefore you were born I consecrated you;I have ^cappointed you a prophet to the nations.”6 Then ^aI said, “Alas, Lord ¹GOD!Behold, I do not know how to speak,Because ^bI am a youth.”7 But the LORD said to me,“Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’^aBecause everywhere I send you, you shall go,And ^ball that I command you, you shall speak.8 “^aDo not be afraid of them,For ^bI am with you to deliver you,” declares the LORD.

9 Then the LORD stretched out His hand and ^atouched my mouth, and the LORD said to me,“Behold, I have ^bput My words in your mouth.

10 “See, ^aI have appointed you this day over the nations and over the kingdoms,^bTo pluck up and to break down,To destroy and to overthrow,^cTo build and to plant.”

The Almond Rod and Boiling Pot

11 The word of the LORD came to me saying, “What do you see, ^aJeremiah?” And I said, “I see a rod of an ¹almond tree.” 12 Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for ^aI am ¹watching over My word to perform it.”

13 The word of the LORD came to me a second time saying, “^aWhat do you see?” And I said, “I see a boiling ^bpot, facing away from the north.” 14 Then the LORD said to me, “^aOut of the north the evil ¹will break forth on all the inhabitants of the land. 15 For, behold, I am calling ^aall the families of the kingdoms of the north,” declares the LORD; “and they will come and they will ^bset each one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls round about and against all the ^ccities of Judah. 16 I will ¹pronounce My judgments on them concerning all their wickedness, whereby they have ^aforsaken Me and have ²^boffered sacrifices to other gods, and worshiped the ^cworks of their own hands. 17 Now, ^agird up your loins and arise, and speak to them all which I command you. ^bDo not be dismayed before them, or I will dismay you before them. 18 Now behold, I have made you today as a fortified city and as a pillar of iron and as walls of bronze against the whole land, to the kings of Judah, to its princes, to its priests and to the people of the land. 19 They will fight against you, but they will not overcome you, for ^aI am with you to deliver you,” declares the LORD.

The words of ^aJeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in ^bAnathoth in the land of Benjamin, 2 to whom the word of the LORD came in the days of ^aJosiah the son of ^bAmon, king of Judah, in the ^cthirteenth year of his reign. 3 It came also in the days of ^aJehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of ^bZedekiah the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the exile of Jerusalem in the fifth month.

4 Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

5 “Before I ^aformed you in the womb I knew you,And ^bbefore you were born I consecrated you;I have ^cappointed you as a prophet to the nations.”6 Then ^aI said, “Oh, Lord ¹GOD!Behold, I do not know how to speak,Because ^bI am a youth.”7 But the LORD said to me,“Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’^aBecause everywhere I send you, you shall go,And ^ball that I command you, you shall speak.8 “^aDo not be afraid of them,For ^bI am with you to save you,” declares the LORD.

10 “See, ^aI have appointed you this day over the nations and over the kingdoms,^bTo root out and to tear down,To destroy and to overthrow,^cTo build and to plant.”

The Almond Branch and Boiling Pot

11 And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “What do you see, ^aJeremiah?” And I said, “I see a branch of an ¹almond tree.” 12 Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for ^aI am ¹watching over My word to perform it.”

13 And the word of the LORD came to me a second time, saying, “^aWhat do you see?” And I said, “I see a boiling ^bpot, facing away from the north.” 14 Then the LORD said to me, “^aOut of the north the evil ¹will be unleashed on all the inhabitants of the land. 15 For, behold, I am calling ^aall the families of the kingdoms of the north,” declares the LORD; “and they will come and ^bplace, each one of them, his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls around, and against all the ^ccities of Judah. 16 And I will ¹pronounce My judgments against them concerning all their wickedness, since they have ^aabandoned Me and have ²^boffered sacrifices to other gods, and worshiped the ^cworks of their own hands. 17 Now, ^abelt your garment around your waist and arise, and speak to them all that I command you. ^bDo not be dismayed before them, or I will make you dismayed before them. 18 Now behold, I have made you today like a fortified city and like a pillar of iron and walls of bronze against the whole land, to the kings of Judah, to its leaders, to its priests, and to the people of the land. 19 And they will fight against you but they will not overcome you, for ^aI am with you to save you,” declares the LORD.
