Invasión de Asiria

Entonces el SEÑOR me dijo: Toma para ti una tabla grande y escribe sobre ella^a en caracteres comunes¹: Veloz es el botín, rápida la presa²^b. 2 Y tomé conmigo¹ como testigos fieles al sacerdote Urías^a y a Zacarías, hijo de Jeberequías. 3 Me acerqué a la profetisa, y ella concibió y dio a luz un hijo. Y el SEÑOR me dijo: Ponle por nombre Maher-shalal-hash-baz¹^a; 4 porque antes que el niño sepa clamar^a «padre mío» o «madre mía», la riqueza de Damasco y el botín de Samaria^b serán llevados ante el rey de Asiria.

5 Y volvió el SEÑOR a hablarme de nuevo, diciendo:

6 Por cuanto este pueblo ha rehusado las aguas de Siloé que corren mansamente^a,y se ha regocijado en Rezín y en el hijo de Remalías^b,7 por tanto, he aquí, el Señor va a traer sobre ellos las aguas impetuosas y abundantes^a del Eufrates¹^b,es decir, al rey de Asiria con toda su gloria^c,que se saldrá de todos sus cauces y pasará sobre todas sus riberas^d.8 Fluirá con ímpetu en Judá, inundará y seguirá adelante^a,hasta el cuello llegará^b,y la extensión de sus alasllenará la anchura¹ de tu tierra, oh Emmanuel²^c.

9 Quebrantaos, pueblos^a, que seréis destrozados¹;prestad oído, confines todos de la tierra;ceñíos, que seréis destrozados²;ceñíos, que seréis destrozados³^b.10 Trazad un plan, y será frustrado^a;proferid una palabra, y no permanecerá^b,porque Dios está con nosotros¹^c.

11 Pues así me habló el SEÑOR con gran poder¹^a y me instruyó para que no anduviera en el camino de este pueblo^b, diciendo:

12 No digáis: «Es conspiración^a»,a todo lo que este pueblo llama conspiración,ni temáis lo que ellos temen¹, ni os aterroricéis^b.13 Al SEÑOR de los ejércitos^a es a quien debéis tener por santo^b.Sea Él vuestro temor,y sea Él vuestro terror.14 Entonces Él vendrá a ser santuario^a;pero piedra de tropiezo y roca de escándalo^bpara ambas casas de Israel,y lazo y trampa^c para los habitantes de Jerusalén.15 Muchos tropezarán allí¹,y caerán y serán quebrantados;serán enlazados y apresados^a.

16 Ata el testimonio^a, sella la ley¹^b entre mis discípulos^c. 17 Aguardaré al SEÑOR^a que esconde su rostro^b de la casa de Jacob; sí, a Él esperaré. 18 He aquí, yo y los hijos que el SEÑOR me ha dado^a estamos por señales y prodigios en Israel^b, de parte del SEÑOR de los ejércitos que mora en el monte Sión^c.

19 Y cuando os digan: Consultad a los médium y a los adivinos^a que susurran y murmuran, decid: ¿No debe un pueblo consultar a su Dios^b? ¿Acaso consultará a los muertos por los vivos^c? 20 ¡A la ley¹ y al testimonio^a! Si no hablan conforme a esta palabra, es porque no hay para ellos amanecer^b. 21 Y pasarán por la tierra¹ oprimidos y hambrientos^a; y sucederá que cuando tengan hambre, se enojarán y maldecirán a su rey² y a su Dios, volviendo el rostro hacia arriba. 22 Después mirarán hacia la tierra, y he aquí, tribulación y tinieblas, lobreguez y angustia, y serán lanzados a la oscuridad^a.

Damascus and Samaria Fall

Then the LORD said to me, “Take for yourself a large tablet and ^awrite on it ¹in ordinary letters: ²^bSwift is the booty, speedy is the prey. 2 And ¹I will take to Myself faithful witnesses for testimony, ^aUriah the priest and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.” 3 So I approached the prophetess, and she conceived and gave birth to a son. Then the LORD said to me, “Name him ¹^aMaher-shalal-hash-baz; 4 for ^abefore the boy knows how to cry out ‘My father’ or ‘My mother,’ the wealth of ^bDamascus and the spoil of Samaria will be carried away before the king of Assyria.”

5 Again the LORD spoke to me further, saying,

6 “Inasmuch as these people have ^arejected the gently flowing waters of ShiloahAnd rejoice in ^bRezin and the son of Remaliah;7 Now therefore, behold, the Lord is about to bring on them the ^astrong and abundant waters of the ¹^bEuphrates,Even the ^cking of Assyria and all his glory;And it will ^drise up over all its channels and go over all its banks.8 “Then ^ait will sweep on into Judah, it will overflow and pass through,It will ^breach even to the neck;And the spread of its wings will ¹fill the breadth of ²your land, O ^cImmanuel.

A Believing Remnant

9 “^aBe broken, O peoples, and be ¹^bshattered;And give ear, all remote places of the earth.Gird yourselves, yet be ²shattered;Gird yourselves, yet be ³shattered.10 “^aDevise a plan, but it will be thwarted;State a ¹proposal, but ^bit will not stand,For ²^cGod is with us.”

11 For thus the LORD spoke to me ¹with ^amighty power and instructed me ^bnot to walk in the way of this people, saying,

12 “You are not to say, ‘It is a ^aconspiracy!’In regard to all that this people call a conspiracy,And ^byou are not to fear ¹what they fear or be in dread of it.13 “It is the ^aLORD of hosts ^bwhom you should regard as holy.And He shall be your fear,And He shall be your dread.14 “Then He shall become a ^asanctuary;But to both the houses of Israel, a ^bstone to strike and a rock to stumble over,And a snare and a ^ctrap for the inhabitants of Jerusalem.15 “Many ^awill stumble over them,Then they will fall and be broken;They will even be snared and caught.”

16 ^aBind up the testimony, ^bseal the ¹law among ^cmy disciples. 17 And I will ^await for the LORD ^bwho is hiding His face from the house of Jacob; I will even look eagerly for Him. 18 ^aBehold, I and the children whom the LORD has given me are for ^bsigns and wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, who ^cdwells on Mount Zion.

19 When they say to you, “^aConsult the mediums and the spiritists who whisper and mutter,” should not a people ^bconsult their God? Should they ^cconsult the dead on behalf of the living? 20 To the ¹^alaw and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because ^bthey have no dawn. 21 They will pass through ¹the land ^ahard-pressed and famished, and it will turn out that when they are hungry, they will be enraged and curse ²their king and their God as they face upward. 22 Then they will ^alook to the earth, and behold, distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish; and they will be ^bdriven away into darkness.

A Believing Remnant

9 “^aBe broken, you peoples, and be ¹^bshattered;And listen, all remote places of the earth.²Get ready, yet be ³shattered;⁴Get ready, yet be ⁵shattered.10 “^aDevise a plan, but it will fail;State a ¹proposal, but ^bit will not stand,For ²^cGod is with us.”

11 For so the LORD spoke to me ¹with ^amighty power and instructed me ^bnot to walk in the way of this people, saying,
