Entonces, después de catorce años, subí otra vez a Jerusalén con Bernabé^a, llevando también a Tito^b. 2 Subí por causa de una revelación^a y les presenté el evangelio^b que predico entre los gentiles, pero lo hice en privado a los que tenían alta reputación, para cerciorarme de que no corría ni¹ había corrido en vano^c. 3 Pero ni aun Tito^a, que estaba conmigo, fue obligado a circuncidarse^b, aunque era griego. 4 Y esto fue por causa de los falsos hermanos^a introducidos secretamente, que se habían infiltrado^b para espiar la¹ libertad que tenemos en Cristo Jesús^c, a fin de someternos a esclavitud^d, 5 a los cuales ni por un momento¹ cedimos, para no someternos, a fin de que la verdad del evangelio^a permanezca con vosotros. 6 Y de aquellos que tenían reputación de ser algo^a (lo que eran, nada me importa; Dios no hace acepción de personas^1b), pues bien, los que tenían reputación, nada me enseñaron². 7 Sino al contrario, al ver que se me había encomendado el evangelio^a a los de la incircuncisión^b, así como Pedro lo había sido a los de la circuncisión^c 8 (porque aquel que obró eficazmente para con Pedro en su apostolado^a a los de la circuncisión, también obró eficazmente para conmigo en mi apostolado a los gentiles), 9 y al reconocer la gracia que se me había dado^a, Jacobo^1b, Pedro^2c y Juan, que eran considerados^d como columnas^e, nos dieron a mí y a Bernabé^f la diestra^3g de compañerismo, para que nosotros fuéramos a los gentiles^h y ellos a los de la circuncisión. 10 Solo nos pidieron que nos acordáramos de los pobres^a, lo mismo que yo estaba también deseoso de hacer.

11 Pero cuando Pedro^1a vino a Antioquía^b, me opuse a él cara a cara, porque era de condenar². 12 Porque antes de venir algunos de parte de Jacobo^1a, él comía con los gentiles^b, pero cuando vinieron, empezó a retraerse y apartarse, porque temía² a los de la circuncisión^c. 13 Y el resto de los judíos se le unió en su hipocresía, de tal manera que aun Bernabé^a fue arrastrado por la hipocresía de ellos. 14 Pero cuando vi que no andaban con rectitud^a en cuanto a la verdad del evangelio^b, dije a Pedro^1c delante de todos: Si tú, siendo judío, vives como los gentiles^d y no como los judíos, ¿por qué obligas a los gentiles a vivir como judíos? 15 Nosotros somos judíos de nacimiento^1a y no pecadores^b de entre los gentiles; 16 sin embargo, sabiendo que el hombre no es justificado por las obras de la ley^a, sino mediante la fe en Cristo Jesús, también nosotros hemos creído en Cristo Jesús, para que seamos justificados por la fe^b en Cristo, y no por las obras de la ley; puesto que por las obras de la ley nadie¹ será justificado^c. 17 Pero si buscando ser justificados en Cristo, también nosotros hemos sido hallados pecadores^a, ¿es Cristo, entonces, ministro de pecado? ¡De ningún modo^b! 18 Porque si yo reedifico lo que en otro tiempo destruí, yo mismo resulto transgresor^a. 19 Pues mediante la ley yo morí a la ley^a, a fin de vivir para Dios. 20 Con Cristo he sido crucificado^1a, y ya no soy yo el que vive, sino que Cristo vive en mí^b; y la vida que² ahora vivo en la carne, la³ vivo por fe en el Hijo de Dios^c, el cual me amó^d y se entregó a sí mismo por mí^e. 21 No hago nula la gracia de Dios, porque si la justicia viene por medio de la ley^a, entonces Cristo murió en vano¹.

Then after an interval of fourteen years I ^awent up again to Jerusalem with ^bBarnabas, taking ^cTitus along also. 2 ¹It was because of a ^arevelation that I went up; and I submitted to them the ^bgospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but I did so in private to those who were of reputation, for fear that I might be ^crunning, or had run, in vain. 3 But not even ^aTitus, who was with me, though he was a Greek, was ^bcompelled to be circumcised. 4 But it was because of the ^afalse brethren secretly brought in, who ^bhad sneaked in to spy out our ^cliberty which we have in Christ Jesus, in order to ^dbring us into bondage. 5 But we did not yield in subjection to them for even an hour, so that ^athe truth of the gospel would remain with you. 6 But from those who ¹were of high ^areputation (what they were makes no difference to me; ^bGod ²shows no partiality)—well, those who were of reputation contributed nothing to me. 7 But on the contrary, seeing that I had been ^aentrusted with the ^bgospel ¹to the uncircumcised, just as ^cPeter had been ²to the circumcised 8 (for He who effectually worked for Peter in his ^aapostleship ¹to the circumcised effectually worked for me also to the Gentiles), 9 and recognizing ^athe grace that had been given to me, ^1bJames and ^cCephas and John, who were ^dreputed to be ^epillars, gave to me and ^fBarnabas the ^gright ²hand of fellowship, so that we might ^hgo to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised. 10 They only asked us to remember the poor—^athe very thing I also was eager to do.

11 But when ^aCephas came to ^bAntioch, I opposed him to his face, because he ¹stood condemned. 12 For prior to the coming of certain men from ^1aJames, he used to ^beat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he began to withdraw and hold himself aloof, ^cfearing ²the party of the circumcision. 13 The rest of the Jews joined him in hypocrisy, with the result that even ^aBarnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that they ^awere not ¹straightforward about ^bthe truth of the gospel, I said to ^cCephas in the presence of all, “If you, being a Jew, ^dlive like the Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?²

15 “We are ^aJews by nature and not ^bsinners from among the Gentiles; 16 nevertheless knowing that ^aa man is not justified by the works of ¹the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by ^bfaith in Christ and not by the works of ²the Law; since ^cby the works of ³the Law no ⁴flesh will be justified. 17 But if, while seeking to be justified in Christ, we ourselves have also been found ^asinners, is Christ then a minister of sin? ^bMay it never be! 18 For if I rebuild what I have once destroyed, I ^aprove myself to be a transgressor. 19 For through ¹the Law I ^adied to ²the Law, so that I might live to God. 20 I have been ^acrucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but ^bChrist lives in me; and ¹the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in ^cthe Son of God, who ^dloved me and ^egave Himself up for me. 21 I do not nullify the grace of God, for ^aif righteousness comes through ¹the Law, then Christ died needlessly.”
