Exhortación al arrepentimiento

Oíd esta palabra que yo pronuncio¹ como lamentación^a sobre vosotros, casa de Israel.2 Ha caído, no volverá a levantarse^ala virgen de Israel^b;abandonada yace en su tierra,no hay quien la levante^c.3 Porque así dice el Señor DIOS¹:La ciudad que sale con mil,se quedará con cien^a;y la que sale con cien,se quedará con diez^b, en la casa de Israel.

4 Porque así dice el SEÑOR a la casa de Israel:Buscadme^a, y viviréis^b.5 Pero no busquéis a Betel^a,ni vayáis a Gilgal^b,ni paséis a Beerseba^c;porque ciertamente Gilgal será llevada cautiva,y Betel caerá en desgracia¹.6 Buscad al SEÑOR y viviréis^a,no sea que Él prorrumpa como fuego^b, oh casa¹ de José,y consuma a Betel sin que haya quien lo apague;7 consuma a los que convierten el juicio en ajenjoy echan¹ por tierra la justicia^a.

8 El que hizo las Pléyades y el Orión^a,cambia las densas tinieblas en aurora^b,y hace oscurecer¹ el día en noche^c;el que llama a las aguas del mar,y las derrama sobre la faz de la tierra^d:el SEÑOR es su nombre^e.9 Él es quien desencadena destrucción sobre el fuerte^a,y hace que la ruina venga sobre la fortaleza^b.

10 Ellos odian en la puerta¹^a al que reprende,y aborrecen al que habla con integridad^b.11 Por tanto, ya que imponéis fuertes impuestos sobre el¹ pobrey exigís de él tributo de grano,las casas de piedra labrada que habéis edificado,no las habitaréis^a;habéis plantado viñas escogidas, pero no beberéis su vino^b.12 Pues yo sé que muchas son vuestras transgresiones y graves vuestros pecados:oprimís al justo, aceptáis¹ sobornoy rechazáis² a los pobres en la puerta^a.13 Por tanto, el prudente se calla en ese tiempo^a, pues es tiempo malo.

14 Buscad lo bueno y no lo malo, para que viváis;y así sea con vosotros el SEÑOR, Dios de los ejércitos,tal como habéis dicho^a.15 Aborreced el mal, amad el bien^a,y estableced la justicia¹ en la puerta.Tal vez el SEÑOR, Dios de los ejércitos,sea misericordioso^b con el remanente^c de José.

16 Por tanto, así dice el SEÑOR, el Señor Dios de los ejércitos:En todas las plazas hay llanto,y en todas las calles dicen: ¡Ay! ¡Ay!^aLlaman a duelo al labrador^b,y a lamentación a los que saben plañir^c.17 En todas las viñas habrá llanto^a,porque pasaré por en medio de ti—dice el SEÑOR.

18 ¡Ay de los que ansían el día del SEÑOR!¿De qué os servirá el día del SEÑOR^a?Será tinieblas, y no luz^b;19 como cuando uno huye de un león,y se encuentra con un oso,o va a casa, apoya la mano en la pared,y lo muerde una culebra^a.20 ¿No será tinieblas el día del SEÑOR, y no luz,oscuridad, y no resplandor^a?

21 Aborrezco, desprecio vuestras fiestas^a,tampoco me agradan¹ vuestras asambleas solemnes^b.22 Aunque me ofrezcáis holocaustos y vuestras ofrendas de grano,no los aceptaré;ni miraré a las ofrendas de paz de vuestros animales cebados^a.23 Aparta de mí el ruido de tus cánticos,pues no escucharé siquiera la música de tus arpas.24 Pero corra¹ el juicio como las aguasy la justicia como corriente inagotable^a.

25 ¿Acaso me ofrecisteis sacrificios y ofrendas de cereal por cuarenta años en el desierto, oh casa de Israel¹^a? 26 Más bien, llevasteis a Sicut¹, vuestro rey, y a Quiyún², vuestros ídolos, la estrella de vuestros dioses que hicisteis para vosotros^a. 27 Yo os haré, pues, deportar más allá de Damasco—dice el SEÑOR, cuyo nombre es Dios de los ejércitos.

“Seek Me that You May Live”

Hear this word which I take up for you as a ^adirge, O house of Israel:2 She has fallen, she will ^anot rise again—The ^bvirgin Israel.She lies neglected on her land;There is ^cnone to raise her up.

3 For thus says the Lord ¹GOD,“The city which goes forth a thousand strongWill have a ^ahundred left,And the one which goes forth a hundred strongWill have ^bten left to the house of Israel.”

4 For thus says the LORD to the house of Israel,“^aSeek Me ^bthat you may live.

5 “But do not ¹resort to ^aBethelAnd do not come to ^bGilgal,Nor cross over to ^cBeersheba;For Gilgal will certainly go into captivityAnd Bethel will ²come to trouble.6 “^aSeek the LORD that you may live,Or He will break forth like a ^bfire, ¹O house of Joseph,And it will consume with none to quench it for Bethel,7 For those who turn ^ajustice into wormwoodAnd ¹cast righteousness down to the earth.”

8 He who made the ^aPleiades and OrionAnd ^bchanges deep darkness into morning,¹Who also ^cdarkens day into night,Who ^dcalls for the waters of the seaAnd pours them out on the surface of the earth,The ^eLORD is His name.9 It is He who ^aflashes forth with destruction upon the strong,So that ^bdestruction comes upon the fortress.

10 They hate him who ^areproves in the ¹gate,And they ^babhor him who speaks with integrity.11 Therefore because you ¹impose heavy rent on the poorAnd exact a tribute of grain from them,Though you have built ^ahouses of well-hewn stone,Yet you will not live in them;You have planted pleasant vineyards, yet you will ^bnot drink their wine.12 For I know your transgressions are many and your sins are great,You who ^adistress the righteous and accept bribesAnd ¹turn aside the poor in the ²gate.13 Therefore at ¹such a time the prudent person ^akeeps silent, for it is an evil time.

14 Seek good and not evil, that you may live;And thus may the LORD God of hosts be with you,^aJust as you have said!15 ^aHate evil, love good,And establish justice in the ¹gate!Perhaps the LORD God of hosts^bMay be gracious to the ^cremnant of Joseph.

16 Therefore thus says the LORD God of hosts, the Lord,“There is ^awailing in all the plazas,And in all the streets they say, ‘Alas! Alas!’They also call the ^bfarmer to mourningAnd ¹^cprofessional mourners to lamentation.

17 “And in all the ^avineyards there is wailing,Because I will pass through the midst of you,” says the LORD.

18 Alas, you who are longing for the ^aday of the LORD,For what purpose will the day of the LORD be to you?It will be ^bdarkness and not light;19 As when a man ^aflees from a lionAnd a bear meets him,¹Or goes home, leans his hand against the wallAnd a snake bites him.20 Will not the day of the LORD be ^adarkness instead of light,Even gloom with no brightness in it?

21 “I hate, I ^areject your festivals,Nor do I ¹^bdelight in your solemn assemblies.22 “Even though you ^aoffer up to Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings,I will not accept them;And I will not even look at the ^bpeace offerings of your fatlings.23 “Take away from Me the noise of your songs;I will not even listen to the sound of your harps.24 “But let ^ajustice roll down like watersAnd righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

25 “¹^aDid you present Me with sacrifices and grain offerings in the wilderness for forty years, O house of Israel? 26 ^aYou also carried along ¹Sikkuth your king and ²Kiyyun, your images, ³the star of your gods which you made for yourselves. 27 Therefore, I will make you go into exile beyond Damascus,” says the LORD, whose name is the God of hosts.

Hear this word which I am taking up for you as a ^asong of mourning, house of Israel:2 She has fallen, she will ^anot rise again—The ^bvirgin Israel.She lies unnoticed on her land;There is ^cno one to raise her up.

3 For this is what the Lord ¹GOD says:“The city which goes forth a thousand strongWill have a ^ahundred left,And the one which goes forth a hundred strongWill have ^bten left to the house of Israel.”

4 For this is what the LORD says to the house of Israel:“^aSeek Me ^bso that you may live.

16 Therefore this is what the LORD God of armies, the Lord says:“There is ^amourning in all the public squares,And in all the streets they say, ‘Oh no! Oh no!’They also call the ^bfarmer to mourningAnd ¹^cprofessional mourners to mourning rites.

17 “And in all the ^avineyards there is mourning,Because I will pass through the midst of you,” says the LORD.

18 Woe to you who are longing for the ^aday of the LORD,For what ¹purpose will the day of the LORD be to you?It will be ^bdarkness and not light;19 As when a man ^aflees from a lionAnd a bear confronts him,¹Or he goes home, leans with his hand against the wall,And a snake bites him.20 Will the day of the LORD not be ^adarkness instead of light,Even gloom with no brightness in it?
