El día veinticuatro de este mesa se congregaron los hijos de Israel en ayunob, vestidos de cilicio y con polvo sobre síc. 2 Y los descendientes1 de Israel se separaron de todos los extranjerosa, y se pusieron en pie, confesando sus pecados y las iniquidades de sus padresb. 3 Puestos de pie, cada uno en su lugara, leyeron en el libro de la ley del SEÑOR su Dios por una cuarta parte del día; y por otra cuarta parte confesaron y adoraron al SEÑOR su Dios. 4 Y sobre el estrado de los levitas se levantaron Jesúa, Bani, Cadmiel, Sebanías, Buni, Serebías, Bania y Quenani, y clamaron en alta voz al SEÑOR su Dios.

5 Entonces los levitas, Jesúa, Cadmiel, Bani, Hasabnías, Serebías, Hodías, Sebanías y Petaías, dijeron: Levantaos, bendecid al SEÑOR vuestro Dios por siempre y para siempre.Sea bendito tu glorioso nombrey exaltado sobre toda bendición y alabanza.

6 Solo tú eres el SEÑORa.Tú hiciste los cielos,los cielos de los cielos con todo su ejército,la tierra y todo lo que en ella hayb,los mares y todo lo que en ellos hay.Tú das vida a todos elloscy el ejército de los cielos se postra ante ti.7 Tú eres el SEÑOR Diosque escogiste a Abrama,lo sacaste de Ur de los Caldeosby le diste por nombre Abrahamc.8 Hallaste fiel su corazón delante de ti,e hiciste con él un pactopara darle la tierra del cananeo,del hitita, del amorreo,del ferezeo, del jebuseo y del gergeseo,para darla a su descendencia1a.Y has cumplido tu palabrab, porque eres justo.
9 Tú viste la aflicción de nuestros padres en Egiptoa,y escuchaste su clamor junto al mar Rojo1b.10 Entonces hiciste señales y maravillas contra Faraóna,contra todos sus siervos y contra todo el pueblo de su tierra;pues supiste que ellos los trataban con soberbia,y te hiciste un nombreb como el de hoy.11 Dividiste el mar delante de ellosa,y pasaron por medio del mar sobre tierra firme;y echaste en los abismos a sus perseguidores,como a una piedra en aguas turbulentas1b.12 Con columna de nube los guiaste de día,y con columna de fuego de noche,para alumbrarles el caminoen que debían andara.13 Luego bajaste sobre el monte Sinaía,y desde el cielo hablaste con ellosb;les diste ordenanzas justas y leyes verdaderas,estatutos y mandamientos buenosc.14 Les hiciste conocer tu santo día de reposoa,y les prescribiste mandamientos, estatutos y la leypor medio1 de tu siervo Moisés.15 Les proveíste pan del cielo para su hambrea,les sacaste agua de la peña para su sedb,y les dijiste que entraran a poseerla tierra que tú habías jurado darles1c.
16 Pero ellos, nuestros padres, obraron con soberbiaa,endurecieron su cerviz y no escucharon tus mandamientosb.17 Rehusaron escuchar,y no se acordaron de las maravillas que hiciste entre ellosa;endurecieron su cerviz y eligieron un jefe para volver a su esclavitud en Egipto1b.Pero tú eres un Dios de perdón,clemente y compasivo,lento para la ira y abundante en misericordiac,y no los abandonaste.18 Ni siquiera cuando se hicieronun becerro de metal fundidoy dijeron: «Este es tu Diosque te sacó de Egipto»,y cometieron grandes blasfemias1a,19 tú, en tu gran compasión,no los abandonaste en el desiertoa;la columna de nube no los dejó de día,para guiarlos en el camino,ni la columna de fuego de noche, para alumbrarles el camino por donde debían andarb.20 Y diste tu buen Espíritu para instruirlesa,no retiraste tu maná de su boca,y les diste agua para su sed.21 Por cuarenta años proveíste para ellos en el desierto y nada les faltóa,sus vestidos no se gastaron ni se hincharon sus pies.22 También les diste reinos y pueblos,y se los repartiste con sus límites1.Y tomaron posesión de la tierra de Sehón, rey2 de Hesbón,y la tierra de Og, rey de Basána.23 Y multiplicaste sus hijos como las estrellas del cieloa,y los llevaste a la tierraque habías dicho a sus padres que entraran a poseerla.24 Y entraron los hijos y poseyeron la tierraa.Y tú sometiste delante de ellos a los habitantes de la tierra, a los cananeos,y los entregaste en su mano, con sus reyes y los pueblos de la tierra,para hacer con ellos como quisieranb.25 Y capturaron ciudades fortificadasa y una tierra fértil1b.Tomaron posesión de casas llenas de toda cosa buena,cisternas excavadas, viñas y olivares,y árboles frutales en abundanciac.Y comieron, se saciaron, engordarondy se deleitaron en tu gran bondade.
26 Pero fueron desobedientes y se rebelaron contra tia,echaron tu ley a sus espaldasb,mataron a tus profetasc que los amonestaban1para que se volvieran a tid,y cometieron grandes blasfemias2e.27 Entonces los entregaste en mano de sus enemigos, que los oprimierona,pero en el tiempo de su angustia clamaron a ti,y tú escuchaste desde el cielo, y conforme a tu gran compasiónbles diste libertadores que los libraron de mano de sus opresoresc.28 Pero cuando tenían descansoa, volvían a hacer lo malo delante de ti;por eso tú los abandonabas en mano de sus enemigos para que los dominaran;y cuando clamaban de nuevo a ti, tú oías desde el cieloy muchas veces los rescataste conforme a tu compasiónb.29 Los amonestaste1 para que volvieran a tu leya,pero ellos obraron con soberbia y no escucharon tus mandamientosb, sino que pecaron contra tus ordenanzas,las cuales si el hombre las cumple, por ellas vivirác.Y dieron la espalda en rebeldía, endurecieron su cerviz y no escucharond.30 Sin embargo, tú los soportaste por muchos añosa,y los amonestaste1b con tu Espírituc por medio2 de tus profetas,pero no prestaron oído.Entonces los entregaste en mano de los pueblos de estas3 tierras.31 Pero en tu gran compasión no losexterminastea ni los abandonaste,porque tú eres un Dios clemente y compasivob.
32 Ahora pues, Dios nuestro, Dios grande, poderoso y temible, que guardas el pacto y la misericordiaa,no parezca insignificante ante ti toda la aflicciónque nos ha sobrevenido, a nuestros reyes, a nuestros príncipes, a nuestros sacerdotes, a nuestros profetas, a nuestros padres y a todo tu pueblo,desde los días de los reyes de Asiriab hasta el día de hoy.33 Mas tú eres justo en todo lo que ha venido sobre nosotros,porque tú has obrado fielmentea,pero nosotros perversamente.34 Nuestros reyes, nuestros jefes, nuestros sacerdotes y nuestros padres no han observado tu leyni han hecho caso a tus mandamientos ni a tus amonestaciones1 con que los amonestabas2.35 Pero ellos en su propio reino,con los1 muchos bienes que tú les diste,con la espaciosa y rica tierra2 que pusiste delante de ellosa,no te sirvieron ni se convirtieron de sus malas obrasb.36 He aquí, hoy somos esclavos,y en cuanto a la tierra que diste a nuestros padrespara comer de sus frutos y de sus bienes,he aquí, somos esclavos en ellaa.37 Y su abundante fruto es para los reyesque tú pusiste sobre nosotrosa a causa de nuestros pecados,los cuales dominan nuestros cuerposy nuestros ganados como les place,y en gran angustia estamos.

38 1A causa de todo esto, nosotros hacemos un pacto fiel por escritoa; y en el documento sellado están los nombres de nuestros jefesb, nuestros levitas y nuestros sacerdotes.

Now on the twenty-fourth day of athis month the sons of Israel assembled bwith fasting, in sackcloth and with cdirt upon them. 2 The 1adescendants of Israel separated themselves from all foreigners, and stood and bconfessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers. 3 While athey stood in their place, they read from the book of the law of the LORD their God for a fourth of the day; and for another fourth they confessed and worshiped the LORD their God. 4 aNow on the Levites’ platform stood Jeshua, Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani and Chenani, and they cried with a loud voice to the LORD their God.

5 Then the Levites, Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah and Pethahiah, said, “Arise, bless the LORD your God forever and ever!O may Your glorious name be blessedAnd exalted above all blessing and praise!

6 “aYou alone are the LORD.bYou have made the heavens,The heaven of heavens with all their host,The earth and all that is on it,The seas and all that is in them.cYou give life to all of themAnd the heavenly host bows down before You.7 “You are the LORD God,aWho chose AbramAnd brought him out from bUr of the Chaldees,And cgave him the name Abraham.8 “You found ahis heart faithful before You,And made a covenant with himTo give him the land of the Canaanite,Of the Hittite and the Amorite,Of the Perizzite, the Jebusite and the Girgashite—To give it to his 1descendants.And You bhave fulfilled Your promise,For You are righteous.
9 “aYou saw the affliction of our fathers in Egypt,And bheard their cry by the 1Red Sea.10 “Then You performed asigns and wonders against Pharaoh,Against all his servants and all the people of his land;For You knew that bthey acted arrogantly toward them,And cmade a name for Yourself as it is this day.11 “aYou divided the sea before them,So they passed through the midst of the sea on dry ground;And btheir pursuers You hurled into the depths,Like a stone into 1raging waters.12 “And with a pillar of cloud aYou led them by day,And with a pillar of fire by nightTo light for them the wayIn which they were to go.13 “Then aYou came down on Mount Sinai,And bspoke with them from heaven;You gave them cjust ordinances and true laws,Good statutes and commandments.14 “So You made known to them aYour holy sabbath,And laid down for them commandments, statutes and law,Through Your servant Moses.15 “You aprovided bread from heaven for them for their hunger,You bbrought forth water from a rock for them for their thirst,And You ctold them to enter in order to possessThe land which You 1swore to give them.
16 “But they, our fathers, aacted arrogantly;They 1bbecame stubborn and would not listen to Your commandments.17 “They refused to listen,And adid not remember Your wondrous deeds which You had performed among them;So they became stubborn and bappointed a leader to return to their slavery 1in Egypt.But You are a God cof forgiveness,Gracious and compassionate,Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness;And You did not forsake them.18 “Even when they amade for themselvesA calf of molten metalAnd said, ‘This is your GodWho brought you up from Egypt,’And committed great 1blasphemies,19 aYou, in Your great compassion,Did not forsake them in the wilderness;bThe pillar of cloud did not leave them by day,To guide them on their way,Nor the pillar of fire by night, to light for them the way in which they were to go.20 “aYou gave Your good Spirit to instruct them,Your manna You did not withhold from their mouth,And You gave them water for their thirst.21 “Indeed, aforty years You provided for them in the wilderness and they were not in want;Their clothes did not wear out, nor did their feet swell.22 “You also gave them kingdoms and peoples,And allotted them to them as a 1boundary.aThey took possession of the land of Sihon 2the king of HeshbonAnd the land of Og the king of Bashan.23 “You made their sons numerous as athe stars of heaven,And You brought them into the landWhich You had told their fathers to enter and possess.24 “aSo their sons entered and possessed the land.And bYou subdued before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites,And You gave them into their hand, with their kings and the peoples of the land,To do with them 1as they desired.25 “aThey captured fortified cities and a 1bfertile land.They took possession of chouses full of every good thing,Hewn cisterns, vineyards, olive groves,Fruit trees in abundance.So they ate, were filled and dgrew fat,And ereveled in Your great goodness.
26 “aBut they became disobedient and rebelled against You,And bcast Your law behind their backsAnd ckilled Your prophets who had dadmonished themSo that they might return to You,And ethey committed great 1blasphemies.27 “Therefore You adelivered them into the hand of their oppressors who oppressed them,But when they cried to You bin the time of their distress,You heard from heaven, and according to Your great compassionYou cgave them deliverers who delivered them from the hand of their oppressors.28 “But aas soon as they had rest, they did evil again before You;Therefore You abandoned them to the hand of their enemies, so that they ruled over them.When they cried again to You, You heard from heaven,And bmany times You rescued them according to Your compassion,29 And aadmonished them in order to turn them back to Your law.Yet bthey acted arrogantly and did not listen to Your commandments but sinned against Your ordinances,By cwhich if a man observes them he shall live.And they 1dturned a stubborn shoulder and stiffened their neck, and would not listen.30 “aHowever, You bore with them for many years,And badmonished them by cYour Spirit through Your prophets,Yet they would not give ear.Therefore You gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.31 “Nevertheless, in Your great compassion You adid not make an end of them or forsake them,For You are ba gracious and compassionate God.
32 “Now therefore, our God, athe great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps covenant and lovingkindness,Do not let all the hardship seem insignificant before You,Which has come upon us, our kings, our princes, our priests, our prophets, our fathers and on all Your people,bFrom the days of the kings of Assyria to this day.33 “However, aYou are just in all that has come upon us;For You have dealt faithfully, but we have acted wickedly.34 “For our kings, our leaders, our priests and our fathers have not kept Your lawOr paid attention to Your commandments and Your 1admonitions with which You have 2admonished them.35 “But athey, in their own kingdom,bWith Your great goodness which You gave them,With the broad and rich land which You set before them,Did not serve You or turn from their evil deeds.36 “Behold, awe are slaves today,And as to the land which You gave to our fathers to eat of its fruit and its bounty,Behold, we are slaves in it.37 “aIts abundant produce is for the kingsWhom You have set over us because of our sins;They also rule over our bodiesAnd over our cattle as they please,So we are in great distress.

38 “1Now because of all thisaWe are making an agreement in writing;And on the bsealed document are the names of our leaders, our Levites and our priests.”

26 “aBut they became rebellious and revolted against You,And bthrew Your Law behind their backsAnd ckilled Your prophets who had dadmonished themIn order to bring them back to You,And ethey committed great blasphemies.27 “Therefore You ahanded them over to their enemies who oppressed them,But when they cried out to You bin the time of their distress,You heard from heaven, and according to Your great compassionYou cgave them 1people who saved them from the hand of their enemies.28 “But aas soon as they had rest, they did evil again before You;Therefore You abandoned them to the hand of their enemies, so that they ruled over them.When they cried out again to You, You heard from heaven,And bmany times You rescued them according to Your compassion,29 And aadmonished them in order to turn them back to Your Law.Yet bthey acted arrogantly and did not listen to Your commandments but sinned against Your ordinances,cWhich, if a person 1follows them, then he will live by them.And they 2dturned a stubborn shoulder and stiffened their neck, and would not listen.30 “aHowever, You remained patient with them for many years,And badmonished them by cYour Spirit through Your prophets,Yet they would not listen.Therefore You handed them over to the peoples of the lands.31 “Nevertheless, in Your great compassion You adid not make an end of them or abandon them,For You are ba gracious and compassionate God.
32 “Now then, our God, athe great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps His covenant and faithfulness,Do not let all the hardship seem insignificant before You,Which has happened to us, our kings, our leaders, our priests, our prophets, our fathers, and to all Your people,bFrom the days of the kings of Assyria to this day.33 “However, aYou are righteous in everything that has happened to us;For You have dealt faithfully, but we have acted wickedly.34 “For our kings, our leaders, our priests, and our fathers have not kept Your LawOr paid attention to Your commandments and Your 1admonitions with which You have 2admonished them.35 “But athey, in their own kingdom,bWith Your great goodness which You gave them,With the broad and rich land which You placed before them,Did not serve You or turn from their evil deeds.36 “Behold, awe are slaves today,And as for the land which You gave to our fathers to eat its fruit and its bounty,Behold, we are slaves on it.37 “And aits abundant produce is for the kingsWhom You have set over us because of our sins;They also rule over our bodiesAnd over our cattle as they please,So we are in great distress.

5 Then the Levites—Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah—said, “Stand up and bless (praise, honor) the LORD your God from 1everlasting to everlasting.May Your glorious name be blessedAnd exalted above all blessing and praise.”

6 And Ezra said,“aYou are the LORD, You alone;bYou have made the heavens,The heaven of heavens with all their host (the heavenly bodies) ,The earth and everything that is on it,The seas and everything that is in them.cYou give life to all of them,And the heavenly host is bowing down in worship to You.7 “You are the LORD God,aWho chose AbramAnd brought him out of bUr of the Chaldees,And cgave him the name Abraham.8 “You found ahis heart to be faithful 1before You,And You 2made a covenant with himTo give him the land of the Canaanite,Of the Hittite, of the Amorite,Of the Perizzite, the Jebusite, and the Girgashite—To give it to his descendants.And You bhave fulfilled Your promise,For You are righteous and just.
9 “aYou saw our fathers’ affliction in Egypt,And You bheard their cry by the Red Sea (Sea of Reeds) .10 “Then You performed asigns and wonders against Pharaoh,Against all his servants and all the people of his land;For You knew that bthey behaved arrogantly toward them (the Israelites) ,And You made a cname for Yourself, as it is to this day.11 “aYou divided the sea before them,So that they passed through the midst of the sea on dry land;bYou hurled their pursuers into the depths,Like a stone into mighty and raging waters.12 “And with a pillar of cloud aYou led them by day,And with a pillar of fire by nightTo light the way for themIn which they were to go.13 “Then aYou came down on Mount Sinai,And bspoke with them from heaven;And You gave them cfair ordinances and true laws,Good statutes and commandments.14 “So You made known to them aYour holy Sabbath,And gave them commandments, statutes, and law,1Through Your servant Moses.15 “You agave them bread from heaven for their hunger,And bbrought water for them out of a rock for their thirst,And You ctold them to enter and take possession ofThe land that You 1swore to give them. 16 “But they, our fathers, aacted arrogantly;They bstiffened their necks and would not heed Your commandments.17 “They refused to listen and obey,And adid not remember Your wondrous acts which You had performed among them;So they stiffened their necks and in their rebellion bappointed a leader in order to return them to slavery in Egypt.But You are a God cof forgiveness,Gracious and merciful and compassionate,1Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness;And You did not abandon them. 26 “aYet they were disobedient and rebelled against You,And bcast Your law behind their backsAnd ckilled Your prophets who dwarned themTo return to You;And ethey committed great and contemptible blasphemies.27 “Therefore You ahanded them over to their enemies who oppressed them.bBut when they cried out to You in the time of their suffering and distress,You heard them from heaven, and according to Your great compassion You cgave them 1people to rescue them.Who rescued them from the hand of their enemies.28 “But aas soon as they had rest, they again did evil before You;Therefore You abandoned them into the hand of their enemies, so that they ruled over them.Yet when they turned and cried out again to You, You heard them from heaven,And You rescued them bmany times in accordance with Your compassion,29 And You aadmonished them and warned them to turn them back to Your law.Yet bthey acted presumptuously and arrogantly and did not heed Your commandments, but sinned against Your ordinances,Which cby keeping, a man will live.But they dturned a stubborn shoulder, stiffened their neck, and would not listen.30 “aYet You were patient with them for many years,And badmonished them and warned them by cYour Spirit through Your prophets;Still they would not 1listen.Therefore You gave them into the hand (power) of the peoples of the lands.31 “Yet in Your great compassion You adid not utterly destroy them or abandon them,For You are ba gracious and merciful God.
32 “Now therefore, our God, athe great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps the covenant and lovingkindness,Do not let all the hardship seem insignificant before You,Which has come upon us, our kings, our princes, our priests, our prophets, our fathers and on all Your people,bSince the time of the kings of Assyria to this day.33 “However, aYou are just and righteous in everything that has come upon us;For You have dealt faithfully, but we have acted wickedly.34 “Our kings, our princes, our priests, and our fathers have not kept Your lawOr paid attention to Your commandments and Your warnings which You have given them.35 “But athey, in their kingdom,With bYour great goodness which You gave them,With the broad and rich land which You set before them,Did not serve You or turn from their wicked deeds.36 “Behold, awe are slaves today,And as for the land which You gave our fathers, to eat of its fruit and its goodness,Behold, we are slaves in it.37 “aIts abundant produce is for the kingsWhom You have set over us because of our sins;They also rule over our bodiesAnd over our cattle as they please,So we are in great distress.
