Amenazas de invasión
Huid, hijos de Benjamín,de en medio de Jerusaléna;tocad trompeta en Tecoa,y alzad señal sobre Bet-haquerem1b,porque desde el norte se asoma el maly una gran destrucciónc.2 A la hermosa y delicadaa hija de Siónb destruiré.3 A ella vendrán pastoresa con sus rebaños,levantarán sus tiendas a su alrededor1b,y cada uno apacentará en su lugar2.4 Preparad1 guerra contra ellaa;levantaos y ataquemos2 al mediodía.¡Ay de nosotros, porque el día declina,porque se extienden las sombras del anochecerb!5 Levantaos, ataquemos1 de nochey destruyamos sus palacios2a.

6 Porque así dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos:Cortad sus árboles,y poned sitio1a contra Jerusalén.Esta es la ciudad que ha de ser castigadab,todo dentro de ella es opresiónc.

7 Como un pozo mantiene frescas1 sus aguasa,así ella mantiene fresca2 su maldad.En ella se oyen violencia y destrucciónb;ante mí hay de continuo enfermedades y heridasc.8 Sé precavidaa, oh Jerusalén,no sea que mi alma se aleje de ti;no sea que yo te convierta en desolación,en tierra despobladab.

9 Así dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos:Buscarána, rebuscarán como en una vid el remanenteb de Israel;vuelve a pasar tu mano como el vendimiadorpor los sarmientos.

10 ¿A quiénes hablaré y advertiré, para que oigan?He aquí, sus oídos están cerrados1,y no pueden escuchara.He aquí, la palabra del SEÑOR les es oprobiob;no se deleitan en ella.11 Pero yo estoy llenoa del furor del SEÑOR,estoy cansado de retenerlob.Derrámalo sobre los niños en la calle,y sobre la reunión1 de los jóvenesc;porque serán apresados tanto el marido como la mujer,el viejo y el muy anciano2.12 aY sus casas serán entregadas a otros,juntamente con sus campos y sus mujeresb;porque extenderé mi manoccontra los habitantes de esta1 tierra—declara el SEÑOR.13 Porque desde el menor hasta el mayor,todos ellos codician ganancias,y desde el profeta hasta el sacerdotea,todos practican el engañob.14 Y curan a la ligera el quebranto de mi pueblo,diciendo: «Paz, paz»,pero no hay paza.15 ¿Se han avergonzado de la abominación que han cometido?Ciertamente no se han avergonzado,ni aun han sabido ruborizarse;por tanto caerán entre los que caigan;en la hora que yo los castigue serán derribadosa—dice el SEÑOR.

16 Así dice el SEÑOR:Paraos en los caminos y mirad,y preguntad por los senderos antiguoscuál es el buen camino, y andad por éla;y hallaréis descanso para vuestras almasb.Pero dijeron: «No andaremos en él.»

17 Y puse centinelas sobre vosotros, que dijeran:«Escuchad el sonido de la trompeta».Pero dijeron: «No escucharemosa».18 Por tanto, oíd, naciones,y entiende, congregación, lo que se hará entre ellos.19 Oye, tierra: he aquí, yo traigo una calamidad sobre este puebloa,el fruto de sus planes1b,porque no han escuchado mis palabras,y han desechado mi leyc.20 ¿Para qué viene a mí este incienso de Sabáa,y la dulce1 cañab de una tierra lejana?Vuestros holocaustos no son aceptables,y vuestros sacrificios no me agradanc.

21 Por tanto, así dice el SEÑOR:He aquí, pongo1 piedras de tropiezo delante de este puebloa,y tropezarán en ellaspadres e hijos a unab;el vecino y su prójimo perecerán.

22 Así dice el SEÑOR:He aquí, viene un pueblo de tierras del nortea,y una gran nación se levantará de los confines de la tierrab.

23 Empuñan arco y jabalina,crueles son, no tienen misericordia;sus voces braman como el mara,y montan a caballobcomo hombres dispuestos para la guerracontra ti, hijac de Sión.24 Hemos oído de su famaa,flaquean nuestras manos.La angustia se ha apoderado de nosotros,dolor como de mujer de partob.25 No salgas al campoa,ni andes por el caminob;porque espada tiene el enemigo,y hay terror por todas partesc.26 Hija de mi pueblo, cíñete el cilicioay revuélcate en cenizab;haz duelo como por hijo único,lamento de gran amargurac,porque de pronto el destructorvendrá sobre nosotros.
27 Te he puesto como observador y como examinador entre mi puebloa,para que conozcas y examines su conducta.28 Todos ellos son rebeldes obstinadosque andan calumniandoa.Son hierro y bronceb;todos ellos están corrompidos1.29 El fuelle sopla con furor,el plomo es consumido por el fuego;en vano se sigue refinando,pues los malvados no son separados1a.30 Los llaman plata de deshechoa,porque el SEÑOR los ha desechadob.

Destruction of Jerusalem Impending
“Flee for safety, O sons of aBenjamin,From the midst of Jerusalem!Now blow a trumpet in TekoaAnd raise a signal over 1bBeth-haccerem;For evil looks down from the cnorth,And a great destruction.2 “The comely and adainty one, bthe daughter of Zion, I will cut off.3 “aShepherds and their flocks will come to her,They will bpitch their tents 1around her,They will pasture each in his 2place.4 “1aPrepare war against her;Arise, and let us 2attack at bnoon.Woe to us, for the day declines,For the shadows of the evening lengthen!5 “Arise, and let us 1attack by nightAnd adestroy her 2palaces!”6 For thus says the LORD of hosts,“aCut down her treesAnd cast up a bsiege against Jerusalem.This is the city to be punished,In whose midst there is only coppression.7 “aAs a well 1keeps its waters fresh,So she 2keeps fresh her wickedness.bViolence and destruction are heard in her;cSickness and wounds are ever before Me.8 “aBe warned, O Jerusalem,Or 1bI shall be alienated from you,And make you a desolation,A land not inhabited.”
9 Thus says the LORD of hosts,“They will athoroughly glean as the vine the bremnant of Israel;Pass your hand again like a grape gathererOver the branches.”10 To whom shall I speak and give warningThat they may hear?Behold, their aears are 1closedAnd they cannot listen.Behold, bthe word of the LORD has become a reproach to them;They have no delight in it.11 But I am afull of the wrath of the LORD;I am bweary with holding it in.“cPour it out on the children in the streetAnd on the 1gathering of young men together;For both husband and wife shall be taken,The aged 2and the very old.12 “Their ahouses shall be turned over to others,Their fields and their wives together;For I will bstretch out My handAgainst the inhabitants of the land,” declares the LORD.13 “For afrom the least of them even to the greatest of them,Everyone is bgreedy for gain,And from the prophet even to the priestEveryone 1deals falsely.14 “They have ahealed the brokenness of My people superficially,Saying, ‘Peace, peace,’But there is no peace.15 “Were they aashamed because of the abomination they have done?They were not even ashamed at all;They did not even know how to blush.Therefore they shall fall among those who fall;At the time that I punish them,They shall be cast down,” says the LORD.
16 Thus says the LORD,“Stand by the ways and see and ask for the aancient paths,Where the good way is, and walk in it;And byou will find rest for your souls.But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’17 “And I set awatchmen over you, saying,‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’But they said, ‘We will not listen.’18 “Therefore hear, O nations,And know, O congregation, what is among them.19 “aHear, O earth: behold, I am bringing disaster on this people,The bfruit of their 1plans,Because they have not listened to My words,And as for My law, they have crejected it also.20 “aFor what purpose does bfrankincense come to Me from ShebaAnd the 1csweet cane from a distant land?dYour burnt offerings are not acceptableAnd your sacrifices are not pleasing to Me.”21 Therefore, thus says the LORD,“Behold, aI am 1laying stumbling blocks before this people.And they will stumble against them,bFathers and sons together;Neighbor and 2friend will perish.”
The Enemy from the North
22 Thus says the LORD,“Behold, aa people is coming from the north land,And a great nation will be aroused from the bremote parts of the earth.23 “They seize abow and spear;They are bcruel and have no mercy;Their voice croars like the sea,And they ride on horses,Arrayed as a man for the battleAgainst you, O daughter of Zion!”24 We have aheard the report of it;Our hands are limp.bAnguish has seized us,Pain as of a woman in childbirth.25 aDo not go out into the fieldAnd bdo not walk on the road,For the enemy has a sword,cTerror is on every side.26 O daughter of my people, aput on sackclothAnd broll in ashes;1cMourn as for an only son,A lamentation most bitter.For suddenly the destroyerWill come upon us.
27 “I have amade you an assayer and a tester among My people,That you may know and assay their way.”28 All of them are stubbornly rebellious,aGoing about as a talebearer.They are bbronze and iron;They, all of them, are corrupt.29 The bellows blow fiercely,The lead is consumed by the fire;In vain the refining goes on,But the awicked are not 1separated.30 aThey call them rejected silver,Because the bLORD has rejected them.

The Coming Destruction of Jerusalem

22 This is what the LORD says:“Behold, there is aa people coming from the north land,And a great nation will be stirred up from the bremote parts of the earth.23 “They seize abow and spear;They are bcruel and have no mercy;Their voice croars like the sea,And they ride on horses,Lined up as a man for the battleAgainst you, daughter of Zion!”24 We have aheard the report of it;Our hands are limp.bAnguish has seized us,Pain like that of a woman in childbirth.25 aDo not go out into the field,And bdo not walk on the road;For the enemy has a sword,cTerror is on every side.26 Daughter of my people, aput on sackclothAnd broll in ashes;1cMourn as for an only son,A most bitter mourning.For suddenly the destroyerWill come against us.

“Run for safety, you children of aBenjamin,Out of the midst of Jerusalem!And blow a trumpet in Tekoa in JudahAnd raise a signal-fire in bBeth-haccherem near Jerusalem;For evil is looking down with eager anticipation from the cnorth,And great destruction.2 “I will destroy athe Daughter of Zion (Jerusalem) , the lovely and bdelicate one so like a luxurious pasture.3 “aShepherds with their flocks will come against her;They will bpitch their tents all around her;They will pasture, each one in his place eating up all her rich grasses.4 “They shout, ‘aPrepare for war against her;Arise, let us take her by surprise and attack her at bnoon.But alas, the daylight pales,The evening shadows grow long.5 ‘Arise, let us awaken to attack her at nightAnd adestroy her fortified palaces!’”

6 For the LORD of hosts has said,“aCut down her treesAnd build a bsiege mound against Jerusalem.This is the city which must be punished;There is nothing but coppression inside her walls.

7 “aAs a fountain springs up and pours out its fresh waters,So she continually pours out her fresh wickedness.bViolence and destruction are heard inside her walls;cSickness and wounds are always before Me.8 “aBe wise and be warned, O Jerusalem,Or bI will be alienated from you,And make you a desolation,An uninhabited land.”
9 Thus says the LORD of hosts,“They will athoroughly gather like fruit on a vine what is bleft of Israel;Pass your hand over the vine again and again Babylon, tool of destruction like a grape gatherer,Over the branches stripping the tendrils off the vine.”10 To whom shall I (Jeremiah) speak and give warningThat they may hear?Behold, their aears are 1closed absolutely deaf to GodAnd they cannot listen.Behold, bthe word of the LORD has become a reprimand and an object of scorn to them;They have no delight in it. Acts 7:5111 But I am afull of the wrath (judgment) of the LORD;I am btired of restraining it.“I will cpour it out on the children in the streetAnd on the young men gathered together;For both the husband and wife shall be taken,The aged and the very old though full of days they are not exempt from judgment.12 “Their ahouses shall be turned over to others,Their fields and their wives together;For I will bstretch out My handAgainst the inhabitants of the land,” says the LORD.13 “For afrom the least of them even to the greatest of them,Everyone is bgreedy for unfair gain;And from the prophet even to the priestEveryone deals deceitfully.14 “They have atreated superficially the bloody broken wound of My people,Saying, ‘Peace, peace,’When there is no peace.15 “Were they aashamed because they had committed disgusting and vile things?No, they were not at all ashamed;They did not even know how to blush at their idolatry.Therefore they will fall among those who fall;At the time that I punish themThey will be overthrown,” says the LORD.
16 Thus says the LORD,“Stand by the roads and look; ask for the aancient paths,Where the good way is; then walk in it,And byou will find rest for your souls.But they said, ‘We will not walk in it!’ Matt 11:2917 “I have set awatchmen (prophets) over you,Saying, ‘Listen and pay attention to the warning sound of the trumpet!’But they said, ‘We will not listen.’18 “Therefore hear, O Gentile nations,And see, O congregation, what vengeful act is to be done to them.19 “aHear, O earth: behold, I am bringing disaster on this people,The bfruit of their schemes,Because they have not listened and paid attention to My words,And as for My law, they have crejected it also.20 “aFor what purpose does bfrankincense come to Me from 1ShebaAnd the csweet cane from a distant land?dYour burnt offerings are not acceptableAnd your sacrifices are not sweet and pleasing to Me.”

21 Therefore, thus says the LORD,“Behold, aI am laying stumbling blocks before this people.The bfathers and the sons togetherWill stumble against them;The neighbor and his friend will perish.”

The Enemy from the North
22 Thus says the LORD,“Behold, aa people is coming from the north country,And a great nation shall be stirred up and put into action from the bremote parts of the earth.23 “They seize abow and spear;They are bcruel and inhuman and have no mercy.Their voice sounds like the croaring sea;They ride in formation on horses,Arrayed as a man for battleAgainst you, O Daughter of Zion (Jerusalem) !”24 We have aheard the report of it;Our hands become limp and helpless.bAnguish has gripped us,Pain like that of a woman in childbirth.25 aDo not go out into the fieldbNor walk on the road,For the enemy is armed with the sword;cTerror is on every side.26 O daughter of my people says Jeremiah,aClothe yourself in sackcloth and bwallow in ashes;cMourn aloud as for an only son,A most bitter cry of sorrow and regret,For suddenly the destroyer will come upon us on both prophet and people.
27 “I the LORD have aset you as an assayer O Jeremiah and as a tester of the ore of My people,That you may know and analyze their acts.”28 They are all the worst kind of stiff-necked, godless rebels,aGoing around spreading slander.They are not gold and silver ore, but bbronze and iron;They are all corrupt.29 The bellows blow fiercely,The lead is consumed by the fire;In vain they continue refining,But the awicked are not separated and removed.30 aThey call them rejected silver only dross, without value,Because the bLORD has rejected them.
