^aDe nuevo la ira del SEÑOR se encendió contra Israel, e incitó a David contra ellos, diciendo: Ve, haz un censo de Israel y de Judá^b. 2 Y el rey dijo a Joab, comandante del ejército, que estaba con él: Recorre todas las tribus de Israel, desde Dan hasta Beerseba, y haz un censo del pueblo para que yo sepa el número de la gente^a. 3 Pero Joab respondió al rey: Que el SEÑOR tu Dios añada al pueblo cien veces más de lo que son^a, mientras todavía vean los ojos de mi señor el rey; pero, ¿por qué se complace mi señor el rey en esto? 4 Sin embargo, la palabra del rey prevaleció contra Joab y contra los comandantes del ejército. 10 Después que David contó el pueblo le pesó en¹ su corazón^a. Dijo, pues, David al SEÑOR: He pecado en gran manera por lo que he hecho^b. Pero ahora, oh SEÑOR, te ruego que quites² la iniquidad de tu siervo, porque he obrado muy neciamente^c. 11 Cuando David se levantó por la mañana, la palabra del SEÑOR vino al profeta Gad, vidente^a de David, diciendo: 12 Ve y di a David: «Así dice el SEÑOR: “Te ofrezco tres cosas; escoge para ti una de ellas, para que yo la haga”». 13 Así que Gad fue a David y se lo hizo saber, diciéndole: ¿Quieres que te vengan siete años de hambre en tu tierra, o que huyas por tres meses delante de tus enemigos mientras te persiguen, o que haya tres días de pestilencia en tu tierra? Considera ahora, y mira qué respuesta he de dar al que me envió^a. 14 Respondió David a Gad: Estoy muy angustiado. Te ruego que nos dejes caer en manos del SEÑOR porque grandes son sus misericordias^a, pero no caiga yo en manos de hombre.

15 Y el SEÑOR envió¹ pestilencia sobre Israel desde la mañana hasta el tiempo señalado; y desde Dan hasta Beerseba murieron setenta mil hombres^a del pueblo^b. 16 Cuando el ángel extendió su mano hacia Jerusalén para destruirla^a, el SEÑOR se arrepintió del mal^b, y dijo al ángel que destruía al pueblo: ¡Basta! ¡Detén ahora tu mano! Y el ángel del SEÑOR estaba junto a la era de Arauna¹ jebuseo. 17 Entonces David habló al SEÑOR, cuando vio al ángel que hería al pueblo, y dijo: He aquí, yo soy el que ha pecado, y yo soy el que ha hecho mal^a; pero estas ovejas, ¿qué han hecho^b? Te ruego que tu mano caiga sobre mí y sobre la casa de mi padre.

18 Y Gad vino a David aquel día y le dijo: Sube, edifica un altar al SEÑOR en la era de Arauna jebuseo^a. 19 David subió conforme a la palabra de Gad, tal como el SEÑOR había ordenado. 20 Y Arauna miró y vio al rey y a sus siervos que venían hacia él; y saliendo Arauna, se postró rostro en tierra delante del rey. 21 Entonces Arauna dijo: ¿Por qué ha venido mi señor el rey a su siervo? Y David respondió: A comprarte la era para edificar un altar al SEÑOR a fin de detener la plaga del pueblo^a. 22 Y Arauna dijo a David: Tome y ofrezca mi señor el rey lo que parezca bien a sus ojos. Mira, los bueyes para el holocausto, y los trillos y los yugos de los bueyes para la leña^a. 23 Todo, oh rey, Arauna lo da al rey. ^aNow ^bagain the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and it incited David against them to say, “^cGo, number Israel and Judah.” 2 The king said to Joab the commander of the army who was with him, “Go about now through all the tribes of Israel, ^afrom Dan to Beersheba, and ¹register the people, that I may know the number of the people.” 3 But Joab said to the king, “^aNow may the LORD your God add to the people a hundred times as many as they are, while the eyes of my lord the king still see; but why does my lord the king delight in this thing?” 4 Nevertheless, the king’s word prevailed against Joab and against the commanders of the army. So Joab and the commanders of the army went out from the presence of the king to ¹register the people of Israel. 5 They crossed the Jordan and camped in ^aAroer, on the right side of the city that is in the middle of the valley of Gad and toward ^bJazer. 6 Then they came to Gilead and to ¹the land of Tahtim-hodshi, and they came to Dan-jaan and around to ^aSidon, 7 and came to the ^afortress of Tyre and to all the cities of the ^bHivites and of the Canaanites, and they went out to the south of Judah, to ^cBeersheba. 8 So when they had gone about through the whole land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days. 9 And Joab gave ^athe number of the ¹registration of the people to the king; and there were in Israel ^beight hundred thousand valiant men who drew the sword, and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.

10 Now ^aDavid’s heart ¹troubled him after he had numbered the people. So David said to the LORD, “^bI have sinned greatly in what I have done. But now, O LORD, please ²take away the iniquity of Your servant, for ^cI have acted very foolishly.” 11 When David arose in the morning, the word of the LORD came to ^athe prophet Gad, David’s ^bseer, saying, 12 “Go and speak to David, ‘Thus the LORD says, “I am offering you three things; choose for yourself one of them, which I will do to you.”’” 13 So Gad came to David and told him, and said to him, “Shall ^aseven years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days’ pestilence in your land? Now consider and see what answer I shall return to Him who sent me.” 14 Then David said to Gad, “I am in great distress. Let us now fall into the hand of the LORD ^afor His mercies are great, but do not let me fall into the hand of man.”

15 So ^athe LORD ¹sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning until the appointed time, and seventy thousand men of the people ^bfrom Dan to Beersheba died. 16 ^aWhen the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, ^bthe LORD relented from the calamity and said to the angel who destroyed the people, “It is enough! Now relax your hand!” And the angel of the LORD was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. 17 Then David spoke to the LORD when he saw the angel who was striking down the people, and said, “Behold, ^ait is I who have sinned, and it is I who have done wrong; but ^bthese sheep, what have they done? Please let Your hand be against me and against my father’s house.”

18 So Gad came to David that day and said to him, “^aGo up, erect an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of ¹Araunah the Jebusite.” 19 David went up according to the word of Gad, just as the LORD had commanded. 20 Araunah looked down and saw the king and his servants crossing over toward him; and Araunah went out and bowed his face to the ground before the king. 21 Then Araunah said, “Why has my lord the king come to his servant?” And David said, “To buy the threshing floor from you, in order to build an altar to the LORD, ^athat the plague may be held back from the people.” 22 Araunah said to David, “Let my lord the king take and offer up what is good in his sight. Look, ^athe oxen for the burnt offering, the threshing sledges and the yokes of the oxen for the wood. 23 Everything, O king, Araunah gives to the king.” And Araunah said to the king, “May the LORD your God ^aaccept you.” 24 However, the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price, for ^aI will not offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God ¹which cost me nothing.” So ^bDavid bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. 25 David built there an altar to the LORD and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. ^aThus the LORD was moved by prayer for the land, and the plague was held back from Israel.

^aNow ^bthe anger of the LORD burned against Israel again, and He incited David against them to say, “^cGo, count Israel and Judah.” 2 So the king said to Joab the commander of the army, who was with him, “Roam about now through all the tribes of Israel, ^afrom Dan to Beersheba, and conduct a census of the people, so that I may know the number of the people.” 3 But Joab said to the king, “^aMay the LORD your God add to the people a hundred times as many as they are, while the eyes of my lord the king can still see; but why does my lord the king delight in this thing?” 4 Nevertheless, the king’s order prevailed against Joab and against the commanders of the army. So Joab and the commanders of the army left the presence of the king to conduct a census of the people of Israel. 5 They crossed the Jordan and camped in ^aAroer, on the right side of the city that is in the middle of the Valley of Gad and toward ^bJazer. 6 Then they came to Gilead and to ¹the land of Tahtim-hodshi, and they came to Dan-jaan and around to ^aSidon, 7 then they came to the ^afortress of Tyre and to all the cities of the ^bHivites and of the Canaanites, and they went out to the south of Judah, to ^cBeersheba. 8 So when they had roamed about through the whole land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days. 9 And Joab gave ^athe number of the census of the people to the king: in Israel there were ^beight hundred thousand valiant men who drew the sword, and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.

But now, LORD, please ²overlook the guilt of Your servant, for ^cI have acted very foolishly.” 11 When David got up in the morning, the word of the LORD came to ^aGad the prophet, David’s ^bseer, saying, 12 “Go and speak to David, ‘This is what the LORD says: “I am imposing upon you three choices; choose for yourself one of them, and I will do it to you.”’” 13 So Gad came to David and told him, and said to him, “Shall ^aseven years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee for three months before your enemies while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days of plague in your land? Now consider and see what answer I shall return to Him who sent me.” 14 Then David said to Gad, “I am in great distress. Let us now fall into the hand of the LORD, ^afor His mercies are great; but do not let me fall into human hands.”

15 So ^athe LORD ¹sent a plague upon Israel from the morning until the appointed time, and seventy thousand men of the people ^bfrom Dan to Beersheba died. 16 ^aWhen the angel extended his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, ^bthe LORD relented of the disaster and said to the angel who destroyed the people, “It is enough! Now drop your hand!” And the angel of the LORD was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. 17 Then David spoke to the LORD when he saw the angel who was striking down the people, and said, “Behold, ^ait is I who have sinned, and it is I who have done wrong; but ^bthese sheep, what have they done? Please let Your hand be against me and against my father’s house!”

18 So Gad came to David that day and said to him, “^aGo up, erect an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of ¹Araunah the Jebusite.” 19 Then David went up in accordance with the word of Gad, just as the LORD had commanded. 20 And Araunah looked down and saw the king and his servants crossing over toward him; so Araunah went out and bowed his face to the ground before the king. 21 Then Araunah said, “Why has my lord the king come to his servant?” And David said, “To buy the threshing floor from you, in order to build an altar to the LORD, ^aso that the plague may be ¹withdrawn from the people.” 22 Araunah then said to David, “Let my lord the king take and offer up what is good in his sight. Look, here are ^athe oxen for the burnt offering, the threshing sledges and the yokes of the oxen for the wood. 23 Everything, O king, Araunah gives to the king.” And Araunah said to the king, “May the LORD your God be ^afavorable to you.” 24 However, the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will certainly buy it from you for a price; for ^aI will not offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God ¹that cost me nothing.” So ^bDavid bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. 25 Then David built there an altar to the LORD, and he offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. And ^athe LORD responded to prayer for the land, and the plague was ¹withdrawn from Israel.

So they went from the king’s presence to take a census of the people of Israel. 5 They crossed over the Jordan and camped in ^aAroer, on the south side of the city which is in the middle of the river valley of the Arnon toward Gad, and on toward ^bJazer. 6 Then they came to Gilead and to the land of Tahtim-hodshi, and they came to Dan-jaan and around to ^aSidon, 7 and they came to the ^astronghold of Tyre and to all the cities of the ^bHivites and Canaanites, and they went out to the south of Judah, to ^cBeersheba. 8 So when they had gone about through all the land taking the census, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days. 9 And Joab gave ^athe sum of the census of the people to the king. In Israel there were ^b800,000 valiant men who drew the sword, and the men of Judah were 500,000.

10 But ^aDavid’s heart (conscience) troubled him after he had counted the people. David said to the LORD, “^bI have sinned greatly in what I have done. But now, O LORD, please take away the sin of Your servant, for ^cI have acted very foolishly.” 11 When David got up in the morning, the word of the LORD came to ^athe prophet Gad, David’s ^bseer, saying, 12 “Go and say to David, ‘Thus says the LORD, “I am giving you three choices; select one of them for yourself, and I will do it to you.”’” 13 So Gad came to David and told him, and said to him, “Shall ^aseven years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee three months before your enemies as they pursue you? Or shall there be three days of pestilence (plague) in your land? Now consider this and decide what answer I shall return to Him who sent me.” 14 Then David said to Gad, “I am in great distress. Let us fall into the hands of the LORD, ^afor His mercies are great, but do not let me fall into the hands of man.”

15 So ^athe LORD sent a pestilence (plague) lasting three days upon Israel from the morning until the appointed time, and seventy thousand men of the people ^bfrom Dan to Beersheba died. 16 ^aWhen the avenging angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, ^bthe LORD relented from the disaster and said to the angel who destroyed the people, “It is enough! Now relax your hand.” And the angel of the LORD was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. 17 When David saw the angel who was striking down the people, he spoke to the LORD and said, “Behold, ^aI alone am the one who has sinned and done wrong; but ^bthese sheep (people of Israel) , what have they done to deserve this? Please let Your hand be only against me and my father’s house (family) .”

18 Then Gad the prophet came to David that day and said to him, “^aGo up, set up an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite where you saw the angel.” 19 So David went up according to Gad’s word, as the LORD commanded. 20 Araunah looked down and saw the king and his servants crossing over toward him; and he went out and bowed before the king with his face toward the ground. 21 Araunah said, “Why has my lord the king come to his servant?” And David said, “To buy the threshing floor from you, to build an altar to the LORD, ^aso that the plague may be held back from the people.” 22 Araunah said to David, “Let my lord the king take and offer up whatever seems good to him. Look, here are ^aoxen for the burnt offering, and threshing sledges and the yokes of the oxen for the wood. 23 All of this, O king, Araunah gives to the king.” And Araunah said to the king, “May the LORD your God ^abe favorable to you.” 24 But the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will certainly buy it from you for a price. ^aI will not offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God which cost me nothing.” So ^bDavid purchased the ¹threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. 25 David built an altar to the LORD there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. ^aSo the LORD was moved to compassion by David’s prayer for the land, and the plague was held back from Israel.
