Entonces Elías se fue.

5 Cuando volvieron los mensajeros al rey¹, él les dijo: ¿Por qué habéis vuelto²? 6 Y ellos respondieron: Un hombre subió a nuestro encuentro y nos dijo: «Id, volved al rey que os envió, y decidle: “Así dice el SEÑOR: ‘¿Acaso porque no hay Dios en Israel envías a consultar a Baal-zebub, dios de Ecrón^a? Por tanto, no bajarás del lecho al que has subido, sino que ciertamente morirás’”». 7 Y él les dijo: ¿Qué aspecto tenía el hombre que subió a vuestro encuentro y os habló estas palabras? 8 Ellos le respondieron: Era un hombre cubierto de pelo, con un cinturón de cuero ceñido a sus lomos^a. Y él dijo: Es Elías tisbita.

9 Entonces el rey envió a él un capitán de cincuenta con sus cincuenta hombres. Yeste subió a él^a, y he aquí, Elías estaba sentado en la cumbre del monte, y le dijo: Hombre de Dios, el rey dice: «Desciende». 10 Respondió Elías y dijo al capitán de cincuenta: Si yo soy hombre de Dios, que descienda fuego del cielo y te consuma a ti y a tus cincuenta^a. Entonces descendió fuego del cielo, y lo consumió a él y a sus cincuenta^b. 11 De nuevo envió a él otro capitán de cincuenta con sus cincuenta que le habló y le dijo: Hombre de Dios, así dice el rey: «Desciende inmediatamente». 12 Y respondió Elías y les dijo: Si yo soy hombre de Dios, que descienda fuego del cielo y te consuma a ti y a tus cincuenta. Entonces el fuego de Dios descendió del cielo y lo consumió a él y a sus cincuenta. 13 De nuevo el rey le envió al tercer capitán de cincuenta con sus cincuenta. Y cuando el tercer capitán de cincuenta subió, vino y se postró de rodillas delante de Elías y le rogó, diciéndole^a: Hombre de Dios, te ruego que mi vida¹ y la vida² de estos cincuenta siervos tuyos sean preciosas ante tus ojos. 14 He aquí que ha descendido fuego del cielo y ha consumido a los dos primeros capitanes de cincuenta con sus cincuenta; mas ahora, sea mi vida¹ preciosa ante tus ojos. 15 Entonces el ángel del SEÑOR dijo a Elías: Desciende con él y no le tengas miedo^a. Se levantó Elías y descendió con él al rey^b, 16 y le dijo: Así dice el SEÑOR: «Por cuanto has enviado mensajeros a consultar a Baal-zebub, dios de Ecrón, ¿acaso porque no hay Dios en Israel para consultar su palabra^a?, no bajarás por tanto del lecho al que has subido, sino que ciertamente morirás».

17 Ocozías murió conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR que Elías había hablado. Y Joram reinó en su lugar en el año segundo de Joram, hijo de Josafat, rey de Judá^a, porque Ocozías no tenía ningún hijo. 18 Los demás hechos de Ocozías, lo que hizo, ¿no están escritos en el libro de las Crónicas de los reyes de Israel?

Now ^aMoab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab. 2 And Ahaziah fell through the lattice in his upper chamber which was in Samaria, and became ill. So he sent messengers and said to them, “Go, ^ainquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, ^bwhether I will recover from this sickness.” 3 But the angel of the LORD said to ^aElijah the Tishbite, “Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and say to them, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of ^bBaal-zebub, the god of Ekron?’ 4 Now therefore thus says the LORD, ‘^1aYou shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but you shall surely die.’” Then Elijah departed.

5 When the messengers returned to him he said to them, “¹Why have you returned?” 6 They said to him, “A man came up to meet us and said to us, ‘Go, return to the king who sent you and say to him, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending ^ato inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore ¹you shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but shall surely die.’”’” 7 He said to them, “What kind of man was he who came up to meet you and spoke these words to you?” 8 They ¹answered him, “^aHe was a hairy man with a leather girdle ²bound about his loins.” And he said, “It is Elijah the Tishbite.”

9 Then the king ^asent to him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him, and behold, he was sitting on the top of the hill. And he said to him, “O man of God, the king says, ‘Come down.’” 10 Elijah replied to the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of God, ^alet fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty.” ^bThen fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.

11 So he again sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he said to him, “O man of God, thus says the king, ‘Come down quickly.’” 12 Elijah replied to them, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty.” Then the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.

13 So he ^aagain sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. When the third captain of fifty went up, he came and bowed down on his knees before Elijah, and begged him and said to him, “O man of God, please let my life and the lives of these fifty servants of yours be precious in your sight. 14 Behold fire came down from heaven and consumed the first two captains of fifty with their fifties; but now let my ¹life be precious in your sight.” 15 ^aThe angel of the LORD said to Elijah, “Go down with him; ^bdo not be afraid of him.” So he arose and went down with him to the king. 16 Then he said to him, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Because you have sent messengers ^ato inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron—is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word?—therefore ¹you shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but shall surely die.’”

17 So Ahaziah died according to the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken. And because he had no son, Jehoram became king in his place ^ain the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah. 18 Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

Therefore ¹you will not get down from the bed upon which you have lain, but you shall certainly die.’”’” 7 Then he said to them, “What ¹did the man look like, who came up to meet you and spoke these words to you?” 8 And they said to him, “^aHe was a hairy man with a leather ¹belt worn around his waist.” And he said, “It is Elijah the Tishbite.”

9 Then the king ^asent to him a captain of fifty with his fifty men. And he went up to him, and behold, he was sitting on the top of the hill. And he said to him, “You man of God, the king says, ‘Come down.’” 10 But Elijah replied to the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of God, ^amay fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty.” ^bThen fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty men.

11 So the king again sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty men. And he said to him, “You man of God, this is what the king says: ‘Come down quickly!’” 12 But Elijah replied to them, “If I am a man of God, may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty.” Then the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty men.

So he sent messengers, saying to them, “Go, ^ainquire of Baal-zebub, the god of ¹Ekron, ^bif I will recover from this sickness.” 3 But the angel of the LORD said to ^aElijah the ¹Tishbite, “²Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say to them, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of ^bBaal-zebub, the god of Ekron?’ 4 Therefore this is what the LORD says: ‘^aYou Ahaziah will not leave the bed on which you lie, but you will certainly die.’” So Elijah departed.

Therefore you will not leave the bed on which you lie, but you will certainly die.’”’” 7 The king asked them, “What was the appearance of the man who came up to meet you and said these things to you?” 8 They answered him, “^aHe was a ¹hairy man with a wide leather ²band bound around his loins.” And Ahaziah said, “It is Elijah the Tishbite.”

9 Then the king ^asent to Elijah a captain of fifty with his fifty fighting men to seize the prophet. And he went up to him, and behold, he was sitting on the top of a hill. And the captain said to him, “Man of God, the king says, ‘Come down.’” 10 Elijah replied to the captain of fifty, “So if I am a man of God, then ^alet fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty fighting men.” ^bThen fire fell from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.

11 So King Ahaziah again sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty fighting men. And he said to him, “Man of God, thus says the king, ‘Come down quickly.’” 12 Elijah answered them, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty fighting men.” And the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.

13 ^aSo Ahaziah again sent a captain of a third fifty with his fifty fighting men. And the third captain of fifty went up and came bowed down on his knees before Elijah, and begged him for compassion and said to him, “O man of God, please let my life and the lives of your servants, these fifty, be precious in your sight. 14 Behold, fire came down from heaven and consumed the first two captains of fifty with their fifties; but now let my life be precious in your sight.” 15 ^aThe angel of the LORD said to Elijah, “Go down with him; ^bdo not be afraid of him.” So he stood and went down with him to the king. 16 Then Elijah said to Ahaziah, “Thus says the LORD: ‘Since you have sent messengers ^ato inquire of Baal-zebub, god of Ekron—is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word?—therefore you will not leave the bed on which you lie, but will certainly die.’”

17 So Ahaziah the son of King Ahab died in accordance with the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken. And because he had no son, Jehoram his younger brother became king of Israel, the northern kingdom in his place ^ain the ¹second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah the southern kingdom. 18 Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
